Podcasts App in iOS not Downloading New Episodes for Some Podcasts
I am running version 2.2 (740) of the podcasts app in iOS 8.0.2
Some of my podcasts are no longer updating, while some continue to work normally.
If I navigate to My Podcasts > [Podcast Name] and then go into the feed tab, I cannot see any new episodes. However, If I unsubscribe and delete the podcast, then go search for it, I can see the new episodes. From here, I can even download individual episodes, but I cannot subscribe to the podcast. For some reason, the purple 'SUBSCRIBE' button does nothing when I tap it.
Is there a way to reset the Podcasts app? Do I need to hard reset the phone?

Since no help was coming from Apple, I decided to try uninstalling 11.1.0.126 and then re-install the newly released version of iTunes for Windows, 11.1.1.11.
The Refresh button now seems to work, and new podcast are being downloaded.

Episode shows up in Podcast app but is "not downloadable"
I am aware that iTunes is having some problems but I can't tell if this is associated with those since I had this same problem once back in November and it was never resolved.
I podcast on Tumblr, but I use feedburner to create enclosures on rich media entries labeled #podcast. I also make sure that the first link on the entry is a link to the mp3. This has always worked in the past, with the exception of my second podcast post on November 20th, which showed up in the Podcast app but not on iTunes. In the Podcast app, it had an image of a file on it and when clicked, a message appeared stating that it is not downloadable. Eventually, the file stopped showing up.
My most recent episode was posted this morning and this same thing happened; it didn't appear in iTunes and in the Podcast app it had the same file clipart and message saying it is not downloadable. I deleted it and reposted it twice, the same thing happening both times. The latest attemp can be seen in my feedburner, where all looks well.
Can someone give me some insight as to what the problem might be? Will it work itself out or will it never reappear in iTunes like my November 20th post? Any help you can offer would be grately appreciated.

iTunes does not handle Flash files, so it sees this episode as having no playable media: consequently it will not display the episode. -
Do I really need to navigate out of the app to simply download a new or different episode in the Podcast app? Was a simple one touch before, but maybe I am missing something.
Nevermind, I realize you must the have subscription button (in settings) turned to 'on' in order to manage/DL episodes.

Podcast app in iOS 7 downloading everywhere!
I had the apple podcast app only downloading audio podcasts on my iPhone and on my Mac it only downloaded video podcasts. That is how I cosume these. Since update to iOS 7, all podcasts appear on both iphone and mac. I don't want video podcasts on my iphone because I don't want to use the space there plus I do not watch them on the iphone, I watch them on my Macbook Air. Conversely, I don't listen to audio podcast on the MBA.
I don't remember how I got it to do this but it is not doing this after updating.
Anyone else do this that can tell me how to do it?

EdgarOdd also is that the synch problem I have with the Podcast app is onky on my iPod Touch where I've downloaded both the app and iOS 6. On my iPhone 4s and iPad 2 where I am still on iOS 5, the Podcast app seems to work, albeit I still receive the "We are sorry, but we are unable to authorize your account. Please contact customer service" for certain Podcast subscriptions.

How can I download all episodes for a podcast in 11.2
SInce upgrading the option to download all episodes is gone. I think with all the problems introduced in upgrading I will stop installing new versions unless forced to

Also, why do some of my podcasts now delete automatically after they have been played and some do not.
I have my Settings set to not auto delete
I have to say that Apple seems to screw more things up than it fixes. I would suggest when you include new options you default it to keep it as it was before upgrade so people can choose to use it and not have to reset things not to use it -
I purchased a used iPod touch advertised as 2d generation. I later found that it is first generation. I can use the device for my limited purposes but only when connected to my desktop. For some reason that I can't figure out, I am unable to download "more episodes" for my podcasts or otherwise connect to the iStore when using my wifi connection. Can anyone provide a fix for this problem. Note that my technical skill level is about 3 on a scale of 10.

I fixed this problem by turning off the ipad and then turning it back on after 5-10 minutes.
Hopefully then when you play a video it will start playing. -
Automatic downloads not automatically downloading new episodes
I can't seem to get the Automatic Download setting to actually work the way that it should. As far as I know, this setting should automatically download a new podcast episode when available, and with the most recent update to the Podcasts app, we can now restrict that downloading to wi-fi only. Yippee!!
Problem is that new episodes don't get automatically downloaded, at least not consistently. When I subscribed to a podcast and set it to automatically download, on wi-fi only, it worked perfectly the next time an episode was released. But then the following week it did not work. It did not start downloading until I actually opened the Podcast app and went to that podcast's episode page.
So I tried unsubcribing and resubscribing again, and then the next time a new episode came out - worked just fine. The next morning the podcast was there and ready to go. But then the following week again (this past Friday/Saturday), once again, no joy. It did not download the episode until I opened the app and looked at that podcast's episode list just now.
So what is the deal? Is this yet another bug with this crappy implementation of a podcast app? I really would love to use Downcast instead, I really would, but Downcast does not store the podcast files in the same place as other media on my phone, which means it's not available when I scroll thru the menus when connected to my car stereo. My car stereo only accesses media files in the normal location, UNLESS it's playing before I connect it. But that's a pain, trying to remember to go into Downcast and play an episode before I connect the phone in my car.
Can anything be done about this, or am I not doing something correctly with the iOS Podcast app?I get the following message every time I go to download Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and have no idea why iTunes would care how many shows I have listened to. For the heck of it I deleted a bunch of them but still can't get that infernal "!" to leave!

iOS 7 will not alow podcasts lists in the music app so we have to use the podcast app
but iTunes 11.1 and / or the Podcast app on iOS 7 will not show podcast play lists created in iTunes (well maybe it does but clicking on the podcasts app causes iTunes to freeze so can not select)
sometime some folders created in iTunes have appeared with the Podcast app but others not.
creating an on the go list in my iphone is agony - I have over 100 podcasts I have subscribed to and when creating a list you can not view by most recently downloadded podcast
AND you can't search (no search bar) so I have to scroll through to find a podcast that might have been updated - but they are not in any logocal order that I can work out (not alphbetical or date added).

no I don't want an app where I have to download to the phone directly, thats 100 subscriptions I will have to make agaianAgree about the disaster part. I haven't found a fix within iTunes.
I gave up and switched to downcast 2 days ago. Even though it was a hassle to re-subscribe to all my podcasts, im so much happier.
To make switching easier, I found that in iTunes you can "get info" on the podcast and copy the RSS address to the clipboard. Put all of these in a message note. When iCloud syncs the note to your phone, you can copy and paste the urls into downcast one at a time to subscribe.
Downcast has crashed on me occassionally when I'm subscribing to feeds, but so far it has recovered gracefully each time and no data was lost. -

You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes. You may get the following message:
iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
You can click Yes to continue downloading additional episodes. Or you can just listen to any part of any episode and a new episode will download at the next update.I believe that feature was added in order to reduce wasted costs to the Podcaster.
Podcasts incur costs - that have to be paid for, by someone. That cost will be the cost of hosting the Podcast on a server somewhere and more crucially (with regard to your point), the cost of the Podcast being downloaded to your computer. Every download costs the Podcaster money (typically, charged by bytes downloaded).
If that Podcaster pays for the whole thing personally, obviously they want to keep down any unnecessary cost to themselves. If the Podcaster is earning money for his or her Podcast (typically from advertising within the programme) then obviously, the advertiser only wants to pay for advertisements heard by listeners. So a download, not heard by the downloader, is waste of the Podcaster's money or no payment from the advertiser.
My own experience is that I only have to resume downloading once per programme. I'm usually several episodes behind on two different Podcasts that I follow, but I do not recall having to repeat the resume Podcast after that first time. -
Ok so I updated to iOS 7 on my iPod (5th) it let me update my apps but I cannot download new apps thanks to the terms and conditions. Also my iTunes won't start it just blank, I tried everything I need help
Did you download the new iTunes update that was also released this afternoon? That might be the problem. The new iTunes update came out today as well as the new iOS 7 update and if you haven't downloaded the new iTunes update it may be a compatibility problem so if you didn't, first update to the new iTunes and try again.
