Podcasts don't sync, but songs do. Why?

I downloaded a bunch of songs today and a couple of podcasts, then synced my iPod. The songs all synced, buy the podcats didn't, although I can see them listed in iTunes.
What am I doing wrong? (If it matters, my iPod in in my iPhone).

When you connect the iPod (iPhone) and select it in the sidebar of iTunes, there is a separate tab for Podcasts. You have to select the setting on that tab to sync your podcasts.
(I don't have an iPhone, but I'm assuming it works the same way as a regular iPod.)

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?

  • Older unplayed podcasts don't sync

On several podcasts to which I subscribe, I have older (non-current) unheard episodes which I am unable to sync to my iPod. iTunes is set to sync "all unplayed" episodes, but it only seems to sync NEW unplayed episodes. For example, in one podcast I have listened to the five most recent episodes, but not to the sixth. As I continue to download new episodes they will sync, but these older unplayed episodes will not.
I have verified that I am using the most current version of iTunes and the most current iPod software. I also tried restoring my iPod, but the problem persists. Based on comments here, I have double checked to see if the podcasts are being added into a playlist, or if I can find them under Genre -> Podcasts on the iPod, but they aren't there.

I'm having the same trouble that you're having. I discovered my favorite podcasts long after they were created, and I would like to catch up.
iTunes currently syncs "most recent", "most recent unplayed", and "most recent new." I would love for a fourth option: "Least Recent Unplayed." Only three at a time, of course, because I have a iPod Nano.
Manual syncing is fine and all, but it's not automatic.

  • Podcasts don't behave like songs anymore

I listen to a number of short podcasts.
Previously I could drag them into a playlist, where they would play one after another, just like songs.
With the latest iTunes/iPod update this behavior has changed:
When a podcast is over, it goes back to the main screen, awaiting a new selection. This is a big issue, since driving in the car it is not exactly safe to go scrolling back to my playlist and select a new podcast every 3 or 4 minutes.
Is there any way to revert to the old behavior? I don't want to go back to an older version, since I also use Nike+iPod
    Thanks!

  • ITunes says my iPod is synced but songs are not appearing.

I had to start all over with my iPod because all of my files were erased. I downloaded a bunch of new songs and videos and when I sync my iPod, a message appears saying that three of the files cannot be copied. I used to get that before too, so no big deal. But when I look on my iPod, the songs are not there. It is not telling me that it cannot be synced and the bar at the bottom of the preferences page or w/e says that I have 1.60 GB of music, 795.1 MB of video, and 25.42 MB of 'other'. I have already authorized this computer. Why won't it sync properly?

iTunes can "sync" an iPod, and not transfer any songs.  You may need to set up or update automatic syncing in iTunes for the iPod.  Otherwise, syncing may sync nothing.
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When connected, the iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.
Second, when you set up automatic syncing, the iPod's existing content is replaced.  Any songs on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.  Is that OK?  If that's a problem, please post back.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar.  To the right, the iPod's Summary screen is shown.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This setting enables automatic syncing.  If your iTunes music library can fit on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Then, "everything" (that is music) syncs to the iPod when you click Apply.  Going forward, any changes to the music library sync automatically to the iPod, at the next opportunity.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlist, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select (checkmark) what you want on the iPod from the lists below.  For example, you can have playlists in your iTunes library with songs you want on the iPod.  On the iPod's Music screen, select those playlists under Playlists.  When you click Apply, the songs in your selections sync to the iPod.  Going forward, to update your iPod, update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time the iPod is connected (or when you click Sync if already connected), iTunes updates the iPod with the same changes automatically.

  • Some podcasts don't sync

I've recently began having this problem - some podcast files don't get transfererd to my 60G video ipod. Some podcasts have new, unplayed files that don't seem to get recognized for transfer to the ipod, no mater what I do. I've tried various settings, including sync all podcasts; I've tried deleting the podcasts and redownloading them; etc.
I believe this problem may have started happening when I updated to iTunes 7.0 (and updated my iPod at the same time) but I'm not sure.

The podcast publisher says that there appears to be a technical issue with iTunes 7, however he believes that he has found a workaround. I will let you know when the problem is fixed, so maybe he can share the details with other publishers that are having problems.

  • Podcasts don't sync

My ipod worked really well until last week. Started playing it all night. Now when I sync it won't remove unwanted content or add new podcasts.
I've even deleted stuff from the playlist and now it won't sync the playlist.
so I restored it to factory condition (successful restore. didn't fix issue)
    updated all the software
    created this account in community
    synced about 12 times
there are new podcasts in my podcast section. They won't go on my ipod.
Tells me I don't have room for everything, will put as much as it can.
So I checked manually manage and still no joy
    What to do?

I'm not 100% sure about this.  I know some users have just created an On-The-Go playlist for their podcats.  They added the podcasts to the playlist in the order they wanted them to play in and it worked just fine when they listen to that playlist.
I know you can also set up a Smart Playlist in iTunes for the podcasts (sorted by Date) and then sync that to your iPod.

  • Done The Update But Songs STILLLLLL Skipping !!! GRRRRR!!!

This is crazy. Dont get me wrong i love my i touch to bits and use it everday. But the annoying deature is that it still skips songs half way through. Even on the downloads. For example i bought the all time classic Survivour Eye of The Tiger from the i tunes shop the other week. On syncing it to my ipod touch, it skips the song half way through!!! AAARRRRRRGHHHHH!!! Yet it plays just fine on my desktop i tunes !!! WHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY!!!
IS everyone else having this same problem? My ipod tocuh is all up to date with the latest firmware as is my i tunes. Come on Steve can we have a fix please !!!

I have experienced this problem. I will explain as much as I can, what was happening and how I fixed it: (I am using a new PC with windows Vista)
During song playback - my iPod Touch would either skip and stutter like an old vinyl record, OR stop completely, and move directly to the next song.
During video playback - the video woud go all pixellated, the sound would drop out, and within about 2 seconds, crash back to the 'home' screen.
If I re-synched my library, (i even tried manually synching songs to the touch) then the 'stutter' or 'skip' points would change, either within the song (or movie) or move to different songs.
solution: I decided that this was likely a USB problem while synching, and tried something different (at the suggestion of another poster here in the forums, thank-you)- I went out and purchased a $10 USB pci card and installed it in my computer. It added 4 new USB ports on the back of my computer, in addition to the onboard USB provided on my Motherboard. But using this to sync my iPod, all the problems went away!
SO, I suspect that some (very few, but they are out there) motherboards have an onboard USB that doesn't work well with iPod Touch. (or the Touch has something not quite right that doesn't work with all USB controllers) Who knows where the problem lies, but for me the $10 was well spent.
I won't go into the issue of having to spend extra money in order to get something working that should work out of the box, there are enough of those posts here already. (I also held my nose while spending $20 for the January upgrade.) oops, there I go again... But I am happy with my touch now, and it works flawlessly, and I use it every day.
    Hope this helps you!

Mostly because you are not using any capital letters or paragraph returns and your post is difficult to read.

    Hello Pork Chop 2,
Congratulations on your new Mac!  It sounds like your purchased songs are not playing completely after you downloaded them.  I recommend to following steps for an issue like this:
    Symptoms
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
Download your previously purchased song from this list.

  • When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate

When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate and listed by Al Green, cowboy junkies etc... How to fix this so the ipod part of my iphone will show & play the soundtracks as albums... thanks.

What is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If you have chosen selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres - if Pulp Fiction is available under the Albums section to be selected as an Album to be transferred to your iPhone, is it selected?
If so, when you select Albums via the iPod on your iPhone, the album is not available there to select?
You can always create an iTunes playlist with these songs placing the songs in your preferred order.
