Podcast Playlist Sort issue

I wish I had not downloaded iTunes 9. When I synced my iPod to the new update the playlist I have of Podcasts is now sorted by Artist, when in iTunes it is sorted by date, which I prefer. Also, other playlists containing podcasts (like KEXP Song a Day) push those items to the bottom, and again sort by artist.
If this is how it's going to be in iTunes 9, is there a way to get 8 back?

Perhaps this has to do with the podcast itself or the way you made your playlists. I made mine manually. I noticed that when I went in to the podcast section, iTunes was wanting to download podcasts that I already have. So if your playlists are auto playlists that could be the reason.
The podcasts I've collected are for learning a new language, so they are not time dependent. If you are looking for a continuous update, you might have to wait for Apple to fix the problem. If not, you could simply make manual playlists and then try changing the media type again.
I sympathize with you though. My iPod was very organized before this upgrade. I will be making fixes for a while.

  • Playlist sorting issue?

My songs won't match the order they are put in on itunes when a sorting choice is reversed..... why? This used to work before.
    Here are the details:
If I set a playlist to sort by title, it works when it is on A at the top. But if I click title again, so that the list is now setup so that A is at the bottom, it won't sync correctly. Same thing is true with other ways of sorting the playlists. I click on Date Added so that the oldest songs added are on the top, sync, and it works/syncs correctly on my ipod, but then when i click Date Added again so that the most recently added songs are at the top, sync, and it doesn't work (oldest songs are still at top when I want the newest added ones....).

Sort it the way you want, then right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order.

  • Strange sorting issues with podcasts?

I subscribe to the Onion News Network podcasts, the audio only versions, and no matter what information I change I cannot get my podcasts to sort together. iTunes keeps them together in the finder, but the app separates them. I've had two separate icons for the past few years, and now there is a third! Please see the image below and help if you can. The second view only shows 3 podcasts, as seen below.
P.S. The new icons randomly show up when the podcasts are refreshed. Is it something on Onion's end? If so, why is nobody else asking about this!

    Hi Vetsrini,
I have implemented the above mentioned code in my logic. But it works fine only when the nodes in the XML has the data. In case if the XML has null value in one fund, It is not sorted according to the latest records. Can u please provide an alternative how to sort the data using date? I have read in ur previous posts that the date needs to be converted into Canonical Format inorder to sort according to date. Can u please send me the syntax how to convert a date into Canonical Format? Right now the format of the date in my XML is in MM/DD/YYYY format. Please help me. I am struck up with this only issue which is causing me a trouble since 1 week.

  • IPod Touch Podcast Playlist Issue

I have a brand new iPod Touch and my podcast playlist has disappeared off my device. Twice.
When I plug it into my computer, I see the playlist in iTunes as if nothing has happened. Episodes were initially downloaded through iTunes and transferred onto the iPod. They were updating fine until yesterday when it was syncing up the data and the playlist showed zero episodes.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Delete all podcasts and resync
To delete all Podcasts go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Podcasts and delete them if you can
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • ITunes 7.7 and iPod Shuffle - What's up with the Podcasts Playlist?

I think that lots of the problems that people are having are a result of whatever changed in iTunes 7.7. After updating to the newest version of iTunes, my Shuffle wouldn't play and would only flash green-orange-orange (indicating that there was nothing on the Shuffle.) I noticed a new playlist called Podcasts, so I moved my podcasts there and the Shuffle played them fine, but I couldn't access any music. It seems that only the Podcast playlist is active.
In troubleshooting, I accidentally deleted the Podcast playlist and this meant I could switch between podcasts and regular music again. However, I lost the ability to manually sort my podcasts. I've had this problem before and resolved it by rebuilding the iTunes library. This time this didn't help - I futzed around for hours trying to get this essential feature (manual sort) working again. I deleted and re-installed iTunes, re-built the library and library.xml files multiple times, reset the Shuffle countless times (both from within iTunes and with the stand-alone utility) and swung the dead chicken three times over my head.
Nothing worked until I moved my music files to my desktop and deleted the iTunes folder from my music folder. I then re-built the library from the folder on the desktop (this caused the music files to be copied to the iTunes folder, rather than just creating the iTunes library) and manually re-subscribed to my podcasts. Once I did this, I could again manually sort my Podcasts into whatever order I wanted.
An interesting thing I noticed.... no matter what I re-installed or how many times I reset the Shuffle, the Podcast playlist never appeared again. Anyone know where to find any documentation on this Podcasts playlist and what it is supposed to do?

I wondered about this playlist too when I first saw it, didn't see the need for it until I discovered my ipod would no longer play my podcasts. So far haven't tried music but adding them to this playlist means I can now listen to them.
i hate the fact that when you start itunes it simply tells you there is a new version and if you don't update it keeps bugging you without any way to see what the update is for! Where are the release notes? Other than turning off auto update there's no way to avoid this annoyance. I wish apple would simply tell us what has changed so we know if we must upgrade or if it's simply a handy feature update. in the case of 7.7 I wouldn't have updated if I read the forums first and from now on, auto update is off and I'll simply check on my own schedule for updates and if one is found will read the forums as these are the source of info since apple gives nothing.
I would think that Apple would have gotten about 15 people with all different ipods (wouldn't be hard to get them) and simply get each one to update to the latest version of itunes without supervision or info and see if anyone reports issues. Surely one of them would have said "Hey what's this new podcasts playlist thing?" and they would have thought, maybe a release notes would be needed here...

  • Podcast Playlist Ordering Reversed (6th Generation Nano)

For several years now I have had a smart Podcast playlist in iTunes that captured all my unheard podcasts in order of oldest to newest.  This playlist synced to my 6th gen Nano, no issue.  I recently had to send my Nano in for repair (Apple decided to just give me a new one to replace).  When configuring the new nano, my playlist no longer exists.  I fixed that problem on the Podcast playlist option.  Now however, my playlist only plays newest to oldest. I have checked that iTunes playlist in sort order I want, same with Playlist listing when Nano connected, etc..
Any suggestions on how to fix?  Looking to get my Podcast playlist back to playing oldest to newest (work with my prior 6th Gen Nano just last week).
    Thanks.

  • My iPod Classic will no longer allow me to create podcast playlists.  I've restored it twice.  What is the problem?

My iPod Classic will no longer allow me to create podcast playlists.  It create music playlists.  I've restored it twice.  What is the problem?

Is the problem that you can create them in iTunes, but they are empty on the iPod itself? If so, I had that problem, and the issue appeared to be that playlists that used MediaType=Podcast didn't seem to transfer. If, on the other hand, I gave all podcasts a Genre of Podcast, it worked better. In general, with the older iPod classic, I found that playlists based on MediaType didn't work that well.

  • Ios 5 playlist sorting problem

I'm having a problem with my iPhone 4S playlist sort order after restoring from a backup from my iPhone 4.  I have several playlists that I want sorted first, so I've put numbers in front of them.  On my iPhone 4, the playlist sort order is correct:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    A
    B
    C
However on my iPhone 4S the order is:
    A
    B
    C
    1
    2
    3
    4
I can't seem to be able to put my numbered ones first anymore!  Anyone know what the problem is or a solution?

  • Recently Played Playlist sorting

    Hello
I recently bought a 6th generation ipod nano...On syncing the nano to my PC I found that the Recently Played playlist sorts in alphabetical order by artist on the ipod but sorts by most recent on itunes...Is there a way to change the sort on the nano? I have already gone into the items under the nano on itunes and changed it in there but the nano does not change.
    thanks

My Recently played playlist is not correct. My setting is:
Match all of the following rules:
Last played is in last 3 days
    Playlist is Music

Delete the rule saying "Playlist is Music" and see what you get.
Also, make sure you have it set for Live Updating.

  • Geetting mp3s to show up in my Podcast playlist/folder

Is there a way I can get mp3's I've put on my Touch to appear in my Podcast playlist/folder?
I have a number of podcasts I don't get through iTunes that I copy on to my Touch in a custom playlist weekly. So they go into my Music playlist/folder.
I can switch the Media Kind to Podcast through iTunes, in which case they are treated like a podcast when I play them (speed controls, bookmarking, etc. - which is what I want), but I can no longer delete them from my Music playlist/folder when I'm done (they aren't there). I have to change them back to a Music Media Kind first, and then they show up.
I presume that if I could get them to show up in the Podcast playlist/folder, I could delete them there just like a podcast downloaded through iTunes.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have a similar problem.
I have a bunch of MP3 and MP4 music files on my computer... pretty sure they are podcasts and not single music files.
But when I sync my iPod to my PC, under the iTunes Library the files show up as Music and not as Podcasts as I'd like. Is that how it's supposed to work? I already have one file (MP3 downloaded first from my computer) that correctly shows up as a podcast.
Or only do podcasts I get through iTunes get sorted into the Podcasts folder?

  • Podcast Playlists

Prior to iTunes 9.0 I had a playlist of Podcasts that worked great and now with iTunes 9.0 the Podcast Playlist would not sync.
The new iTunes 9.0.3.15 hinted at a fix for this but I am still having the same problem.
Anyone else having the same issue and any suggested fixes?

A quick update: Previously the Podcast bug affected only the playlist order, but in the current iTunes 9.0.3 and iPhone 3.1.3 firmware (for example) the bug will remove any Podcast in a playlist from the iPod section of the device. If the Playlist is comprised of only podcasts, the playlist will not even be visible on the device (it will show in the iTunes sync).
To return podcasts to a playlist, you have to use the iTunes 9 trick:
    - Right-click your particular playlist and choose EDIT SMART PLAYLIST
    - Turn off LIVE UPDATING
    - SYNC
Then your podcasts return in a playlist in the correct order, but you'll have to toggle it on again to update the playlist list.
This bug has existed since iTunes 9 and it seems to only be getting worse. Hopefully Apple will fix it soon - I can't believe they don't want us to listen to podcasts in a playlist!

  • Front Row sorting issues

    Hello,
I know this issue has been posted several times and without any real solutions. But I'm going to ask again anyway in case the magical hacking gnomes have found a work-around.
I have many sorting issues. There seems to be a lot of kvetching on here already about how Front Row sorts TV shows. But not only do my shows come up backwards within seasons, in some cases seasons themselves are out of order. For example, I have all 3 seasons of 30 Rock (purchased through iTMS) and they go season 1, season 3, season 2. Several other shows with multiple seasons are the same.
But I also have a music sorting issue. The first part of this issue has to do with compilations. I've got several compilations in my library, and in iTunes I've sorted them by Various Artists rather than individual artists. In Front Row, if I scroll down to "V," there is no "Various Artists" like you might expect but instead a list of all the artists in all the compilations completely out of order. (Actually, they're ordered by their track number on the different albums. Yeah. That makes sense.) I could deal with these artists showing up in their normal places alphabetically, but not all lumped together under V.
The other issue has to do with albums with one artist who has some tracks that feature other artists. Kanye West's "Graduation" is a good example. About half the tracks on the album are him "featuring Jamie Foxx," for example. So I put "Kanye West" in the sort field of this album so it displays properly in iTunes. Not only does this seem to have no effect on how things are sorted in Front Row, but there's actually multiple "Kanye West"s now, each one identical, as well as multiple "Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx," lines and all the other multiple artist track. Uh...what?
So I know that Front Row for some ridiculous reason is (a) not customizable and (b) operates under completely different sorting rules than iTunes (which makes no sense), but if anyone has any advice or tips or comments or whatever, that would be greatly appreciated.
I've considered switching to a different media management program, but what I like about Front Row is its simplicity. I don't really feel like learning a whole new system (let alone getting my wife to buy into that idea). I've got better ways to spend my time. So, it's a trade off, I guess.
Anyway, Apple Gods? Are you out there? Are you listening?

I can't believe we're still banging on about the sorting problems. Apple have seen fit to provide a number of features to allow the user to get iTunes working the way they like, e.g. grouping compilation artists and the use of sort fields. I think you can now even keep compilation artists grouped on the iPod. But why oh why do they then totally ignore this for the AppleTV and Front Row (which look like the same codebase to me)?
I have hundreds of genuine Artists that I want to see listed in the Artists' list, but not the thousands of others that appear on compilations. They don't even sort the artists by the Artist Sort field that they themselves provide in iTunes. This makes a nonsense of trying to use either the ATV or Front Row.
Playlists are no help as they simply lump all contained tracks in one great list. Useless.
The annoying thing is, they can get it right. iTunes just gets better and better in this regard, each release sorting out more of the omissions of earlier versions. But ATV and Front Row - nope, nothing. Still just as stupid as always. Just what will it take to convince Apple to 'sort' (ha) this out? How can they justify such entirely different ways of working on their different products?

  • Podcast playlist no longer works

I just synced my ipod nano, and my podcast playlist no longer works. This seems to be due to an upgrade to iTunes 9. It seems to only want to deal with music files in playlists, not podcasts. What am I doing wrong?

  • Some Podcast Playlists not syncing from itunes to ipod

There's no problem with the actual podcasts syncing to my ipod and they play on the ipod.  The playlists are the same in both itunes and the list of podcast playlists on the ipod tab in itunes.  I've reset the plays, deselected and reselected, set them to not auto delete.  I've 'Marked as Watched' and then 'Marked as Unwatched'.  All the playlists are set up the same way.  I've tried sycing using both methods of 1, using the 'File> Devices>Sync xxxx etc and 2, the sync tab in bottom right corner of the 'Podcasts' tab(ipod tab in itunes when ipod connected).

    Just a stab:
The song titles need to have a check mark next to them in order to sync.
    Thanks ... Ken
