Podcasting .... fatcow and iWeb

Okay... So I've had my website hosted through fatcow for a long while. I develop with iWeb and then upload it directly (from iWeb) to fatcow. The website is www.chardonpolkaband.com
I recently added a podcast to my webpage and for the life of me-- I cannot get the rss feed to work and the subscribe feature up and running. Viewers are able to listen to individual podcasts from my site... and can click subsribe, but once in itunes... no podcast episodes actually show up. Furthermore, when I try to "publish podcast" via iweb, it gives me some sort of rss feed not found 404 error.
I am really not sure what I am doing wrong....
Any help would be appreciated.

Your feed is at http://www.chardonpolkaband.com/Radio_Podcast/rss.xml
However the link is to http://www.chardonpolkaband.com/CPB_Web_Site/Radio_Podcast/rss.xml because when using the FTP facility in iWeb it would expect the entire site to be in a folder called 'CPB_Web_Site', as explained by Wyodor above.
FatCow say
Go to FileManager
Look for the World icon in the directory structure in the left pane
Hover over the icon, and it should say DocumentRoot. Publish files to this directory, or its subdirectories.
Note: the actual directory name could be root, or public_html, or htdocs
You should check what the root directory is called and enter that as the Path. You will need to delete all your site's files on the server or they will remain there and confuse the issue.
If you then republish this should place the site files correctly. The access URL to your home page will remain the same but when you go there the URL which will show will be
http://www.chardonpolkaband.com/CPB_Web_Site/Welcome.html
and of course all the other pages will also show this directory (folder). The automatically generated link to the rss file will then be correct.
The alternative would be to remove that link (if iWeb allows this) and make one manually, linking to the actual URL for the feed I gave above.

  • IWeb Podcast - Drag and Drop Audio and Picture Files

I have been using iWeb the last few days to create a web site that includes some podcasts. I currently have three podcasts as a part of the site. I have been able to get two of the podcasts to work correctly but the third one, no matter how many times I recreate it seems to be where the difficulty lies.
The podcast page gives me the opportunity to drag and drop an audio file and a picture file onto the page. As best I can tell, when I drop the audio file onto the page, things seem to be fine. When I drop the picture file onto the object, the audio clip seems to disappear. I have tried dropping the picture file first with basically the same results.
A couple of more things. I created the original podcast file in GB3. I have found I can't import the podcasting file directly form GB because I end up with a very large file (>60GB) for the audio portion. So, I share the audio file to disk as an M4a file. When I add the audio to the podcast page in iWeb, I drag the audio file from Finder onto the object. The picture I have dropped onto the podcast page both from the Media Browser and from Finder. The results are the same.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Dave

I think you're asking the question in the wrong forum. From what you posted, there's nothing wrong with GB, you should post in the iWeb forum where you're more likely to get useful and accurate answers about, well, iWeb.

  • Help- Changing iweb podcasting site and adding feedburner

I set up a podcast with iweb then realized I wanted to change a few things.
    1. I want to change the website name in iweb from "Site 2" to "Awake Podcast"
When I do this it changes the feed, and I can't access the old feed.
    2. I wanted to change the feed to feedburner so I can track the podcast.
How do I do this? What order? Which feed to I adjust? What code do I need to add?
I'm new at this. Any help would be appreciated.
    Justin

In order to change iTunes to a different feed (and as you've found changing the site name in iWeb changes the feed URL by changing its name) you have to add a special tag to the feed:
    <itunes:new-feed-url>URL OF YOUR NEW FEED</itunes:new-feed-url>
This can't be done within iWeb which doesn't allow you to tamper with the feed. Download the existing feed from the server, Open it in TextEdit *IN PLAIN TEXT MODE* not Rich Text. Add the tag just below the 'channel' tag near the top of the feed (on a new line). The URL must be full and include the http://
Upload the feed manually to the server, replacing the existing feed.
Now change the name of the podcast site in iWeb and do a complete republish. Make sure that it hasn't over-written or removed the modified feed: you may need to upload it again, and you may need to recreate the folder it was originally in. Wait for iTunes to recognize the new feed - it shouldn't take long.
If you want to involve Feedburner you will have to submit the new version of the feed to Feedburner. Mke sure Feedburner have uploaded their version of the feed. Then you will have to download the new iWeb feed and modify it by adding the tag with the Feedburner URL. Once you have done this *DO NOT* do anything in iWeb until you are sure that iTunes has transferred to the Feedburner feed. Then you can add new episodes in the usual way.

  • Can Someone Help Please?  Podcast and iWeb.

I have my podcast on my iWeb site and hosted with .Mac. I want to submit my podcast to other podcasting sites, but have some questions.
    1) When I try submitting my rss feed url, clicking it takes me to iTunes even though it's not part of the url. Not everyone uses iTunes to play podcast, how can I set this up, and what should I be submitting. Also, some podcast sites ask for my current episode url. How do I find this?
    2) iWeb doesn't allow for downloading of podcast directly from the site (at least I can't figure out how). How can I submit to other podcast sites and have people download my podcast without having to go to iTunes?
Are these solveable things, or do I have to wait for iWeb 2.0 and hope it addresses these issues?
Thanks so much for anyone's help with this.

1.) Your current episode URL is the URL for your podcast episode. web.mac.com/YourUserName/YourFolder/YourPodcastEpisode.mp3 or similar. The URL should end with the extention of your podcast format (mp3, m4v, mov, etc)
2.) A podcast is an XML file. By clicking on any valid XML file you can view updated episodes outside of iTunes. You can bookmark the xml file to "subscribe"

  • Podcasting with GarageBand and iWeb

    Hey there,
I'm new to podcasting, I love it, but am having some problems. I record my podcast in GarageBand, then put it up on my iWeb site, and it plays fine from the site, but it's been 4 days now and they still aren't downloading in iTunes when I hit subscribe. They show up in the podcast section, but they dont download. How long does it usually take for iTunes to get these working. I've already received an email from them saying that my show is approved.
Also I'm wondering how I edit the Podcast info and picture. Right now the description of the show is just what is written on my site, but it is more of a site description, not a good itunes description. The individual podcast episodes use the post from iWeb as their description, which is fine, but I'd like to change the description for the over all show. Also I would like to change the picture but haven't been able to find any of this anywhere.
    Any help would be appreciated.
The site where my podcast is can be found here
Also I've never used this forum before, so I don't know if you email me back or what, but just in case my email is [email protected]
    MacBook 1.83   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No they aren't the problem. I previously had the sound files on the site, then went through a phase and totally re did the site but kept all the same names, and the files still worked no problem.
I'm not sure what broken images your talking about. I've looked at the site on many different computers, mac and pc and the site functions fine.

  • Error Showing in Podcast RSS and iTunes shows a "!" when it loads

I have created eight episodes so far for our podcast series. All podcast episodes were created in Garageband and uploaded to iWeb. In iWeb I published the webpages to our podcas server. The pages show beautifully and the podcasts work well.
BUT if someone tries to subscribe to the podcasts, an error appears. I went into the server and found "podcast.html" and had to correct the URL. When I publish to the folder on the server, iWeb creates a folder as the name of the podcast and then places all the documents into that folder. The problem lies in that the xhtml and the rss will not work if that folder is in the URL. If I manually remove the folder, it works quite well. IF I create a new episode and upload it to iWeb, when iWeb publishes to the folder on the server, it overrides the manually corrected URL and places the folder back in the URL. It took me 15 minutes to correct the document (podcast.html) the last time I added an episode.
Therefore, one cannot subscribe to the podcasts via the website nor via iTunes.
    The webiste is http://podcast.sparcc.org/Welcome.html
When a new episode is created it the URL looks like this: http://podcast.sparcc.org/The_Sanctuary/Welcome.html
There are three others working with me on this project and we are getting very frustrated.

  • Podcast Episode and Chapter Artwork Lost in Export

I have been trying and trying to export my podcast to disk, but when I do, only the audio content comes through. The episode artwork and the chapter artwork do not appear. When I drag-and-drop the episode into iWeb, "Drag Image Here" appears where the artwork used to be. This is the first time this has happened I have not changed a thing about how I produce my podcasts.
While troubleshooting, I also tried to export to iWeb. Then the audio content and episode artwork appeared, but none of the chapter artworks did.
Please help! My listeners expect my podcasts every Sunday morning. Thank you!
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm also having a problem with this, although for me it's compounded slightly by the fact that I'm not even sure where I would view the podcast track.
The podcast track does not show up when I play the file from my disk, nor when I subscribe to the podcast via iTunes from my server. It also doesn't show when viewing the .m4a file in either Quicktime Player or in a web browser (via the QT plugin), nor in the Finder preview when I Get Info... (but I can hear the audio portion in all cases).
Is there any way to check if the podcast track is actually contained in the exported file? It's a 30 second .m4a file and weighs in at 616kb.
My export settings in Garageband are for Video Podcast, I have publish podcast checked, my podcast track is visible and there is no video track. My podcast track is 7 pictures, and I've set named and assigned urls to all of them, and selected Episode artwork and named and written a description for the episode.
I've tried a couple things like hiding and re-hiding the podcast track and such, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas on this? It's starting to make me annoyed =)

  • Limited number of podcasts due to iWeb?

I'm happily podcasting via Garageband and iWeb but only 5 podcasts are being shown in itunes. My archive podcasts are being ignored and only the iweb podcasts on the main webpage (5) are made available.
Can this be fixed because I would like all my podcasts to be visible in iTunes
    Charlie

Try going into the Inspector RSS tab and adjusting the number of episodes to be shown there. I think the limit is 50? You can also adjust the amount of text excerpt there as well.
This should allow as many episodes as you want to always be included in the RSS.xml generated for your podcast and made available to iTunes.

  • Video Podcast Trouble Using iWeb

    Hey,
I am having some problems with my video podcast and I was wondering if anyone could help me out any.
I am using the new iLife and iWeb, and have not been able to find much support on those programs. I listed my first video podcast without much problem at all.
My only problem was that the picture was incorrect in the store and when I tried to update the picture, it resulted in nothing but black. I followed all of the picture guidlines, so I dont know why its not showing up.
Secondly, my podcast was working fine for a couple of days, now it looks like there is trouble with the link. So, I dont know what to do anymore. I have resubmitted my podcast to Apple, so maybe that will help. The link to my podcast is:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=120891660&s=143 441
Any help would be so appreciated!

Awesome. I would really appreciate the help.
I used the White Podcast template in IWeb.
I did think I resolved some of the issues with my link...or so I hope anyway. It turns out the my original link in iTunes store went dead. I think it was because there was another podcast listed under the same name. So I changed the name a little and resubmitted it to iTunes. It went back up today. The new link is:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=120891660&s=143 441
The photo is still not working however...
    Thanks again for your help!

  • No success by abo my podcast done with iWeb

    He,
I run a podcast, produced with iWeb and saved on disc.
At my apple screen was all ok.
but when I put this to my servers (I tried two different), I
    also earn this:
    http://freinet.paed.com/news/Podcast2
Im unable to abo my podcast: iTunes answers:
Dies ist möglicherweise keine gültige podcast-url.
    iWeb 1.1.2
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=202188836
    What is wrong?
    Please help me
    Jürgen

Your RSS feed does not validate:
    http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Ffreinet.paed.com%2Fnews%2FPo dcast2%2Fpodfreinet%2FPodcast%2Frss.xml
The first problem is that you are claiming that it's UTF-8 when it's not.
I believe that is because you've typed or pasted in some Unicode characters that require UTF-16.
    Or possibly even UTF-32...
It's also possible that you copy/pasted from MS Word or some other kind of document.
    Don't do that!
It will have all kinds of non-standard characters in there for formatting that have NO meaning outside of MS Word.
See the double ?? in this page:
    http://freinet.paed.com/news/Podcast2/podfreinet/Podcast/rss.xml
    Those are your problem characters.
Get those to "work" in Firefox, then check the feedvalidator link above until you "validate"
You may have to live with not-quite-right characters for the umlauts and whatnot until you can work out how to get UTF-16 if that's what it takes.

  • Podcast Producer and Internet Explorer

I've configured Podcast Producer on 10.6.8, and it is working fine - items are processed from the Capture software through to PcP2 and Xgrid, and are then uploaded to a Wiki.
The issue is with clients using Internet Explorer (any version) and their ability to play audio files uploaded from Capture or through the web interface of the wiki. Videos work fine, but whatever code is used to upload just audio files to the wiki cannot be interpreted by IE. I know that 10.6.8 was meant to address some of these issues, but I am just not sure how to proceed.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
    Cheers
    Kieran

Not sure if this will fix your problem, but I was having the same problem until I looked at the specs for XGrid, it has to run on an Intel Mac. This is where you can get the specs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306737
Here is what is in the doc:
    Podcast Capture requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iSight camera (built-in or external) or FireWire DV camcorder
    Podcast Producer Server requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering requirements
Any Intel-based Macintosh Server or Intel-based desktop Mac (a Mac Pro, for example)
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
At least 1 GB of memory (RAM) plus 512 MB of additional RAM per processor core
At least 50 GB of available disk space
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Quartz Extreme-enabled video chipset
Note: Quartz Extreme support can be verified in the Graphics section of Apple System Profiler.
Note: If a system is providing multiple Podcast services (for example, Podcast Producer and Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering), the system needs to meet both requirements.

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

  • How do I delete the podcasts App and go back to using videos app?

After deleteing the new Apple Podcasts App, I have restarted my iPhone 4, re-synced numerous times and I see podcasts syncing, but I can't get them to appear in the videos app. I also can't get podcasts to appear in the music app either.
Lets face it, the podcast app *****, and I want to go back to the regular videos App, but it seems like my phone won't let me.
    How can I fix this?

I had the same problem. The Podcast app *****. So I deleted it and wth that went away all the podcasts.
    The solution is:
    1. Eject and reconnect the iPhone. Ejecting from iTunes is recommended.
    2. In iTunes, uncheck "Sync Podcast" and then sync the phone.
    3. Perform step 1 again
    4. Now check "Sync Podcasts" and sync the phone and you should have your podcasts in the Music app.

  • Ive lost iphotots and iweb after hard drive failed help

Hi my hard drive failed yesterday and I took it to the apple store who confirmed it had failed.  They advised I should purchase a new one, provided me the specs and fit it myself.  I've now clearly done that because I'm writing this
However I've reloaded everything back on but i've noticed my iphoto and iweb are missing!!!  I really need these apps, I cant remember how I put them on the machine, be it disc or download but clearly ive paid for these app.
Please please help me I really need these apps as I have current workload dependant on having these apps

iPhoto is included with the iLife apps and can be downloaded from the Mac App store or if your Mac is slightly older and came with an earlier version of OS X then Mt Lion then those apps are on the second system install discs that came with your system (Which I suspect it is an older Mac as iWeb is no longer included in the iLife suit of programs).
So dig out your original system discs and use the one marked Applications to reinstall those apps. Then update them from software update.
If for some reason they won't install on Mt Lion then you will need to wipe the drive, Re-Install the original OS X version and the iLife apps then upgrade back to Mt Lion.
EDIT, NOTE: To the OP and DS store.
iWEB Still works on ML as long as it is updated to the newest version. If the Applications disc is new enough it will even install on Mt Lion.

  • Aperture 2.1.3 and iWeb 2009

    Hi there,
Can I actually use Aperture and iWeb together to publish to MobileMe? If so, what settings do I need to make to allow them to work together? Previously I have been using iPhoto 2009 to send to iWeb but I can't find a way for Aperture to work with iWeb which I would prefer.
Thanks for any advice. It is much appreciated.
    Lynn

Aperture photos should (can) show up in the media browser while you're using iWeb. Just make sure the Aperture Preferences, Previews, "Share previews with iLife and iWork" is enabled. Note that only the preview quality is shared, so make sure you balance speed/storage and quality of your previews in the settings below for your use. A preview quality of 5-medium and 1/2-size are plenty for my use.
