Podcast not deleting

Hi,
my podcasts is not syncing correctly...
I set it to "keep all unplayed episodes" on the itunes setting
and I set "sync all unplayed episodes" on the ipod
Now I think with itunes 6... it should delete all the podcast that has been played and keep all the unplayed ones and sync it to the ipod...
But now with itunes 7... it always keep all the podcast even though it has been played (no blue dots)
Secondly, I just notice... I went into podcast library there is no podcast, because I delete all that has been played...
But then I made a smart playlist with "my rating is 0 stars" rule... guess what... i can see about 60 something podcasts that I deleted a long time ago... And it still can be played... now... I can't find these in music, video, or podcast library... how am I suppose to delete these files? The Only thing I can do is to uncheck them and delete them directly from the folder/hardrive... As it turns out it is still in my ipod...
so my questions are
1 how to sync my podcast and automatically delete all played podcast?
2 how do I delete these podcast that I can't find in the library? the only way for me to find these "hidden" podcasts is by using smart playlist... but i can't delete from smart playlist...
Now in the smart playlist, it still show these "hidden" podcast, it show the ! sign, but i can't delete them...
thanks

  • Old podcasts not deleting in iTunes 11.1.5

I have iTunes 11.1.5 on my Mac and iTunes 11.1.5.5 for Windows but for some reason they are not deleting and keeping the latest podcasts.  I have the Automatically Download option set to most recent episode & episodes to keep most recent episode and I have the Auto Delete option turned on but I have podcasts going back to middle of February which is really what I don't want but I would like to see them updated for just the current week.  I've tried adjusting between turning off the Do Not Auto Delete and turning it on again but not seems to work.

    I'd check 2 things...
    1) In iTunes prefs, Devices, make sure devices are allowed to sync.
    2) Check that the USB to iPhone cable is actually working: is the iPhone's charge icon showing when connected?
Since Image Caption works, than that indicates the cable is OK.
My money is on the settings in iTunes is fouling things up.

  • Listened to podcasts not deleted during sync

    Hi All,
All of a sudden when I sync my iPod Touch to Tunes it no longer will properly sync listened to podcasts. They used to get synced to iTunes and marked as read. Now, they stay marked as unlistened in iTunes (blue dot) and get remarked on the iPod as unlistened to (blue dot) even though I have listened to the podcasts completely through to the end.
It almost appears as though the sync from the direction of iPod to iTunes has stopped functioning and I am only getting syncing in the direction of iTunes to iPod.
I have not changed any settings in iTunes. I have it set to sync unplayed episodes of selected podcasts which has always worked correctly for me in the past. My listened to podcasts used to be deleted from the iPod and only the unlistened/new podcasts would be synced to my iPod.
How do I correct this problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    Sue

I've seen and reported something like this as well. In my case, what I think I've figured out is that the "update podcast" function isn't happening UNLESS there is a new podcast episode downloaded for that subscription. I'm not seeing the heard/watched podcast getting remarked as unheard/unwatched on my iPod. If I go into the podcast list and ctrl-click and manually say "update podcast" it will delete the heard/watched episodes.
I never played much in the settings, but always have download all available and keep unheard podcasts selected. When this problem started I noticed a setting on each podcast regarding "auto delete" that I'd never noticed before. They seem to have been set randomly to "auto delete" or "don't auto delete", but again, I don't remember seeing or setting this before so it could have been something I did. I selected all the podcasts and set them to "auto delete".

  • Podcasts not Deleting

Does anyone know the rules for how an iPod Classic determines that a Podcast has been listened to and should be deleted from the iPod on synch with iTunes? I have a number of Podcasts that are marked as listened, but are still on my iPod. (I only keep new podcasts on my iPod.)
    Thanks!

Could you please explain how to delete INDIVIDUAL podcast EPISODES? so that I do not run out of disk space on my iPod mini...
Thanks to all who looked but I've got it sorted. Not
Steve Jobs fault but my own. Just had to set up
itunes properly. Guess I'm still gunshy after the

  • Played Podcasts not deleted...

I'm trying to understand what's going on here: I subscribe to several video and audio podcasts, including TED talks. I have the settings set for the default... when a new one is available, download the latest. Keep only the unplayed podcasts. All seems fine. I watch a podcast on my iPad or listen on my iPhone and with the next sync, it disappears from the device and shows as played in iTunes. I always assumed that unchecking the little box in the iTunes podcasts window would mean they would be eliminated from the computer. Not so. Looking in the iTunes Music/Podcasts folder on the Mac, I've just realized the podcast stays in iTunes. And in the case of TED talks, a LOT of them are held in iTunes. So to eliminate them (and get the hard drive space back) do I have to delete them manually? And, by the way, then what does that little checkbox do really?
Thanks for any explanations, suggestions, or help!

this worked for me until 10.1. Now played podcasts are no longer deleted from itunes.
In a prior version there was a bug where you can to select only the individual podcast episodes and not the podcast name, then you could also select "allow auto delete". That doesn't seem to fix it for 10.1

  • Podcasts not sycing

Hi, I just upgraded to Itunes 10, and now my podcasts aren't syncing with my ipod anymore. Itunes is set to sync all unplayed episodes, and I have like 160 unplayed ones in my podcast folder, but they will not transfer to my ipod no matter what I do.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's an 80 gig video ipod, if that makes any difference, and it worked flawlessly right up until I "upgraded" to itunes 10...

Go to Settings>General>Usage>Music. You can swipe right to left and delete the corrupted podcasts there.
Worked fine to me. But somethings on internet waste time, you have to be patient to find what you need. About five days to get the right solution.

  • I have seven(7) podcasts on my iPhone 4 that iTunes will not delete. iTunes copies them from the phone to the library and will not  delete them from the phone when deleted from the library.

I have seven(7) podcasts on my iPhone 4 that iTunes will not delete. iTunes copies them from the phone to the library and will not delete them from the phone when deleted from the library. I have replayed the podcasts over and over and they still won't delete. Podcasts are WSJ Tech briefings.

This happens to several of my podcasts whenever an updated iOS comes out. You can delete the episode directly from the phone by swiping it from left to right. That seems to fix the issue (they drop off the phone and dont reappear on iTunes). It's as if iTunes stops tracking the play count for some shows.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I get iTunes to not delete partially listened to podcasts?

I have Google searched this, asked all my Mac friends (for years) and I just don't know what I'm missing or why this happens....
I listen to a lot of podcasts, pretty much 8 hours a day and lots in the evenings after I get the kids to bed. So here's what my problem is. Lets say I have an episode that's an hour long. I get through half of it in the evening and when I plug my iPod Touch (gen 1, old school I know) before bed to sync up all new episodes overnight, the episode I have only partially listened to gets deleted.
From my understanding of things, a podcast that has been played, even if only for a few minutes of an hour long episode, is marked as "Played"....though the little blue icon in iTunes shows a half filled blue circle. Is there no distinguishing between a not listened to episode, a partially listened to episode (that I want to keep on the iPod until I finish it!), and a completely listened to episode? It's either been played or not, despite how much of the episode has been played?
Ideally I want iTunes to delete from my iPod anything I've listed to all the way to the end. That works great with the current settings I have. I don't want it to delete episodes I've partially listened to and I'd sure like it if it would not only NOT delete it, but leave a marker where I left off so I can sync new episodes over night but pick up at the 28 minute mark where I left off on the episode I was listening to the night before.
Now, when this occurs, I have to go into that podcast's list, click the partially listened to episode as not having been listened to, resync the ipod and download it to the ipod again...then try to remember where the heck I left off.
Anyone have any suggestions, fixes, links to forum posts on what to do to get this very simple idea to work?
Thank you in advance for reading this. I can't believe it's taken me 4+ years to finally post on my frustration...

After a couple of days, I'm noticing that the repeat(ing) offenders have more than 10 episodes, and seem to keep repeating them every time I sync.
They only show once in my phone and in the iTunes Podcasts, but through iTunes and looking at what's in my phone is when I see the repeats.
Even after I've marked a podcast as played, and deleted it from within my phone, as well as telling iTunes to delete the played episodes, it still shows multiples of the played episodes.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it either. They aren't the newest ones either.

Tom at the Genius Bar told me that Option Delete would work. It does not.
I had to upgrade to iTunes 11.1.(I26) because it is required with OS7 on my iPod Touch (5th Gen). I have tried shutting down iTunes, then shutting down the entire system. This is the first in many visits that the Genius Bar gave me a solution that did not work.
This is a big awkward computer locked to my desk. I would rather not unlock it and then carry it through a shopping center to the Genius Bar if i can avoid oit.
When I installed iTunes 11.1, I discovered that Ihad to resubscribe to virtually all of the podcasts that I had previously been subscribed to. That was a surprise.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

  • Why are my podcasts not syncing with Apple TV when all devices connect to the same Apple iD?

Does anybody have an idea as to why my recently updated Apple TV does not sync my podcasts from my Apple iD. It's supposed to, it's not doing it, and it's very annoying.
This is only half the aggravation; the other half is that all my podcasts have been deleted automatically twice(no apparent reason other than perhaps a bug in iOS 7.0.2 / 11A501).
This one I have managed to comeup with sort of a temporary fix while Apple fixes this: I made a copy/backup of the "Podcasts" folder inside the "iTunes Media" which in turn is in the "iTunes" folder Within the "Music" folder in my Mac. When my Podcasts are deleted, I just drag the backup "Podcasts" folder I created into the My Pocasts in iTunes.
    Apple please fix it.

  • ITunes not delete songs from your hard drive while they're playing?

So, if I delete a song, it says "would you like to keep this file or delete it?" And I always want to delete it; I can't even imagine why I would want to keep files I'm deleting.
However, if you are playing a song at the time, or if you're listening to a podcast and it has finished playing, if you try to delete them, it will not delete the file even if you tell it to.
Is there a setting around this or is iTunes just as stupid as I think?
i.e. Is the only solution after you finish listening to a podcast to play some other random file and then delete it?
This became infinitely more annoying after iTunes decided that videos should automatically be played in the window instead of a new window, since now I have to make sure I'm picking another random file that ISN'T a video so I can actually see the original file and delete it.

I often want to remove files from my iTunes library, but keep them on my harddrive. That's why iTunes asks you if you want to delete it. Holding control down when you hit delete will at least get rid of the first dialogue box.
If you are trying to delete a song that is playing, it won't delete it because it is in use.
I assume the same is happening on your machine with podcasts. Your system thinks the files is still in use, so can not delete it.

  • Republished entire site–7 out 14 podcast not loading

After updating iWeb, I republished my site that I had been working on. www.rcogop.com the podcasts are under RCOGOP Sermons. All of these podcasts were created in Garage Band using the same file by dragging the main track out and replacing it each time, export to iTunes, Convert to mp3 to cut down file size, rename, placed into iWeb via the media browser, published to my server account via FTP .
All of these podcasts are newly published at the same time. The three at the bottom of the list work and the four at the top of the list work. The four in–between do not work. The page for the podcast opens as usual. Where the controler bar should be, is a transparent Quicktime icon.
The actual media files are on the server and will play in Safari. If I log into my FTP account via Safari and click directly on the file it opens in a new window and plays.
This is what's puzzling me. If, I open the site from a folder on my computer everything works. It is only when I publish it to the Server that it doesn't work. Note again only some podcasts do not work.
Apple Care tech''s told me to delete everything on my server and republish. I did all 86mb. Takes a while with a 256kb upload speed.
Why would some of these podcasts not link correctly?
Has anyone else had this trouble?
Any, help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
    Imac 17" –1.8 G5, GeForce FX 5200   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB Ram

I created a new podcast series and started from scratch using the same format the same audio files the same everything. I basically copied and pasted all of my text and images over from the old series.
    (The only changes)
    1. Instead of using the media browser, I drug the audio straight out of the finder.
    2. I renamed the audio files with shorter names, no spaces and no hyphens, commas, apostrophes etc...
    3. I noticed some of the dates did not match from the entry to the entry list. I corrected them. NOTE (This did not affect the podcast working. Some of the ones with unmatched dates DID work. All of the ones that DID NOT work had dates that matched in both the entry and the entry list?)
After I finished the new series, I deleted the old one, saved (+S), published to a new folder and uploaded the site after deleting everything on the server again.
    (My Suggestion)
    1. DO NOT edit a podcast series created before the 1.1 update after updating iWeb to 1.1.
    Start a new series
    (Comment)
I like iWeb for its simplicity.
I don't like not being able to view the HTML for trouble shooting.
But, I suppose that goes beyond simple.

  • Help to restore iTunes files from trash, not deleted.

I need to move 35,000 podcasts, 654 GB, from my trash back to my iTunes library on an external hard drive (EHD). They are NOT deleted from my trash.
I am running on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 until I can clear enough EHD space to backup/upgrade to Mtn Lion.
11.5 iTunes is my current version on my 640 GB early 2009 24” mac.
    I have tried:
    Undo - command + Z
Selecting all in trash and dragging it to the:
iTunes Music folder on my EHD
Automatically Add to iTunes folder on my EHD
The upper left corner on the iTunes window
The iTunes icon in the dock
There is no restore option when I Right Click on anything in trash, single or more than one file.
In iTunes: File, Add to Library, selecting the recycle bin or the file under it. Nothing happens. I do have checked on iTunes Preferences, Advanced, Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.
Dragging 40 files from trash to the Automatically Add to iTunes folder on my EHD.
This returned the files but without essential data like the release date/description, which totally messes up my library.
They are no longer listed in date order, and I cannot see if I have the most recent without scrolling down down through sometimes over 200 pods in that album, and even then there is no date order, which orders all podcasts. All the tags/descriptions/comments I spent thousands of hours on are gone.
I just recieved in the mail yesterday my Data Rescue 3 software for an earlier problem,
I do not know if it will help retrieve all the essential data.
I cannot move the files to my desktop because the size, 654 GB, is bigger than my 640 GB mac. Plus, I know from experience this does not preserve the essential data like release date.
My iTunes EHD has 485 GB free out of 1.71 TB.
I can order another 3 TB EHD to arrive in 2 weeks, which I will eventually need, but my husband aint going to be happy. As an old photographer trying to join the digital age, I already have 20 TB storage, mostly for photos, which has put us in debt.
Please, does anyone know how to restore podcasts from trash while retaining metadata?

    Thanks for your sympathy, dclkdm.
    For anybody else out there,
I have had some luck retaining info such as release date, plays, and rating by
dragging podcasts to a Finder folder in iTunes,
    in iTunes Media,
    Automatically Add to iTunes.
So far, I have retrieved all my lost podcasts with Data Rescue 3,
but have not tried to consolidate everything into one library yet.

  • Podcast not showing all the episodes in my feed

When i created my podcast i think i selected to only keep the latest 10 episodes by mistake. How could i correct this without deleting my current podcast and resubmitting a new feed to itunes?
    http://construct.wickedbad.net/archives/category/mixes/jaime-le-dubstep/feed
right now its showing episodes 44 and up. i'd like it to start at 1 and keep them all.
    Thanks for the help.
    Marc

iTunes is indeed using the second feed you list but this immediately redirects to the first feed when you enter the URL in a browser. Presumably you have a redirect in place on the server? There are 115 episodes in the Store, and though I didn't count the ones in the feed they seem to match. So it all seems to be working and you could probably just leave it alone - since you have added episodes to the feed and iTunes has (presumably) picked then all up, the redirect seems to be working there OK. (Next time you add an episode to the feed, make sure it does indeed appear in the Store - after a couple of days - and when subscribing - this latter is immediate).
If you really want to change iTunes to the feed directly you are going to have to go through a bit of a process:
    1. Copy the feed at http://construct.wickedbad.net/feed/podcast to the other location at
    http://construct.wickedbad.net/archives/category/mixes/jaime-le-dubstep/feed
    2. Add the redirect tag to this copy feed as indicated here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#changing
    3. Remove the server redirect.
    4. Leave the copy feed in place until iTunes has swapped over (check this by subscribing from the Store page, clicking the line for your podcast (not an episode) and clicking the 'i' button at the right-hand end.
