Podcast Project

Hi Guys,
I'm a 3rd year IT student in college, and I'm about to begin a project on podcasting. I need to do a bit of research into them, so I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a bit of info on things like bandwidth issues, security issues, transmission protocol, types of codec's used, etc. I have found a bit of info on these topics but would like to go a bit deeper so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Here are some links from my bookmarks - they don't have all of the info you requested, but they might contain some helpful paths to follow.

  • Loops not showing up on a specific project?

    Hi there,
A quick question: I've only been working with Garageband 3 for a few months and have never encountered the following problem before.
I'm working on podcast project that involves some of the preinstalled Garageband loops. Today, when I opened the project and went to open the loop browser, none of the loops were visible at all. I opened a new GB project to see if they were missing, but they're visible.
I can see the loops in the Finder, and I can access them from a new GB project, but on my existing file, they just don't show up. I've tried dragging the folders back into the loop browser, but they're still not recognized.
Is there any reason that loops would be "hidden" only while a certain file is open? Perhaps the solution is to just start over with a new file that allows me to access the loops, but I'd rather not start all over if I can help it.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -JK

    Hangtime,
Thank you so much -- this was news to me.
I should confess that this was for a student's project (I'm teaching a high school podcasting class for the first time this semester). She was completely stumped, and I couldn't figure out what she had done...
In an effort to transform the "speed" of the voices, she had changed the song to 5/4 time, which removed all the loops from consideration. Since the podcasting projects don't ask up front what the tempo, time, and key of your songs are, I didn't even know they had these attributes assigned to them.
Thank you, thank you -- this was just the prodding I needed to get this worked out.

  • Photos missing from Podcast

I am attempting to publish my podcast using Garageband 3.0.2 and iWeb 1.1.1. Everything EXCEPT the podcast track is publishing. I've tried it twice. When I review prior to publishing, the photos in the podcast track all work perfectly. However, when I publish, it the episode artwork is all that I see.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't know what you're doing wrong but as you can see HERE I can get a podcast with photos onto an iWeb page no problem.
    Let's re-cap:
-You open Garageband and start a new podcast project, place your photos, then add audio.
-When your podcast is finished in GB you select Share/Export Podcast To Disk...
-Then you drag that file onto your iWeb page and Publish.
That's what I did to get it working... what R U doing different?
p.s. I put my "test podcast" onto a blank page instead of a podcast page... try that and see if it makes a difference. Also make sure to Export to Disk then drag that file into iWeb instead of selecting Share/Send Podcast To iWeb... that too might make a difference. This is my first time playing around with the podcast features in GB and I think it's kinda cool.. even though I'm partial to video podcasts myself.
Either way let me know how it goes.

  • Assigning and exporting podcast artwork

The podcast artwork that is exporting with my episodes seems to be stuck on the same one all the time.  I'm not sure how to place the correct episode artwork for each new episode of my podcasts in the GarageBank window.  For instance I have one GarageBand podcast project, but then I might have 8 episodes (each with different tracks) underneath.  I have place new podcast artwork in the lower, editing window, but it's indicating chapters.
Is there any documentation on how to do this correctly?
    Thank you,

I think it's not possible to make any cogent comment unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page; this can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image - or where it should be - and choosing 'Copy link'.  Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

  • GarageBand project won't import correctly into another project

I created a long podcast project using GB 3.04. The project consisted of one voice track. I decided to break it into two projects so that I could make it into two episodes. I created a new project and dragged part one to it. This worked just fine -- I was able to import other audio files and create my finished episode. However, when I created a new project for the second episode and dragged part two to it, the track was truncated to a fraction of its size and it contained no sound. The original of part two plays normally when I open it, but several attempts to import it as a track have produced the same result. Is there some setting that I accidentally tripped, or is the project file just corrupt? I don't want to have to re-record the track, but I've resigned myself to the possibility. Thanks.

Sorry, guess I didn't explain myself well. The original GB project consisted of one voice track that was around 45 minutes long. I decided that I didn't want the podcast episode to be that long, so I split the track region into two regions. Using the Edit -- Copy command, I created a separate GB project and pasted the second of the two regions into it. I tested the new project to make sure that it played properly, then saved it, re-opened the original, and deleted the second region (since it was now in its own project file). I named the original "part 1" and the new project "part 2". I then created a 3rd project file, to which I dragged the part 1 file and added music, imported mp3s from other podcasts, etc. This went off without trouble. However, when I attempted to do the same thing with part 2, I ran into trouble. I dragged the file for part 2 into a new project file, but instead of 18 minutes of voice recording, I get 3 seconds of dead air. If I open the file for part 2, it plays normally. I don't think I did anything differently with the two regions, but it wouldn't be the first time I've changed a setting or something without realizing it.
    Thanks for your interest.

  • No video when viewing podcast stream page made with iWeb08

I created a podcast project yesterday with iWeb08. Used compressor 3 ipod 420 preset to enode a .m4v. It plays fine on a Mac but PC users only hear the audio when going to podcast streaming site made with iWeb08.
These are some language lessons that I need to get running today:
    http://www.olc.edu/~bchargingcloud/Lak-language/Podcast/Podcast.html
    thank you

I took a look at your site on a Windows machine, in Internet Explorer - it DOES play the video, but only if QuickTime version 7 is installed. I.E. is not currently designed to alert viewers that they need the QT-7 plug-in - so you may need to add that information to your site.
Anybody with an iPod or iPhone will already have QT-7 installed on their Windows machine.
Fascinating project, by the way! Congratulations!

  • New Podcast Episode

When I open New Podcast Episode its evaporated! No trouble opening New Music Project, New Movie Score or Open Existing Project for my music ventures. I have checked the Template Folder and it holds New Movie Score only....no New Podcast Episode. Have also reinstalled iLife'06 and it's still missing. Seems strange in that everything else in in tact.
Can anyone help me out here? I've never been able to start a Podcast Project.

I've had a similar problem, and indeed only a radical System re-install helped. Before you take such a radical measure, you should check some things:
    - Does the problem exist in other Apple programs? Like TextEdit, or iMovie? (Was the case with my computer.)
    - If not, the problem seems to be GB specific, and you don't probably need to re-install the whole System. The steps to take are
    1. Delete GB's two prefs files (com.apple.garageband.*).
    2. Repair permissions.
    3. Log in as a new user and see if the problem persists.
    4. If all fails, delete all GarageBand files and re-install only GarageBand.

  • Podcasting a PDF file

Has anyone out there podcasted a PDF file?
I'm looking for an example to find out if it's something that will enhance my current podcast project.

    OK
I've got the PDF file I wanted on the Allison Crowe podcast.
AND it finally got registered with the music store
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=161125382
Now I'm trying to think up other ways a PDF file could be useful.
    Got any other good ideas?
I mean, you're like a level 3. That's like I'm supposed to bow before you. If you were a level four I'd have to cower. And level 5 man, whoa! Let's not go there.
Kudos! to the apple guys that figured this one out!

  • How can I create chapter markers that iTunes will recognize?

I recently purchased several audiobooks from Barnes and Noble which are encoded as MP3s with chapter markers inserted into the metadata in a proprietary format. I am trying to convert them to appear properly in iTunes.
It appears that I could import them into a GarageBand podcast project, and create markers by hand there, but that is very slow and impractical for dozens of hours of audiobooks.
I would like to simply edit the metadata associated with the file so that iTunes will recognize them.
Here is an example MP3 audiobook file with proprietary chapter metadata:

The resulting file appears to have chapter markers in the same format as the iTunes audiobook format, however the chapter markers don't show up in iTunes, QuickTime Player or on my iPhone. VLC however does recognize the chapter markers.

Edit: I am using iTunes 10.1.2 if that makes any difference.

    Hi,
WS20000077 this std. Workflow for the PR Release this has different levels of approvals, Depends on the no. of approvals it will flow.
The approver can picked using the User Exit M06B0001 (EXIT_SAPLEBNF_001), here you have to write a logic to pick the Approver.
The approval workitem comes to SAP Inbox, once the approver click the workitem it will open the Transaction, there the user can approve.
And for BUS2009 issue , discuss with Functional Consultant check configuration done separately  for Purchase requisition item.

  • Sound distortion after share with iTunes

I have used Garage band to record several lectures without any problems.  Over the past week, any time I share it with iTunes, I sound like a chipmunk in the play back.  I have tried converting the tracks into a new music and new podcast projects but it still does the same thing once I share it with iTunes.

the song on the iPod may not have been updated. be sure to delete the song from iTunes, update the iPod so that the song is removed, export the song from GB again, and finally resync the iPod
(an even better chocie would be to quit GB, rename the project ( http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#renameproject ), open it and export. this way you can be sure you're playing the updated file)

  • Two Track Video Recorded

I have an iChat recorded by two tracks (both users on each side of each other) in the video. Since the movie is two tracks instead of one (video & audio), when I upload it to YouTube, it just shows one user. Same in iMovie, although both sides appear in the timeline, when my mouse moves over my side, it still plays the other persons.

do I have any of the others?)
Hard for me to tell from here. Surely you would now if you paid $30 for QT Pro or went to the trouble of downloading MPEG Streamclip from Square-5 (even if it was free).
How would I do it with GarageBand?
In any case, to convert in GarageBand, create or open a Podcast project and drop the source file to the work area. Get rid of any unwanted tracks that may be left over from your old/new podcast project. Make sure the "end" point for the project is aligned with the drop-imported content you just added. Now select the "Export Movie to Disk..." Share menu option. Select the "Expert" setting, press the "Export" button, and wait for the real "Export" window to open. When it does, select the process you ant to use. You can use "Movie to MPEG-4, DV Stream, TV, iPod, iPhone, or QuickTime" options. If you know little or nothing about conversion settings, you may want to use either the TV, iPod, or iPhone pre-set option. All other options require additional user settings.

  • Garageband unresponsive after opening

I'm running the latest version of Garageband on Lion. GB was working absolutely fine, but yesterday it started acting erratically and then became unresponsive.
Basically this is what happened/is happening:
Opened GB, reopened recent podcast project. Added MP3 file to one of the tracks, GB then freezes. I'd used this exact MP3 in other podcasts so there's no reason to think its corrupted.
When I open GB, the icon bounces, the light goes on under neath it to signify its running, but it doesn't actually appear until i click the icon again.
Once its open, i can't select anything, minus the garageband/file/track options at the top. When i scrol over the clock next to the timer it highlights, but i can't select it, and the bars next to the 'male voice' track fluctuate as if to indicate its still registering sound. But i can't select anything, at all.
This pocast has had a lot of work put into it, including two interviews directly recorded into GB, and i really don't want to lose it. Any ideas?
Any help would be hugely appreciated, i'm already past the deadline so need to get this fixd asap.
    Luke

    Anyone?

  • How to add titles to GarageBand File

I am looking for a way to show a large attractive opening title on the first screen of a podcast-- I'd love to have something eye-catching, like the Titles on iMovie. (I am doing this with 90 middle-school students-- each one has his/her own podcast project.)
I had thought that we could create a short 5-second Title-sequence in iMovie and just insert it at the beginning of the Podcast, but when I tried to bring it into the project, GarageBand infomed me that I cannot mix video with the podcast track-- that I must choose one or the other. Unfortunately, we have already laid out the rest of the pictures for the podcasts, so we don't want to start all over again in iMovie. I am looking for another solution.
Is there any way to have the Chapter titles show up ON the screen?
The only other solution I thought of is to put together a title slide in Word with large text laid over a picture.... but I was hoping there was a more elegant solution built-into GarageBand.
Thank you, in advance, for your help!

Well, you can save some of the individual frames you made in imovie and make those your title slides.

  • Can't drag and drop MP3 files into GB since Snow Leopard upgrade

Not sure if this is a known issue but ever since I have upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6), I have only been able to import (drag & drop) some MP3's into a podcast project. For example, some files I was able to import before, no longer can be dragged and dropped to create a new track.
I've tried creating a new podcast project but thats not working either. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Ben

I just read another from another website - http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/OddBallProbs.html
that if you choose delete the prefernce files .plist/.cs and use "SAVE AS" vs "SAVE" the files I referred to above get saved when attempting to open th project again. I tried it and it seems to work for me now. I hope this helps others with the GB *"File Not Found"* dilemma in Leopard and Garageband V5.1

  • Listening to track as it's being recorded?

    Hi all-
I have a number of audio-only interviews that were recorded years and years ago that I'm trying to archive using Garageband. I'm doing this from my stereo system to my G5 using the iMic I bought at the Apple store.
Though it's not exactly what I'm doing, I'm using Garageband's Podcast project settings and picking a single track, depending on whether the primary interviewee is male or female. This arrangement is working quite well; the quality is very good and I'm generally pleased.
The issue/question I have is how to listen to the audio as it's being recorded. My computer will happily make all the various sounds it normally makes (alert sounds, new email, new chat message, etc.) but there seems to be no way to listen to the input into GB. I can see the waveforms, I know it's recording it, but I don't understand why I can't listen. I'm guessing they figure you don't want the echo or feedback, but in this particular situation that won't happen, so is there any way to enable it?
    Thanks,
    Ron

Thanks...don't know why it didn't occur to me to check the track info
