Podcasts disappear from Ipod Classic

I recntly purchased the ipod classic 120gb, and dowloaded a number of podcasts which I have been playing. However, yesterday I was viewing one (podcast) when the ipod froze for about 15 seconds, when I was able to go back into the menu all the podcasts disappeared except the one I was viewing.
Can anyone, someone, explain why this has happened?????
I love my ipod!
I need answers.

It sounds like you use the Sync function to update your iPod (that is the best way). There is a setting which controls which Podcasts stay on your iPod, and it's this you need to change.
Connect the iPod to your computer. Highlight the device <your iPod> (left hand side bar) and then click on the Podcasts tab. On that tab, change the various options to the one you want. It probably says "Keep all unplayed episodes" which means it will remove a Podcast from your iPod when you have listened to/watched it.
Change these settings to (for instance) "Keep all episodes" or "keep last x episodes". (I'm currently using my laptop which does not have my iTunes installed so I may have the actual wording wrong - but I hope you get my drift.)

  • Music files disappeared from iPod Classic 120GB

    Hi everyone.
Today I tried transferring music from my old iPod Classic (120GB) to my computer. These files were originally stored on another computer that since died, so I wanted to transfer them (backup) to my new laptop.
However, the software crashed, and my iPod now shows "No music".
However, the Settings page talks about 46.4GB used memory on the iPod.
These 46.4GB match the amount of music I had in it.
When I go to Settings > About, in the diagram that represent the space used on my iPod, there is a very small part related to my pictures (these did not get erased from the iPod), and then a very big part (about 2/5 of the total diagram) that says "Other".
I believe this "Other" part is linked to the music that used to be on it, but I do not understand why it doesn't show as "Music" anymore, and why all of my songs seem to have disappeared.
Did anyone encouter the same problem ? Is there any possible explanation/solution ?
I would really appreciate any help anybody can give me.
    Virginie

"Other" means files that have become corrupt and the iPod no longer knows what to do with them.
The usual procedure is to move (or copy) your iTunes Library from your old computer to the new one. If the computer (or its hard drive) is not available, the procedure is to use the backup of the Library.
I'm guessing that you don't have a backup of your Library. Although your old computer has "died", do you still have the hard drive? If so, you could put the hard drive into a hard drive caddy, use it as an external device and copy the iTunes Library from that onto your new computer. A local computer repair shop should be able to help you with that.
Failing that, you will have to re-build your Library again.
If you purchased music from the iTunes Store, check in your store account to see if your country allows you to download the music (that you purchased) again.
If you purchased digital music from other stores, check with them to see if you can download the songs again. In Amazon UK, you can.
For music that you imported into your iTunes from CDs, you will have to import them again, from the CD.
For the future, I suggest you maintain a backup of your iTunes Library. If you now have an external hard drive in a caddy, use that. Otherwise, buy one, the larger the better.
Also, as you are now finding, an iPod cannot be put back into a new iTunes. Nor is it a backup of your Library. Everything should be in your iTunes Library - and backed up onto an external drive. The iPod is simply a portable "copy" of your Library, only for playing the music.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  • MUSIC DISAPPEARING FROM IPOD CLASSIC FOR NO REASON

Some of my music has disappeared from my ipod classic (160GB) for no apparent reason, ANY IDEAS WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN?

Sometimes the database files or the files themselves become corrupted.  Usually in this case, it is necessary to either resync the content via iTunes or restore the iPod to factory settings in iTunes.

  • Podcasts disappearing from Ipod

For some reason, a few months ago, my podcasts started disappearing off my ipod, it is an 80gig classic, so i prefer to leave them on there, i have checked in podcast settings that it is set to keep them, and i can't see any pattern emerging as to when or why they will disappear, they still exist on my hard drive and on itunes, but not on my ipod.
    Any ideas?

I had a similar problem when my old Keith and the Girl episodes. iTunes kept syncing them to my iPod causing iTunes to keep turning off Podcast syncing because it ran out of room even though I listened to most of them.
My solution was to turn off Podcast syncing in the iPod settings and just creating a custom playlist (and also set where Playcount is 0" to work around the Podcast bug that causes a file to be marked as played just when it's started). This also meant that I had to add "where Podcast is false" to all the other playlists, but at least I don't miss my Keith and the Girl episodes anymore AND it also works around iPod marking the file as played when I didn't complete the episode.
Also, in the sync options for the iPod, I turned off sync all music and did individual smart playlists.

  • I DOWNLOADED A NEW ITUNES VERSION AND MY PODCASTS DISAPPEARED FROM THE LIBRARY

When I downloaded the second to last version of iTunes to a Windows PC, my podcasts disappeared from my iTunes library and seem to be elsewhere in my computer. Yet iTunes still says I have 80 podcasts. And podcasts still download to somewhere in my computer and sync to my iPod. However, there are some that are on my iPod that I can't find on my computer so I can't delete them. I don't know where to look other than the search function, which hasn't shown me all the podcasts that are stuck on my iPod.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes a couple of times. No luck. A new version of iTunes came along and I downloaded that. No luck. Don't know what else to do.
    Any help appreciated.

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

  • How do I restore playlist folders from iPod classic to iTunes? The library is intact, but the playlists are not and I don't want to rebuild them from scratch!

After reformatting my HD and reimporting all songs back into iTunes succesfully, the playlist folders are gone and I don't want to rebuild them from scratch. How do I restore playlists from iPod classic to iTunes 11.1.3 without resorting to 3rd party options?

I actually tried that in "my computer" by renaming the drive and then got this:
    g-raid (F:) (H:)
then after reading your reply realized I should try renaming it in "disk management" and hey! it worked.
Thanks a lot for the advice.
Now I don't understand why my back-up drive isn't automatically adding the files when I import into the Ex-HD but I'll figuree it out.

  • Tunes from ipod classic to ipod touch

my laptop pouched and all my songs are on there question is i got new ipod touch how do i get my old songs that are on my ipod classic to my desktop so i can put same songs from ipod classic to the ipod touch?

I have 1 library and have 3 ipods including a touch. I create playlists for the touch and only sync those since the capacity of the touch is smaller than the classic. At sync time itunes will give you the option to choose which playlist to sync to the touch.

  • Podcasts disappear from aTV after listening

Bit frustrated! Can any one tell me if I can stop podcasts disappearing from the listing on my Apple TV after I have listened to them? I want to listen to some more than once.
There must be a way; I find it difficult to believe someone has decided we will want to listen to any given podcast only once.
This is a problem since iTunes 10, but I stress this may be because have just noticed it happening - I'm not saying it's definitely an iTunes 10 issue. I have podcast syncing switched off (so they all stream from my Mac), but I have tried syncing and the same thing happens.
    Thanks,
    S.

Yes; YOU may have tried it and the problem didn't appear for YOU. Thank you. I note you're not using a Dual PPC Mac, or OS 10.5.
I was requesting help from others who may have the time and inclination, so I could tell whether or not YOUR setup is unusual in some way. I'm not satisfied with anecdotal reports from only two people (you and me). Please don't put other people off helping me.
I feel its too early to say how likely it is that the problem is specific to my media files: If my media files (downloaded just like everyone else's are), iTunes, the Mac or the aTV have suddenly started behaving oddly, on their own, then I feel it's slightly more likely to be a bug somewhere than anything else. I'm trying to find out for sure, though.
And remember, some one else is having a not too dissimilar problem.
Do you know how I can report a bug?
    Thanks again,
    S.
