Hello,
I recently got my ipod nano (yesterday) and I downloaded some free podcasts. I added them to my ipod and I try to play them but all I hear is the sound and there is no movement, just a still image. How can I fix this?

my ipod does the same:( but in the description it says that it should play podcast. I´m confused:(

  • Song Doesn't Play On iPod, But Will Play In Itunes

    Hello
So, i ripped my copy of Disturbed's Asylum to my PC in mp3, the song plays fine in iTunes, but when transferred to my iPod, it will not play if I either select it or pass it on a playlist. The album artwork and information displays fine, but it will just stop at 0 time for a couple seconds, then advance to the next song. Also, the play count increases everytime it runs over the song, so it is capable of writing data to the file.
I've re-added the song to iTunes and restored my iPod, but neither have worked. Any idea why this happens with just the one song?

    *Skipping songs*
The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
You may like to try scanning the files with MP3 Validator which can find & fix some internal MP3 errors.
Some users have also suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information can be a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I have found files for which these solutions don't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original files back onto the iPod.

The above relates to songs which have always been a problem. If songs have played fine on the iPod before but don't any longer (and they haven't been updated) then one possible cause is some form of hard drive corruption.
*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

  • Podcasts show up on iPod but not in iTunes

My (old) podcasts show up on my iPod, but they don't appear in iTunes. I can't delete those podcasts and I really want to throw them away. Could somebody help me?!

Are you positive these podcasts are configured to sync to your iPod Touch? Have you double checked the configuration for podcasts from under the iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes?
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab.  Locate the Podcasts tab along the top and select it. Here you can choose how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.

  • Why won't my songs play on Ipod but will on Computer?

My songs on my computer are playing perfectly fine. I download all the songs to my 4th generation Ipod touch, and they are on the ipod but whenever I select them they do not play, the songs just skip over most of them and then play the songs that will play.  My sister has a older verison of an Ipod touch and hers will play the songs. On the computer under my ipod's playlists the songs pop up with the "i" bubble. What can i do to fix this?! I've tried re downloading the songs muiltiple times. It doesn't seem to work.

i got the same problem, happened with "Now its on" and currently with "My Wife, My *****, My Girl", both by Tech N9NE. i ended up just getting now its on from limewire. i think the song for download might be faulty becuase i even deleted the song from my computer and bought it again, but to no avail. as well, i took the song off my ipod and put it on again, which also didn't work. I suggest just finding it on the internet in some other way

  • Movies play on iPods but download on iPhone?

I'm building a website for mobile users in which I've placed several m4v movie files. My page has links directly to the movie files, not links to another page with the movie on it. I designed it this way on purpose, so that users don't have to click on the link and then click again on the "play" button. I wanted it to automatically play when selected.
iPod users (using Safari) can click on the link and it automatically plays the movie. When iPhone users click on the link, they get an error message that "Safari cannot download this file". When I go to the site from my laptop, it downloads the movie. It doesn't play it.

another person asked this question a long time ago, and the result was to change something in the .htaccess file and do some other tweaks. if you do a search through the forums, you should be able to find that post. hope that helps.

  • Podcast wont play on iPod touch?

I publish our church podcast here http://web.me.com/timfischer1/Site_2/Podcast/Podcast.html
I bought a touch the other day and went here to see how well it worked. But to my surprise all I get on my touch is the QuicTime Q with a question mark over it. WHY? Don't tell me an APPLE iPod doesn't work with QuickTime

1 an audio podcast made in GarageBand. Then sent to iWeb then posted on a .me site.
    2 Safari.
What good would it do to post a site with a podcast made with all Apple equipment, all Apple software, hosted by Apple and not be able to play it on an Apple iPod Touch?
If it can not be played on the ipod touch using Safari, why doesn't Apple tell us how to get it to people using NOT a real FULL version of Safari that can't play Apples own QuickTime? That is crazy! I can view the site and play the podcast on my computer, on my laptop, even on my friends windows computers. But my APPLE iPod Touch can't play it!

  • Purchased Music Not Playing on iPod but on iTunes

Before I start, I have had this problem before (6 months ago) and it resolved itself through some unknown fix (with the help of a Apple Genius Bar who had no idea what worked). The purchased songs - mine and others who use my computer - play fine in iTunes, and play from the iPod on a PowerBook, and plays purchased music loaded from a PowerBook - but will NOT play purchased songs when sync'd to my Windows laptop (I know. . .). I have restored, deauthorized, reauthorized, restored on PowerBook and then again on Window laptop. . . Still NO music. As it does for everyone else, it plays burned music. . . I am stumped. I am open to anything short of incantations. It does seem to have started soon after iTunes 7 was loaded. . .

I gave up with the glitch and got another iPod. . .

  • Songs not playing on iPod but they do on iTunes

I recently bought a iPod and have been transfering songs that were already on my computer to my iPod. I went to play one album and it just skipped through all the tracks and wouldn't play them. On other albums only some of the songs have been put on iPod/iTunes and I can't work out why. The albums that I'm trying to put on are not from iTunes store but some of them work and others don't.
Any ideas how to get round this problem?

I have experienced a similar problem and was able to isolate the situation to a group of MP3 format songs that I imported into my iTunes library from CD several years ago. They were stored as MP3 format rather than the M4A format that is currently used.
The problem seems to have developed recently on iPod classic with the last release of firmware.
Several suggestions were tried to fix the problem (which did not work for me). Things tried that did NOT work - reset ID3 tags, MP3 validator, turning off artwork, the back light trick, etc.
I finally reripped the music into my iTunes library and resynched my iPod classics and life is wonderful again on the iPod classic.

  • Videos on same Apple ID play on iPod but not iPad?

Hi, i just recently purchased the iPad Air and logged it with the same Apple ID that all my other devices use. After a day or so i logged out of my apple id and into another one that i use for work. The email addresses are very similar along with the passwords so I did  not notice until after I had downloaded something and it gave me the 90 day warning.
Both my iPod and iPad are now back logged into the same account but my iPod will play videos I downloaded in the videos app but my iPad won't. when I try to download them it just gives me the 90 day warning even though I am back to the original account and can download other things fine.
I'm not sure what to do as I don't want to wait 90 days to be able to watch the videos.
    thanks
IPad Air running iOS 7.1.2 and IPod touch 5 running iOS 7.1.2

Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days.

  • Mp3 plays on iPod but not iPad?!

I have a collection of .mp3 files loaded into iTunes as mediaKind: audiobook.
They play just fine with my iPod Touch.
They hang (with black screen) my iPad (played via the iPod app).
Why???? Any fix known for this?
P.S. I converted one track from mp3 to Apple Lossless format and that DOES play on the iPad. I would convert all the tracks to that format except that they take 3 times as much space (and like I said, they DO play on the iPod Touch).

I've the same problem with some of my audiobooks...I can listen to them on my iPod, and though these audiobooks show up on my iPAD, I can't listen to them. The iPAD screen just goes black and nothing happens. I read from another post and David M Brewer suggested these steps:
    Try this;
    Open iTunes--->select the audiobook--->Command+i (get info)--->Option Tab--->Music Kind--->Pick Audiobook from the drop down menu--->Ok.
But that still doesn't work. I also tried picking just "Book" from the drop down menu, still no luck.
It'd be really nice if I can listen to all my audiobooks on any one of the devices I have so I don't have to lug both the iPOD and iPAD around. Any other suggestions to fix this?

  • My podcasts are on my iPod but they aren't shown in the 'Podcasts' area but when i go onto 'Videos' they're there. How do I get them to be shown in 'podcasts' as well?

On my iPod Touch, I have around 100 podcasts. When I go on 'videos' they're listed under podcasts; but when I go onto 'Music', then onto 'More', then 'Podcasts', my podcasts aren't shown there. How do I get them to be shown on there??

I can't find Podcasts or Videos on my ITunes library list on my computer? I know I have Podcasts on my IPhone but if I want to delete it in ITunes, how do I locate them? (This is not a reply but adding to the question above which was not answered)

    Hello Christopher,
There are 2 ways to go about this.  One is to use the manual method which is a little different depending on whether or not you use a Mac or a PC or you can opt to use a 3rd party software that can help you accomplish the task as well.  See this older thread for a list of possible software you could use.

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.

  • No Sounds play in browser

I have a fairly simple movie with a movie clip containing an
MP3 (music and voice over). The sound plays fine when I test movie
in Flash player, but it does not play when I publish the movie in a
    browser. Any hints?
This problem seems to have started when I upgraded all my
browsers to FP9. Is there any reason this would effect playing the
    sounds?

That'll be tedious, going through each affected .caf file and converting it, and then when Apple addresses the issue, I suppose I'll want to switch them back, but at least I know what's going on.
Yeah, it's unfortunate. I don't think the update is far off.
I'm fairly new to LE7, GB, and even MacIntoshes in general -- is this "par for the course"? I've never hesitated to install upgraded software when there are features I want, but this experience is making me more shy about it.
Well, in general, it hasn't been the case w/ Apple. However, they have left some folks hanging w/ this Logic update delay.
