Podcasts in Library

Up until today all my podcasts showed up in my library, but then mysteriously disappeared. It may have happened sometime when the DSL cut out.
Now I can't get them back. I tried adding the Podcasts folder to the library, but it only re-added them to the podcast folder (making an additional copy of each file -- I had to go through and delete the duplicates). If I drag a file from the Podcast folder to the Library, it doesn't show up. The Podcast do still show up in my smart playlists, however.
Any ideas?

Well, after some playing around it seems like it was just a small glitch. The intended "All" option in the search bar was selected. I clicked on Podcasts to see if anything would show up and they all did. Then I clicked on "All" again, and my problem was solved.
If you were wondering, I like my Podcasts in the library because they are solely one-song casts, such as KEXP's Song of the Day.

  • It is impossible to delete entire podcast from library in iTunes 11. Right clicking a podcast entry do not give option to remove the podcast. I more and more dislike this new iTunes look. [NOT SOLVED]

there is no way to delete a podcast (not an episode, but entire podcast, and not entire podcast library) from the library.

I have discovered that problem #2 is because I no longer get a column of "check boxes" allowing me to check certain songs.  I get it in the library view but not in the CD view, which is where I need it.  Don't see a setting in preferences for this.  Would solve a lot of problems if I could get a column of check marks.

  • How to select all podcasts in Library for deleting.

After burning all of the podcasts in my library to a R/W DVD I want to delete them all. Is there a method of selecting them all in one operation for subsequent deletion?

    Hello there,
Highlight one of the podcasts and then press Ctrl and A together to highlight all of them at once. From there hit the Delete button or right-click and choose Delete from the pop up menu.
You may also be able to head to the Edit drop down menu and choose "Select All"
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems synching podcasts from library to iPod

suddenly two of my fave podcasts will not sync from my library, where they appear normally, to my 30GB video iPod. has anyone else had this problem? i have no idea why this has started to happen nor what on earth to do about it and would really appreciate any help. also, since the latest itunes update i haven't been able to view my photo library on the iPod, i just get the slide show settings screen and nothing else!!

Are you sure that your syncing settings are properly set?
If you connect your iPod to your computer, and click on it in the Source List in iTunes, go to the "Podcasts" tab.
What are your current settings in this area?

  • PODCASTS IN LIBRARY.... UGH

When i first upgraded to iTunes 5, i was excited becuase all these new features SEEMED great. WELL.... iTunes has gone bad. The podcats are in the library making it look disorganized and chaotic! It was soooooo much better when they were sepreate in the podcast source list in iTunes 4.9! I had a hard time downgrading back to iTunes 4.9 but it was worth it. I am sticking here until the podcasts will be seperate in iTunes 5. in iTunes 5.0.1... are the podcats SEPERATE? i am reluctant to download, because i don't want to mutilate my library. Again. Thanks!
    Tyler

It's all OK that podcasts are in "The Library:, but Apple completely ruined it by making the 'podcast' property something you cannot edit and is not part of the standard tags. This means it's totally unusable, because:
I want to keep a podcast, so I drag the podcast to my library. This used to work, but now it doens't anymore. This is logical, because it is already in the library. So I change the tags with iTunes, change genre from 'podcast' to 'radioplay' etc. but there is still some annoying hidden tag preventing this particular piece from NOT being a podcast. Result: Instead of (when browsing with 3 windows)in "Genre=radioplay -> Artist=Tolkien -> Album=LOTR", it now appears in :"Genre=Radioplay -> Artist=Podcast(!) -> Album=LOTR". How the fRRk am I supposed to know that LOTR is written by 'Podcast?!?' Now I know why there is an extended search function: It's not there because it's convenient, it's there because you need it and you will never find your music back again without it!
The worst of all: The example I just gave dissappears from my iPod! I cannot listen to LOTR because it was once a podcast and I changed a tag! This is so annoying, it's infuriating! First they sell you an mp3 player that you can only fill up using iTunes, and then they update iTunes so that you cannot use it to fill your ipod anymore!
This whole podcast thing in itunes has turned so inconsistent that I think Apple sRRRRRd up royally and forgot to test itunes, and all that for something that still doesn't give us music lovers what we REALLY need: three (or 4) window browsing by 'Genre-Composer-Album', instead of this useless 'Genre-Artist-Album'. Who cares who plays those partitas?

  • How to sync iPhone to a different iTunes library without losing content on phone

I've been using iTunes on my Macbook Air mostly for podcasts, which I periodically clean up to conserve disk space. I had a separate iTunes library on an iMac that holds my complete music collection. My iPhone is synced to the library on the Macbook Air. I just recently purchased an external hard drive and moved my whole iTunes library to it, combined with the few albums that I imported from the MacAir library, where the whole shebang is now available via Airport Extreme to both the iMac and Macbook Air, i.e., both computers can now access the same complete iTunes library, and the podcast-only library has been deleted from the Air. But now my phone won't sync to the library on the external drive. I'm not getting the "Sync and Erase" message that I've read about, but I can't drag content onto my phone, either. How do I get the phone to recognize this new library, and will I have to erase all of the music on the phone to do it?

It would be cleaner to simply sync the phone with the new library.  You can manually add music to the phone but you will perpetually be having the problem you cannot do a proper sync.
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 - You can manage your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers as long as you have set the device to "Manually manage music."  -  E.g., adding music from a second computer to an i-device. I can find no podcasts in LIBRARY:Music. In LIBRARY:Podcasts there's only an explanation of podcasts and links to tutorials. But there are podcasts...
1st. Playing music on my iPod in shuffle a podcast happened.
2nd. A smart playlist with rule "Media kind" "is" "Podcast" shows 54 podcast episodes, which I can listen to.
How in Itunes 10 do I view/manage/manage podcasts?

  • Sync Podcasts in ipod 40gb

    Hi everyone...
I have a 40gb ipod and able to transfer my music and photo to my ipod with no problem. BUT sync podcasts do not work.
i have tried different options in ITUNES 7.2 such as:
    All, all new ....,
    tried manually transfer,
Also right click on the podcasts (under library)in itunes selected "convert selection for ipod".
i can not drag and drop to my ipod too.
    There is something missing...???!!
i was wondering any one has an idea??

    "podcasts (under library)"
This may be your problem. You can play podcasts in your library as manual files that you drag and drop.
But they will only automatically update if you select the podcast in the itunes store and subscribe there.
You set the options and download frequency in the Podcasts icon below TV shows.

  • Podcasts dragged to playlists not able to be deleted

i listen to a lot of podcasts and find older episodes from the site's archives which i drag to playlists on my ipod. i've been noticing that some of these (while playable and visible within the playlist) are not appearing under music while in itunes, which effectively means i cannot delete them (and they're eating up space). i've spent so much time getting the selection of tunes on my pod just right (over months and months) i loathe the idea of starting from scratch. it can't be just me, does anyone have a clue?

If you download a Podcast _as a Podcast,_ then it should not appear in Music in the iTunes Library, it will be under Podcasts. Look under Library/Podcasts, not Library/Music/Podcast (genre).
    Where a file or Podcast is located in iTunes depends on how the "file" has been tagged by the producer of the Podcast and how it has been downloaded by you. For instance, referring to what I stated above;
a Podcast should be in your *iTunes Library* under the section Podcasts. However, I have two individual programme episodes from the BBC (in the UK) that appear in the Library/Music section under a genre "Podcast" and this is incorrect. The BBC has tagged the file incorrectly, I believe.
(ii) if you download something "described as a Podcast" as an mp3 file, it will almost certainly end up under Library/Music. iTunes recognises a Podcast by the way it has been downloaded - and a Podcast is downloaded via a "Podcast feed".
Consider this: A programme created by someone can be available as a Podcast through the iTunes Store/Podcast section, it may be available through "juice", which is another Podcast aggregator, similar to the way iTunes gets them, or it may be on their website as an mp3 download. In all cases it will probably be described as a Podcast.
If you *Get Episode* from the iTunes Store Podcasts section, it will be in iTunes as a Podcast. However, if you use "juice" to obtain the same Podcast and then drag it into iTunes, it will not show up as a Podcast in the Podcast section. If you download the mp3 version from their website, it too will not show up as a Podcast.
I hope this has helped. (It's exhausted me!)

  • Music Store not updating podcasts, and what's with relevance?

First off, I'm frustrated as all ****. I went to the iTunes Store support site and apparently you can only get help on issues they allow. . . there's not a readily apparent help email or phone number, and none of their chosen topics answer my questions. . .as if no one could EVER have an issue outside of those few they choose. Very closed-minded.
    Okay, rant over.
Now, I've updated a second episode of my podcast, and iTunes will even download it in my podcast subsription library, but when I click on my 'cast in the iTMS, it's only showing the first episode in the list below. Is this possibly an XML issue, or is the store that slow?
    my xml file is at:
    http://www.dc-kingdom.com/STC/stc.xml
Also, the relevance is very odd. They have me listed at a pretty low relevance for the very subject my podcast is completely dedicated to. How is relevance determined, and can it change?

Never mind: The next time I opened iTunes, I was prompted for the Air America login just like I expected. That doesn't explain why it didn't work the other night, so I guess my question wasn't really answered... but apparently my problem is solved anyway.

  • My iPod Shuffle 4th Generation refuses to sync up the PC plays count

As soon as a new podcast episode arrives in my Podcasts iTunes library, it shows up in that library with a plays count = 0.   When I start up iTunes and update the podcasts, I then copy all new (unplayed) podcasts to a Playlist named "1-UnheardPodcasts", then mark all unplayed podcasts in that playlist as Played, thereby setting the play count on those podcast episodes to 1.   I then copy a bunch of podcasts to my iPod shuffle 4th gen and wander off cackling into the night to listen to those podcasts.  In the fullness of time, I return to my PC, fire up iTunes, plug in my shuffle and see that the shuffle shows the plays count (on the episodes I have listened to) as 2.   I then sync the iPod to iTunes but the plays count in my "1-UnheardPodcasts" playlist and in the podcasts library both stubbornly remain set to 1.   I then have to manually pretend to listen to the podcasts in iTunes again, fast forward to the end of each podcast, let it finish, then the plays counts everywhere are set to 2.  I can then delete the plays count 2 episodes from my "1-UnheardPodcasts" playlist and all is right with the world and I'm ready for new episodes to randomly appear in my podcasts library.
My older first generation shuffles (both of which died and were replaced by the 4th gen shuffle recently) did not have this problem.  Sync from those would always update the plays count on the iTunes application on my PC to match what it showed for the plays count on the shuffle.
What's up with that?  Is there any way to fix this?  It happens whether or not I completely fill up the shuffle.
I also have problems with getting back to where I left off if I stop playing a podcast by pressing the centre button on the iPod face and then try to resume play a few minutes later.  If I shut down the shuffle and restart it, it seems to always resume play from where it left off.
I've got everything turned on in the iPod settings menu except the thing about reserving disk space for Windows files.
I've got what claims to be the latest version (11.0.4) of iTunes running under Windows 7 (64 bit) on a BIOSTAR MB with an AMD phenom II X4 820 2.8 GHz quad core processor with 8 GB of RAM and at least 50 GB of free disk space.
When I click on check for updates with the iPod attached on the iPod settings window, it comes back with "you have the latest version"

If you are loading the shuffle manually, by dragging podcast episodes to the shuffle in iTunes, that is probably why the playcount does not update in your iTunes library, after playing the podcast episode on the shuffle (and then connecting the shuffle).
When you use the manual method to load the shuffle, the iTunes library on the computer and the library on the shuffle are separate.  iTunes does not keep the two libraries "in sync."  Therefore, data such as playcount are not synced back to the computer when you connect the shuffle.
If you set up automatic syncing using the shuffle's Podcasts screen in iTunes, iTunes keeps your iTunes library in sync with the shuffle's library (based on how you set up the shuffle's Podcasts screen).  So data, such as playcount, should sync back to the iTunes library.  In your case, if you maintain a playlist in iTunes with the unheard podcast episodes you want on the shuffle, you can select that playlist on the shuffle's Podcasts screen in iTunes (where it says Include Episodes from Playlists).  iTunes will automatically keep that playlist in sync between your computer and the shuffle.
NOTE:  If you are currently NOT using automatic syncing, and you also have music on the iPod, you will also need to set up the shuffle's Music screen in iTunes.  When you start using automatic syncing, any content on the shuffle that was loaded manually is replaced.
The 1st and 2nd gen shuffles used a different very simple software design, compared to other iPods.  They did not have an automatic syncing mode.  You loaded it manually, but it was linked to only one iTunes library at a time.  Therefore, although you loaded it manually, iTunes does keep data (such as playcount) in sync.  On all other iPods, including the newer shuffles, iTunes only keeps the data in sync if you use automatic syncing.

  • ITunes no longer recognizing iPod

Following a total re-install of MacBook operating system, including an update of iTunes to 10.4, iPod touch was no longer recognized. iTunes 10.3.1 was restored, but now it also is not recognized. Another oddity is that I can not delete podcasts from Library.

Have you tried resetting your iPod?
Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together until the Apple logo appears on your iPod's screen.
Do this several times, and see if there is any difference.
Try putting your iPod into Disk mode, and connecting it to your computer. For more info, see this: Putting your iPod into disk mode
