Podcast Not Marked as Played

I download many podcasts and move them to my iPod. I usually play them straight from the computer and then disconnect it to listen to as I walk my dogs so I know which ones were played or not. Before iTunes 10 I was able to disconnect and just select the podcast I was listening to and pick up right where it left off. Now iTunes 10 will not remember where in the podcast I was or even if it was played, it will mark it as unplayed.

Add me to the, "Me, too," group here. I get this problem - it's pretty annoying as well when I start listening on my iPhone, sync it to iTunes (which remembers where it's played), but then resets the last played location to the beginning again on the phone.
I thought it was an iPhone "special feature" as I got iTunes 10 and the iPhone about the same time, and didn't recall getting the problem with my previous nano under iTunes 9. Not sure where the problem lies, but it's giving me a level of rage - it's illegal to operate a phone in the car here, so I wire the phone into an Alpine head unit which was atrocious controls for forwarding through giant 2.5 hour long "songs."
Be nice if we saw a return to the previous behaviour, where syncs worked fine

  • Unplayed podcasts not marked with dot at top level list

    Hello,
Since I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.2, I've been having all kinds of trouble with podcasts.  Here's the most recent headache.
Today, my "Podcasts" item in the side menu on the left says there are 6 unplayed episodes.  When I click on "Podcasts", there are only 4 podcasts marked with the blue dot indicating that they are unplayed.  Where are the two additional unplayed podcasts?  It turns out that there are two podcasts that have unplayed episodes, but they're not marked as unplayed in the list of podcasts.  If I click on the arrow to the left of the podcast name to expand the list, I can see the unplayed episodes there, marked with a blue dot.
So, for two (and only two) podcasts, unplayed episodes are marked with an unplayed blue dot next to the individual episodes, but the top-level listing for that podcast in my list of podcasts doesn't show the unplayed blue dot.  There are two issues with this.  1) These "hidden" unplayed episodes don't sync to my iPod (i.e. only 4 podcast episodes went to my iPod this morning, even though I have 6 unplayed episodes), and 2) I can't tell which podcasts have unplayed episodes without expanding all of the listings for my podcasts, which is obnoxious.
I previously solved this problem by unsubscribing from the offending podcasts and resubscribing.  However, the problem is back now.  I'd really prefer not to have to delete and resubscribe every week.
Are there any other better podcast handlers out there than iTunes?  I'm getting so tired of the slow decent into the abyss with this bloated, dysfunctional piece of software.  Every time a new release comes out, something breaks or some feature I use is taken away, replaced with some iOS-centric Apple-store-linked "BUY NOW" button.  Ugghh.  I just want to play my nerdy NPR podcasts in peace, Apple.
    Thanks!
    Adrian

Did you ever figure this out? I just realized I posted a similar question. 9 months later and no Apple staff have answered this question nor have they fixed this (if it is a bug)? Not particularly impressive.

  • Played podcasts not marked played ofter syncing

My played podcasts are being marked unplayed on my Iphone and not removed from Itunes when I resync. I have my Itunes set to remove all unplayed from Iphone, and Itunes to only keep unplayed podcasts. This worked prior to the most recent update. I have even restored my iphone. Using Itunes 9.0.1.8 and Iphone 3.1...Is there a bug causing the problem??

I too am having severe problems with long mp3s (think 3 1/2 to 4 hours) and the remember position feature on my iphone. Once it gets to an hour left, the remember position reverts to between 58 and 63 minutes left, depending on the file. It will not allow me to scrub ahead either. It reverts back to the exact same time.
It is very annoying (to the point of unusable) and I hope a fix happens soon.

  • Itunes does not mark podcasts which have been played on ipod as played

When I sync my ipod with itunes, podcasts which I have played on my ipod are not marked as played on itunes. However, if I have played a podcast on itunes it does mark the podcast as played on both itunes and my ipod. This used to work at one time, but for some reason has stopped. How do I get it working again so that itunes will mark a podcast which has been played on my ipod as played and not remark my already played podcast as unplayed after syncing?

I'm having very similar behavior. I wish Apple would get pay a lot more attention to the numerous podcasting sybching/ playing issues. In my case, there's a couple of podcasts in particular that even though I listen to the particular podcast, it never is recognized as having been listened to on my iPod. As a result, old podcasts just seem to keep "hanging around" and are never overwritten or deleted from my iPod (4 GB , nano, 1st generation) when I sync up. Apple... pay attention... please...! Anyone else have this particular behavior ?

  • Not marking played podcasts

Latest software upgrade fixed the issue of playing one podcast then stopping...big improvement. Now played podcasts remain marked as unplayed on the Nano but when I sync with iTunes, iTunes seems to know which podcasts were played and marks them correctly.

This was the way podcasts worked in all iPods since the beginning and how many used it. It made more sense to play individual episodes in the Podcasts section and adding them to playlists for sequential playback. Many used it this way for years to play individual episodes from the Podcast section when they didn't want all the episodes marked as played. This was the reason I no longer use my touch for podcast listening. Playlists and smart playlists are a better option for sequential playback due to their automation and customizability. Smart Playlists can easily gather up new episodes of different podcasts creating a virtual "radio station".
Now to play an individual podcast episode at bedtime I must make a separate playlist for one episode and do clean up afterwards. One step backwards if you ask me. Now you see lots of complaints here as to why the podcasts are not stopping. A better fix would have been to add an option for sequential playback in the iPod's Podcasts section.

  • "Mark as played" for podcasts doesnt work in itunes 11.1.3 and Mavericks

Ever since updating to Mavricks, iTunes is not keeping track of my podcasts correctly. If I right click a podcast from the "Unplayed" list and choose "Mark As Played," nothing happens. the podcast stays in that list and the blue dot stays next to the podcast art. How do I get iTunes to acknoledge/delete played podcasts?

Okay so I have now just about worked out how to get around some of these issues.
Unfortunately you cannot do everything from the same view!!
To delete a podcast you need to be in the list view where right-click menu option delete seems to work as before.
To force download an episode that has the cloud icon you need to be in the podcasts view when there is a right-click menu option to download this episode.
Why this option is not available in list view shows lack of quality control somewhere.
Once we have episodes downloaded without the cloud icon then the played/unplayed seems to work and the unplayed episodes get moved to ipod/iphone when synched.
What a palaver, it all used to be so simple!

  • ITunes marks part-played podcasts as played!!

I just got a 5th gen iPod and while the new feature (for me) of remembering where you left off in a podcast and being able to pick up where you left off it very useful, I've also noticed another, annoying change.
I have my iPod preferences set in iTunes to download 'unplayed only'. This worked fine until I got my new iPod. Now, when I sync the iPod with iTunes, all the podcasts I've part-listened to get marked as played and hence wiped off my iPod when I update.
Does anyone know how to fix this without me having to change my settings to 'download checked only' and me having to manually manage my podcast downloads?
    Thanks, Nick

I think I found the answer!
(lease let me know if it's not the right place to put it)
I had the same problem where I would download and sync a whole pile of podcasts in itunes, sync using itunes, get all my favourite podcasts ready for my commute, then leave the house only to find that they were unavailable.
After reading the above I tried something that should fix the problem. here's what I did:
    1. uninstall the app
    2. reinstall the app
    3. download and sync podcasts using itunes and phone cable
    4. open the fresh install of app
    5. selected "don't sync..." from the inital alert box.
    6. double checked podcast app settings to make sure that sync was off, it only kept new podcast, and there was no auto downloading or checking
    7. checked to see if podcasts were all there and new (they were)
    8. turned off wi-fi and checked again to make sure the stupid cloud wasn't there (it wasn't)
    9. crossed my fingers that when I leave the house next I could listen to my favourite shows
Hope this works for you guys!
    Good luck.

  • IPod sync does not mark Podcasts as "not new" in iTunes

    Hi
Last week I installed a new version of iTunes since I reinstalled Windows. Before the sync between my iPod (60GB 5. gen.) and iTunes worked well. But now the iPod is not capable anymore of marking podcasts as "not new" in iTunes although the podcasts were marked as "not new" before I connected the iPod to my computer. Instead iTunes overwrites the status of the podcasts on my iPod. So whether an episode is new or not on my iPod, if it's new in iTunes it will be new on the iPod after the sync.
    My current version is 7.1.0.59
Is anyone of you aware of the problem and knows any way to solve it?

  • Podcasts marked as played keep being downloaded again and again

On iphone 5, since ios8 there are a number of podcast episodes which, no matter how many times I mark them as played (and they subsequently get deleted) the next day they appear again in my feed, and are automatically downloaded.  very frustrating.

Unfortunately, I have not found syncing to help at all.
I listen to iTunes while running, and if I sync all Podcasts without a playlist, I have to stop, press the button, hear the voice go through x many podcasts, and click on the next one.  If I sync to a certain playlist, I am able to play all of them in a row, but they will not be marked as played, last played, skipped, or last skipped.  Why are these choices there if we cannot use them?
If I do not sync, they will occasionally randomly mark some played, even if unplayed, but then leave all of my played marked as unplayed.  Most of the time all are marked as unplayed even when played all the way through.  Since the "last played" and "last skipped" options are chosen for my list, one shouldn't have to play all the way through in order to see the dates of when they were last played or last skipped.
I have searched all over the net for a solution, but can find none.  The best solution I had was to get rid of this iTunes version and go back to an earlier one, but unfortunately, the new one was replaced as a package with other software installs, without my choosing to install it.  Can Apple please help?

  • The progress indicator in version 11.0.1.2 does not appear when a song or podcast starts. It may or may not appear during play.

The progress indicator in version 11.0.1.2 does not appear when a song or podcast starts. It may or may not appear during play. How do I make it appear so I can start a podcast in the middle of the program?

No errors in error console. No effect using *. I tried using the dns name of my localhost both in the Firefox URL and in the javascript and I get exactly the same. I have spent a huge amount of time looking into this issue.
One thing I noticed is that if I use the examples on the internet (http://arunranga.com/examples/access-control/preflightInvocation.html or http://saltybeagle.com/cors/) they work in the same browser. These examples however, are accessed through HTTP proxies.
I am wondering if the issue has to do with using the same hostname just with different ports.

  • How can I fix: iPad1 plays back audio podcasts (not music) at double speed?

How can I fix: iPad1 plays back audio podcasts (not music) at double speed?

    Hello @GiveHP2ndChance,
I understand that you are not able to get adequate sound from your notebook computer's BEATS Audio, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To correct the sound on your system, I recommend following this document on No Sound from Speakers (Windows 7) or for (Windows 8). This should help improve the quality of the audio on your notebook.
To assist you further, I will need to know:
The Product and Model Number of your notebook computer.
The version of Windows you have installed on your computer.
If your computer has completed all of its important Windows Updates.
If you have updated your HP drivers using the HP Support Assistant.
If this is an on-going, or recent issue.
If the same lack of quality is present when headphones are plugged in.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

  • Watched Episodes Are Not Marked Watched

I have a new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard and all updates are installed. My only problem now is that any TV shows or movies that I watch in Front Row are not marked watched in iTunes. The blue dot appears half full as if I've only watched part of each episode and there is no date indicated that it was last watched on this date.
If I select an episode and play it from within iTunes, it gets marked watched along with the date it was last watched.
Is there a fix for this? Thanks

I've got the same problem. I'll watch shows with Front Row, and come back into iTunes only to see them marked as 'partially watched'. When I play them in iTunes, it starts at random places. I thought it might have been related to where I pause a podcast (so I can fast forward in 10second hops instead of 30-60), but I've let podcasts play right through, and it still does it.
Is there anyway to fix this or do we just have to wait for an update an HOPE they actually fix it? Any place to submit this bug officially?
My setup has been working fine for the last 1-1.5 years, until I upgraded to 10.6 and iTunes 9.

  • Podcasts not synching properly

I have an iPod mini on which I play podcasts. I have followed the directions on the apple support site for making a smart playlist on which podcasts will stream one after another, and then be deleted from the list after being played. (In the smart playlist menu I check "Podcast" "is true" "+" "Playcount" "=0") Although the podcasts will be marked as played in the podcast listing (the blue dot next to the played podcast disappears), the played podcasts remain on my streaming smart playlist after synching. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? Thanks so much.

I think this is an iTunes question, not an iPod Mini question. I have used a playlist like this through several versions of iTunes, so there's hope
The second condition in your smart playlist shows in 8.0.1 as "Play Count" "is" 0, right? Did you verify that the "Live updating" box is checked?
If you're looking at the playlist as shown on the Mini, have you tried syncing again? (I've noticed that with iTunes 7.7 onward there's a bug in updating podcasts on my Mini: I have to sync twice to get deleted podcasts to actually go away. This seems to have come along with the new feature that podcasts in playlists now also appear in the Podcasts section of the Mini. More precisely, the podcasts go away, but iTunes shows that the space is still in use. Sync again fixes it.)

  • Front Row not marking media as watched in iTunes after viewing.

Since updating to iTunes 10 I have noted that when I watch video in Front Row that the video file is not marked as watched in iTunes even though the full clip is played in Front Row. The podcast is marked as partially watched (half a blue ball).

    Bump.
I have tried multiple solutions and non have solved this issue. I am rather disappointed that watching content on my AppleTV or via FrontRow does not mark the show as "watched" in iTunes. FrontRow will mark it part watched and AppleTV does not effect the watched status flag at all.
I do believe this is an iTunes 10 issue though as I only saw it after upgrading to iTunes 10.
Can anyone point me to a solution?
