Podcast playlist missing in Podcast App

Just posted the following under iTunes Feedback. If you agree, please post also.
Thanks,
Okay, you removed Podcasts from the Music App on the Iphone and moved them to the Podcast App. Where did the playlists go? I don't just listen to 1 Podcast. I built a playlist to listen to a mixture of Podcasts. This is step backwards. Please return this missing functionality.

I had this problem when they first came out with the Podcast App so I stopped using it and went back to playlists in regular itunes app. When IOS 7 and 11.1 rolled around I tried the podcast app again because it was supposed to support playlists. The first time I sync'd it up the playlist showed up in My Stations under iTunes Playlists and it worked well enough for a bit. Somewhere in the journey the iTunes Playlists entry stopped showing up in the app as did the playlists themselves. I've deleted the app, reset the phone, and installed the 11.1.1 update today and the playlists still will not show up in the App. I have not restored the phone from a backup because I'm sick of dealing with the fallout every time I do that.
About the only thing that has really changed is my desire to listen to podcasts as much as I was because it has become too much of a pain. If I wanted to work on my computer and software instead of use it I'd get a Windows machine.

  • Podcast Playlist - how enjoying podcasts has become more difficult

Okay, I'll say from the outset that I had no problem downloading and installing the new 2.1 software for my 1st Gen, Ipod Touch. When I look through these posts I see that I am actually pretty lucky that that went so well. But then I noticed this new behaviour in my podcasts.
I think the whole idea of podcasts is that you'd like to hear something "from the radio", but you couldn't at the time it was broadcast and therefore need to download the file and listen to it when you can. Everyone knows this. Sometimes there are a few days in a row where I can't get to listen to the programs I'd like to and therefore end up downloading quite a few podcasts from the same "source" (Christian Science Monitor e.g.). Before 2.1 I would have a "bunch" of these podcasts and whenever I found a few minutes to listen to one, I'd click on it and listen for 5 minutes or so and after it was over my iPod would stop playing. A little while later I'd be able to find some time again and I'd listen to the next one - once again the podcast would end and my iPod would stop playing. I find this a very sensible way to listen to podcasts.
Listening to my songs on the other hand is different. When I want to listen to a song, I find the song (in a playlist or by finding the artist) and play it, but after it's over my iPod would continue to play the songs of that playlist or artist. Okay , music is music and these are all my favourite songs anyway, so why not hear the next song and then the next (until the list is finished). Not always the best solution - when I just wanted to listen to that one song or when listening to the rest of the list simply doesn't fit the situation.
But now with 2.1, my podcast lists are now treated exactly like my playlists. I'll have a "collection" of the podcasts I haven't been able to listen to for a week or so (5, 6 or 7 from one source) all neatly in order from newest to oldest. Because I want to listen to them in order, I click the last one and listen to it to the end - my iPod stops playing. Some time later I find time to listen to the 2nd oldest. I play it and when it ends - what happens?? - my iPod starts playing the next podcast (that the oldest, remember) which I've already heard. This happens every time I listen to one in the list and every time I have to get into my podcast list and turn the playing podcast off, because I've HEARD IT already. (With music I don't mind hearing a song twice). Why this change from 2.0.x to 2.1?? Why are podcasts all of a sudden like music??
Could it be that Apple is losing its grip on programming? (MobileMe, Back-to-my-Mac, PushMail, etc.)
Has anyone else noticed this?? What happened to quality?

    YES!!!!!!
    Its driving me nuts tooo!!!
Currently, I go to bed a night, stick a 30 minute Podcast on, and fall asleep after 15 mins knowing that my Ipod Touch will stop at the end.
Since 2.1 it continues to play ALL the Podcast's in that directory, (over 10 hours worth) so by the morning when I need my Ipod for the train on the way to the office, its flat .. charge all day off the pc at work, listen to it in bed, flat again by the morning..
    Its doing my head in!!!!!!!!
Please at least give us an option to decide if we want to continue to next Podcast or not...
The best gadget I've had in ages appears to have just become another dust collecting bit of kit due to some amazingly poor thought into the design of the end users experience.

  • Please ONCE AGAIN re-add podcasts to the iOS music app

I don't know why you feel the need to continue to try to separate my podcasts from my music, app-wise. You don't on the Mac - iTunes happily does both! I have a lot of podcasts, so i do NOT want to store them in the cloud. I listen to them on my computer (where I download and manage them) and on my phone, and I want to be able to listen to them within the same app as I do music. It was working. I liked it. Your podcast app is cludgey at best, and separating the podcasts out didn't work well last time you tried it. I wish you would have asked someone outside of your company before inflicting this decision upon us again. Please put them back into the music app.

I use  the Nike+ running app that accesses my podcast playlist on the Music app while I am running.  This latest update of iOS now does not let me keep my podcast playlist on my Music app.  Ridiculous!!!  Why did Apple change this??  I can no longer use my podcast playlist WITH Nike+, because Nike+ can not access the new, not improved, Podcast app.
Please for the love of all who buy and use Apple products, don't take our freedom away to set up our iPhones the way that we want them set up!  Please add Podcasts back to the Music app.....PLEASE!!!!!!
    FRUSTRATED!

  • Can I still make a playlist of podcasts with the new podcast app?

Can I still make a playlist of podcasts with the new podcast app?

No, for some reason it's not included as one of the features of the Podcast App.
If you need playlists (as many of us do), then delete the Podcast App and podcasts will return to the music app, complete with podcast playlist functionality.

  • How do I restrict playlists to downloaded podcasts only?

After upgrading to iTunes 12, I've discovered the behaviour of playlists (note, not Stations) has changed with respect to podcasts.
The playlists now include all episodes that can be found in the podcast feed, whether or not I've downloaded them.  This change of behaviour is a problem for a number of reasons but the summary is almost none of my playlists now work as intended, nor can I find a way to make them to.
A solution would be to restrict the playlists to just the podcasts downloaded to the computer (i.e. how it always used to work!) but I can't find a way -
I can't find any playlist criterion that excludes podcasts I haven't downloaded.
I've tried adding a "Location - is - on this computer" criteria to my playlists - see example - but it makes no difference.
Can anyone help - has anyone successfully restricted a playlist to just podcasts downloaded to their computer?
    Windows 7
    iTunes 12.1.1.4
    This doesn't work:
Under the suspicion the new(ish) stations feature is actually trying to achieve the same thing I am, I've spent a lot of time trying reproduce my old functionality (or, indeed, any useful alternative) with no success.  Despite minor improvements in iTunes 12 they're still a hopeless mess.  I doubt the solution lies there
Shame.  It was superior playlisting features (and album shuffle) that converted me to iTunes in the first place (sometime around version 4 or 5 from memory...).
Once I solve this one, I'll then move on to getting podcasts to download reliably again.  That behaviour seems to have changed

Isn't a one-on-one conversation what happens on a support call?  My issue wasn't that I couldn't have a conversation with someone, it's that I couldn't have a conversation with anyone who was knowledgeable....  It wouldn't hurt for apple to reach out from time to time (in the same way Google staffers sometimes do) either, but I've never seen it.
Anyway... what am I looking for?
Podcasting!  (Combined with an intuitive and reliable media manager).  So that rules Spotify out (no podcasts, unless I'm missing something?)
Besides, I have my own concerns about Spotify.  They're a bit of a shambles, and have been for a while.  Probably going to drop my subscription to them.
That's another vote for MediaMonkey then - will definitely look at it again (it's been a while).
Also intend to take a look at gPodder and gPodder.net - might also give me the cross-device synchronisation I've been looking for?  Like many, I can't get Apples iCloud based podcast sync to behave.
    Anyway, thanks for your help.
    Cheers

  • Playlist of podcasts stopping after each podcast

I manage which podcasts, and the order, I want to listen to using a playlist and until recently this worked as I wanted, i.e. when one podcast had finished playing my iPod started playing the next podcast in the playlist. Now it seems to be stopping playback after each podcast, this is very annoying.
Anyone know how I can get the iPod to not stop playback after each podcast?

No, for some reason it's not included as one of the features of the Podcast App.
If you need playlists (as many of us do), then delete the Podcast App and podcasts will return to the music app, complete with podcast playlist functionality.

  • What happened to my podcast playlist in iOS6?

I updated to iOS6 and noticed my podcast playlist disappeared. I listen to a number of programs while I run long distance and do not want to stop, find the next podcast, then forward. Suggestions?

this change is driving me crazy! I never used the smart playlist, since I don't just want the "iPod" in my phone to play "all podcasts I haven't yet listened to", I want to hear them in my selected order of "urgency". for example BBC:s global news come out twice a day so they of course get priority over the movie podcast that coumes out once a week and the documentary that comes out once a month. since I listen to podcasts for hours and hours per day - while doing all my chores, driving and on dogwalks - it would mean a lot of unpractical or even dangerous maneuvres to pull up the podcast app & press play again

  • HT1819 I noticed that some of my podcast are missing from the iTunes store. What is the cause of that?

I noticed that some of my podcast are missing from the iTunes store. What is the cause of that?

That suggests that the tracks are damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

so my podcast madness radio streams and downloads fine from a desktop computer.
but on the iphone 3gs 3.0.1 i get the "server is not correctly configured" error when i try to play the same podcast in the iTunes iPhone app.
any idea the reason for this?

    Hello Carpathianna,
No judgment here on the music you listen to, I have that song too in my library. If iTunes is telling you that the song is missing and you purchased it from the iTunes Store, then just delete it from your iTunes library and then download your song again. • HT5295 How do I create a playlist of my podcasts

AS the title says, how do I create a playlist with the new podcast app?

Hopefully, someone here can put your mind at ease. I'm not confident though. Check out this post I've just found (in the Podcasts for iOS community) https://discussions.apple.com/message/19643117#19643117  which I've linked at the point where the post by user derrific who suggests that if the Podcasts App is deleted, you automatically get back the Podcasts in the Music App function. (I cannot check this for myself, so be wary ...). It's a very long thread, but it may enlighten you.
At least two posts in that thread have suggested using the Apple Feedback to let Apple know about this. Apple don't (as a rule) read these discussions, but they do listen to the Feedback at  http://www.apple.com/feedback/ - although you will notice that there is no specific option yet for the Podcast App under the iOS Apps heading. If feedback is positive enough (such as give us Playlist functionality in the Podcast App) it may have the desired effect.
I'm still using iOS 4.2.1, so cannot use the Podcast App, but from what I've read, I'm dreading the day I can no longer use the Podcasts section of the Music App, because the bad reviews do appear to be justified. I currently use Playlists to play only the Podcast episodes I want, at a given time, so I agree with you that if you cannot create a Playlist within the App, it is, as you say, a stunningly dumb move.

  • HT5295 Creating a podcast playlist

I download talk radio shows daily, import them to iTunes, and then play them through the iPod app on my iPhone.  However, I'd rather use the podcast app because I like the single button 15 second jump back and forth, and it would also allow me to keep my music separate and "bookmark" where I left off on the downloaded file.  Will the stock podcast app (or a third party version) allow me to import a playlist and play them that way rather than "subscribing"?

    Hello jfree66,
I love listening to podcasts too!  The following article answers your question about playlists on the Podcast app in the section clled iTunes Playlist Syncing:
About the Podcasts app for iOS
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5295
    iTunes Playlist Syncing
Playlists with podcasts are now shown within the Podcasts app.
Note: iTunes Playlist syncing is not compatible with iTunes Match.
    Happy listening!

  • How can I sync a podcast in iTunes to Podcasts app, but not Music app

When I first got the podcast app I had three podcasts set to sync to my iPhone. Two were podcasts I'm subscribed to via iTunes Music Store and one is a podcast downloaded from a website as individual files (I changed the type to Podcast). The first time I lauched the Podcasts app all of them were there and I was happy. Even though they were now in my Podcasts app I subscribed to them from the app (except for the one that I didn't get from iTunes) I then turned off podcast syncing in iTunes so it wouldn't sync podcasts to both my Music app and my Podcasts app. Maybe this wasn't necessary but I didn't want duplicates and I found nothing online telling me if syncing would result in two copies or not so I chose to turn it off.
Now I've listened to all of the episodes of the one I downloaded from a website and I want to put more, newer episodes of it on my iPhone. However, I can't figure out how to get them from iTunes to the Podcasts app. The only thing I can think of would be to turn on syncing again but as mentioned above, I'd like to leave syncing off.
    Any help appreciated.

Unfortunately since the Podcast App is not part of iTunes, you cannot sycn from iTunes.  You have to subscribe to the podcast from inside the Podcast App.
Do this by clicking on the gear in the top right hand corner. Then turn "Subscription" on.  While you're here decide with order you want to sort them, oldest or newest first.  Be aware that, to my knowledge, your IOS device must be awake to download the podcasts you subscribe to.
To delete podcasts you've listened to, simply swipe from right to left on the podcast and tap on the delete button when it appears.  This is done by individually, just like in Mail. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to select multiple episodes to delete at once.

  • My iPod Classic will no longer allow me to create podcast playlists.  I've restored it twice.  What is the problem?

My iPod Classic will no longer allow me to create podcast playlists.  It create music playlists.  I've restored it twice.  What is the problem?

Is the problem that you can create them in iTunes, but they are empty on the iPod itself? If so, I had that problem, and the issue appeared to be that playlists that used MediaType=Podcast didn't seem to transfer. If, on the other hand, I gave all podcasts a Genre of Podcast, it worked better. In general, with the older iPod classic, I found that playlists based on MediaType didn't work that well.

  • Podcast playlist no longer works

I just synced my ipod nano, and my podcast playlist no longer works. This seems to be due to an upgrade to iTunes 9. It seems to only want to deal with music files in playlists, not podcasts. What am I doing wrong?

Found an answer in the following thread:

  • ITunes 9 no longer supports iPod to sync playlists made with podcast files

With the last iTunes upgrade my iPod can't recognize those playlists I had previously created with podcasts files downloaded using iTunes. They just have disappeared from the list in the section Playlists of my old iPod 5G. The same occurs with a new iPod Touch 3G, thus it seems to be related with some change in my computer's software rather than the iPod.
With this last v.9 upgrade all my old podcasts had also disappeared from the section Podcasts but I eventually I could find the cause and fixed it: By default iTunes 9 is configured so that those podcasts which have been totally or partially listened are not synchronize. This can be easily modified opening the Podcasts tab in the iTunes device settings and change the options in 'Sync Podcasts'.
I'd really appreciate I could transfer again my podcast playlists to my iPod. I find rather disappointing to lose the iPod feature I've probably being used most frequently during the last 3 years. It'd thank anyone who could tell me some way to go around this constriction. Otherwise I hope this feature to be supported by iTunes in future upgrades.

I noticed that the same topic was posted in September as an iPhone issue. The discussion also centered around smart playlists. Although a few workarounds were posted, mostly involving changing the podcast genre to "Music" from "Podcast", I have not been able to sync these playlists.
I want to simply create a playlist with podcasts and sync these playlists to my ipod Touch. This is handy, if not essential, for safe enjoyment of my podcasts while driving.
Is Apple considering a fix for this ?! Or is there a workaround ?
