Podcasts, iWeb and the Absence of MobileMe

My iWeb site that was previously hosted by MobileMe is, of course, no more.  I did transfer the site to another host and it is working fine.  Unfortunately, one function that has yet to regain operation is the podcasts that I post to my site being available through the iTunes store.  Anyone have any ideas how I can regain this function?
Regards and Roll Tide!

You should have added the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag to the MobileMe feed while you had the chance. As this is no longer possible, your only option is to email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to transfer iTunes' attentions to the new feed. Give them the iTunes Store URL, and the URLs of both feeds. I can't guarantee they will do this, but they have for others. Unfortunately your existing subscribers won't be notified of the change (as they would have silently been with the redirection tag) so for them it will just stop working.

I have a web site built by Yahoo Web Site Builder which does not have a Mac version, is there any compatability between Iweb and the old Yahoo program? If not how do I clear off the old site so as to re publish with Iweb.

iWeb cannot import published files so you would need rebuild the site.
Yahoo hosting is notoriously poor and their tech support is awful. I would suggest you look for new hosting and start afresh. Some pointers for choosing hosting...

If you do choose to go this route, transfer your domain name registration away from Yahoo to your new host.

  • IWeb and the FTP feature

I try to publish my site but iWeb create a folder on FTP site with the name of my site and put this name folder in the url. I have tried to put the root FTP directory in the Directory/Path of iWeb but it still create that **** folder. What can I do to upload directly in the root folder?
    Thank you

  • Podcasting, iWeb and iTunes Store?

I'm transferring my Rapidweaver site to iWeb because RW screws up the feed xml so that iTunes Store will not read it and update my podcast episodes.
Anyway I just wanted to know (I already have my Podcast registered with iTunes Store) when I add a new podcast to iWeb each week do I have to go File > Submit podcast to iTunes every time (ie; each week when I create a new podcast) ?
Also I noticed the feed RW produces is feed://www.domainname.com/podcasts_files/podcast.xml and iWeb produces feed://www.domainname.com/podcasts_files/rss.xml (ie:same name except ends with rss.xml instead of podcast.xml). Given that I have already registered my Podcast with iTunes how will this change of feed name effect it?
    Thanks

When people subscribe to your RW podcast then they will notice after a while that there are no new podcasts anymore.
So you either have to delete your current podcast from iTunes (Read the manual how to do that) and/or add a new podcast.
There is no need for the iTunes Store to subscribe to a podcast. Just entering (Click on the RSS icon) the new rss feed in iTunes is enough.

  • HD died... how do I get iWeb "See" the existing published MobileMe website

Hard Drive died, lost everything. Apple replaced HD but could not save data on old drive. iWeb thinks it is "new" again and wants to start with a blank site. I have YEARS worth of published blog and content on my MobileMe account. How do I get iWeb to recognize this and not write over it destroying years of work?

Brian ~ With "years of work" at stake, you've probably prudently been regularly running some kind of backup, such as _Time Machine_ or SuperDuper! ...So wherever you've been backing up to, look for iWeb's Domain file — its filename ends in an invisible ".sites", so you could search for that. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • Using 'Multisite for iWeb' and the new iWeb 09

I use multisite for iWeb by Clarkwood software to publish multiple sites I have designed with iWeb. Now that the NEW iWEB 09 has the essentially same ability (to upload/manage multiple iWeb sites) I was wondering if anyone else is using 'Multisite for iWeb' and has ran into any problems when upgrading?
    Thanks!
    -JKP

With the disastrous introduction of iWeb '08, I rebuilt all my websites on new, blank domain files.
I have 26 sites with each domain file in a separate folder. These are kept in a in a folder - iWeb - in a second dock.
I can launch any site with two mouse clicks - far quicker than launching Multisite or iWebsites.
I have dealt with many instances of domain file corruption in this forum and it doesn't seem to matter which method is used - splitting domain files, iWebsites or Multisite.
I followed the advice of Cyclosaurus and Suzanne of 11 Mystics and have had no problems at all.
I'm not throwing any accusations at any of the above methods of handling multiple domains - I'm just not prepared to risk using them.

  • IWeb and the mds process

    Hi everyone,
Every time I use iWeb, the CPU usage goes up extremely high. Using iStat, I've discovered that the mds process is the cause of this. As soon as I close iWeb, the CPU goes back to normal.
I have no idea what the mds process is but iWeb is barely usable at the moment.
I would greatly appreciate any insight as to what the problem (and solution) is.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tobyn.

Tobyn ~ mds appears to stand for _metadata server_ and I think it provides Spotlight with the ability to index file updates in real-time. Why it thinks it needs to run so long when iWeb opens on your Mac, I don't know. While you wait for possible suggestions here, take a look at this thread:

  • IWeb and the Music list ?

Can I put bunch of numbers from my own music as a list...?
Without the picture of image for every song which comes with it ...?
Is this feature possible on the iWeb?
That would be weird if apple doesn't support this for the music writers/composers.

Single song players can take many forms....

Or you can have a jukebox player that uses a playlist....

  • Can use iweb and publish sites without a mobileme account?

I have a old imac and it died and I lost all of my websites and Im afraid that I cant republish the websites without a mobile me account… anyone know what I can do ?

When you 'lost your websites' do you mean you lost the 'Domain' file in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder? iWeb keeps all its information there and if you do not have it you will have to recreate your site from scratch. If this is the case I would most strongly advise not using iWeb - it's not been sold or supported for some time now, and indeed v2 ('08) does not work with Mavericks: v3 may stop working on a future update. There are many other programs for making websites - Everweb is popular and is designed to be very like iWeb, with more facilities.
If you do have the Domain file then you can publish to any website hosting service as outlined by Old Toad. There is a more detailed description of the process for the two different versions here:
    http://wilmut.uk/missing2
However if you are going to use iWeb remember that as I said a future system upgrade may very well break it; and you would find it very difficult to update the site by editing the published pages in the absence of being able to use iWeb and the Domain file.

  • I did the recent update and now itunes no longer works and I get a MobileMe error in Outlook

I can't get Itunes to work since the latest upgrade and I get an error in outlook about MobileMe.   I tried to reinstall Itunes but there is an error thaere and the program aborts.

MobileMe was discontinued at the end of June 2012. The control panel should be removed if still present. See HT2992: MobileMe: Uninstalling the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows for details.

  • Publish iWeb to the iCloud

Anyone who creates websites using iWeb and publishes it to MobileMe needs to let Apple know how important the service is for them. Here is the link to provide feedback. There was no mention of the web publishing service during the iCloud keynote so we need to let them know we want it to continue.

  • IWeb and Gallery

I have posted movies on gallery and set a password. I have then created an iWeb site and protected it with the save password. One of the items on the site is a movie from my gallery. What I find is that to enter the site the password is needed and the same password is needed twice to access the movie. Is there a more user friendly way to do this?

The answer is in the first and second sentence of your post.
iWeb and the web gallery are different entities.
    Solution:
Remove the password of the webgallery.
Hide the gallery from in the webgallery overview.
It takes some mental juggling but in the end it's what you want.
