Podcast play problems: 3G MUCH different than 2G

I'm having many problems with my 3G nano:
1. Create a playlist (not a smart playlist) and fill it with podcasts. Sync that playlist to the nano by choosing it in the Music tab on iTunes. The nano will show that some of its space is taken up, but you won't be able to play the podcasts on the nano. (This could easily be done on the 2G.)
Why is this important? Say you want to create a list of podcast episodes from different podcast feeds and you want to play it in a particular order. I do this frequently when planning to go to the gym or drive and when I don't want to have to choose each episode separately.
It is also important because automatically loading just certain podcasts on an iPod (three episodes of one podcast feed, all of your library of eighty podcasts from another feed) requires this level of loading a playlist since iTunes doesn't let you choose the number of episodes to load independently for each feed. (I know you can tell iTunes to only load checked episodes, but what if you have multiple iPods and want to load different versions on each iPod?)
2. Load a bunch of podcasts on your nano. Using the on-the-go playlist feature, hold the center button down on a random set of episodes to build an on-the-go playlist. Where is the playlist? The next time you sync the nano, it will be visible in iTunes, but you won't be able to find it anywhere on the nano.
3. Play just one podcast episode at a time. Any time you go to play a podcast episode, the nano will always play the next episode as well. (I partially solved this by realizing that placing the nano into shuffle mode will prevent this. That's nice. However, many times I want to listen to podcasts in chronological order rather than reverse-chronological order, and the nano won't do that without a playlist, but see #s 1 and 2 above.)
Help!
Thanks.

In iMovie, 'Play Full Screen' behaves differently than 'Play'  Makes timing errors, cuts off the beginning of commentaries, etc.

You can't disable tap/zoom scaling. What happens if you add a margin and disable thumbnail?
Can you convert them to a Keynote presentation (Hype?)?
One option would be to reduce the original video dimensions and add a frame/mask around it before adding into a book, that way when it is expanded, it sits at a smaller size. Bunch of work, maybe, so unless you have higher rez video, that may be your best option.

  • 7.3 Podcast Playing Problem

2 Problems, really, but they seem very related.
iTunes is crapping out during Audio Podcast playing. On some podcasts it seems to work fine; but on some it will play a couple seconds, then get jumpy for a minute (playing 2-3 seconds during that time), then freeze, using 98%+ of the Processor and not responding.
Additionally, iTunes is being extremely processor intensive when I try to start some podcasts, freezing and using 98%+ of the processor. Sometimes this only lasts a couple seconds (rarely more than a minute), but sometimes it remains frozen.
My initial thought was there's a memory leak in the podcast code, somewhere, but I can't verify that. Any help is greatly appreciated; I know this is sorta two Problems, but I've never experienced either of them before, until the upgrade to 7.3.1.3

Further info, that may be of help:
When the podcast gets "jumpy", if I catch it quickly I can pause, wait a minute, and play again with no problems. This seems to indicate the problem isn't with the podcast itself. Also, playing the podcast in a different player results in no problems.

  • Podcast "Played" Problem

I'm not sure how good the title for this thread is but here's my problem:
When I listen to a podcast on my iPod Nano, it registers it as "played" when I've listened to it (the blue spot isn't there anymore).
When I then go and sync it with my computer, my computer seems to be telling my Nano that it hasn't been played so I have no idea what I have/haven't listened to already!
Any ideas why this happens? It didn't with my old Nano (1st gen)?

I know with previous Nanos (I haven't tried my gen 3 on a PC yet) formatted for Windows, when you first "start" to play a podcast, it is considered played. So, if you just play the first few minutes of a 50 minute podcast, the next time you sync, it would get removed (if you have your settings set to only keep unplayed episodes). On a Mac, it only counts the podcast as being played if you play it to the "end". If you sync after playing a partial podcast with a Mac, it won't remove it from your iPod until you actually play through the whole thing. Perhaps they've updated the latest iPods to have this same behavior? I'm not sure which I like better. When I was using Windows, I liked that I could just play the first few seconds of a podcast that I wasn't really interested in and know it would be deleted next time I sync'd... but then there were podcasts that I didn't get to finish listening to that would also get deleted. Now on my Mac, the ones I want to skip, I have to fast forward through them so iTunes thinks I've listened to them.

  • Internet Connect Problems Since Updates.different than the "settings" issue

Since the last couple of updates I have had nothing but trouble with my wireless connection on my MacBook Pro 104.11. I fixed the last problem but now any time I shut my computer off, I have to reset my wireless router (NetGear) in order to connect with airport. Otherwise it tells me it senses the router but not the internet.
I have 2 other computers running wirelessly and no such problems with them. They properly connect as soon as they are turned on.
    Any ideas?

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106653
Another thing that has worked for many is to just copy/duplicate that Location in Network>Location>Edit Locations..., then use that one.
It's easy to switch locations under the Apple icon.
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.

DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.254.3.183 behind the scenes.
And some Routers/Modems & Macs don't communicate it well.
WE have more if that doesn't work.

  • LR 4 images look and print much different than they did in LR 3 - How do I go Back to LR 3

How do I go back to LR3 ?
LR 4 is a disaster for me
    Dave

You could double-click on LR3, and use LR3.
Or you could calibrate everything properly (monitor and printer) in LR4, and see if you can get things to match (by the way, I'm sure other people have done this and are not having this problem, maybe some of them could jump in here and discuss)

  • Imported NEF appears much different in LR than exported JPEG

Hello there, hopefully someone can help me with this issue. I am using a Nikon D200 w/ LR 2.0 on WinXP Pro. The NEF image I am editing in Lightroom appears much different than what is exported from that image into a jpeg (it does not matter whether it is sRGB, AdobeRGB, or ProPhotoRGB). In lightroom the image is darker and more yellowish than what LR exports from this image. Here is a
link to an image showing exactly what I am talking about. The image on the right is in LR, and on the left is the exported jpeg preview, which looks the same in firefox or windows picture and fax viewer. Just to note, the exported image looks to be correct with what I preview on my camera, LR is what is off. I have also tried all the camera profiles by adobe labs and none of them seem to make things correct. Any help would be awesome, this is driving me nuts because I have no idea what my outputted image is actually going to look like.

The reason why this happens is that Windows has associated an incorrect profile with your monitor. The only way to get a correct profile is to calibrate but you can also cheat and make windows assume your monitor is sRGB (which it isn't). To do this, go to your monitor's properties page, go to the color management tab and delete any profile shown there. This will make Windows assume you have a perfect sRGB monitor and will make Lightroom appear identical to sRGB exports in every other program (even unmanaged ones). They will all be slightly off colour though, even Lightroom, but will probably look like your friend's monitor. After you have done this as a first-aid measure, go out and buy a real calibrator.

  • Publishing different than preview

I am working on a training video series about Moodle.  I have carefully previewed the project to confirm that everything is timed correctly and matches the audio.
However, the published version displays something much different than the preview.  Errors include:
    - 1 slide displays smaller and in the top left corner instead of the full screen area, making all the highlights wrong
    - images from one slide are staying around on another slide
    - transitions (fade in/fade out) do not look right in the published version
    What is going on?

I publish these videos in mp4 format.
I do not understand how the publishing mode would be the issue because I have successfully published over 20 videos using the same mp4 mode. These errors seem like a publishing bug that does not happen all the time.
Am I missing some kind of setting that will allow the publish to produce the same thing that I see when previewing my work?
Additional errors found with other recent videos:
    - audio cuts in and out (plays correctly during preview)
    - text does not appear (appears during preview)
Is there any way this could be a computer issue rather than a Captivate issue?  It seems Captivate related since I am publishing from Captivate...sometimes the videos turn out right, sometimes they have these random errors.  However, Captivate does run slowly on my computer - would that be a cause for publishing problems?
Thank you for any direction that you can provide.

  • Flash.system.System.totalMemory different than Windows mem display

Anyone know why flash.system.System.totalMemory is much
different than what I see FlashPlayer taking up in the Windows Task
    Manager?
I would expect to see some overhead, but the differences I'm
seeing are quite large (i.e. 80MB vs 150MB).
    Thanks

I may have run into something that might be related. The project I am working on was going fine until I added updates and switch from VGA to HDMI. I added the updates via ICE rather than download after install. The OS install went through the normal
routine and rebooted. I removed the installation disk and the system rebooted and started to continue the install process. Then the screen went blank as if the system was going to reboot... nothing. I checked the HDMI output and still nothing. I removed
all the updates and tried again, same exact result. If I power cycle the message says that the install failed.
I went into the BIOS and found the video settings had support for CRT, HDMI and LVDS. I have ran into LVDS issues before. I disable LVDS, and set the system to output from CRT. This time the OS installer worked as expected. My guess is that the video driver
switched to the LVDS screen. You might be getting a video driver update - check the BIOS settings and disable LVDS if enabled.
Sean Liming - Book Author: Starter Guide SIM (WEI), Pro Guide to WE8S & WES 7, Pro Guide to POS for .NET - www.annabooks.com / www.seanliming.com
There's no driver updates, also I don't have the option for LVDS in the bios. The computer has a display port and HDMI, I'm using the HDMI.
I re-imaged the computer and tried updating 1 update at a time to try an isolate the problem. About 5 updates in I realized it would take several hours to complete the job, so I started to group the updates. The problem re-occurred with the following
    group of updates.
    KB2991963
    KB2992611
    KB2993958
    KB3003743
    KB3004361
Unfortunately I don't see a correlation. I re-imaged and re-installed the updates on 3 other identical machines and could not reproduce the problem. Very frustrating...

Revert back to Snow Leopard would be the ideal choice.

    Wonderfully asinine.
Quit the program, it will ask you to save.

  • Colors in FCP looks different than when playing in QT7

The colors of the video's in FCP looks different than when playing back in QuickTime. I wonder if it can be a color management setting in FCP? I have the same problem when playing a clip in AE. I have two FCP machines, but only one of them is having this problem. Any ideas of what I can do to get the right colors back?

Have you enabled Final Cut Studio Color Compatibility in the QT Player preferences?

  • Problem in starting rmid in a port different than the default one

    hi all,
i am experiencing exceptions in running rmid in a port different than a default one.
    if i run
    rmiregistry 2000
    rmid -J-Djava.security.policy=policy
    java -Djava.security.policy=policy -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=<mypath> -classpath <myclasspath> com.myclass.ActivatableRMI <host:port>
    everything works fine
but if i try to specify a port in which rmid should be started, then i have exceptions...
can anyone tell me how to solve my problem? i am running NT 4.0
    thanx and regards
         marco

If you start rmid at port other than the default one
(1098) with -port option, it is necessary to set the
    system property "java.rmi.activation.port" to this
    port.
Rmid internally starts a local registry service
    (LocateRegistry.createRegistry(port)) and binds the
RMI activation system server object with this registry
    service like Naming.rebind("//:" + port +
    "/java.rmi.activation.ActivationSystem",
activationSystem);. Activation system provides a means
for registering groups and "activatable" objects to be
activated within those groups. When a activatable
server object is exported, it is registered with this
activation system, so it should get the stub to the
activation system which is started as part of rmid.
ActivationGroup class provides a static function
getSystem() to get the reference to the activation
system stub. Now it makes use of the system property
    "java.rmi.activation.port" value to contact the
registry service where activation system registered
itself under the name "//:" + value of
    java.rmi.activation.port +
    "/java.rmi.activation.ActivationSystem". If this
property is not set, it uses the default port 1098.
-- Srinath MandalapuThis is an awesome and lovely forum answer (and I saw srinath_babu reply to another similarly in my search), but I would like to ask for just a bit of clarification.
My question is simply making sure I understand the reply above in my own terms...
Suppose that right now my program involving activatables is already working with default port 1098, but that I wanted or needed to change to another port for rmid. Then is this statement true?
    - IF the commandline which which I start rmid specifies port xyxyx,
    - AND IF I added -Djava.rmi.activation.port=xyxyx to the commandline with which I run the setup for my Activatable (i.e. the program that calls Activatable.register method),
    - THEN my code will still work as is (i.e. I wouldn't have to change my existing code to specify the port anywhere in it)?
(If I am not understanding this correctly, please let me know!)
    Thanks very much,
    /Mel

  • Why is MME playing much better than ASIO4ALL

I have a 64 bit acer Aspire R7 with 8GB RAM and runing windows 8.1. i have bin using adobe audition(now using CS6) for about 10 years now and i have never found myself havin this problem:
1)It so happens that my MME drivers are giving less glitches than the ASIO4ALL.(no matter how much i play around with the buffer size)
2)when using the asio4all during play back, the volume is lower compared to that of the MME drivers.
3)the asio4all icon on the system tray keeps flickering from play(green) to an exclamation mark(red) constantly
i cant use my MME for my projects coz i gat quite a bunch of plugins waiting to join the party...hence it will start glitching too sooner than later(((pliz help!!!help help help!!!!

I'm usin the onboard soundcard.i know have to get an external USB soundcard(guilty)...money issues.((but the thing is i used to run the same version of audition on a much smaller laptop(hp,32 bit,3GB RAM) and it worked far much better than the acer.when i play audio in audition with plugin effects:MME used to lag while ASIO4ALL would play it smoothly.n now i have rather the opposite situation.
    ryclark wrote:
What audio interface are you using with Audition? If you are using the onboard soundcard you would be much better off using an external USB connected one with proper ASIO drivers which bypass the operating system completely.
There should be no difference between using ASIO4All and MME drivers since ASIO4All uses the windows drivers anyway. It converts them to ASIO for audio interfaces that don't have ASIO drivers. However from what I hear Win 8.1 may be causing the problem with your glitchy audio especially if you are using the built in audio
What do you mean there is no difference between ASIO4ALL and MME drivers?then why does audition prompt to use ASIO4ALL if available??

  • Why is my macbook DVD player no longer playing commercial DVD's that it used to play perfectly? It reads the disc, but then says not permitted when I hit play. It is much older than 12 months warantee so I hope there is an easy fix?

The macbook reads a disc, and opens up DVD player but then says not permitted when I hit play, or any other button. Sometimes the initial music plays, but the screen remains black and then it all stops. These are shop bought DVD's that have previously worked on here, and work in DVD players, but have suddenly stopped. The computer is much older than the12 months warantee so I hope there is an easy fix? Thankyou!

    Three things you can try:
    1. Clean the superdrive with a proprietory CD/DVD lens cleaner that uses tiny brushes.
    2. Perform an SMC reset:

My experience with Win98 is that it is not a very stable system, regardless of software used. For example, Win2000 and XP are far more stable than 98. I've had it crash on its own if I leave the computer on for several days.
I wouldn't recommend running programs for long time (few days) on this OS.
This being said, can you be more specific in your question. What kind of stability problems did you have, which VIs did you run (if possible post them here), did you change the interrupts and priority levels on those VI, do you get error messages or blue screen....
