Podcasts And Streamed Podcasts

Has anyone else experienced this?
I have the Apple TV (obviously), and have it synced to my iMac, and have it set to stream from my wife's MAC mini.
When I am watching a Podcast, and, it plays all the way through, I have it set to automatically delete. sometimes (not all of the time), as soon as the Podcast deletes, it automatically jumps to my wife's streamed podcasts. I then have to go to "podcasts>my podcasts" to see my list again. It is as if I hit the "Shared Podcasts" button to see hers. But, it happens as soon as it deletes one of mine (hope I am explaining this clearly enough)
This happened about 2 or 3 times so far since the new update.
Anyone else seeing this?

Thank you for your response Winston.
To answer your question I did another factory reset, update and re-sync followed by some more testing.
Today I got these results with an almost-2 hour podcast synced to the device:
15min: 5 seconds
30min: 11 seconds
60min: 22 seconds
90min: 32 seconds
115min: 41 seconds
So, it looks like I overstated the delay but these are still significant, especially when you are trying to skip forward or find a place in the podcast.
As it happens, this time when I changed the device into streaming mode there were no delays. This isn't very convenient as the computer needs to be running the whole time but it's better than the alternative.
I'd still like to use the device synced so if anyone has further ideas or comments they would be appreciated.

  • One podcast and possible podcast series

I created some podcasts.. 3 main titles... one for my work, blog and home videos. I would like to create series within those categories.. Can I do that?

yes.. 2 different ways depending on how you want them seen on iTunes. If you don't really want them all appearing together on iTunes, create a new site and a podcast page for each of them and submit them separately. You accomplish this by creating a new user account in system preferences/accounts. Then sign in with the new user account, creat the new site with iWeb, and submit it to iTunes.
If you want them all on the same page in iTunes, then give them similar names, like echWork, echBlog, echHome... you get the idea. Put them all on the same page and submit to iTunes.
    Hope this helps

  • How to delete downloaded podcast and reset podcast to not downloaded??

    Hi all,
Hope this is a simple question/answer. I've got several podcasts with lots and lots of downloaded episodes which I am no longer interested in keeping on my Powerbook. I can click on the episode I want to delete and delete the file once I use the "Show in Finder" option. However, the file status within the episode listing suggests the file has already been downloaded.
Is there a way to reset the status of the deleted file(s) so it indicates it needs to be deleted? I tried Refresh podcast after deleting the file, but that didn't work.
    Thanks!!
    Robert

I went through the same scenario and the absolutely easiest way is to empty all the podcasts you want to remove and then just hit the "unsubscribe" button and then re-subscribe to it. It will re-list all the available podcasts you haven't downloaded.

  • Podcast background streaming no longer works after upgrade to iOS4

Behavior of my iphone, streaming (click the title after searching for Dan Patrick podcast in itunes app)a podcast with old OS -
(Don't strip out my asterisks as bullet points, silly web editor) 1- When a podcast starts streaming, you may click the lock button and audio continues
2 - You may also click home button and access mail, sms, maps, and notes without the audio being interrupted
3 - If you access another app that stops the audio playback, re-selecting the itunes app will take immediately you back to the quicktime-looking player (about %80 of the time), although paused position in the podcast may be lost. Most of the time, double-clicking the home button and pressing play will restart the podcast where it was (if more than 5 minutes hasn't passed).
    With iOS 4 -
1 - If you start to stream a podcast, and click the lock button, playback stops
2 - If you click the home button, playback stops
3 - If you receive a text message, and attempt to reply, playback stops
4 - If you do any of the above, or access an app that is expected to stop playback, returning to the podcast with the itunes app no longer works. Half of the time you are returned to the search results, forced to click the title again (although remembering position is much improved), but many times you are taken back to the generic landing page, and made to search for your podcast to stream again. Double-clicking home and pressing play does not start the podcast like it should, instead it picks a random ipod song.
Please tell me this is a malfunction, and not an "enhancement"?

  • How to *stream* podcasts on iPad with iOS6.1?

I've just updated to iOS6.1 and am wanting to use my iPad as my music center.  It sits on my desk right next to me all day, connected over Wifi, so I have no concerns about data usage.
I simply want to be able to stream a podcast.  Note that I do not want to DOWNLOAD these podcasts to my iPad in advance, or sync them via iTunes, etc.  I simply want to hit play on them and have them start streaming, just like if I hit play on them from iTunes on my computer.
I can't seem to figure out if this is even possible.  In the process, I have deleted the Podcasts app.  This has brought podcast support back in the Music app again, but ONLY for my shared library on my iMac.  This makes running Music on the iPad pretty pointless since I still have to have iTunes running on the iMac as well.
How can I get Music to stream  podcasts without having to sync & download them to the device first?  This seems like a pretty basic thing since it's fundamentally the way podcasts work in iTunes.
I did try syncing a playlist full of podcasts to the iPad, thinking that maybe then the iPad would stream those podcasts... but the playlist comes into the iPad completely empty, not a song in it.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Um, where did I say iOS was useless?  Any particular reason you're attributing a quote to me that I never said?  Also I did not make any conclusions, I asked two questions.  It may behoove you to learn the difference.  Since you're going to be snarky, I will in my response as well.
    Specifically, I asked:
"Are iOS devices useless as podcast streamers unless..."
To further clarify since you don't seem to follow the logic here:
If an iOS device can not stream a podcast that was added via iTunes, then
If the user (that would be me) does not wish to have to find their podcasts all over again within the Podcast app, then
iOS devices are useless as podcast streamers unless you find the podcast from within the iOS device itself.
This is pretty basic logic.  I am in no way suggesting that iOS is useless, or that iOS devices themselves are useless.  My statement was quite specific as to the exact conditions under which they appear to be useless, and so far nobody has shown this logic to be incorrect.  I welcome showing me that the logic is incorrect by explaining how exactly I can stream the podcasts that are already in my iTunes playlists from my iPad.
I will take a look at Stitcher radio and see if it can play my existing podcasts in iTunes.  Adding podcasts to the Podcast page in iTunes is no help because that does exactly what I want to avoid - copying the actual Podcast media to the device.  This would exceed the capacity of the iPad (64G model) by at least 10x.

  • Using and syncing Podcast app in iOS8

    Hi,
I just finished upgrading to iOS8 on my iphone and now my podcasts aren't syncing.  In the past, with iOS7 and before, I would use itunes on my computer to download podcasts I wanted to listen to.  I would then sync them to my iphone manually as they tended to be fairly large in size and I didnt want to use data to listen to them and I don't have reliable access to wifi all the time.  This worked like a charm and I would often sync several hours onto my iphone so I could listen to it later where ever I wanted to.  However, since the iOS8 update, suddenly this no longer works.  itunes tries to sync and it seems to register that it is going to do it by indicating how much space will be left free on my phone, but when I tell it to sync, nothing actually happens and the podcasts do not get transferred over to my phone for later listening like it used to.  I don't know if there is a switch that got turned off with the update or if it just doesnt do this anymore.  I am hoping some one out there can tell me how to resolve this.
    Thanks very much.
    K

I tested this here but it works fine for me. I went to http://www.echo.msk.ru/programs/personalno/ using Chrome, tapped the link to the feed at the top right, opened it with Podcast . It has 21 episodes and i could download (not stream) the first 3 without issues. Have you tested this both on WiFi and mobile data?

  • Rode podcaster and runtime error.

hello, i hope someone can help me with this problem. i purchased adobe auditon 3.0 because i do podcasting and i needed a program that would support 2 usb microphones. well i have no problem getting one of my microphones to record (an MXL usb .006) but when i plug in my rode podcaster and try to use it (and this is with the MXL unplugged, so i havent even tried to use multiple usb mics yet) it gives me a error that reads "microsoft visual C++ runtime library" as the header, then it reads "runtime error! program:...rogram files (x86)\adobe\adobe audition3.0\audition.exe
this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. please contact the application 's support team for more information."
the laptop is running windows vista, the 64 bit version.
so can anyone give me an idea what to do next?

    >and i have no clue what you mean when you say use the wdm usb driver rather then the asio ones, so any advice there would be appreciated.
Well, this is the simplest explanation I can manage that explains the important principles:
WDM drivers are the ones that Microsoft intend to work with the OS (Windows Driver Model), and they allow for the use of multiple spund devices - wherever and however they are attached. But, these drivers have inevitably got a higher latency (delay introduced in processing signals), because they sit nearer to the top of the processing heirarchy in the OS. ASIO gets around the latency problem by short-cutting most of the OS, and allows software using its engine to talk more or less directly to your sound device - singular. To use any more than a singular device would require the arbitration that the OS would have to provide, thus destroying the point of doing this in the first place.
What ASIO4ALL does is to take the ASIO-based stream from Audition, or any other software using the same engine, and convert that back to a WDM-based internal protocol. It is bi-directional, so signals coming in (like from your USB mics) can be converted from their WDM format into ASIO for Audition, as well. As a consequence, ASIO4ALL can redirect a multi-channel stream to different devices, and can also take multiple input streams from them as well, combining them into a concurrent ASIO stream. There are several penalties to be paid though - the increased latency is one, and also you could
potentially run into sync problems, but not with the application you have in mind, I think.
There is one important bit in the ASIO4ALL FAQ that you should note, but a comment on it is needed:
    >After some initial troubles with earlier revisions, the driver now appears to work just fine with numerous USB devices. one thing to not do, I mean: not ever! is to check the DMA box with USB devices. If you do not need all the additional software gizmos like EAX, EQ, Fake3D-Whatever... it is recommended that you _not_ install the drivers shipped with your USB audio interface. Windows has a built-in generic USB audio driver that works with most devices. Thus, if you want to have honest, no-nonsense, low-latency audio playback/recording with your USB audio interface - by all means: stick with the Windows driver! This is especially true for consumer grade stuff, where you can be assured that the drivers shipped with it are most likely 'consumer grade' as well.
One of the problems with USB mics is that you may well need to install at least the control applet for it, otherwise it
may not be usable sensibly at all. But, USB mics vary - so what you would need to do in any given situation, I can't comment on. In the past though, it's been pretty apparent that without the control applet, at least some of them have no sensible gain control or routing. But I would emphasise that this is very much a YMMV situation.
    >i freely admit i need to do more research and reading on the software, but i have been told by people using multiple usb mics that this is what they used, or at least earlier versions of adobe audition.
That would be true. The earlier version referred to would probably be 1.5, which was the last version to use the built-in WDM system for recording, although all earlier versions could do this too, at least in principle. I believe, though, that there were other difficulties recording from USB sources with earlier versions, so all bets are off unless you've actually tried what you want to do with a specific hardware/software combination and actually
    know it works.

  • Streaming Podcast Interupt 8530

    Hi Again,
I was using my 8530 to stream a podcast in mp3 format.
It was working great until and email and then a twitter notification etc. event happened.
Everytime the streaming podcast would start at the very beginning.
I ended up downloading it to listen to it later.
However I don't see a way to make a  setting so that those notifications won't interupt the stream.
    Or is there a way??
    Thanks
    Robert

    Tiki,
iTunes does not stream. When you load a link to iTunes, your material has to be accessible to the internet. So when someone chooses to download the podcast, they are directed to your server and downloads from there. Podcasts by nature are not streaming videos.
Consider creating a streaming video and using streaming server service for customers to access. Your server will stream the material for them.
Hope this clears up streaming video vs podcast.

  • Missing music, podcasts, and apps.

I opened itunes this morning and now all my music, podcasts, and apps are gone. Loading playlists doesn't help and neither did re-installing. Anyone have a clue what happened? I tried importing everything available and related to itunes in my music and itunes folders. My ipod shuffle wouldn't even sync its contents over.
    Thanks.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • ITunes App crashes when streaming podcasts

    Hi,
When I stream podcasts from the iTunes app, sometimes it works fine, but most of the time, iTunes will either close all together, or close out of the stream. I will sometimes have to click to start the stream 4 or 5 times before it will actually play. It has been this way with every OS I have had installed on my phone.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I should clarify--I'm not trying to stream, per se, but rather my entire music collection is on a NAS. In the past I've added all this music to my itunes library so I can sync with iphone, etc. It's sometimes slow, mostly because of the ridiculous "gapless playback" check, but usable. Itunes 10 is completely worthless--couldn't even get the library loaded without an eternal spinning ball. If anyone else has had this issue and has updated to 10.01 successfully, please let me know. I don't want to go through rebuilding my library again if the update doesn't work.

  • Want to listen to podcasts as streamed. Not download them.

    Hi gang,
When I subscribe to a podcast it seems the only way I can listen to episodes is if they are first downloaded to my computer. Can't find a way to play them immediately by just having them streamed.
When I search for a podcast in the iTunes store, I can select individual podcasts and they will play via a stream. That is the feature I am looking for with the podcasts I subscribe to.
BTW, I have been using GreatNews Rss Reader for quite some time. It allows streaming of subscribed podcasts and all the episodes that show in those subscriptions.
I've done a search but cannot find information specific on "only streaming" subscribed podcasts. Any help would be appreciated . . .
    Thanks,
    Peter

That is exactly correct. iTunes does not stream anything beyond the radio stations.

There is no information. Unless the podcast author offers it from their site, you are out of luck.

  • What do you use to listen to streams / podcasts / last.fm ?

I'm looking for a way to manage my stream, podcast and last.fm music listening, preferably through a single  ncurses or a GTK based interface. I'm still using BMPx which is a buggy, no longer maintained resource hog but has some features that I really like such as:
    - uncluttered intuitive interface
    - Last.fm tag cloud, similar artists, album art, quickly look up artist info on the web
    - easy way for searching and filtering shoutcast and icecast streams
    What do you use?

    Great guestion mate!
I use smartphone LG Spirit 4G for Netflix and Spotify on the go with Sennheiser CX2.00G earphones. Great sound, really stunning bass and vocals on these. Pleased everytime to hear every detail outside home no matter music or series/movies. 4.7" screen.
At home I will try to use for music Pioneer SMA1 again, as finally I can remote it with new phone without problems. Cheap phone was freezing on app all the time. For series/movies I have Philips 42PFL5008T 42" Smart-TV. I remote Netflix and YouTube app now using my phone - as it never freezes now. Old was unable to remote well, as it was cheap.
On laptop I do everything else. Since laptop is Ubuntu, Netflix will not work and Spotify app is no-needed and hard to install, web player low quality. Laptop is for forums, surfing, blogging etc.

  • Setup and Moving Podcast content to Shuffle 3G

I've used both the Shuffle PODCAST screen(checked SYNC PODCASTS and newest 3 for 3 different streams/casts), and my pc iTunes library screen (unchecked everything but the 9 podcasts I wanted) to put podcasts on my new 2GB Shuffle-- only 3 will transfer(and they're small, I still have 1.87GB of space left). I can hear the podcast music fine for what does sync.
I even tried creating a new folder and putting the podcasts into it, then sync'ing the folder, but it still didn't work.
Why won't other podcasts move over?
What can I do to get them to transfer?
I've done the 5 R's, and have even rebooted my pc.

Select one and do a Get Info on it.
    The
following audio file formats are supported by iPod shuffle. These include formats for
    audiobooks and podcasts:
    Â AAC (M4A, M4B, M4P) (up to 320 kbps)
    Â Apple Lossless (a high-quality compressed format)
    Â MP3 (up to 320 kbps)
Â MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
    Â WAV
    Â AA (audible.com spoken word, formats 2, 3, and 4)

  • So 1.2 can't stream podcasts?

With the older version, I could just stream my podcasts without downloading them, by just by tapping on the title.
I listen to "Stuff you should know", and it's it was great just having all their episodes showing up right on the main screen under the podcast, and by just tapping, it started playing! Now i have to click "show older versions", and then downloading each episode i want to listen to!
    Am I missing something?
