Podcasts Automatically Replaced on iPod

Hello,
When my iPod syncs and updates, all my old podcasts are automatically removed and replaced with the new ones. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I have also tried dragging the old podcasts to the iPod, but it isn't allowed.
Thanks.
lsb

Change your iPod podcast settings so that it syncs ALL podcasts and not just those "unplayed". I have mine set to unplayed so that as soon as I've listened to it, it takes them off of my iPod.

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.
    Need Help!!!

  • Since downloading newest itunes I can't transfer podcasts from desktop to ipod. ***??

I got the newest itunes version and since then when I download a podcast to my desktop I can't transfer it to my ipod. I used to drag it over with no problem. Now I just get the circle with a line. Can't open on itunes, can't put it in music library. ***??

Are you using automatic syncing to load the iPod?  Or do you load the iPod manually (by dragging items to the iPod in iTunes)?
Automatic syncing is the more convenient way to do it.  To sync automatically, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Podcasts tab.  This is where you tell iTunes how you want podcasts synced to your iPod.  You can get pretty specific, down to the level of individual podcast episodes.  You should also set up the Music tab, to tell iTunes how you want your music library synced to your iPod.  When you click Apply, your iPod will load ("sync") based on how you set up those tabs.  Going forward, any changes that you make to your iTunes library (that related to those tabs) will sync automatically, when you connect the iPod or click the Sync button.
If you want to load the iPod manually, on the Summary tab, you need to check the checkbox that says Manually manage music (and Apply the change). If it's currently not checked, the iPod is set for automatic syncing, so you cannot drag items to the iPod in iTunes to load them.

  • DEP preventing Itunes from automatic sync with ipod

I can't find anything about this anywhere so you might be able to help me!
I changed the podcast automatic sync settings on my ipod and for some inexplicable reaon, the ipod (160gb classic) started sncing manually with itunes. (i'm pretty sure i didn't touch the manual tick box!)
Everytime I unclick the manual snyc button on the ipod page, itunes shuts down and i get a message saying that data execution protection has prevented changes. I have attempted to change the DEP setting for itunes, but I get a message saying that i'm not authorised/ not safe to do so. i am logged in as an administrator.
Anyone have any idea what to do next!?!

I basically was unselecting "manually manage music and videos", ok-ed the standard do you really want to do that box and the itunes shut down.
Windows problems/solutions would then tell me about itunes not having enough DEP priviliges.
Unfortunately I'm not able to tell you what happens, as I have just tried it again to get the exact errors and it has worked beautifully!
no shutdowns, no problems. I haven't done anything differently.
Problem reports and solutions don't mention the DEP thing but say fault with stackhash_fd600.
Obviously posting on this forum in itself is enough to solve problems!

  • Help-cannot download podcast from itunes to ipod.  error msg

I have the IPOD video 30gb, 5th generation, and have itunes 7.02..
I am able to download the podcast from itunes into my library, but am unable to download it onto my ipod. an error msg pops up:
"...was not copied to the IPOD because it cannot be played on this IPOD."
I've searched and searched for an answer to this, and it appears to be a somewhat common problem with the itunes upgradeto 7.02
does any one have a solution?!?
HELP! (i'm an ipod newbie-and this is driving me absolutely MAD!!)

    OMG-i just figured it out!!
*first of all, i came across this in the itunes store help area-->
"Why won't some video podcasts play on my iPod?
Some video podcasts, while playable in iTunes, are encoded in formats that are not compatible with iPods. To convert those videos so that they are iPod-compatible, highlight the video in iTunes, right-click on the selection, and choose "Convert Selection for iPod". iTunes will automatically re-encode the video for playback on iPod. Go to the Movies section of your Library to find and play the converted episodes.
*i had converted the podcast previously, but i had just continued to try and transfer it from the podcast section rather than going to the movie's section, and dragging it from there. once i did that, it worked!
hope this helps anyone else out there, as i did come across a few other queries...

  • Itunes update and automatic update of ipod help needed

i just upgraded to the newest version of itunes (6.4?), and i deleted some songs out of my library and it gave me a message to the effect that next those files would be removed from my ipod next time i connected it.
i know in the previous version of itunes that i had, i had shut off the option that automatically updates your ipod when you plug it in, so i tried to find that option on here and was unable to, i think it might show up after i plug in my ipod, but obviously i dont want to plug in my ipod until i know it isnt going to get erased, anyone know if i can connect my ipod safely of if i need to change something, and if i need to change something where i would find that control. thanks in advance for any help

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
If at any stage iTunes brings up a dialogue window asking whether you want to replace the songs on your iPod with the songs in iTunes, press *No*.

  • I just replaced my ipod touch 2nd gen with another how can i get my itunes back

i just replaced my ipod touch 2nd gen with the same model and cant seem to get my iyunes back

Don't understand question, Changing iPod shouldn't affect iTunes on the computer you sync with.  Plug in new iPod, it should take you through some screens of options asking how you want to setup the new iPod.
Just did this when going from 7+ year old iPod video to iPod Touch 5th gen.

  • I need some advice on replacing my ipod touch 4th generation screen. The silver plate won't go back into it's original place and i can't put the screws back in. I really need help i don't want my ipod to be broken!!!

I started to replace my ipod 4g screen but the silver plate that goes on top of the battery won't go back into place. It's not lining up with the screw holes so i can't finish the repair. Please I'm begging you all to help me with some advice and tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be greatly appreeciated. ASAP

Your best bet is to email the company that sold you the screen for advice.  Or you could search on YouTube for repair instructions.  Hopefully, you will see where you went wrong.  Apple will not do an out-of-warranty replacement on an iPod that has been opened.

  • My podcasts will no longer sync with my ipod classic. Also when I tried to sync in itunes, the category "podcast" disappeared under my ipod listed in itunes.

My podcasts will no longer sync with my ipod classic. Also when I tried to sync in itunes, the category "podcast" disappeared under my ipod listed in itunes.

Are you sure your iPod Classic is configured to sync podcasts to your device?  You'll want to double check by taking a quick look at your iPod's Podcast configuration tab in iTunes.
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes when it appears to bring yourself to the iPod's Summary tab. Now locate the Podcasts tab and select it.  Under this tab you can configure how and what podcasts are synced to your device. If you make any changes, be sure to click theApply button in the lower right hand corner.

  • Lost music..... replaced my ipod touch 2g for itouch 3g running iOS 5.1.1

I replaced my ipod touch 2g for a 3g and update it to iOS 5.1.1. I had no problem updating but I also discovered I lost some of my music from reseting my computer. Is there a way I can get my music back? also is there a way I can get my third-party music back?

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If the non-iTunes purchases are on the old iPod you can copy them to your computer by:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
and then sync them to your new iPod.

  • I have a 5th gen ipod and recently all of my video podcasts stopped showing up in my ipod.  They still show up and play in itunes, just not in my video podcast list on my ipod.  All of the podcasts are Quicktime Large.

I have a 5th gen ipod and recently all of my video podcasts stopped showing up in my ipod.  They still show up and play in itunes, just not in my video podcast list on my ipod.  All of the podcasts are Quicktime Large.  For some reason my ipod has stopped supporting Quicktime Large.  Now I've had to redownload every video podcast as Quicktime Small.
Anyone have any ideas whether this is from the the software version 1.3 and if they'll fix it in the next update?

I'm having same problem, but QT Small videos are also not getting synced.

  • How to move podcasts from iTunes to iPod...nano 2nd gen with iTunes 8.2.1,

...that don't have the little blue dot indicating that they've not been listened to? These podcasts aren't sync'ed to iPod bec iPod thinks that they have been listed to and they haven't. How to 'restore' these podcasts to their original 'unheard' status? The solution appears to manually manage podcasts, but I couldn't follow directions which I think were intended for iTunes 9 --such as find the Source and go from there (no "Source" on my iTunes).

You can also change your settings from iTunes under the 'podcasts' tab of your ipod. If you set it to sync all episodes instead of all unplayed episodes it should work just fine.
If you wanted to pick which podcasts sync but don't want to manually manage, you could also create a smart playlist that chooses all 'checked' podcasts and sync that playlist instead. Then only the podcasts you check will be synced, regardless of whether or not they've been played.

Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?

    How to reset iPod

  • I have already had to replace my ipod clickwheel

I have already had to replace my ipod clickwheel (less than a year old) once because it froze when I removed the headphone jack from the ipod. It would function even after using the 5 "Rs." My powerbook G4 would not recognize it and when I took it the the genius bar at apple, the rep. told me it had to be replaced because it was a defective iPod. He gave me a brand new one (this was in November 2005).
My new iPod clikwheel (the replacement) has frozen, just like the first one, but this it happened after I selected the "eject" function on iTunes. I waited for it to disconnect and then I removed it from the firewire cable (it was fully charged at this point and properly ejected). As soon as I removed it from the firewire cable the iPod froze (I have never had this specific problem until now).
I went through the 5"Rs" and nothing helped. Now I have the same exact problem as I did with the first one and this new iPod is only 4 months old! I now have to go back to the genius bar and ask for another iPod. I paid $300 for this machine and it is unreliable. I am going to ask for my money back unless Apple can gauarantee either that this will not happen again or that they will repapi the iPod for as long as I have it if this problem occurs again. I am tempted to use a different brand of mp3 player.
Why is this happening? The discussion boards don't help. I've read so many complaints of the same problem but no one seems to have had the problem occur twice! - and now one has stated the events prior to the problems. Is this a permanent problem with the clickwheel? Did Apple know about this when they released it to the public? Is Apple doing anything to fix the problem? Will there be a recall? WIll Apple refund or replace every single iPod clickwheel with new reliable ones? I believe this is a serious problem that needs immediate attention. I will go to the apple store...again.. but have asked Apple to file my complaint. I have sent this complaint to Apple online and will be sending a copy to Apple's corporate offices as well.
I would love to ask everyone and anyone to reply to this message if you have had the same permanent problem with your iPod Clickwheel - it freezes, is not recognized by the computer, does not appear in iTunes, the desktop, or the disk utility, when connecting via Firewire or USB the iPod screen displays "Do Not Diconnect" but never changes, 5 R's do not work, and after speaking to a genius bar Apple representative or apple care technician you are told that the only solution is to have the iPod replaced. Pleas state if the amount of times this problem has occured and if it has occured with multiple iPod Clickwheels.
    Thank you.

    never mind
