Podcasts...how do i put them on my nano

ive been messing with my ipod for ever and i cant figure out how to out my podcasts on my ipod nano

Thanks btabz...I left some holes out of our discussion....
1 - we downloaded the new nano and itunes updated about 15 minutes ago
2 - preferences were default set to ACC and podcasts to download automatically.
3 - we do have a Source Library entitled Podcasts which has the approx. 10 podcasts (those comedic Strong Bad emails). These same 10 podcasts do appear in our Library as well.
4 - but we can't drag these 10 podcasts to our "named nano" that appears in the source directory nor do they appear in the Nano when we unplug it from our iMac.
When we attempt to drag the Podcasts over our ipod nano in the Source Directory it won't allow them to be placed there but we can drag them over the "Party Shuffle or back into the Library.
It's been rather baffling as all other items have been so simple...other than the music store's search engine being a little weak at times finding artists.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some strange reason you have failed to backup ( not good at all), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

You're not very clear in stating your problem. Maybe it's terminology: "takes" in recording lingo (and in GB lingo) are different version of exactly the same part in a song, so you only want one of them in the end. Please tell us exactly what you did and what it is that you don't like.

Download them to the computer to which the iPod is synced, re-sync.

This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music. See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled. This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

The ID Color Picker works the same as Photoshop's classic color picker except that it doesn't have an H,S,B presentation (which is the more intuitive interface). So both programs let you choose an R, G, B and L, a, b presentation of color via the 6 radio buttons, and you can pick RGB, Lab or CMYK versions of the chosen color—the mode you get depends on where your cursor is. If you pick an out-of-gamut CMYK color it is brought into gamut in the Swatches or Color panels after you click OK.
So here I'm picking RGB, Lab and CMYK Swatches or Colors of the color selection because my cursor is in a respective RGB, Lab or CMYK field, note that the Add Swatch button changes accordingly:
When I click inside the color field, the CMYK values are a color managed conversion of the chosen color, but I also have the option of entering any value. So it would be unlikely I would get a blue gray color like 50|0|0|50 with a color managed conversion, but I have the option to enter those specific numbers.

Switch to the Finder app and open its preferences.
Remove the check mark on the items you don't want displayed in the Sidebar tab.
The originals are not removed from the machine.

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.
Alternatively enable settings > videos > show all videos.

If you synced your iPhone with the same iTunes library on the same computer you have been syncing your iPhone with, not sure how some of the music was lost. If you tried to sync your iPhone with a different iTunes library on another computer, all iTunes content on your iPhone would have been erased first, not just some.
All iTunes content on your iPhone including all music should be in your iTunes library on your computer.
