Podcast playback constantly hiccups, sputters, and skips in 3.1.2

I was ecstatic about the release of os 3.1.2, since it fixed all the horrible crashing/coma problems I had with 3.0. However, the one respect in which it represented backward progress was in audio playback- specifically of podcasts. (Maybe all playback... most of what I listen to is podcasts, so this might be limited to long audio files?)
If I'm listening to a audio track and go to do something else- wake the phone from sleep, launch mail, launch Safari, or especially something processor-intensive like tweetdeck, the audio playback immediately starts to hiccup, stutter, repeat parts of words, skip sections, and sometimes just gets stuck looping a little portion like a broken record until the new app has fully launched and done whatever it needed to do. This is striking, because audio playback used to be completely rock solid in previous versions of the OS. The problem isn't limited to a particular podcast, so I'm not sure what else to try.
Is anyone else having this problem????

Thanks for the link- sounds like maybe the same problem (somehow didn't find that thread with a search!) I don't have NetBarrier or anything like that installed, so it can't be that. I did notice that it got a little better when I deleted some things from the iPod so that the amount of available space was higher-- but that could be a coincidence, I haven't tried it out enough to know yet. It was certainly never a problem before to have most of your free space filled with music.

Anyone have any ideas or did my wife and myself just get defective phones?
Like I said all songs and podcasts start  like 30 sec in them jump back to the intro then to the end then the middle. Its quite crazy.

    This is really getting frustrating.
I had to replace the original cartridges at 2 weeks because after having run clean printerhead utility (as suggested) 5 times
    they were depleted.
I bought this printer at Best Buy and they won't take it back past 30 days. Recently noticed (too bad and too late for me) the reviews on BB for this printer are not favorable
I would like to know how to get HP to replace this printer, because now the onboard diagnostics are suggesting that I replace the printerhead.
I have over $200 in this thing including the XL ink cartridges I bought and I've only been able to print about 20 clear pages.
Thanks, in advance, for any help you can give me.

HP customer service is sending a new printer head.

  • Audio sputters and then completely cuts out during playback

Hello, everyone.  I've been editing in iMovie for years, and have never come across this problem until today.
When playing back a clip that I've inserted into my project, the audio sputters on and off for about 10 seconds, and then cuts out completely.  If I stop playing, and then start again, the audio comes back, but in about 10 seconds, sputters and cuts out once again.  When I play back the original clip that I imported, this does not happen.  It is only when it is actually in my project.  The audio waves shown below the video are all intact as well.
I've already tried restarting the computer and deleting the iMovie preference file to see if that would make a difference, but it has not.  Any ideas as to what this could be, or even better yet, how to fix it?
    Thanks for your time.

Update: When detaching the audio, this problem goes away.  However, the audio fade-ins from transitions, etc. go away.  Is there any way to solve this problem without detaching?

  • IPad/iPod podcast playback behavior iOS 4.2.1

OK, kids, I've updated my iPad to iOS 4.2.1. I'm getting a new behavior in the iPod/videos function. I have a video podcast with about 20 unwatched episodes. Until I did the upgrade, I would play an episode, it would end and would return to the menu screen. I liked this behavior, but now, under iOS 4.2.1, when the podcast episode ends, it proceeds right into the next one.
I get it, some people might like it the way it is now, and that's fine. My deal is, that's obviously a behavior that's controlled via software. That parameter needs to be accessible to users, and it's not.
First question: is there a secret handshake that will allow me to control this aspect of podcast playback? If not, what would be the process of engaging the iPod software folks to try to create something where such parameters can be made accessible?
This is really a larger issue. There have been one or more playback or menu display behaviors that have changed from one generation of iPod to the next all the way through the line. It gets a little frustrating after figuring out how a particular iPod handles something, only to move on to the next new iPod, or iPod app on an iPhone or iPad, and find out this new piece handles a familiar function in a completely different way.
What's the next step? Thanks for any replies.

The issue I am seeing is that the podcast/tv show/movie actually starts over rather than going back to the menu. (it doesn't move to the next episode as you report). My husband's iPhone running 4.1 has the old (better) behavior. My iPad and my 2g iPod Touch running iOS4.2.1 both do the "finish the video and immediately restart it at the beginning" behavior, which is quite annoying.
I generally will watch a video at bedtime and rely on the iPad to go to sleep after the movie finishes, but now, I have to remember to set the Clock > Sleep Timer for the correct 'movie time' so that the iPad switches off once the movie has finished.
I'm hoping this is a bug and gets fixed. I can't imagine why anyone would want this feature as the default.

  • Playback constantly pauses

    Hello everyone,
I just started running into this issue the past two days, but for some strange reason i will be playing a clip in premiere and after a few seconds of playback i will just stop.. This has never happened before. This is happening even on a clip that is a few seconds long, too. Just to rule out that the resolution was not the issue, i even put it to 1/4 the quality and the same issue would still happen. last week i did a clean install of the OS and re installed creative cloud. i don't know if that may have done anything? Also i backed up the settings on my mac book pro and it took  back up of the software settings i had applied on there and then reaped them when i signed back into CC, i wonder if the GPU settings is what is causing this hiccup. The MBP has a Nvidia GPU, where as my mac pro has an ATI. I went into the settings to see what my playback was set to and it was set to GPU acceleration, but the ATI 5770 is not a supported card for GPU acceleration (at least to my knowledge) so i wonder if when i brought those settings back in it may have messed with my GPU acceleration. however, just to rule that out i switched it back to mercury playback and the same issue still came up again..
    Just to note my machine:
    12-core mac pro
    40gb ram
    ATI 5770
    512 Apple ssd os/apps
    120GB ssd scratch disk
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • Since installing iTunes 7.3, all audio playback on CD/DVD drive skips

    Hi,
I am running Windows XP home edition, and have recently downloaded iTunes 7.3.
Since installing iTunes, all audio playback via my CD/DVD skips/stutters. This occurs in all media playes, Windows Media, Sonic DVD etc. Audio files stored on the hard drive play back fine through these same programs. So far I have updated firmware and drivers for my CD/DVD drive and sound card.
I have looked on this site and Dells, and cant find any solutions as to what the problem may be.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers
    Aidan

One thing you could try is to check your computer manufactures site to see if there is a firmware update for your CD drive.

  • Updated OS 10.3.9 to 10.4.5 now Logic Sputters and can't play entire song

I feel like I'm back in the stone ages here...
I upgraded from OSX 10.3.9 to 10.4.5 and now Logic cannot play my mixes straight through without sputtering and stopping.
I am in the middle of a large mixing project and this is rather embarassing.
I used to have this problem in Logic Platinum 6. I thought those days were over.
Is there anything that I can do to restore the performance I lost in the upgrade to 10.4.5?
    Please help...

    You're Welcome.
Maybe you should just revert to your clone until the project is certainly finished?
    seriously.
If you want to move forward, 7.2.0 was the most efficient for me of 7.2.x. You were using which version on the Panther system?
This record i'm mixing at the moment has around 60 audio tracks per song. It's dense.
A good statistic. I use mostly plugs and can easily exceed this unless plugs are demanding. - see my profile -
So, if you do proceed with Tiger:
Logic Pro > Preferences… > Reset all except Key Commands
if you have no done so.
Set Audio HW/Drivers like so and see if there is an improvement:
    I/O buffer 512
    √ Larger Disk Buffer
    √ 24 bit recording
    Process Buffer = Large
    Rewire = Playback
Then, run Logic, open Activity Monitor.app view all processes
Look for anything unusual - even if Logic is off, and nothing is happening in the foreground - anything demanding happening ( i.e. a background process )?
You can run Onyx, maintenence, clean and permissions and reboot if you haven't done the usual utility stuff.
Depending on how recently you updated, you may just want to leave the machine running overnight ( may as well run Project Manager too ), esp if there are busy background processes in Activity Monitor.
You can also save as project to a new location?
    Otherwise, what 3rd party AUs.
This session is not demanding for your system ( seemingly ) - are you doing anything like traffic jamming your FW or USB busses?

  • ITunes Podcast Playback Bookmark

My podcast playback locations are currently being bookmarked when switching between my iOS devices (iPad and iPhone), though not between my laptop's iTunes and my iOS devices.
Are there any troubleshooting steps I can work through in order to figure this out?

After advice from Roger Wilmut, I contacted iTunes support: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ Then clicked on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'."
This is the response i got back from iTunes support:
    "Hello Richard,

As you can see i didn't get an answer to the question, but i went to the feedback link and submitted my thoughts.
I am going to try to get more from the iTunes support.

  • Latest iTunes update caused static and skips in music

I'm not quite sure how to check what update I last did, but ever since I did it, my music has had a static sound and skips on occasion. I know my friend who also does not have a Mac is experiencing the same thing and I'm wondering if it's connected to the latest update.

There is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues - including problems with Bluetooth devices - that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).
Another possible remedy relates to a potential clash between the 64-bit version of iTunes 12 and Google Chrome; some users have reported that uninstalling Chrome (not just not having it running) resolves the iTunes playback issues without having to install the alternative version referred to above.
Finally, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • Podcast Playback Volume

Have recently really got into Podcasts, great time killer to and from work...however on the whole whenever they play back, they are so quiet. So, for example, trying to listen to Sunday Supplement on the train or bus is impossible due to background noise.....even at full volume....
    Please help!!

If you right-click the podcast in itunes, and then select "Get Info", under "Options", you can adjust playback volume. Have you adjusted the volume here, coupled with the volume controls on the phone?

  • Music cuts off on three tracks about 30 seconds in and skips to the next. how do i fix it?

I downloaded an album and the music cuts off on three of the tracks about 30 seconds in and skips to the next. can i fix it, if so how??, i would really like these tracks for when im running and its driving me nuts

    Hey Apollo10,
That definitely sounds frustrating. If the songs are not playing fully in iTunes, they may need to be redownloaded. After you have redownloaded the songs, they should play fully and you can enjoy them when you go running. If not, please let me know.
Songs in iTunes may not play back completely
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4357
    Symptoms
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
    2. Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
    3. Download your previously purchased song from this list.
Note: iTunes in the Cloud, which allows you to download previously purchased songs from the iTunes Store, is not available in every country. Learn if iTunes in the Cloud is offered in your country
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • External Monitor--Stalling and skipping, rendered cross disolves.

I am watching my video on an external monitor. Every now and then during playback, the video freezes and the audio continues, only to start up again after a few seconds. I have remedied this problem by exporting the video once it is done to a Quicktime movie, but it is somewhat annoying during playback. Any ideas?
Second, after I render, I am viewing the video on the external monitor and cross disolves skip irregularly. A transition will skip, I will go back and replay it, and it won't skip again. After exporting, the skips are gone, but it doesn't help during proofing of video. Is there any setting that can remedy this problem.
    Thanks for the help.

The first thing Iwould look at would be the RT settings in the timeline. Click on the RT dropdown and make sure you are in "unlimited RT" rather than "Safe RT". Also you might lower the playback quality. I've seen this in Imac G5's with not enough RAM

  • IOS 4 - Podcast playback failure

Just upgraded to iOS4 and the iPod app is buggy as h*ll. I found the topic suggesting to resync with iTunes and so I did (on my iMac). One benefit of this was that at least it showed me my podcasts again on my iPhone (which had magically disappeared). It seems to have stopped crashing the iPod app as well.
But playback is still incredibly buggy. When I start playback, it does not show the length of the podcast on the timeline (it just shows 0:00). At the same time, I'm not able to move the slider across the timeline. This holds true for at least two different podcasts downloaded from iTunes.
Any suggestions other than hoping that Apple will quickly release a patch?

The podcast playback issue seems to be related to the last release of IOS4. Prior to IOS4's release I didn't have any issue of playback with (audio) podcasts directly downloading onto my iPhone 3GS. However, I have discovered a work around for iPhone users, which may or may not work with the iPod touch since I haven't tested it.
The problem I discovered is that audio podcasts downloaded to the iPhone directly (not synced with iTunes on your computer) will download fine, however, when attempting to access the downloaded podcasts within the iPod app function of the iPhone it will immediately crash it. I found a solution that if you access the podcast from within the iTunes app section of your iPhone they will stream and play just fine. Hit the iTunes button on your iPhone, select the search function at the bottom, type in the podcast name you are looking for. Select it and hit the Download button. Once it finishes downloading you can then go back into the iTunes search function and look up the podcast again (it should still be listed in your search field) you will then see that the podcast you have downloaded is available to play. Click on it and it will then play without problems.
It's strange though that I'm unable to play the podcast through the iPod application on the iPhone. Navigating to the iPod application, selecting "More" at the bottom, selecting "Podcasts," shows the downloaded audio episodes. If you attempt to access the audio podcast from this interface it immediately crashes and takes you back to the iPhone desktop.
This definitely is a coding bug in the new IOS4 and needs to be addressed by Apple in it's next patch.
