Podcasts, iTunes U in iOS 5: Music vs Video

There appears to be some unintended mixup in iOS 5's splitting the original iPod app into Music and Video.  Now video podcasts go to Video, and voice only podcasts go to "Music."  Whilest looking for voice podcasts in "Music" app is merely a semantic mismatch, a more comic mixup is that iTunes U, which contains mostly video content, is still availble in the Music app, the only iPod offspring that allows users to "Configure" home buttons. (To invoke, go to "More" if iTunes U is not in your home screen.)
Both apps invoke the same "Store" interface, but the "Library" button is context aware - meaning you can download audio-only content from Video app and video content from Music app, even though you may not find the content you've just downloaded when you click the "Library" button.
Anyone else find the new Video app's navigation limiting?  It sports a single vertical linear list in the order of Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, and iTunes U.  If you have a long list of movies/TV shows, it'll take you quite some sweat to get to Podcasts and iTunes U.  Whereas you can still access iTunes U via Music app, you're out of luck for video podcasts, because the Podcast list in Music app displays voice-only podcasts only.

Having the same issue except for the crashes. Everything seems to be working, just not the way it used to. The enhanced podcasts were great, the ones that I subscribed to changed the backgrounds often and linked to other sites and gave some great info. Now... Nothing!
I have been reading that everyone is having issues with podcasts and the button to get new episodes, or whatever it was called, and this may just be another glitch. I sure wish they could fix it. I listen to podcasts more that I ever listened to music.

  • ITunes automatically checks Manually manage music and videos????

Every time I connect my Classic or Nano, iTunes automatically checks Manually manage music and videos. If you uncheck this option it wants to erase your iPod, Classic or Nano and create a new sync which takes hours.
So to be specific. When start the first sync I have the following checked:
Open iTunes when this iPod is connected.
    Enable Disk use.
After doing a 2 hour sync and then reconnecting, it has automatically checked Manually manage music and videos. When you uncheck it wants to reload your entire Library. Which takes 2-3 hours. The problem with Manually..... it doesn't sync new additions to the Library.
I am starting to become an Apple hater. They are going the way of Microsoft. You call Apple tech support and they want to charge you per incident. And Lion is a disaster. I was an early convert to Apple and now I am getting really cranky.

I was thinking the other way.
Checking Manually manage Music and Videos does not erase the content (even though it says it will).

  • ITunes automatically unchecked "Manually manage music and videos"

Hey all, hope everything is well.
I have a frustrating problem that I don't know how to fix on my own.
So last night when I plugged my iPhone in to put some songs on, everything worked normally. I was able to edit the info and all that jazz, but today when I plugged my iPhone in...I noticed that I cannot add/delete/edit any of my music. I went into the Summary tab and seen that the "Manually manage music and videos" box is unchecked?! When I check it and apply, it says my iPhone is synced with another computer and all my data will be erased. I have spent 2 days doing album art and editing every single track info and the reason why it p*sses me off is because all of the edited songs on my iPhone are not edited in my iTunes library, so...if I do erase and sync, I would have to do everything over again for approx. 780 songs.
I guess it`s kind of my bad that I didn`t do all the editing/album art in the library THEN put the songs on my phone.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone maybe knows why iTunes decided to uncheck  "Manually manage music and videos" for me.
    Thanks and take care!

You should be able to extract any media not in your library with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings.
If your IPhone has previously been managed from this library then application settings and data should be alright.   If you transfer any missing purchases into the library with iTunes,  recover any other media using third party tools and then backup the device you should be able to immediately restore the device from the backup to make sure that the device and library are properly paired.

  • Itunes will not play my music nor videos

I recently updated to itunes about a week ago..and for some odd reason my itunes will not play any music that is located in the itunes music library.. I un-installed it, then re-installed it..and it still did not play the music.. I believe it has affected my windows media player on my computer as well. I was wondering if anyone had any information or a solution to my problem??
    thanks

You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.

  • ITunes 11 will not play music or video. Stuck at 0:00

Randomly, when I try to play either music or video in iTunes 11.0.5, the status of the interface goes to 'playing', but nothing ever plays - both video and music are stuck at 0:00.  Starting and stopping doesnt help and now my 87Gb of m4a lossless encoding is useless.
Any ideas how to kick start iTunes into playing?
Its also affecting quick-view in the Finder... perhaps a Mac OS X bug too??? Im running 10.8.4 on a MBP.
    Regards,
    Andy

This could be a problem with iTunes or QuickTime Player plug-ins, try testing with iTunes in Safe Mode by holding Option and Command while launching iTunes.

  • Itunes deleted most of my music and videos!

    HELP!
I was watching a movie in my itunes last night. It froze so I re-started my computer then iTunes started re-opening. It started by "verifying" something and I stupdily stopped it. Once iTunes finally opened it had deleted all my movies and most of my music (about 40G worth of music...)
The other weird thing is that my HD still has the same amount of space used on it.
    Can anyone help?
I'd rather not re-load all my CD's again

Had you not synced your iPod the user tip Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device might have been more useful, but there are links in there which should point you in the direction of your purchase history.
This migrate iTunes library post gives you an idea of what you should have done. For the future keep a backup of your library and never delete the old library until you've proved the new one is working properly on the new computer.
If you've not done too much with the drive on the old computer since you deleted the media, then an undelete tool might recover most of them. FreeRecover looks like a promising free tool for this... Select the drive, use the options to get file paths and check file integrity, then, presumably, you can restore anything that has been deleted from the iTunes folder that has a good integrity score.

  • IPod on my computer but not itunes, and i cant transfer music or videos

Hi, here is the problem, i just got my new 30g video ipod and for awile i couldnt get music on it, but i go that figured out. Then i wanted to put videos on there and when i went to plug it in it wasnt there, so my ipod doesnt show up on itunes and sometimes when i plug it in it freezes itunes, one time i did get it to show up but it wouldnt let me transfer for some reason.
Now ive tried the 5 r's and everything else so could u please help me on this i cant stand it any more.
    Aaron

If you're running windows that the reason. I've had the same prob. Try disconnected your iPad and then open iTunes when your iPad isn't connected and make sure it's not bombed out then close it. Then try putting it back in and take the prices slowly do
Nt. rush it to open that mostly when I get the problem. If that's doesn't work reboot your iPad while holding down both the sleep/wake and home button for 10 seconds then switch it back on normally after about 5 seconds

  • Playing iTunes or Sony Connect music and videos on the 8820

How can I move iTunes or Sony Connect music and videos to the 8820?  I've got Desktop Manager 4.3 software, but the only way I can get the iTunes music (video won't copy) to the 8820 is to first burn it to a cd and then "import" with the version of Roxio on Desktop Manager and then copy it via Roxio onto the 8820.  In the process I lose the music track descriptive information (artist/track).  Also using this process I've now got 2 copies of the same songs on my desktop plus a cd I can't seem to add songs to.  What is the most efficient and effective way to do this?
I have not tried to deal with my Sonny Connect library yet -- any advice on getting those songs onto the 8820?
Also, I have never had an iPod and am new to iTunes -- is there a better music and video service out there?    Preferrably one where it is easy to copy the songs to the 8820 as that is my only portable music device.  Sony's Connect service is out of business so my old ATRAC player is now a portable radio with old songs on it  Thanks.

This post I found & pasted below seems to explain it best - this is only for Ipod (& Ipad?) the iPhone 4 will only let you add from 1 computer supposedly.  Basically IF YOU CHECK THE MANUALLY MANAGE BOX YOU CAN NOT SYNC WITHOUT ERASING AND ADDING, BUT YOU CAN DRAG & DROP FILES TO THE DEVICE INSTEAD
What is the "Manually Manage Music and Vidios" option on itunes + ipod?
When I connect my ipod on my computer theres this ipod page + 1 of the options is "Manually Manage Music and Videos". What does that do if i select it? The reason I'm asking is that I don't want to mess up my ipod if I do select it. + later I can't change it back. THANKS!

It is the best and easiest way to use your ipod.
When you manually manage your music you choose what to add and delete from the ipod.  You dont have to sync your ipod.
When it is on manual you can use your ipod on as many computers and itunes libraries as you want without losing any music off your ipod.
You just drag and drop the songs, videos and playlists you want from the itunes library to the ipods name.
Right click and delete what you dont want from the main playlists under the ipods name.
Nothing will ever be deleted or added until you direct it and you can safely use it on any computer.
If you click manually manage music nothing will change on your ipod as it is now until you physically add or delete things.
If you resync with an itunes library later, though, you have to be careful because anything not in that itunes library will be deleted off the ipod.  I always keep my ipod manually managed because I use it on several diff computers.
or you just highlight the 20 songs together and drag them in one action
some people are so lazy, lol
    Think if it this way
If it is manually managed and you go to your friends house you can use her itunes library which means basically getting music from any other itunes library you want.  Not just your own.

  • Disappearring music and videos from my iPad

Every since I purchased and downloaded the entire Beattle catalog several days ago, my iPad iTunes has acted up.  Music and videos disappeared from my iPad only to reappear when resyncing.  After my last resync i began  a businss trip without my MBP that I use for syncing. .  As before, my music disappeared and reappeared several times, sometimes partially, sometimes not.  In between I would redownload my music only to have the music reappear with multiple copies.
Now a tv show I purchased from iTunes store several weeks ago and  was watching last night has disappeared.
Any idea what's happening and what the solution is?
And by the way how can you delete music that's in the download queue in tunes on the iPad. Not pause but delete.
    Thanks.

You need to copy everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.
The music sync is one way -computer to ipad.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

I have Mac itunes and a touch 2G.  My wife has Win7 and touch 4G (both iOS 4.2.1). She got a new iphone, I now have her touch 4G, and am trying to sync it to my Mac itunes.  The music and videos sync to the 4G, but apps & podcast will not. All are checked to sync.  During sync, it gets to "determining apps to sync"  then immediately goes to "finished syncing".   No apps or podcasts from my Mac itunes are on the touch 4G.

You can only sync to one iTunes library but you can manage music and videos among different computer/libraries.
It appears that you are trying to sync with a different library.
    - If you want to make the Mac you syncing computer:
--- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by:
    iOS: How to back up
--- Restore the iPod from that backup. Note that synced media like apps and music are not in included in the backup.
