Podcast page blank, but entries/archive okay?

Help! iWeb has lost its natural mind this morning. I'm using a podcast page as a blog page, dropping in photos and text, because I like the look/layout of that page better in the template I'm using. Normally, it works fine. Today, the main page with the description and links has DISAPPEARED. Nothing appears in iWeb. The subpages are fine; the entries are all there, and the archive seems okay, but the main page is toast. I've deleted the .plist and cache files and restarted, but no dice. I'd really rather not have to copy everything over to a new page, but since you can't fiddle with just one part of the file, I don't know what to do to force it to play nice. Any suggestions?

I've never seriously considered using the iWeb podcast because, apart from the problem you are describing, the files require that the end user has the QuickTime plugin and the vast majority of PC users don't.
After reading your post I decided to experiment.
Up until now, the obvious way to load the media file would have been in a flash player. This is not the answer now due to the increasing number of devices using iOS.
To simplify matters at this stage I used a file that's uploaded to Vimeo and employed an iFrame code in an HTML Snippet to display it on the iWeb page. This should play on most devices, browsers and operating systems but, I guess, won't autoplay on the iPad/iPhone.
Does this work?

Right now, I haven't even considered how this will effect the RSS URL generated by iWeb. The contents of the rss.xml file look fairly sensible but who knows? I'll leave that to someone who actually knows something about podcasting!

  • ITunes Store 11.1 Podcast Pages Blank

When I'm in the iTunes Store, everything displays perfectly EXCEPT all of the pages relating to Podcasts. The Podcast homepage looks blank and individual podcast pages are either blank or won't display any older podcasts and even search results are blank.
However, actual podcasts that I subscribe to download fine... I just can't see anything in the Store.
I read that it might be the cache and tried re-setting it but it didn't make a difference.
This is what I see (using a search for "Halloween" as an example.) Every other category will display fine but the Podcast category looks like this:

It's even worse. I thought that as a workaround maybe I could re-download the old episodes and then delete them. But when I do, the "deleted" episode just goes back to showing as available to download. So basically it seems like whatever episodes are listed as being available will be shown, whether or not you've already listened to them -- with no way to hide the ones you're not interested in or the ones you've already heard.
    Stupid, stupid, stupid.

  • Pages blank (but I know it isn't!)

I have pages 4.1 (923) and when I open a document I cannot see what is on it. I know it is there because of word counts etc. Did I set something by accident?

    You need to update Pages:

  • Most recent 5 entries on front .mac podcast page

I'm trying to use a .mac account to get podcasts on the iTunes store. I've got everything set up, but only the 5 most recent podcast entries show up on the front page of my .mac podcast page. Older entries get pushed into the archive page.
Then, on the iTunes store, only my 5 most recent entries show up.
Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a way I can get the podcasts that are in my archive to show up on the front page, and/or at the iTunes store?
    Thanks

if you want to have all of your entries to appear on the front page you need to go to the INSPECTOR, then to the RSS tab and from the scroller, choose how many entries you want on the fron page.

  • Photos stop working on Podcast Page

I created a website in iLife 09' I started a Podcast page using one of the templates. Everything works just fine except that on the Podcast Page (not the entries or the archives pages) pictures don't appear automatically next to the listings beyond the 8th Podcast. Listings 1-8 appear fine, with the picture next to the Podcast. When I add the ninth Podcast, the Podcast appears on the Podcast Page, but without the photo. Tried toggling photo's on and off, and a few other things to no avail. Even after upgrading my MBP to a new machine, the problem still exists.
I've had to resort to turning the photo option off, and manually adding small photo's myself. Not fun.
Anyone else experiencing this problem, or have any ideas on how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

  • IWeb '08 archive page blank

I just tried to change the theme of my website in iLife '08 and everything worked fine except now my blog archive page is completely blank. The entries page still has all the entries and still links to the archive page but the archive page is blank in iWeb. I have not uploaded it to the web yet since I changed the theme- I don't want to lose all the entries. Is there any way to re-create the archive page for the already complete entries? Thanks.

I have the same problem as you, but lost all 10 new pages on a new site I just created. I did upload the new site with no problems and the pages are still online, but empty on iWeb. All my previous sites are untouched.
As you have not uploaded, I assume the problem is with the software and maybe Leopard? I'm waiting for Apple to fix the problem. I have no answer for you, there are plenty of others with blank pages waiting for Apple...

  • Can I keep more than just 5 entries in the podcast page?

I noticed that any post in iWeb's podcast page that gets moved to the archive is no longer indexed by iTunes or other aggregators. I was wondering if there is a way to keep more than just 5 entries in the podcast page so that they continue to remain pasrt of the RSS feed and stay indexed on the aggregator.
    Thank you for your help!

In a similar problem, does subscribing to a podcast with only one or two current episodes listed, allow all the archived episodes to be accessed or visible in the iTunes Store as well?
I don't really see the purpose of the Archive if it isn't ultimately used for cataloguing available iTunes downloads, and I am thus forced to load all blog entries on the main page.
Or am I doing something horribly wrong?

  • Hiding entry pages from the viewer in a Podcast page

I have a podcast page displaying a series with 4 episodes. I want the viewer only to use the "subscribe" button. I do not want them to go anywhere else by clicking on the links on the page that take them to the entry pages. If they click on "more" it takes them to an entry page where they can download the podcast. Is there any way I can prevent them from doing this? For viewers new to podcasting this alternative offering is very confusing ?

Thanks for your reply, Ken. I did start a separate topic for this but it didn't seem to publish properly.

I've used Feedburner many times and never had such a problem. I am a bit confused, forgive me if I ask for questions already answerd. Have you tried updating the podcast in someone elses copy of iTunes? My guess is that the file is bad since it is working in other programs but not iTunes. I would try making a new .mp4 file and podcasting it and seeing if that works.
    Good luck!

Software? See if you can get it removed with some anti-malware tools. Spybot, AVG, Kapersky, et cetera...
If you know the name of the program, you could search the registry for any instance of that name and --be CAREFUL--delete them.
And I have to ask: Did you go back to Firefox after uninstalling this program and reset the "when I open a new tab..." setting? What about your home page?

  • Cover art shows on the podcast page but not in search

Ever have this happen? When you search for my podcast by keywords, the podcast appears in the list, but without the cover art. But on the podcast page itself, the cover art is just fine. http://foundit.libsyn.com/rss The podcast name is Found It! and the keywords for searching are geocaching, GPS, and hiking.

oops, cancel this. It's there now. Just needed to be patient.

  • Picture is on Podcast page but not in the episodes....

HELP! our picture is up on our podcast page in itunes, but it is not showing up in the indiviaul episodes....
I tried the right click get info but i have no tab for artwork. Instead were the artwork should be the bos says artwork available when purchased. Our fellow podcaster made the artwork!!! Please help Our podcast is Bitten: A Twilight Podcast

    From Apple's tech specs:
The itunes:image tag is not supported at the item level. It is possible to include art within individual episodes, but the art is included within the media file’s metadata, not in the RSS feed. To add artwork to an episode using iTunes, highlight the episode and select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. Click the Artwork tab. Then click "Add," navigate to and select an image file, and click "Choose."
What this means is that the image that shows on an iPod is like album cover art for song files, so you add the artwork to your podcast file before uploading it to your server.

Thanks. In version 2.0 the address bar button does work. Problem is that visitors wont know that. Also, I have the same issue the message:
"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below"
in IE on a PC. Can the XML file be altered post processing to get this to work? If not, I will have to pull the button out altogether, which is actually not such a bad idea since it's going to be awhile before we have enough students to add content to this page as frequently as a podcast warrants.
I was sooooo waiting for iLife 07 last week hoping that some of the quirks would be fixed and perhaps better features added. Last I read on ThinkSecret.com was that it may not be out till March due to some delays because of a major overhall. Maybe it will be worth the wait.

  • Can't get a podcast page to show up in iTunes online

I am trying to get student created GarageBand compositions up to iTunes online so that when a link to their song is clicked on an iWeb page a viewer can listen to or download the compostition.
I drug a playlist from iTunes to an iWeb podcast page and "submitted/published the new podcast page to iTunes and .mac"
It took a couple of attempts, but the page appears to have uploaded. When the links are clicked on the page
    http://web.mac.com/hipmac/iWeb/HIP%20Mac/Podcast/F9031D19-5E1E-467E-9A09-CE28F98 54D22.html
iTunes opens but no results for the student composer are found.
From what I've read in discussions and help, the page can take a few days to become available, but it has been over a week.
In addition to that opportunity, the two other podcast pages have made it to iTunes but don't contain all of the content.

I've tried re-uploading the podcast a couple of times and have sync'd iDisk...
    What should I try now?

    MQuaries...
you need to upload their podcast composition to .Mac or another server. If you're loading to .Mac use iWeb.
iTunes just points to the podcasts out on the web. It doesn't load them. You can't have them on your local computer unless it's RSS server enabled and is on the net 24/7.
Create a podcast page in iWeb. The main podcast page holds your artwork and a description of your podcasts. This artwork and info will be uploaded to iTunes. On this main podcast page, you'll see an ENTRY button. Click on that and you'll get a new page that is automatically underneath your main page in the SITE ORGANIZER. Put the first episode of your podcast there, with a description, date, and title.
SUBMIT TO ITUNES next under the FILE menu. You'll get an email from iTunes saying that they are reviewing your feed, then a couple of days later you'll get an approval email with your podcast url feed id. (keep this handy for later)
Then, people will be able to go to iTunes and download students compositions.
    hope this helps.
    Jim
