Podcasts clutter up my music library

I am subscribed to several podcasts. When I download one, it appears in the library list. I do not like this, as I find it clutters up the view. My podcasts are already listed in the podcast section, so it seems redundant for them also to be listed in the library view. I would like for only my songs to be listed in the library. Is there a way to set ITunes to do this?

  • Getting Podcasts out of the Music Library

I download about 15 different podcasts, and I'm having trouble with a handful of them that are filed under the Music library in iTunes. I'm pretty sure that the ones that are sent to the Podcast library I had to hit a "Subscribe" option, and the ones that are in the Music library I had to hit a "Get Track" option. The only solution I could think of is to move the files from the Music folder and into the Podcast folder, which did nothing.
If anyone has a solution to this problem I would greatly appreciate the help.

Well I have the same or similar problem as the original poster, some of my podcasts ( I downloaded off iTunes, I always do) that I downloaded are in the music folder which is quite annoying.

  • Podcasts are posting to music library

some of my podcasts are downloading in to my music library--not all
and not all from one topic
    totally random
    any ideas???

First of all, do you mean they are downloading into the music library in iTunes (before getting onto the iPod)? How are you obtaining these Podcasts, are you subscribing in iTunes, using Get in the iTunes Store, or are you using another method of downloading the Podcasts and then moving them into iTunes?
Give us an example of a Podcast programme that you've had trouble with, maybe we can try it ourselves.

  • ITunes U Podcasts polluting Music Library

    Hi there,
I have strange issue using iTunes 9.
I subscribed to iTunes U podcast. iTunes downloads chapters and throws it into iTunes U label but at same time it adds it into Music Library.
iTunes U podcasts on grid view in "U" section are shown as different podcasts but in list view everything is OK.
    See screenshot for details:

In Music Library while in grid view I can see all those podcast's chapters all around.

Strange is - my "U" content is labeled as "Music" while in Music Library and as "Podcast" while in iTunes U section selecting multiple files at once. Such settings are "out of the box" right after file is downloaded from iTunes.

I can't do anything about it - as you can see options are grayed out or changing them does nothing.

  • Podcast pdf show notes appearing in Music library

I subscribe to a podcast which posts both the mp3 audio file as well as pdf show notes. iTunes is confusing these pdf files as digital album booklets, and the pdfs are appearing in the music library, as well as in the podcasts library. The podcast mp3 audio files are ok, they do not appear in the music library, but stay in the podcasts library.
I have noticed this behavious since iTunes 8. I am currently running iTunes 9.
Anyone has any advise on how to correct this?

I had a bunch of pdf files and other iTunesU files showing up in my Music list. The only way I could get this cleared up was to delete them and download again - the "KIND" category for some of these is new to iTunes and so with no classification, they will show up.
You might be able to edit the info on these and add or change KIND values so they move to the right view.

  • Sharing a music library also shares podcasts??

My wife and I have our own logins for this computer. She has her own iTunes, although we share the same Music folder. That way we can listen to some of the same songs without having duplicates on our machine. Anyway, here is the problem: Because we share the same music library, iTunes thinks we automatically want to share the same podcasts, which is not true. Whenever I do a "Add to libarary" from the file menu, it pulls her podcasts and puts them under mine.
Is there a way to share the same library of music, but NOT share the same podcasts? The current method, if I don't intervene, will attempt to put her podcasts on my iPod.
    Thanks!

  • Music library and podcasts

I like to listen to music by selecting all tracks to play randomly.
However, since I install the podcast application, this also includes the podcasts, which I do not want to be included when I actually want to listen to music.
So is there a way to tell the music library to ignore all the podcasts?
(btw, I own a e51 if that matters)

I am having this very same problem. ever since I allowed some new updates, everything changes on my computer. my desktop icons disappear, all my itunes songs vanish, my websites favorites are wiped out. it's a tremendous pain to have to create new favorites everytime I turn my computer back on again.
I've seen that the files do not actually disappear (for example the itunes music is still located in my old files, but the library shows nothing.
basically my problem is that each time I power on, my desktop appears clean as a whistle, with just my main drive and my priceless My book icon showing. all my 22+ other icons have dissappeared. so I navigate to the old desktop file, command c to copy all the desktop icons, commnand paste them back onto the now clean new desktop, eveything now looks good, I do the same thing for itunes, find the missing files, import them back into itunes....but then when I shut down and power back up, the pasted icons and newly imported music AGAIN all disappear.
extremely frustrating, but I'm determined to find the solution.

  • Including Podcasts in Music Library

Hi there. Is it possible to include podcasts in the Music library. I'd also like iTunes/iPod to include podcasts when it shuffles through songs. Is that possible, too?

I am also trying to do something similar. What I want to do is store my podcasts on a seperate drive from my music files. I think that if I make an alias directory in my main Itunes folder to point it to the other drive it would work but I am not 100% sure how to go about this.
Let me know if you figure out sa solution to your problem.

  • Podcast in Music library NO!

Since upgrading to itunes 5 my podcasts are now in my music library how can i get them out of there, i never remember them being there before?

I filed a bug on this as soon as I'd downloaded iTunes 5. It's named a 'Music Library' but podcasts aren't music. It's incredibly frustrating to have your music interrupted by a spoken podcast - especially if it's a 'story'. Videos and PDF's are skipped so I don't see why this should be any different, and if they're leaving it in the library I sure as **** don't see the point of the "Podcasts" source item.
    Current workarounds:
    - Edit menu "Show Search Bar" and click music (however this disables itself randomly)
    - Choose "Shuffle" in the play options - podcasts are automatically selected to sikp when shuffle is selected.
For what it's worth, a lot of people have complained about this already.

  • Getting song downloaded in a podcast to show up in music library

I subscribe to a podcast thqt downloads one free song per day. These show up in the recently added library, but not the general music library. Any tips on getting them to show up in music library? I have searched around, but have not found an answer.

Almost followed your advice of doing a conversion.
Though it grieved me greatly: I have a 2+ hour
    concert that's a keeper
In another thread, someone (forget as I read
dozens of messages) mentioned that podcasts have
    an invisible tag in them.
I used mp3tag to delete all tags from the file
and then I typed them in by hand. When I did an
import into my library it worked -- and there
    was much rejoycing.
    Note that mp3tag did not display the hidden tag;
it was only able to delete it as part of a "delete
    all tags" operation.
This process could certainly be automated: dump
the tags to a text file and reload them. Rinse.
    Repeat.
    Anyway, hope this helps

  • Why are podcast being synced as part of my music library?

I think other people are having similar problems, but I can't seem to find a topic that's exactly the same as mine, so apologies if this is a repost:
I have a 20" Intel iMac running OS X 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.2. I have a 4GB iPod Mini, and a Music Library consisting of 267 songs (1.6 GB total), and several podcasts that I subscribe to. When I attached my iPod to this particular Music Library and set the synchronization settings, I checked the box under Music for it to sync my entire library (since it was well under my 4 GB limit), told it to sync only the most recent episode of 3 podcasts, and disabled disk use, contacts and iCal.
When I clicked "Apply", I was told that there wasn't enough space on my iPod to sync everything, and did I want to turn off Podcast syncing. It struck me as odd (there was no way that three podcasts were taking up the remaining 2.4 GB of space), but I clicked OK anyway. THEN I was told that there wasn't enough space to synchronize my entire music library, and did I want iTunes to select what songs to copy. Befuddled, I clicked OK, and then saw the progress meter copying 1 of 309 songs. This was VERY strange, since my library window showed only 267 songs and 1.6 GB.
As I watched the progress, I saw it copying episodes of my podcasts! Why is iTunes recognizing my podcasts as part of my music library when they don't show up in my library window? I checked my library folder, and all my podcasts are within the "podcasts" folder, and inside their respective folders on top of that. Is this a bug or a "feature". The only way I was able to get the sync to work correctly was to tell iTunes to only sync my playlists, but that didn't work completely, because there are items in my library which aren't in specific playlists.
Any insight that you could offer would be appreciated. TIA.

Figured it out...make sure your default "smart" playlists are set to ignore "Genre > Contains > Podcast". Otherwise you end up with Podcasts in your playlists that you didn't know were there.

  • Copy portions of Podcasts into music library iTunes 7

    Hello,
I used to copy portions of Podcasts into my Music library in iTunes 6. On the downloaded Podcasts, I go to Information and then in the Tab "Options". There you can specify a start and stop time (corresponding to the section you want to hear). I then go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Convert the selection to AAC". This ended up creating a portion of the Podcast in the Library i iTunes 6.
In iTunes 7, the same works the same way, BUT at the end of the process, the copied portion of Podcasts is not visible in the "Music" part of the Library (nor anywhere else).
When searching for the file with Spotlight, the file (copied and converted to AAC portion of Podcast, thus a m4a file) is there, but apparently "not seen" by iTunes!
Anyone experienced the same... and found the workaround???
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi!
Finally, something similar to my experience! I usually save a podcast by using "Convert to MP3". In iTunes 6 the file would show up in my "Library" as music. In iTunes 7 the file goes into limbo... It is not music nor a podcast anymore.
So now: I convert the podcast to MP3, find it in my "Recently Added" smart folder. Then I change the genre to "savedpodcast" so it will show up in a smart folder corresponding to the genre "savedpodcast". If you option-delete an item in a smart folder, you delete the file from the iTune Library.
I hope Apple will work on this situation because it is so easy to just "lose" those former podcast files in the iTunes 7 Library.

  • Podcasts go into Music Library rather than podcast list

    Hi
I've been downloading a variety of podcasts from iTunesU. Most of them go into the podcast list as you'd expect but some don't - instead they add themselves to the Music Library and also create playlists from themselves! When this happens the podcasts in question don't appear in the podcast directory, just in the music library
I don't want them in the Music Library - they're podcasts after all not music - but can't seem to move them without deleting them
    Any suggestions

Found an answer in another thread around here. It's for changing from Podcast to Music, but if you reverse the directions, you'll be all set!
"The "usual" suggestion for anything to do with Podcasts is put them in a playlist, although personally I have never tried this so I don't know if they would appear under music. If you're really determined, you could make a copy of the Podcast file and place it in a music folder. That is, look in the Podcasts folder, and copy or move the file to another folder. You would then have to "add that file" to the iTunes library, and if you've moved it, delete the link to the old location in your library. This seems like an awful lot of work (for each Podcast episode) that achieves ... well, very little quite frankly."
    Here's what I did.
From within the Mac's finder, I copied the file to the folder for the podcast I want it to appear with. Then, from within iTunes, I selected Add to Library, navigated to that folder, and picked the file--and voila! It's back listed among the other podcasts!

  • ITunes - iTunes U podcasts insist on appearing in music library

    Hi,
I hope this is roughly speaking the right place to ask this.
As the subject says I have downloaded a lot of podcasts from iTunes U and rather than being in the podcast library they have appeared inthe music library.
Downloading via my iPod touch they appear as regular podcasts so the issue is in iTunes.
Is there a way of forcing these podcasts be act like proper podcasts.
I don't mind too much if I have to hack a script together, but I would prefer something involving less effort.
    Thx,
    Rob...
    Examples are:
    iTunes U -> Stanford -> Science & Technology -> Mathmatics & Computer Science
iTunes U -> Little Kids Rock -> Guitar Lessons - Videos

    glun wrote:
After downloaded a number of podcasts from iTunes U, they appear in the music library of my computer (but yes too it's better if they go under podcasts...)
but I can't find them in the library or anywhere in my iPod.
All my iTunes U downloads happen to be videos (perhaps they all are - I'm not a frequent user) and I found them under *Video Playlists.* From the *Main Menu,* look under *Videos/Video Playlists,* but do not look under Movies, they are not there!
Note that if Videos is not already shown on your Main Menu, you can select it to show up by going to *(from Main Menu)/Settings/Main Menu.*
By the way - the iTunes U videos cannot be found with the Search facility on my 160GB iPod Calssic. Bit odd really!

  • Why do podcasts I add appear in music library but not in podcasts ?

I personally find iTunes to be deeply counter-intuitive and confusing, so this maybe a simple user error. I'm adding podcasts from a hard disk. They were downloaded some time ago, under linux, from BBC Radio using the 'getiplayer' app. They exist as mp3 files on my harddisk, within a 'My Music' folder (my mistake).
When I add music files to iTunes from 'My Music' the podcasts are addded to the music library. When I delete them from that library, sending the files to trash, then add them from the original source to the Podcasts library, they appear back in the Music library but are not listed under Podcasts
    What am I doing wrong?

There have always, well for the past few years, written installers that just create a mess.  All installed applications should appear in Finder, Applications.  Not all of those will appear in Launchpad.  When you encounter one that does not appear in the correct way, all you can do is manually move things around so it is consistent with the way apps should work.
