Podcasts I've listened to are staying on iPod - what's up?

I am trying to get my iPod to remove any / all podcasts I've listened to removed when I sync it with iTunes.
I thought I had this working once, but now it just keeps all the Podcasts even though it shows on both iTunes and the iPod that I've listened to them.
Any suggestions?
thanks,
Chris

Ack. The same thing just happened to another Podcast. It got reset all the way back to the beginning, so every single episode was downloaded and set as if I had never listened to any of them!

  • Getting rid of podcasts I have listened to

    Hi
I have set up my iPod to automatically download certain podcasts. They seem to sync fine from my computer to my iPod, only keeping the ones I have NOT listened to yet on the iPod.
My question is, How do I get rid of the podcasts I have already listened to ON MY COMPUTER? They don't seem to go away.... Do I have to manually select each one and delete it? That would be quite a number to have to see to. Is there no easier way. I have an old iPod and I am still using 10.3. Maybe that is my problem
    Pamela

I have to manually delete the podcasts I have already listened to from iTunes in order to get rid of them. Using SETTINGS, the podcasts I have listened to on the iPod ARE deleted, but they are not deleted from iTunes.
Actually, I think this is a safety measure. Some people purchase their podcasts (eg: language learning, for example) and they DO NOT want to "automatically" delete them from iTunes.... so I am okay with this.... if anyone has a better idea, let me know.

Same thing here. Always listened to 96.9 The Eagle but not anymore. Skipped to the next station down.
This is one of many. What's going on?
    Maybe Apple can tell us!!!!

Or because the episodes are video but are in a format which plays on iTunes but not on an iPod Touch. Only the originator of the podcast can do anything about that.

  • My photos are staying in Photo Stream longer than 30 days

My photos are staying in Photo Stream longer than 30 days.  Aside from the annoyance of not being able to delete them in the first place, on my iPhone they never go away!
Anyone know why this is happening and/or how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Gotcha, thanks Winston Churchill.  I guess they haven't enabled that.

  • The iPod could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPod.

    Full message that pops up
"The iPod could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPod.
To authorize this computer for items purchased from iTunes Store, choose Store > Authorize This Computer."
I am unable to sync my music, applications, movies, etc. to my iPod touch. The only way I am able to bypass the message that pops out when I try to sync (the one in the title) is by clicking "Apply" instead of "Sync". To do this, I make changes to Apps, Music, or Movies (...) and the buttons "Revert" and "Apply" will replace the button "Sync".
My problem is most likely not due to using many accounts because I only have one and it is the only one that I use. I do not share accounts with my family members. Still, I have tried everything here, nothing has worked for me. Since I don't often listen to Podcasts, I have deleted them from my iPod. I have no idea why I am unable to sync and no one seems to have the same problem as me.
Thank you for your help in advance.

  • How do I back up files that are only on iPod?

When I had a Powerbook G4, audiobooks were taking up so much space that I set iTunes to stop syncing between the computer and the iPod. I only wanted the many GB of audiobooks to stay on the iPod. From then on, I manually dragged podcasts and music from my Library to the iPod.
Now the iPod is full, and I want to remove the audiobooks from the iPod, but first I want to save them to a CD/DVD. It doesn't seem possible to do that. I don't want to delete them, because then I'd have to pay for them all over again. I like to keep podcasts up to date on the iPod.
The other possible catch is that since I bought that iPod, I now have a MacBook Pro. Maybe the iPod won't let me copy the audiobooks back to my new computer because it remembers it came from my old computer? (They share the same name, "Geoffrey S. Knauth's computer.") I can't reconnect the old computer because in June I reformatted it and gave it to our exchange student who returned to her home country after a year with our family.

You can copy the files back from the iPod and back them up once they are on your computer. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve information from the iPod. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iRepo Mac & Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • After using Overdrive Media Console for Mac to listen to book on my iPod, my iPod won't work!

The book went on my iPod and played fine. BUT after trying to update my podcasts and put on more books (from Audible.com) I found that NOTHING would go back on my IPod. I reformatted it, and now I have my music, but only some of my books, and NONE of my podcasts. I then deleted the program (and the book) and reformatted AGAIN. Now I have a bit more of my previous stuff, but it still won't let me add all my books (says the iPod is read only, not write, even tho I have changed the settings) and I can't get ANY podcasts back on it. The message says "iPod is already in use."
I have unchecked the manage updates manually, and the box for using it as a storage device. This has been a NIGHTMARE. I have used an iPod for years--and have three different ones, and none of them will play right since the program messed with my iTunes. I have asked the librarians and no one seems to be familiar with the Mac version. They are all looking at me like I have never used an iPod or a computer and just am not understanding how to upload books. I have deleted the program, and the books, as I said, but maybe there is something still remaining? I have used epub books on my touch with no problem, but the audio/MP3 book on my iPod classic is what has created this problem. UGH!! NEVER AGAIN!!
    Any ideas?? PLEASE??

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • How do i listen to my friend's ipod on my computer?

    Hey there guys,
my friend and I swapped ipods so that we can check out each other's music. I'd rather play music through my computer speakers than headphone while at home. My question is, how do I listen to music from her ipod on my PC without accidentally wiping all her music?
I found http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 describing Manual Mode, is that what I want to use? I want to be absolutely sure I'm not going to wipe it.
    Thanks!

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos". The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes.
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
If the iPod is currently set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all the songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from the iPod.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are safely connected you can change the iPod to manual: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

    Hello,
I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10sec. or until Apple logo appears (Nothing will be lost, this is just a "Hard Reset")
    Hope that helps!
If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem (This might even help others with the same problem!)
    Cheers!

  • New computer.  How do I get Itunes to sync the new podcasts without erasing the ones already on my iPod

I just bought a new computer and have installed iTunes.  I want to be able to sync the new epsodes of the podcasts I regularly listen to without erasing any of the podcasts, music or books already on my ipod.

    follow the steps given here...
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • The Dimension for a video podcast has changed and will not load into Ipod

I usually subscribe to a specific vid podcast but lately i have noticed that my ipod will not sync the new vid podcasts. it's very frustrating! i have had a closer look and realised that the vids that don't sync into my iPod have a larger dimension 852x480 compared to the old 480x270. This is an MPEG-4 file. What is the problem? What should i do? Can i adjust the dimension? if yes how? I'm not sure if this is the problem but if there are any suggestions i'd appreciate them.

Right, but if I can't get beyond the startup apple logo, I can't restore with this process:
You can restore an Apple TV (1st generation)'s software from the main menu by selecting Settings > General >Reset Settings > Factory Restore.

  • Will the music stay on iPod?

My sister recently broke her external hard drive, luckily she has most of her music available to download from iCloud with iTunes match but there are a lot of the songs that still say waiting in the iCloud status.
The music she can't download is still on her iPod and she's not too bothered about getting the files back, will the songs stay on the iPod even though the track in iTunes has an exclamation mark next to it and not on the computer?

If you using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, click *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod.
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 10 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
In addition to the articles you have read, there are a number of third party utilities you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    PodPlus Windows Only
Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you choose one of these retrieval methods, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • HT201335 AirPlay mirroring turns on initially and then keeps turning off and will not stay on?  What is wrong?  How can I fix this?

When I AirPlay - mirror my iPad to the apple tv, it initially turns on, but then kicks off my iPad over and over again and will not connect or stay connected.  What is going on?   How can I fix it's issue?  Sometimes it AirPlay/mirrors fine, and other times it does not like to connect at all.  What can I do?

Intermittent issues are often a result of interference. Check www.istumbler.net (netstumbler for windows). Refer to router manual on how to change channels, make sure it's up to date.

  • Safe to listen to music while charging Ipod mini?

    Hello all,
I been trying to find information (google and this forum) about this but had no luck.
I was wondering if it's safe to listen to music while you are charging the Ipod?
The equipment that I have is a 2nd Gen Ipod mini. I also use the USB Power adapter (good thing to have).
    Best regards!

    Hi Vamp2390,
Thanks for you reply. I have been reading a lot that you can do to save the IPod's battery life and how to take care of it but I could not find anything related to use it while it's been charged.
It also looks like there are accessories, like speakers and car lighter adapters that allows you to use your IPod while is being charged.
In the mean time, I'll use my trusty AC Adapter and use my IPod while is charging.
    Regards!
