Podcast Subscription no longer updates

I've downloaded the latest version of iTunes (so let's get that off the table.) Before I did that my one Podcast subscription was not updating - I was not getting the pop up window upon opening the application and it didn't work when I manually tried to update from the podcast section in iTunes.
Now that I've updated, I unsubscribed and re-subscribed to the podcast and it still is just an empty shell.
What's wrong? I can listen to the podcast from the iTunes store, but I just can't seem to get it onto my desktop, let alone my iPod. All of the other functionality of iTunes and my iPod seems to be intact.
Any input is appreciated!!

Hi catspaw!
Have you reset your Subscriptions Preferences, in My Settings?
Change them once and Save, Then change them back to the options you prefer, and Save again.

  • Podcast subscriptions no longer download

Since a few days ago, my subscribed video podcasts like "Ellen in a minute" and "Meet the Press" have stopped downloading.
Now matter how many times I try to "get" the missing episodes the download never starts and then times out.
The store otherwise seems to be operating normally.
Is there a problem with podcasts over the last few days?
    Thanks,

They finally started coming through again a few hours ago. I suspect a Store issue.

  • Podcasts will no longer download

I updated to the new ios and now podcasts will no longer update via wireless. they will download to about 99% then say there's an error. I'm having way more problems with everything now that i updated.  it's very frusterating. does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening? i have enough free space for the downloads.

Restart your iPad, then try it. Do a restart by holding the HOME and ON/OFF buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears.
I always have iTunes download all of the podcasts in the background, and when I sync my iPad, it grabs all of the new podcasts

  • ITunes stopps updating podcast subscriptions

    Hello!
I use iTunes for a long time now to subscribe and archive podcasts, even though mostly I listen to them on my iPhone these days.
So far everything worked fine, but a few weeks ago I noticed, that iTunes stopped the automatic update of some podcasts. These subscriptions were marked with a little exclamation mark. When I clicked that I got the following message meaning in English "iTunes stopped the automatic update of this podcast, because you didn't listen to an episode recently. Do you wish to continue automatic update of this podcast?".
Since I normaly listen to podcasts these day on my iPhone and use iTunes mainly to archive some podcasts I like (some of them go back almost 8 years now on my hard drive) it can happen that I don't listen to episodes on my computer for weeks. But I still wish iTunes to update and download the latest episodes of some subscriptions in the background without me having to think about it.
Now since I noticed this behaviour after about two months it caused me some trouble since I missed downloading some episodes that are not anymore in the feeds :-(
Anyway, is there a way to stopp iTunes from doing that? Of course I answered the above question with "Yes" but now a few weeks later I noticed iTunes again stopping to update one of the podcasts.
Maybe this behaviour was added with the best intentions but it is very annoying if it can't be turned off. So far I didn't find an option for that in the settings, is there one in iTunes for that?
    Thanks and greetings!

iTunes will stop updating a podcast subscription if you have more than five episodes downloaded but not listened to, as detailed in this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23353
    which states:
You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes. You may get the following message:
iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
You can click Yes to continue downloading additional episodes. Or you can just listen to any part of any episode and a new episode will download at the next update.
There is an AppleScript available which will apparently deal with this (I've not tried it):

After the most recent update to 11.1, my podcasts will no longer sync.   I've clicking on the manual sync button, but nothing happens.  Any suggestions for me?

I figured out the problem.  You must click on settings under each Podcast and re-subscribe.

  • Podcasts are no longer being automatically updated after hibernation mode

    Heeello to you all!
I noticed that after going to hibernation mode (the motherboards suspend to disk functionality) the schedule for my podcast updates is messed up. For example now is Feb 22nd 2007, 21.14 and my iTunes says that it wants to search for new episodes on August 13th 2006, 23:57. This means that the podcasts are not being updated automatically after hibernation. How to reproduce this bug in iTunes:
    1.) Start iTunes
2.) Set up: Search for new episodes hourly in Podcasts settings.
    3.) Close the settings window.
    4.) Leave iTunes running.
5.) Go to hibernation mode (This mode may need to be activated in the system settings: System Settings -> Engergy Options) by klicking Start -> Turn off Computer -> holding shift while clicking on Standby ("Standby" changes to "Hibernate")
6.) Turn the computer back on and have a look in the iTunes settings: In my case you find senseless time and date for the next podcast-update.
Is anyone able to reproduce this error?
And is Apple please able to fix this if this is truly a bug?
    Regards,

P.S.: The english terminology differs most probably from the reality because I happen to use a german language system.

  • After iCloud backup restore, how can I prevent Podcasts from constantly trying (and failing) to download podcast episodes no longer in iTunes store?

I recently turned my iPhone in to a Genius bar and had it repaired under the iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program. Congruent to that repair, I had to do a factory reset (contetn and settings). Once I got it back, I restored from iCloud backup. When I re-opened the podcats app, it began to redownload all old episodes I had on the iPhone before.
Of these many podcasts, 5 episodes were from 2 defunct podcasts no longer on the iTunes store. It gets download errors on these episodes. I can get it to stop retrying (and failing). I have tried canceling the downloads. I have tried deleting the episodes (and the podcasts). I have tried deleting them then canceling the downloads. I have tried marking them as played and canceling the downloads. I cannot get them to be purged from the catalog and not try to redownload.
Outside of someone with access to the iCloud backend who can remove the associations, I don't know if anyone here can help me. But I am open to suggestions.
    Thanks.
(also perhaps of relevance, the period between the wipe and restore included the release of the 2.0 app )

    Hello DonaldGuy,
It sounds like you have some podcast subscriptions that are constantly trying to download but they are not in the iTunes Store anymore prompting an error message. You can use the edit button in the susbcriptions list to delete the subscribed podcasts in question, to prevent the error messages from happening:
    Podcasts at a glance
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iphbaeb5b5cb
Then I would backup to iCloud to update the most current iCloud backup to reflect this:
    Back up to iCloud
If you're using iCloud, it can automatically back up your data if you've chosen this option. You can verify your iCloud backup and make sure that it's up to date by following these steps:
Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
Turn on iCloud Backup if it's off.
    Tap Back Up Now.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Podcast subscriptions on iPhone

I subscribe to a number of podcasts through iTunes and invariably listen on my iPhone. Since I can sync the phone with only one of my computers, I often find myself on the road without the ability to access the iTunes data linked to the phone. This problem will be exacerbated when my new iPad arrives and I have even less reason to lug around a MacBook Pro.
I realise I can manually download podcasts to the iPhone and do use this feature in emergency. But I believe it would be a big enhancement to allow subscription-based downloads in the iPhone OS. I presume the main reason this was not done was to conserve data traffic, particularly on 3G networks. One solution would be to download headers for subscribed podcasts so they could be downloaded as required.
Anyone have any views on this?

i agree, this would be a huge improvement. especally since i listen to 12+ podcasts, some of which update with two minute daily clips, some with hour long weekly audios. some that update randomly. it would be helpful if they instituted a similar means like they have with the app stores update section, where you can view all the latest episodes from subscriptions instead of having to go to your podcast section, click the cast, then click get new episodes for each one.
too bad that that's the type of thing that'll be for a big firmware update.

  • Are podcast subscriptions connected to the computer or the account?

Until recently, my wife and I have been sharing a computer and an iTunes account with two separate iPhones. A couple of weeks ago I bought a MacBook. We both have different podcasts we listen to on a regular basis. Her podcasts are being downloaded to my MacBook and vice versa. If I unsubscribe and delete her podcasts from my MacBook, will they still update on the her computer? I really don't want stuff I don't listen to cluttering up my iTunes, but I don't want to stop her from getting her updates either.
    Thanks.

As far as I know Podcast subscriptions are connected to the library. I assume you copied the entire library to the new MacBook. You should be able to unsubscribe from any podcasts you no longer want without affecting the other library, even it you both use the one account for purchases.

  • How do I move my iTunes podcast subscriptions to a new computer?

I have a Dell computer running Windows XP.
I just purchased an Inspiron laptop running Vista and want to move my podcast subscriptions (I have a lot of them) to the new installation of iTunes on the laptop.
I cannot find any instructions on how to do this.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks. - Love my iPhone!

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your second computer is to network it with the first one and copy your iTunes folder across. Start by consolidating your library. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. On a PC the default location is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\ (or C:\Username\Music\ in Vista). You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the first computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the second computer.
If you have and iPod, some iPods can be used as an external drive and you can use them to move your iTunes (this option isn't available with the iPod Touch): How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Podcast subscriptions duplicated

After doing an Itunes update my library was erased. I had a backup of the files and I added them back to the library. Now my my podcast subscription is split in 3. The information is in one folder in the itunes media folder, but it is not reading that way in the library. How do I consolidate them under one heading?
Also, I am missing some album artwork, which is not showing up even after I "get artwork". I had this artwork before.

It may be because you are using the same Apple ID in the two iTunes libraries, to sign in to the iTunes Store.
Open iTunes Preferences Store tab.  There is a setting (checkbox) that says Sync podcast subscriptions and settings.  If that setting is enabled, see if unchecking it makes a difference regarding this problem.

  • Podcast subscriptions vanished

I have a bunch of podcast subscriptions in itunes on my pc. I tried to sync them to my iphone for the first time and because I had very few on my iphone somehow it deleted all my subscriptions that wasn't on my iphone from itunes and now I don't know how to get them all back. I've tried restoring an old libary file my from itunes directory but that still isn't bringing them all back. Any suggestions on how to restore all my subscriptions? Also how do I keep the iphone from overriding itunes. Thanks

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.
