Podcasts 2.1 - 24 hour auto delete

In the latest version of itunes following the podcasts upgrade is it possible to have the old Allow Auto Delete for each podcast on each refresh rather than have to wait the 24 hours set in the default settings?
Not sure how this was a step forward?

Thank you Colin - this worked

  • Why am I having to constantly have to remark podcasts to allow auto delete?

    One of the features I have enjoyed over time is the ability to mark a podcast to "Allow Auto Delete" of played podcasts. Lately (did it start with iTunes 9.x?) I am having to continually remark podcasts to allow auto delete. I have no idea why marking it once shouldn't do it. Does the fact that it has deleted everything -- there are no podcasts which have not been listened to -- somehow reset something and not retain the previous setting?
    The scenario, which seems to happen the most often, is when there may be multiple episodes. I am not using the default settings, but it is set it to download the most recent episode(s) and only keep unplayed episodes. Yet when I do a refresh many of these played episodes do not get deleted. I then have to right click on the podcast and indicate yet again, "Allow Auto Delete".
    Has anyone else noticed this? Is there something I'm missing? Is this a bug?
    -Bill

    I've noticed this too.
    I have two ipods (one Nano 5G and one 160GB Classic). Since limited space is more of an issue on my Nano, I tend to keep some of the video-only podcasts set up to automatically sync only to the Classic and not on the Nano. I have around 40 podcasts in my list that automatically update, and about 4 of those are video ones that I exclude from the sync list on my Nano. Everything except for those 4 podcasts is set to allow auto delete.
    From time to time I find myself needing to re-select the auto delete setting on some of the audio podcasts. Very frustrating - one would hope these settings would "stick" and syncing could really be what it should be - a one-click operation.

  • Podcasts no longer "Auto Delete"

    Hello,
    Wasn't sure which forum was best for this but just wanted to voice my frustration with Itunes 7.7 and the fact that my podcasts no longer "Auto-Delete" after being played. I checked my settings for each podcast and they are still set to "AUto-Delete". If anyone has any suggestions, please respond.
    Thanks!

    The auto-delete functionality in iTunes refers to deleting the podcasts from your computer. The control for removing played podcasts from the device is on the podcasts tab available when the device is attached.
    Whether or not podcasts are auto-deleted from you computer is based on the podcasts settings in iTunes. The settings button is on the bottom of the podcasts page (next to the undelete button). In the popup window under "Settings for:", select "Podcast Defaults" to change to default for all podcasts, or a specific podcast that you want to behave differently from the default settings.
    When choosing "Podcast Defaults", the two selections at the bottom of the window will be unlocked. When choosing any single podcast, uncheck the "Use Defaults" checkbox to unlock these fields.
    Changing the selection "When new episodes are available:" will affect how many (zero, one, or all) podcasts to download.
    Changing the selection "Episodes to keep:" will affect which, if any, podcasts are auto-deleted.
    As to removing podcasts from the device, this changed for me with the most recent update to the iPod software. Podcasts are removed from the iPhone if they have been played, but they remain on the iPod until they have been deleted from iTunes. I have not experienced a case where a podcast persisted on the device after it was deleted from the computer. I am hopeful that Apple will fix this with the next iPod software update.

  • Podcasts won't auto delete

    Have all my subscribed podcasts set to "keep all unplayed episodes"
    Once I have finished listening to an episode, it doesn't automatically delete, even when the next episode is downloaded
    I am getting a backlog of episodes all stored on my iPhone, with the only way to delete them being to do it manually, however when I do that they are removed from the list with no way of redownloading if I want to listen to them again.
    Anyone else having this problem?

    Having exactly the same problem. I've posted this on a few Apple related forums already - although admittedly not this one - but no answers yet. I get the feeling that other people are getting this to work so it's not a Podcast app bug.
    I'm deleting listened to podcasts manually by swiping right on the podcast once I've listened to it.
    I don't understand what I might not be doing - I have the podcast subscribed to and auto-delete is switched on and set to keep unplayed episodes only.
    I've tried leaving some for a while in case there's a 'schedule' of some sort for when these listened-to podcasts get deleted but nothing has happened so far..and that's after eight weeks!

  • Why do podcasts no longer auto-delete in new v10.6.3.25 on Dell laptop Win7 despite menu settings

    Why do podcasts no longer auto-delete in new v10.6.3.25 on Dell laptop Win7 despite menu settings?
    tks

    Found the error and posted a blog post here: http://www.red-abstract.com/blog/2009/11/19/itunes-90-and-auto-deleting-podcasts .html
    The issue is that Apple put this behind another layer of configuration on the podcasts screen. Go to that screen and click "Settings." You will see there that you can configure the podcasts individually or set the defaults to remove played episodes. Only after setting this will iTunes honor to auto-delete.

  • Podcasts won't auto delete during update

    I want my podcasts to automatically delete after I've listened to them. I have the ipod set on auto update songs and podcasts and to "keep all unplayed episodes." The podcasts just keep stacking up until I have to delete the whole library and start over.
    I built a playlist for all played podcasts (play count greater than zero) but it won't let me even manually delete from the playlist.
    How do I do this.
    Thanks / Kozmo

  • Old podcasts were auto deleted from hard drive

    I download a handful of podcasts once a week and keep a regular backlog on hand to listen to when traveling. This week, all of my archived podcast files -- looks like anything older than one week -- are gone. They were still listed in iTunes, but the files were deleted from my hard drive. They aren't even in my recycle bin, so I know I didn't delete them.
    I assume this happened during my latest iTunes update (yeah, I know, this probably covered in the encyclopedic user agreement), but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this and has a solution. I did spot the Allow/Do Not Auto Delete option, which I'll now use every time.
    Thanks.

    However I have a couple of grayed out folders with a question mark and "inval..." that are non-functional and nothing happens when I choose "remove".
    Try rebooting your computer.  In previous instances, that sometimes caused these phantom folders to disappear from Lightroom's folder pane.

    We have our fax program running 24-7 and autoprinting every received fax. When the printers are sutdown outside office hours, xserve deletes the jobs without holding them until the printers become available again.
    Is there a trick to keep the jobs (auto) on hold and be printed as described above?

  • How to : auto-delete podcasts from itunes

    How can i make itunes to auto-delete a podcast once i have watched it either within itunes or watched it on the iphone? The file is no longer on the iphone when it has been watched but still is in itunes.I have checked podcast settings and set them too "only save not played podcasts"(free translated) for that particular podcast, but they never seem to be deleted from the mac's itunes library and i always have to remove them manually....what am i missing here?

    I was also having this issue. I decided to just stop using iTunes for podcasting. For me the way iTunes handles podcasts isn't exactly how I would like it. There are a few things I don't like about it and the bug you mentioned is one of the them. Hopefully we will see improvements on the podcasting feature in the next iTunes release.

  • Auto-Deleting Podcasts

    I can't find where I can send a bug report to Apple, as 'feedback' for iTunes is just music requests (hint: if I wanted to request music, I should be clicking something called 'Request Music').
    The issue I'm hoping iTunes development staff will see here is that if one is listening to a podcast that is last in the list, and iTunes refreshes podcasts, the podcast playing will be deleted. This happens because of an oversight in the design that doesn't anticipate users listening to podcasts non-sequentially, and sometime downloading older podcasts in the list. The more egrigious error here is that the application is destroying data while it is in use, so the rule should be not to auto-delete a podcast if it is being played.

  • Podcasts are auto deleting

    Hello, My podcasts are auto deleting but I have selected 'Do not auto delete' and keep all in the settings, I'm getting fedup with having to download them again

    I found a solution at least working for me on my MacMini which is not synced with my iPhone.
    As iTunes on my MacMini does not update every day I sometime manually add missed episodes by pressing the little "Get" button. It turns out that this manual action resets the "auto-delete" function for this podcast. Thus the auto-delete for a particular podcast is only remembered without any manual "interference".

  • Auto-delete old podcasts in iTunes 12

    In iTunes 12, how can I set things up so that it will auto-delete old podcasts

    Thanks for the input! I right clicked one of the disappearing episodes, but there was no "Save Episode" on the drop down menu. There was "Remove From Saved Episodes" option.

  • Auto delete everything but specified folder contents from txt file

    Hey Guys,
    I am brand new to using Powershell (like 48 hours into using it for work) and I've run into a bit of an issue.  I've only taken a programming concept classes so some of the stuff makes sense to me but a lot of it is new.  Basically I've made a
    script that automatically deletes any files over X amount of days.  My next step is to have an exceptions text that will have a list of folders that should not have its contents deleted.  This is what I have so far.
    $Date= Get-Date
    $Days = "7"
    $Folder = "C:\publicftp\users"
    $LastWrite = $Now.AddDays(-$Days)
    #----- getting DO NOT DELETE listing from TXT ----#
    $Exceptions = Get-Content "c:\exclude.txt"
    $Files = Get-Childitem $Folder -Recurse -Exclude "c:\exclude.txt" | Where {$_.LastWriteTime -le "$LastWrite"}
    foreach ($File in $Files)
        if ($File -ne $NULL)
            Remove-Item $File.FullName -Exclude $Exceptions | out-null
    I've seen a lot of threads that show how to auto delete contents or how to exclude specific file types but I haven't seen an answer to my particular problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

    Hi Rabbot,
    The script below may be also helpful for you, and uses the -whatif parameter in Remove-Item cmdlet, which doesn’t actually remove anything but simply tells you what would happen if you did call Remove-Item.
    $Exceptions = @()
    Get-Content "c:\exclude.txt" | foreach{
    $Exceptions += $_} #store the exception file to array
    $Folder = "C:\publicftp\users"
    $LastWrite = (get-date).adddays(-7) #over 7 days.
    $Files = Get-Childitem $Folder -Recurse | Where {$_.LastWriteTime -le $LastWrite} #filter files which over 7 days.
    Foreach ($file in $files){
    if ($Exceptions -notcontains $file.fullname){ #if the file is not listed in the exception array.
    Remove-Item $File.FullName -whatif} #use -whatif to test
    I hope this helps.

  • Please fix the auto-delete bug

    * I've set ALL my podcasts to "Do Not Auto-Delete"
    * My podcast prefs are check "Manually" / "download most recent" / keep "all episodes"
    * I listen to a portion of a podcast on my ipod (NOT all of it)
    * I updated my subscriptions
    * I sync the iPod
    * The podcast I listened to (a small part of) is deleted from my ipod.
    PLEASE fix this.

    Argh! Another iTunes update and still no fix.

  • How do i turn off the auto delete when played feature in new update?

    how do I turn off the auto delete after playing an item in latest update?

    After the disaster of iTunes 11.1 that deleted nearly all my archived podcasts (recovered from backup thankfullly) I was shocked, but not altogether surprised, to see that the option to delete played episodes has been enabled/re-enabled by default.
    From the lower right of the Podcasts window click Settings then, if needed, click Defaults, then turn Delete Played Episodes to Off.
    Why set the destructive option as the default?
    I have many episodes that I want to keep that are no longer available at their feed so the last thing I want is any automatic delete process to be enabled.
