Podcast rss feeds?

Is there a free dowload to use with Mac for creating RSS feed links?

Firstly, forget about the 301 redirect: it's not worth bothering with that.
This page gives an explanation of what you should do:
http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move
but though I'm not really familiar with Podomatic I'm afraid it may be the case that they don't allow you access to the feed nor provide a method for adding this tag. That's something you will need to check with them, but it's not uncommon with these online services who have no interest in helping you to leave them.
Failing the recommended method, all you can do is email podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them nicely if they can move the Store's attentions to the new feed - I can't promise they will, but they have done for others. Give them the Store page URL and the URLs of both feeds.
Unfortunately, where the first method will also automatically redirect subscribers, this method won't, so they will be left hanging. If you still have access to the old feed you should add an episode just in that one in which you ask people to resubscribe to the new feed.

• Podcast RSS Feed - iWeb to Rapidweaver?

I currently have a podcast on a website that was created in iWeb and is hosted on MacHighway. The podcast is listed on iTunes. I'm transitioning my site from iWeb to Rapidweaver and need to update my RSS feed so that I don't loose any of my subscribers.
Would anyone know the steps to take for this process?

I am aware of the need to rebuild the podcasting webpages from scratch in RW--I actually look forward to it as RW offers much more flexibility and creativity in page layout than iWeb does.
Could you elaborate on the steps to do this?: "When you create the podcast in it just specify the URL and name for the rss file to be the same as before: then it will simply replace the previous file and iTunes will see it as before."
Do I need to somehow name the RW pages with the same naming scheme as the old iWeb pages? I hope not as the iWeb url was so convoluted and I want to streamline it.
Judging by what I'm reading on the forums, i'm afraid I'll just need to rebuild and resubmit a new url. This is by far the easiest. It just pains me to start my subscriptions from scratch -- I have two years of subscribers built up, and no way to communicate with them a new url for the podcast!
Thanks for your time and insights!

• Switching podcast RSS feed

I recently got my podcast approved and put onto the iTunes store. It's currently being hosted on Podomatic, but I've uploaded the exact same content to Soundcloud and been approved for an RSS feed there. My Podomatic RSS feed is currently what's being used on iTunes, but is there any way I can switch over to my Soundcloud RSS feed without resubmitting and recreating the podcast all over again? It seems that Soundcloud would be a better hosting site because it's free, the interface is aesthetically better, and I think it has more storage, whereas with Podomatic I believe I only get 500 mb of storage total, which means I'd have to archive old episodes elsewhere once I get beyond that limit. This is what I get for being impatient I guess. Please let me know if you have any guidance!

In order to move to a different feed you have to add a special tag to the original feed and leave it in place for a couple of weeks. You may well find you can't do this with Podomatic (who will have no interest in helping you to leave them) in which case you will have to email Support at [email protected] and ask them to move it for you. The full details of all this are here:

• Unknown Error (-4) when trying to submit podcast RSS feed

I have been having this problem for two days now. I'm trying to submit the RSS feed://www.toikids.com/physicians/peds.xml to the store and I get the following error message every time.
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-4). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
I get his message when using http:// and feed://. I have validated the feed and have tested it in iTunes and in my browser, so I know its not the feed. I haven't found anything about "unknown error -4" either. Any suggestions?
I'm using iTunes 8.1.1 (10) if that matters.

Seems like Apple is at least aware of the issue. I got this response from Apple Support:
+I'm sorry this error message is persisting. Apparently there is an issue with submitting podcasts today and Apple is working hard to correct it.+
+I recommend waiting until tomorrow to try submitting again and replying to this email by Tuesday if the error happens again.+
+I know this is an inconvenience and for that I sincerely apologize. I appreciate your patience with this, Jeff!+

• Error when trying to submit podcast RSS feed.

I was just trying to publish my podcast and submit the rss feed to itunes. To do this i simply went to file>submit podcast to itunes. I did this using iWeb, but for some reason every time I do this it gives me an error message. I cant figure out what im doing wrong, I thought iWeb was supposed to make a working RSS feed automatically. Also, after hitting publish to .Mac, I went to .mac and clicked my site, but the site is not at all updated, instead it is the old site. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

If you did a "Publish All to .Mac" and remembered to empty your browser cache, it would seem that you are not connected to .Mac.
This would also explain your failure to upload the RSS feed.
However, I notice that somebody else is having this problem...

• HT1819 Can I update podcast RSS feed without deleting current location?

I have changed where my podcast are hosted so I am trying to figure what I need to do on iTunes. Can the RSS feed be updated or do I have to start a brand new podcast?

If you don't have access to the old feed to add the redirection tag to it you can't redirect iTunes yourself. Email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to do it for you - give them the Store URL and the URLs of both feeds.

• Old podcast rss feed no longer exists, do I need to creat a new podcast show for new rss feed?

Hi,
I have an established podcast (Tommy Unit Live) but the RSS feed is no longer valid. Do I need to request a new show (set up a new show) to update with the currect RSS feed?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
Tom Meehan

Do you mean that the old feed no longer exists and you don't have access to the server to replace it? In that case your best hope is to email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to transfer the iTunes Store's attention to the new feed: give them the ID number or the URL of the Store page, and the URL of the new feed - check this beforehand by subscribing manually in iTunes (from the 'Advanced' menu) so that you are sure you are dealing with a working feed.
They've just done this for someone else so hopefully they will do it for you: the alternative is to start again from scratch and submit the new feed as a completely new podcast (you would need to change the title slightly or you will be told it has already been submitted).

• Podcasting RSS Feed Generators/Creators

Hello all,
Long story short - I have been a user of The Podcast RSS Buddy for quite sometime now. A new version came out a year+ ago and I just now updated to it. I purchased the key, something went wrong. Now I can't get ahold of the creator Chris Tolley
That said, I am looking for more podcast managers like the one I am using now... one that allows multiple podcast management, creates full itunes compatible feeds , allows for importing of old feeds and is RSS 2.0. Since Tolley is unreachable, I need to find another program. I run about 8 podcasts (with more to come) for my site www.getsportsradio.com
Which do you guys recommend?
Thanks in advance!
Nick

Okay, so first of all I don't find anything for windows as far as a podcast maker type of software that does the rss feed service stuff so that I don't have to type it out long hand.
But let's start from squre 1. The feed.
if you go to http://dufffreezone.com/podcasts/ you'll see all the mp3 files.
Now some of these files have been blog posted--in which the direct link to the mp3 is posted in the blog post--the little player shows up and then I make a download link. I ftp the original mp3 files to the above link. All shows up and works fine in the post itself.
Now when I get my rss feed, and in this case, had one made over at feedburner, then why does NOT the mp3 files appear in the rss feed? They're w/ in the blog post and all over the page from the link above! When I look at the feed, it has the blog posts in it, then why does the mp3 not show up w/in the blog post via the feed?
I have to get the stuff to show up first in the feed before I can get to the <> part.
I've never had rss feed probs and I figure it is something dumb that I've done, cause I can't seem to find any info on fixing this prob.
What is going on? If my blog posts are showing up in the feed, then why is the mp3 file not--even on the download link beneath the player, which in the href code Specifically shows the mp3 file--then why doesn't it show up in the feed.
I also don't get why this is becoming such a big deal and whom can I outsource to do it for me cause I''ve got other things to deal with--this shouldn't be that difficult.
Thanks for your reply...

• Podcast RSS feed rejected after months of smooth sailing

iTunes recently started rejecting our weekly RSS podcast feed: http://www.texastribune.org/feeds/podcasts/the-tribcast/ .
I checked it with a feed validator, and it gets a clean bill of health. I can manually locate our podcasts by entering the URL, but the podcast no longer appears in the store nor is it discoverable through search.
Thanks for your help.

It does seem to have been removed. I can't be of much help here - obviously I don't have access to the Store staff's decision process. There appears to be no serious technical problem with the feed, nor does it seem to contain any of the subject matter which will get you removed - unacceptable sexual contant, strong language when the 'explicit' tag is not set to 'yes', or copyright violation - though I've not listened to any of it: is there strong language?
The only thing I can suggest is that you email them at podcasts 'at' apple.com, though I have no idea whether you are likely to get any sort of helpful response.

• Podcast RSS Feed

I own the "Webkinz Webcast" that has been on iTunes for the past month. I produce the podcast in Garageband and then share it with iWeb and then it goes to .mac I updated to iLife 08 and I am now re-submitting the podcasts to try and get them to work, as they don't after the update. I don't know if the feed is now bad or what the issues are, however when I try to submit to iTunes, I get "We require that feeds include a title". I did not change anything, and this has played just fine in the past. Any help would be appreciated. Do I need to change something in Garageband?

Hi,
As long as your RDF file is validated and checked for
correctness, there should not be any problem with its size.

• I am unable to submit my RSS feed into iTunes

Podcast RSS feed not being accepted by iTunes
I have registered my main podcast RSS feed in iTunes successfully. I want to migrate this RSS feed from feedburner to PowerPress, but I want to prototype it first before I move the real feed. To that end, I created another Blogger blog site and Feedburner rss feed that has the same settings as my main feed. The feed is using SmartCast to configure the RSS feed for iTunes compatibility. I cannot get the test feed to load into iTunes though. I get this error message:
Podcast cover art must be at least 1400x1400 pixel JPG or PNG, in RGB color space, and hosted on a server that allows HTTP head requests.
I had the artist give me a 1400x1400 pixel version of the logo in RGB color space (I’m not sure how to verify this). Here is a link to the logo, if anyone can tell by looking at the picture or site what is wrong that needs to be fixed. http://s24.postimg.org/lvuuf7v91/ARP_logo_i_Tunes.jpg
I have read as many forum posts as I can to try and solve this issue and nothing has worked so far. Can someone tell me what is wrong with my image or RSS feed that is causing iTunes to reject the feed?
Here is the RSS feed:

• Gmail in mac book pro frozen on podcast rss download, Gmail in mac book pro frozen on podcast rss download affecting entire computer

Okay, so I am NOT the most tech-savvy girl so please excuse me if I'm sounding really stupid... I have a mac book pro (2 years old). I like to download podcasts on my iphone and I guess they then sync via iTunes cos they appear on my mac book pro as well. BUT recently one pattern making podcast (I'm a student fashion designer), has shown up in my gmail menu under RSS feeds, I'm not sure how long it's been there but I clicked on it a few days ago and since then my gmail is totally stuffed! When I say stuffed I mean: the whole of my gmail on MBP is frozen with the spinning beach ball of death on the open patternmaking podcast/RSS feed window I tried to open- although there is no images or anything it's just frozen before it downloaded anything. I can force quit and then use the rest of my MBP fairly ok, although it does seem slower- and I didn't have time to deal with it as I've had to write a 5000 word essay to be handed in tomorrow so I just completed that & now I can deal with it since that's all done. But if I open mail back up its still frozen on that RSS podcast thing I opened and while it's opened my ENTIRE computer is affected- it just lags (HUGELY) as in safari won't load properly, when I try to open file/edit/tools or anything on the top bar menu it takes like 10 minutes to pop down n then 5 minutes to acknowledge my command. I've just turned my MBP off right now to write this on my iphone I turned it off by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
I desperately need this mac for uni as I study online and the $11000 programs I bought only work on mac.(as in the software that enables you to do the course is sent to you based on your type of computer) I'm terrified. Can someone please help me? In laymans terms lol I don't care if I lose ALL my emails as I have them on my iPad & iPhones so no biggy ill do whatever I have to just to fix this issue.
Thank you so much in advance;)
Olivia Preston :)

Hi Olivia,
Go to Safari menu > Preferences > RSS and uncheck all the boxes, Check for updates: Never, Mark articles as read: After clicking them, Remove articles: after one day, and Remove now. See if that does the trick.

• The enclosure in RSS feed doesn't work for Itune

I subscribed to my podcast rss feed to ITune, which was valid and had been tested successfully with other aggregator such as Ipodder, however, it doesn't work for ITune. When I hit "get" button next to my podcast name, I always get "!" sign in front of the name, and when I clicked it, I got error message "There was a problem downloading 'XXXXX'. The network connection could not be made".
I'm not sure if this problem resulted from the "rewrite" function I used on my podcasting server in order to track the downloading. Here is how it works: When a mp3 file is requested, my web server will redirect the request to another asp.net program to do something and then redirect to the real mp3 file for downloading. Can it be problem in Itune? But I can use this enclosure url to download this mp3, and also the Ipodder works file with this rss feed.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply.
However, according to the iTune specs as following,
Tracking Usage
Please note that iTunes does not provide usage statistics. Some podcasters have created mechanisms for tracking the number of times that each episode has been downloaded. iTunes does not provide support in how to track downloads, but the following notes may be helpful:
* 302s will be followed to a depth of 5 redirects and will not update the feed URL in the directory.
* The URL before the GET-style form values (before the first ?) must end in a media file extension (e.g. mp3). To work around this, the feed provider can alter their URL from this:
http://www.podcaster.com/load.php?f=&Wipeout.php
to this:
http://www.podcaster.com/load.mp3?f=&Wipeout.mp3
Notice how it says load.mp3 instead of load.php. It should be possible to accomplish this via various means, such as web server rewrites. iTunes looks at the extension of the path part of the url, i.e. the part before the”?”.
The http request redirection is allowed as long as the appropriate file extension such as ".mp3" is used.
By the way, I tested it with "no redirection" version, which worked fine.
