Podcasts in the Main Library

I am looking for a way for Podcasts to show up when I shuffle through my whole library.

I've got the same issue. I've been listening to MP3 blogs as podcasts, which is great until I decide I like a song and want to keep it. No matter what I do, the song fails to show up in LIBRARY > Music and, if I save the file and reimport it, returns to LIBRARY > Podcasts. Not only is that not how I want to manage my music, but I'm worried that the file will get deleted in the normal course of clearing out old podcasts.
Things I've tried:
- changing the genre from "Pocast" to something else in the Get Info dialogue
- cleaning up the ID3 metadata in ID3X
- deleting the podcast from iTunes and reimporting the file
- physically moving the file into the appropriate folder under iTunes Music
- duplicating and renaming the file in Finder and reimporting it
- consolidating my library
I've even inspected the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file for a field I could edit but don't see one that marks podcasts.
In another thread it was suggested to open the file with Quicktime Pro and export it as an Aiff. This is not a solution because (1) I don't have Quicktime Pro and (2) I want to keep my library in MP3 format, not Aiff.
Is there no straightforward way to move a podcast into my permanent music library?

  • How can I rearrange songs within an album in the main library?

I have a book on tape that keeps loading out of order. I want to make each chapter a a separate album. Everything works but I can't get the tracks to load in order. Using a playlist would allow me to rearrange but then I can't divide it up into albums. Any suggestions?
(Basically I need to make a permanent change to the order of songs in the main library without using a certain criteria like date, track, album, ect. Click and drag is not working either)

    Hi fuzzer,
Have you used the Info (CTRL-I) function? You can edit all track info there, including track number. Sounds like it would do what you're looking for.

  • Is it possible to have a playlist on my ipod touch without the contents of the playlist appearing in the main library?

I want to put lanuage learning files on my ipod touch, but don't want to listen to how to say "where is the bathroom?" in another language while playing through my main library.  Is it possible to just keep files on a playlist and not in the main library?

No, but if you are in the habit of listening to your iPod in Shuffle mode, then set the language files to Skip when shuffling.
To set Skip when shuffling, highlight the track in your iTunes Library and click on File/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling and then Sync the iPod to the Library.
Note that if you select a single track, the Skip when shuffling is a tick-box. But if you select multiple items, the Skip when shuffling option becomes a drop-down menu where you choose either Yes or No. Even if that option says Yes, change it to No and back to Yes. This ensuures that all tracks you have highlighted are set to Yes.
Another option is to create a separate Playlist that includes everything except the language files. This will require you to manually add any new songs each and every time you buy new songs.
    Alternatively;
you could even create a Smart Playlist to automatically add all the new music but to exclude the language files. To do that, set the Genre of the language files to "Language" (or similar) and then:
Make sure you are looking at your entire Music Library, not just one part of it or a Playlist.
    Click on File/New Smart Playlist
In the line that appears, change "Artist" to Media Kind (from the drop-down menu)
The next two boxes should now show is and Music. If not, change them so that they do.
Click on the + box at the end of that line (this will add a new line)
Change "Artist" to Genre (from the drop-down menu)
Change "Contains" to is not (from the drop-down menu)
In the last (empty) box, type in Language or whatever genre you have given to the language files. Make sure it is typed in exactly as it is in the files.
    Click OK
Rename the Smart Playlist as you want.
    Sync the iPod with iTunes.
Note that this Smart Playlist will automatically add any new music to it. You do not need to add new songs yourself!

  • The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library.

I recently tried to look up my pictures on my time machine back up on an external hard drive. As soon as I try to open it I get the following message.
"The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library."
I have tried holding down the option key but still couldn't few the photos.
I want to know if there is anyway I can actually view these photos. I have over 85gbs of photos on the hard drive.  I have tried googling and looking at pervious forums with the same problem but nothing is working.
    Please help!

Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu. Search for "Restore items backed up with Time Machine."

  • IPhoto 11 - keeping pictures in an album but not the main library

    Hi there,
My main iPhoto library contains all my images which I am happy with, I have created another folder so I can put all my videos in there to separate them from the main library.
However whenever I delete the video from the main library it also disappears from the album which I have placed it in if that makes sense?
My aim is having an album just for the videos and using the 'library' for all my photos.
Is there any way to stop this happening? Or will I have to create two albums i.e. one for images and the other for videos and the library will have everything?

iPhoto works on a Library principle.
Every time - photo or video - is in the Library.
Albums are a subset of the Library.
This is similar to iTunes, where every song is in the Library and every Playlist is a subset of the Library.
So, you cannot have something in an album that is not in the Library.

  • Selecting pictures from the same folder in the main library

    Hello,
    Still related to the folders.
Is there a way to select, from the main library, all the pictures that belong to one given folder?
That would be usefull to me if I want to make a slide show and find a specific picture and want to get all the other pictures from this given folder but without leaving the main library window. That would allow me to select pictures from different folders without going to each folder everytime...
If this question makes any sense and you have the answer you're really good!
Sorry english is not my native language!
    Thanks in advance.
    Have a nice day
    JP

    Hi jpalbouy,
Before I can answer, I need to know what you mean by folders.
Do you mean an Album in the source column?
Do you mean a folder you created in the source column?

  • I want all of my music in the main library of iTunes, how do I do this?

I want all of my music in the main library of iTunes, how do I do this?

Select the Music source, switch to Songs view, press CTRL+A to select all files, right-click, click on Consolidate Files. Any files that were stored outside the iTunes Media folder will be copied into it. You need to manually delete the originals. Or use my script ConsolidateByMoving to move files into the media folder without leaving duplicates behind.

We have some personal pictures of our kids birth and want to create a private folder and place the photos in that folder and then delete them from the main library. So when we show friends etc our photo collection they don't see these private photos.

    Thanks for any help!

    Steve, it sure is possible.
First gather up all the photos and put them in an album, then Share>export the album to newly created folder on the desktop.
    close iPhoto.
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto. Keep the Option key held down until you see a message window.
Choose to create a new library and name the library.
Now import the album on the desktop.
to switch between libraries use the Option key at at launch.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer, highlight it, then clcik the "open" button.

A number of extensions can cause that problem, you'll need to do a little troubleshooting to find out which extension is causing that to happen for you.

This is the iPod touch forum. You seem to have an iBook problem and can't understnd your problem with that.
I do not understand what you mean by page and what you mean by library.

  • Trouble getting new computer to be the main library w/o clearing everything

I got a new computer with Windows 7 on it...my other one is a Vista (which has the main iTunes library)...I can get Home Group to work for the two computers...but I am having trouble getting the new computer to be my new main iTunes library...it says I have to transfer purchases or clear everything...I just want to move things from my iPod to the new computer's iTunes...must it be so difficult??? I don't see why this must be so hard...the computers both have authorization.

iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • How can I delete the titles of no longer subscribed podcasts from the iTunes library?

I am using iTunes 11.0.3 on my Macbook Pro. In the Podcasts tab of the iTunes library, the left panel has the titles of podcasts you have downloaded, and the right panel shows all the episodes of the selected podcast. If you unsubscribe to a podcast and delete all the episodes, the title still appears in the left panel, and it causes a great deal of clutter. I have tried everything I can think of to delete those titles without success. Has anyone got the solution?
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, John. That was my first instinct, but that menu contains no delete option. This is the menu that pops up:
