Podcasts and track markers

I record a podcast (music) typically using Sound Studio Pro. I usually then go ahead and "track" the podcast in Sound Studio Pro (markers), and those markers show up when I play the resulting AIFF audio file in Quicktime.
I want to then use GarageBand to add track names along with artwork.
Is there a way to create separations on the podcast track using the track markers? It's annoying to have to go back and re-track the audio every time.

If they're playing one episode then stopping, you have the shuffle songs/albums feature turned on. I know it sounds daft - but if shuffle is off, Podcasts will play one after another. However, they'll play in reverse order - newest to oldest! At least, that's what most of us seem to find.
Note though, if you turn off the shuffle while playing a Podcast it will have no effect - they'll still play one at a time. You would need to start a song, then go back to the Podcast. The same happens (in reverse) if you turn on shuffle while playing a Podcast.
I know it's weird, but try it. As soon as you start the first of several episodes you'll know what it's going to do by looking at the X of X in the display. 1 of 1 means it'll play one at a time and 1 of 6 (for example) will play them all.
I've yet to understand the logic behind the iPod's handling of Podcasts, and each model of iPod I use (5th gen, Classic and Touch) does it differently!
The 5th gen will only play one at a time which is useful since they're listed in reverse chronological order.
The Classic also lists them in reverse chronolgical order but has the option once you know the trick/secret method to play them one after the other, or not if you choose. However, because they're listed in reverse date order, they play in reverse date order, which is not very helpful so I choose the play one then stop option.
The iPod Touch (32GB) will only play Podcasts one after another without automatically stopping but they are listed and therefore play in correct chronological order. (Well - I haven't found a method for switching this off yet anyway.) Best of all, you can see how long an episode is before starting it playing and it will indicate a part-heard episode and list the remaining time of it as well.
So although you may think that Apple haven't got it quiet right with Podcasts yet (as I do), they are getting better. And of course, the iPod is the best Podcast handler I've seen so far.

  • Chapter markers missing in podcasts and audio books

With my new 5th gen iPod the chapter markers are gone from  both podcasts and audio books. Anyone able too tell me how you get them back?

Do the podcasts on your iPod also appear under the podcasts menu?
Unfortunately, it is perfectly normal for them to appear under artist and album on your iPod. The tags on the podcasts identify an artist and an album and they get added to those lists. Not sure why this is not reflected in iTunes.

  • Aif with track markers converting to mp3 -mp4 or aac question

I think I know the answer but, I have aif file of audio made in Peak with track markers. If I convert the aif to an mp3 I can play it in I tunes or my Ipod but the track markers do not copy. Would I have to convert the mp3 to an mp4 or is it an aac file that Garageband makes? Come to think of it - it would just be like making a podcast as I would add the track markers in the chapter maker of GB3. I ask this to make sure there is no easier way since I originally made the aifs for cd's so I can select track to track with the markers there but since the original source time was 90 minutes I could only get 70 minutes on a cd but I can get the full 90 minutes in an mp3 / aac format. Is this the way to go?

The latest version of iTunes has moved the location of the settings for this. (If you have an older version the principle is the same, it's done from the Importing pane of Preferences.)
Open iTunes Preferences: select 'General'. On the line 'When you insert a CD' click 'Import Settings'.
In the pane which opens, set 'Import using' to 'MP3 encoder'. Set 'Setting' to 'Custom'; in the pane which opens you can choose the bitrate, stereo/mono, the quality etc.
Close the preferences panes. Get your recording into iTunes. Select it in the library; from the 'Advanced' menu choose 'Create MP3 version'. This will appear in the library and you can delete the AIFF version if required (make sure to send it to the Trash, which appears as an option, or it will remain in the library folder).

  • Problem with podcasts and iTunes 6.0.1.3

    Hi everybody!
First of all, please excuse my poor English: I'm French. I'll try to do my best to write as well as I can.
I have some difficulties with podcasts and iTunes 6.0.1.3.
When I "sign up" (FR: "s'abonner") to some podcasts, they are not updated in my iPod nano indeed (and some others are), although iTunes says: "Your iPod is updated" (FR: "Votre iPod est à jour").
I have no way to put these podcasts episodes in my iPod...
    Could you help me please?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi iFriend,
try this, it worked for me:
    1) first of all, uninstall QuickTime and older versions of iTunes from your PC, using the "remove" button in the "install applications" tool that you find in the windows control panel.
    2) reboot the system
    3) turn off the windows firewall application; go into the windows control panel, double click on windows firewall and disable the firewall option
    4) if you have one, disable your Anti-Virus application; i mean its real-time protection.
    5) probably it's not necessary, but for being sure... download and launch the standalone installer of QuickTime (latest version)
    6) download and launch the iTunes + QuickTime installer from this web address
    7) as an option, i suggest you to download and install also iTunes Art Importer. It's a nice application, that allows you to import from the internet directly into iTunes the album ArtWorks of the selected tracks in iTunes. I installed it, and it works very well with iTunes 6.
    8) after all the installations, remember to enable both firewall and anti-virus previously disabled!
as i said, probably the 5th passage is not necessary, but i did it and it worked!
if you have any questions or feedbacks, just relpy to this topic. stay iTuned!
    bye, bye,
    Marco

  • How can I have podcasts and music in the same playlist in iOS7?

How can I create an iTunes playlist that contains both music and podcasts and export that playlist to my iPhone? This was once possible. If you download the "Podcast" app, podcasts can still be added  to iTunes playlist which you can listen to on your Mac. But when you sync that playlist to iPhone, it will omit all of the podcasts.
Previously, the workaround was not to download the Pocast app. That way, podcasts remained in iTunes where they could still exist in with music in the same playlist. But as of iOS7, you are required to install the "Podcasts" to be able listen to podcast at all. No more workaround.
Why does this matter? Some people, like me want to drive or exercise while listening to a mix of music and podcasts. Apple's "improvements" have restricted the way that I am able to use iTunes.
I can only think of these solutions:
Convert the podcast into AAC or other format. Then iTunes sees it as "music" and it will stay in the playlist. Cons: 1. Burdensome. 2. Removes the resume feature from the podcast.
Use a different iPhone app. Spotify lets you drag any track (even podcasts) into a playlist and they stay there when synced to the Spotify iPhone app. Cons: 1. Requires Spotify premium service to listen to playlists on iPhone. 2. The resume feature is removed. 3. Very difficult to forward and rewind. 4. Some podcasts are rejected by the Spotify playlist, although its rare. 5. After being imported, the tracked need to be synced to the phone via WiFi (as with all tracks that are not offered via Spotify.)
I am using the Spotify solution but am interested to know if there is an Apple solution. Or maybe I am the only one that wants to mix podcasts with music.

  • Submitted Podcast, but tracks are out of order

I recently submitted a Podcast and it was approved by Apple, but the page brings up the tracks in a random order. In my RSS feed, the tracks are listed in the correct sequence, however most have identical creation dates.
Does iTunes sort the tracks by Creation Date? If so, I have to change these in my RSS file, do I need to resubmit or will iTunes automatically point to the updated feed link?
    Thanks!!

I updated my RSS feed link and changed the creation times (track 1 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:45:13GMT. Track 2 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:55:13GMT, etc) However now all the tracks are listed in reverse order (most current creation date first). I find this to be an enormous inconvenience and am still at a loss as to why iTunes can't display the tracks in the order they're listed in the RSS feed, regardless of creation date.
Any assistance on how iTunes does its initial track sorting would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sort podcast by track name - yes or no?

A simple question for which I cannot find an answer. Does iTunes allow sorting PODCASTS by track name? From what I've read in the many convoluted questions and answers, apparently it cannot. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

    *Short answer:*
    No.
    *Longer answer:*
If you make a playlist and drag the podcasts into it then yes, you can sort them on any column that iTunes caters for, but you can't do it in the Podcasts section of your library
    *Even longer answer:*
Details of how to reconnect orphaned episodes and reorder tracks within a podcast should be in this older thread:

  • Creating podcasts and videos using keynote and ???

    Hello all,
I am looking for software solutions.
I am preparing to turn some of my lectures into podcasts and quicktime videos. I hope to make it so that each slide has its own audio track so that as the lecture changes over time, so too can just that small bit of audio. For this reason (and the fact that the audio is then built into the lecture) I dont really want to record directly with Keynote.
I have briefly messed around with Garageband to see if this is the best solution, but when I export the Keynote to GB, it wont let me manage the slide time individually. I suppose I could create an image out of each slide and drop that into GB, but that seems rather convoluted.
What have you all been using to create easily modifiable podcasts and quicktime videos from Keynote presentations?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the discussions. I don't know whether the following suggestions will do what you want, but they may be worth looking in to...
ProfCast provides synchronization of slides with audio and Keynote support.
ScreenFlow can capture your soundless Keynote video as it plays and then allow adding of audio files via drag & drop.
_Podcast Maker_ may also be of interest.

  • How to make CD track markers when exporting multiple tracks from one track

I have been remixing a soundtrack on one track. I have imported in many tracks and worked on them as one project and now I'd like to export them as seperate tracks by giving them track markers. I've been reading the manual and this forum but haven't found anything about it. I also wanted to use Logic to clean up some old vinyl records and export them as CDs. Help please.

  • Lost podcasts and music

This was an unhappy discovery on April Fools' Day; tonight when I fired up iTunes to download podcasts and sync my 2nd gen shuffle for work tomorrow, it's like the program was newly installed and running for the first time.  All the podcast subscriptions and archived episodes were gone, and all my music is supposedly in the cloud.
The files -- most of them, anyway -- still reside on my computer.  It's like iTunes lost track of them.  I told the program to scan for files, and it did, but the next time I started iTunes it's like nothing had happened.
When I ran iTunes last night, nothing seemed amiss.  A virus scan tonight showed nothing wrong.  The last update to iTunes was in February.
This is a password-protected account on a family computer.  None of the kids have admin rights and it's doubtful any of them would bother to hack in.
    In short, HELP!

The first link got me on the right path, and everything appears to be back in its proper place, because auribus teneo lupum (my shuffle) just synced up nicely.  (I trust it would let me know if anything on the shuffle wasn't available on the comp.)
Thank you for saving the day!

  • Read the Apple Sept 1 Podcast and it Might be the Time to Get an iPod

I have my second MBP and so far it has been a struggle for me to get the hang of the Mac. I have wanted a basic iPod (4 years ago it was the iPod Classic but that was not the best for exercise). I am not good at figuring how to get songs to the iPod, the whole "Rights" to using music I purchased on iTunes, the set-up of the iPod, which is what ruined an iPod I tried about 3 years ago. I know how can a person ruin an iPod by trying to set it up and learn how to use it. applecare said the same thing.
Are there an recommendations for an iPod for activity:exercise,, bike ,riding, teaching Kinesiology classes, etc. I am not really into music videos. I am into good sound which might require me to look for another brand of ear plugs, but the iPod is what I am here for now. I watched the latest Apple Podcast and did not really understand most of the iPod stuff but it sounded like the reviews were good.
I have a horrible collection of music on my iTunes because most time when I transfer my own CDs to iTunes the genre, artwork, track number or whatever gets screwed up and it takes me hours to try and get it back in order because it makes it much easier to sort the music and know what I have. I saw that program Tune Up but I had no idea if that would help me with the basic problems I was having with some older tunes, finding artwork, etc.
any help would be greatly appreciated. I know I have a lot hear. any feedback that might help me get a decent iPod, one that I could use fairly easy, hook it up to the MBP and get some music on it and learn the other ways to get sons on it. Ae the iPods pretty much only able to take AAC music if it came from iTunes or can I go to other sites ad download music?
Thanks and sorry for the hard to understand post.

The only currently known malware that can impact Microsoft Word are some very old macros that won't run at all with most versions of Office and would warn you first with Office 2011.
As rkaufmann87 has already told you, make sure your OS and all software is fully up-to-date for best protection.

  • Track markers

(If it was me helping out on this board, I'd hate guys who keep asking the same questions......forgive me if this one is so qualified, but I couldn't find a thread for it):
Is it possible to create track markers for sections of a song that may overlap (or be shorter than) regions......? Just so you know where to go to edit, say, a solo or bridge? It'd be nice if the measure indicator would snap to those markers, too.....anyone? no one?

So obvious! You really are the man! Thanks (yet again) HT!
(and btw: what does AFAIK stand for again.....? I know you must have mentioned it at some point, but help a brother out?)

  • How do I find the apps and tracks associated with my ex-husband's account to delete them OTHER than 1 by 1-running Windows 8?

I recently migrated my extensive library from a Mac authorized with both my and my ex-husband's id's to a Windows 8 machine only authorized with my id. I am finding that a good portion of the apps and tracks are still only authorized by his. How do I find these so I can delete them from my library? Finding them 1 by 1 has been VERY tedious. I have seen a script for the Mac to do this, but no solutions for Windows.

It doesn't sound like the Exchange environment is configured in a manner to support these types of clients very well.  Have your Exchange team look at the following

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/10/18/supporting-windows-mail-8-1-in-your-organization.aspx
From the latter article: "Communications applications can connect to a corporate Exchange service
configured to require certificate-based authentication. User authentication certificates can be provisioned to Windows 8.1 devices by administrators or end-users can browse to certificate and install to user certificate storage."
    You might want to:
Ask your Exchange team the public URLs (ExternalURL) for Exchange OWA & ActiveSync
Open the OWA URL in your Internet Explorer from your Surface
If you get a Certificate warning, open the certificate and select Install (NOTE: You may have to install the entire certificate chain).  Your desktop support team should be able to support this because it is the SAME process for standard Windows 8x
    desktops.
Confirm that you can open OWA on your surface with no more certificate or security warnings.  NOTE: The Exchange team will have to configured OWA properly.
Once confirmed, repeat the same steps for the activesync URL that they provided.
When done, try using the OWA OR ActiveSync URL value in your settings of your Mail client.
    Good Luck

  • MBP keyboard and track pad not working

Today the keyboard and track pad on our mac book pro laptop just stopped working. The mouse connected to it by usb continued to work but we can't type or anything. We tried the ^F6 keyboard shortcut but it did nothing since of course the keyboard isnt working. And it is also not the number lock key. The computer was working fine all day up until now. It is just under a year old. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. It appeared yesterday and then magically "repaired" itself. My MBP was fine today. Tonight the problem is back. No response from the keyboard and track pad. Track pad works fine using a USB mouse. My problem appears at start up. The cursor is in the usual upper left hand corner. It can't be moved. Restart, sleep then restart do not solve the problem.
    Suggestions?

  • Does iOS have the ability to automatically show me shipping and tracking info or flight status based on information in my email?

I am considering switching from an android to an iPhone and one of the features I use heavily on my android is my google now cards. It then shows me a card for the weather where I am and where I'm going. I was wondering if Apple had something similar and if it was through Siri or something else? I have an iPad and I haven't seen features like these on it. Everything I've read about Siri so far is that the information given is based on you prompting with a question as opposed to proactively giving me information I need, which is more how I use my android today. If the answer is to us the google now app for iOS, does will it interface with my email and calendar to make relevant cards seamlessly on the iPhone like it currently does on my android phone?
