Podcast Playback Volume

Have recently really got into Podcasts, great time killer to and from work...however on the whole whenever they play back, they are so quiet. So, for example, trying to listen to Sunday Supplement on the train or bus is impossible due to background noise.....even at full volume....
Please help!!

If you right-click the podcast in itunes, and then select "Get Info", under "Options", you can adjust playback volume. Have you adjusted the volume here, coupled with the volume controls on the phone?

  • IPad/iPod podcast playback behavior iOS 4.2.1

OK, kids, I've updated my iPad to iOS 4.2.1. I'm getting a new behavior in the iPod/videos function. I have a video podcast with about 20 unwatched episodes. Until I did the upgrade, I would play an episode, it would end and would return to the menu screen. I liked this behavior, but now, under iOS 4.2.1, when the podcast episode ends, it proceeds right into the next one.
I get it, some people might like it the way it is now, and that's fine. My deal is, that's obviously a behavior that's controlled via software. That parameter needs to be accessible to users, and it's not.
First question: is there a secret handshake that will allow me to control this aspect of podcast playback? If not, what would be the process of engaging the iPod software folks to try to create something where such parameters can be made accessible?
This is really a larger issue. There have been one or more playback or menu display behaviors that have changed from one generation of iPod to the next all the way through the line. It gets a little frustrating after figuring out how a particular iPod handles something, only to move on to the next new iPod, or iPod app on an iPhone or iPad, and find out this new piece handles a familiar function in a completely different way.
What's the next step? Thanks for any replies.

The issue I am seeing is that the podcast/tv show/movie actually starts over rather than going back to the menu. (it doesn't move to the next episode as you report). My husband's iPhone running 4.1 has the old (better) behavior. My iPad and my 2g iPod Touch running iOS4.2.1 both do the "finish the video and immediately restart it at the beginning" behavior, which is quite annoying.
I generally will watch a video at bedtime and rely on the iPad to go to sleep after the movie finishes, but now, I have to remember to set the Clock > Sleep Timer for the correct 'movie time' so that the iPad switches off once the movie has finished.
I'm hoping this is a bug and gets fixed. I can't imagine why anyone would want this feature as the default.

  • Sound recorder playback volume low ?

I have a dv6000 notebook , for the first time ever I tried recording sound using windows movie maker  to add ''narration'' but the playback volume is very low .
I tried the windows '' sound recorder '' and got the same result .
I've been through all the standard adjustments and settings and have gone into  ' control panel ' and adjusted 'levels' and everything else with no success .
When I record a video using the sound on my camera the volume is fine - it's just the mic sound that is low whether I use an external mic or the built in ones .

I have the same issue and I see no responses to your inquiry..  This Windows help menu leaves much to be desired.  Im sure I will one day figure out how to work this version that I had no clue I was buying bc it should come with a warning label..  its completely different and agonizing  and great help menu lovely.. Im sorry to be so negative  wish I could help.. Ill sit here all night till I figure it out and then post an option on how to adjust the recording volume.. Unreal..

  • Playback volume variation

My songs playback at different volumes from each other so I find myself constantly having to adjust the volume setting (and occasionally going deaf). Is there a way to fix this from some menu?
    Thank You

You can adjust the playback volume preference for a tune by getting the information and adjusting the playback volume in the the options. If you choose multiple files at once and get info it will adjust them all.

  • ITunes Podcast Playback Bookmark

My podcast playback locations are currently being bookmarked when switching between my iOS devices (iPad and iPhone), though not between my laptop's iTunes and my iOS devices.
Are there any troubleshooting steps I can work through in order to figure this out?

I added a topic in the "Producing Podcasts" discussions sections.

After advice from Roger Wilmut, I contacted iTunes support: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ Then clicked on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'."
This is the response i got back from iTunes support:
    "Hello Richard,
Good Evening! Thanks so much for taking the time to contact me here at iTunes Store support. My name is Breanne and I will be more than happy to help you out today.
I understand that you are concerned that the previews for video podcasts are played in 4:3 format and when you download them they show in 16:9 format.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Please be assured that we are always looking for ways to improve your experience with the iTunes Store which is why we have a form you can fill out to submit your ideas and opinions.

As you can see i didn't get an answer to the question, but i went to the feedback link and submitted my thoughts.
I am going to try to get more from the iTunes support.

  • Ipod playback volume

I use my ipod for Group Fitness classes & always play it at Max volume & then use the stereo system that I hook up to to adjust volume.
I've noticed that the playback volume is not as loud as it used to be even though my ipod is on max & so is the stereo system.
Is there a way to increase the volume on output when I playback?
I also have noticed that some songs thatI purchase from iTunes may not play as loud as others.
    HELP!

Has the *Volume limit* been set to less than maximum? You can tell this quickly by turning the volume on the *Now Playing* screen to maximum and if the speaker icon stays as a speaker, the answer is no, it isn't. But if the speaker icon changes to a padlock when you get to "maximum", then the *Volume Limit* _is set below maximum._
On the iPod, go into *Settings/Volume Limit.* The small up-arrow under the scroll bar is the "limit setting". Turn the scroll wheel to increase the maximum and press the centre button to set it. The bar will return to a lower level. Don't worry about that - it's supposed to, the arrow is what you need to look at. +(Do not press the play button to set the volume limit unless you are going to remember the combination that you will be asked to set as well.)+
Why/how did this happen you ask? I don't know, but as I confirmed my instructions to you (I have an iPod Touch as well, so I get confused +at my age)+ my maximum volume reduced when I came out of the menu - something I realised by turning to max on the *Now Playing* screen and seeing the padlock, which I hadn't seen before!

  • Set playback volume check? Where can I find this

Where can I find the preferences section to Set playback volume check?

    Hello Kevin57013,
It sounds like you are wanting to reduce the maximum volume of your phone or enable Sound Check. These are in the Music Settings named Volume Limit, and Sound Check respectively:
    Music settings
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iphf2d8534c
Sound Check (to normalize the volume level of your audio content)
Set the volume limit. Go Settings > Music > Volume Limit.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • My playback volume on 10 is SOOOOOO low!  What happened??

10.4.1.10 - My playback volume is abysmal.  Other things playback with plenty of volume.  I crank up my PC volume, ITunes volume, my external speakers volume and it's just poo!  Websites with sound are great.  It's not just new music, it's all music.  That "sound check" button can be on, or off, no difference...  I can crank up the volume on each song, no difference...UGH!!  What happened and how the heck do I fix it?!  I mean really?!?!  This is no good, no good I say!

    Figured it out...
In the bottm right where you choose multiple speakers, at some point, I modified the computer output to be lower... that setting stuck and wasnt 'sliding.
This is a default in the design for sure.  But am thrilled I figured it out!

  • Volume slider and playback volume...

    Hi
I recently purchased a 120GB Classic and, due to the fact that I don't hear too well, you won't be surprised I find it too quiet (if only I'd known about the 'cap' beforehand so I could have got one from the USA...).
I bought a half-decent pair of headphones, which has helped, and also got an inline amp (which increases the 'noise' as much as the volume, so I'm not that sold on it...). Anyway, I had the idea of bumping up the volume on iTunes and re-syncing all the songs, so I did.
I wasn't sure what the effect on quality would be, so I knocked it up about halfway and resynced the iPod. Which took forever.
I'm pretty sure the iPod is now louder, but I may be imagining it - I'm tempted to put the bar all the way to the top, but if the increase is purely psychological it seems a waste of time (and it does take time!).
So, does the volume slider affect iPod playback volume?
Thanks for reading, and thanks again if you can help.

So, does the volume slider affect iPod playback volume?
No. If you increase the volume of a song in iTunes, all you do is make it so that the maximum volume on the iPod is reached before the volume bar is at full.
For example, if you increase a track's volume in iTunes by +100% then when it's on the iPod you will find that that track hits it's maximum volume level at about half volume, and turning the iPod up to full volume will not increase the volume any higher after this point. A track which has not had it's volume altered in iTunes will reach exactly the same sound level, although of course you will need to turn the volume level of the iPod to full in this instance.

  • Playback volume problems on burned CDs

When I burn CD's from playlists on my iBook and play them on a home CD player (not iPod), the song playback volumes vary greatly from song to song. Some are very loud and some very soft. Is there any way to control this problem so all songs are about the same volume? The sound check option and going to "file/get info/changing volumes" on individual songs does not help.

The Sound Check option (Playback) and changing the volumes in 'Get info' does not adjust the volume when burning.
Ticking the checkbox 'Use Sound Check' in 'Preferences>Advanced>Burning' (for Audio CD only) might do the trick, but I don't find it satisfactory for me.
You can adjust the volume (gain) for each individual track by using the 'Normalize' function in various audio editors (Audacity, Sound Studio etc.).
This is a lengthy procedure, but it can be a solution when only a few tracks need adjusting. The tracks are permanently altered, unless you save it as a copy.
Maybe there are similar programs, but what really does a good job for me, is 'Jam' (roxio.com). You can select all or selected tracks to 'normalize' them.
Adjusting gain for each track individually is also possible, if some songs need to be louder or softer.
The adjustments will not alter the tracks, but are saved in a separate file.

  • IOS 4 - Podcast playback failure

Just upgraded to iOS4 and the iPod app is buggy as h*ll. I found the topic suggesting to resync with iTunes and so I did (on my iMac). One benefit of this was that at least it showed me my podcasts again on my iPhone (which had magically disappeared). It seems to have stopped crashing the iPod app as well.
But playback is still incredibly buggy. When I start playback, it does not show the length of the podcast on the timeline (it just shows 0:00). At the same time, I'm not able to move the slider across the timeline. This holds true for at least two different podcasts downloaded from iTunes.
Any suggestions other than hoping that Apple will quickly release a patch?

The podcast playback issue seems to be related to the last release of IOS4. Prior to IOS4's release I didn't have any issue of playback with (audio) podcasts directly downloading onto my iPhone 3GS. However, I have discovered a work around for iPhone users, which may or may not work with the iPod touch since I haven't tested it.
The problem I discovered is that audio podcasts downloaded to the iPhone directly (not synced with iTunes on your computer) will download fine, however, when attempting to access the downloaded podcasts within the iPod app function of the iPhone it will immediately crash it. I found a solution that if you access the podcast from within the iTunes app section of your iPhone they will stream and play just fine. Hit the iTunes button on your iPhone, select the search function at the bottom, type in the podcast name you are looking for. Select it and hit the Download button. Once it finishes downloading you can then go back into the iTunes search function and look up the podcast again (it should still be listed in your search field) you will then see that the podcast you have downloaded is available to play. Click on it and it will then play without problems.
It's strange though that I'm unable to play the podcast through the iPod application on the iPhone. Navigating to the iPod application, selecting "More" at the bottom, selecting "Podcasts," shows the downloaded audio episodes. If you attempt to access the audio podcast from this interface it immediately crashes and takes you back to the iPhone desktop.
This definitely is a coding bug in the new IOS4 and needs to be addressed by Apple in it's next patch.

  • IPod Nana - Playback Volume Limit - Changes Locked

I have been having problems with the Playback Volume limit. I set it at 50%, but then it was playing too softly. When I went to adjust, there was no Menu option to modify this. I saw another post that said to press and hold the Menu + center button, until the apple appears. This brought back the menu option.
However, I do not remember putting a password (4 digit number) on it. I tried the combo I use for my iPhone, and I guess I used something different.
Does anyone know how to erase the Volume Limit Combination Lock?
    Thanks!

    Try 0000 as the combination.
If that does not work, you will need to Restore it to reset the combo.

  • Audio vs. video podcast playback

At the end of watching a video podcast I am returned to the episode menu of the podcast I just watched. At the end of listening to an audio podcast I am returned to the main (iPod) menu.
