Podcasts lost with Itunes Upgrade....

I upgraded to latest Itunes this morning .. now I cannot find my podcasts on the Ipod. They seem to have disappeared....
Is this a bug?
Can anyone help? Thanks

Go to your "iTunes Music" folder and find the "Podcasts" folder, then drag the whole folder into iTunes. It should recognize them as podcasts and organize them properly*. You'll have to click the "Subscribe" button for each one, but otherwise you should be fine.
*All of mine dropped in, but the episodes of "This American Life" somehow ended up in two different lists. It looks as though I am subscribed to two different podcasts with the same title. This is mildly inconvenient, and if anyone had a simple solution for it, I would appreciate it, but since I have all of the files, I'm not too concerned.

  • 20gb iPod dock won't update podcasts, playlists with iTunes 7.02

My 20gb ipod with dock won't sync properly with iTunes 7. Not all of the podcasts will transfer from itunes to my ipod and my playlist with podcasts can't be updated. Any ideas what might be happening? It only started when I updated to iTunes 7.02
imac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I think the problem is more of a corrupted library data file than the actual program. Ok, so the update/grade to 7.0.X problaby caused the corruption, but after starting over with a new iTunes Library (data, not XML) file, everything seems to be working fine with 7.0.2. My whole story is below:
Ok after my early elation of having my ipods up and running (and not useless pieces of expensive junk), I ran into more problems when trying to sync. It seemed like the ipod was locking up and when I tried to eject, then iTunes would lock up. I tried with my current 7.0.2 version. I rolled back to 6.0.5. I could add some music without any problems, except that I lost all my playlists since I had to start with a fresh library. So I tried to use my most recent library file (obviously that didn't work since it was in a newer version format). So I went back to my last 6.0 library (in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder). That's when all the frustration started. My iPod kept locking up (meaning an erase (sometimes with zeroing out data - a 2 hour process!), restore, update, and crossing of fingers). I tried this process with several different iTunes libraries under 6.0.5 and the result was always the same: a lot of cussing on my part. So I figured, what the heck lets try going back to 7.0.2, it can't get any worse than it is right now, I mean broken is broken, regardless of the iTunes version. I tried the sync manually, no playlists, fresh version of iTunes library, fresh iPod (erased & restored). Those songs transferred ok and speedily. So I tried more songs and then the entire library (still no playlists). That worked well. So then I tried adding a playlist. It worked too. More playlists, still working. The only thing that I haven't done is: updating podcasts, and I stopped the "download artwork" process (kind of pointless on a monochrome iPod).
Hope my story helps. Other than the extremely irritating loss of time (and the new, colorful vocab my 2 year old has), the loss of my playlists isn't too major: they needed a reorg anyway. But for serious iPoders (DJ's, Nike+ users, etc.) this loss could be a very big deal.
Apple should have tested more thoroughly. Their haste to counteract the fair share hack, has caused more problems with the majority of legal users, than it solved with the minority of hackers.

  • TS1717 are there problems with iTunes upgrading from Vista to Windows 7?

are ther problems upgrading iTunes from Vista to Windows 7?

The best method is to use Windows Easy Transfer first to backup all your data, and do custom clean install. And install all your apps and drivers afterwards.
Yes it should work. Make sure you are ready, and have all the latest drivers and applications ahead of time.
There are some "gottchas" with the upgrade from Vista.

  • Why did my podcasts disappear with iTunes 11 upgrade?

I had a lot of podcasts [before upgrading to 11], and only one batch remains in the podcasts link (of which there are 2 for some reason in the left hand column). Where did the others go? Can i get them back?

Just restore the /Music/iTunes/ folder from your most recent backup.

  • Album Artwork Lost with iTunes 9 – Solution Found

When upgrading to iTunes 9 I lost some, but not all, the album artwork for files I had made from vinyl at 24bits/48kHz. I have since recovered this lost artwork by converting the affected AIFF files to WAVE using Max 0.9.1 and then converting them back to AIFF – the artwork suddenly reappears! Previously if the affected files had been imported in to another iTunes library the metadata was lost – now it sticks.
If your having problems with with AIFF files then I suggest converting to WAVE and then back to AIFF.

I am having exactly the same problem with adding artwork, and I see from browsing the discussions that alot of other people are finding the same issue, but there are no answers! If no one knows what Apple have done to us, or how to get around it, could Apple moderators please let us know what is going on?

  • Totally lost with iTunes 11 . . . . can't import songs from my Mac etc.?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion a couple of months ago and have just opened iTunes 11.
I seem to have a handful of items there but cannot remember installing them.
I have tried importing tunes from my computer by going to File>Add to Library and also dragging and dropping but nothing seems to happen.
I have also read that you can get the old iTunes look back by clicking the button at the top left of the interface and selecting as appropriate but the only button seems to be the one labeled "Music" by default which has nothing useful underneath it.
These are 3 of the rather useless layouts I can access.
Is there something wrong with my iTunes installation or what am I doing wrong?

It appears that one of the reasons I could not import songs is because iTunes 11 only seems to recognise .mp3 or .aac
I had been trying to import .caf and .aif
The old version used to recognise most audio file types and would also convert mot types to another ........... so long as they were .mp3, .aif or .caf

  • All files and more lost with software upgrade

    hello
my in-laws called me in a panic yesterday. they used the software upgrade to install 10.5.2 and could not find their entourage mail program anymore, it was gone, so were all the files in their document folder. i connected through ichat to their computer (had to set up the accounts again, as the old ones were lost) and yes, it is all gone, though documents they saved in the applications folder are still there.
i called tech support for them and was told that programs that are left open during installation will be deleted. isn't it impossible to continue installation until programs are quit? why would all their files be gone from the document folder? also gone were their ichat ids and safari bookmarks. it felt like an erase and install but all they did was the software install which i assume is a default installation?
no, no back ups for them. they just recently acquired this computer on our recommendation that they would have less trouble with a mac than a pc with vista. but now this.
they will be talking with tech support soon, but i have little faith in them, so i am asking here. what could have happened?
    thanks,
    marianna

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
One thing which may have happened is this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107854
However, this is an important lesson for everyone. It is not a question of if data will be lost, but when.
See my FAQ* on backing up as to other possible recovery strategies, and make sure everyone knows never, ever install an update without backing up first. Regardless of the cause, data will eventually get lost, and updates are often the most frequent events where they happen as they change the system much like changing the guts of an automobile.

  • Podcast bookmark with ITUNES 7.0.1

Since I installed the new ITUNES 7.0.1 I have a small problem with the podcasts. After watching a video podcast the podcast will show as "seen" in the IPOD (whithout the blue dot). Then, if I connect the IPOD to the ITUNES to update and when I look at the same podcast in the IPOD and the blue dot is back...! This makes it very difficult to know which podcast I have seen already and which not.
    Anyone else has this problem?

Anyone else has this problem? Thanks.

  • Are actual music files altered with itunes upgrade?

Does upgrading itunes to 6.0.3 from 4.7 change the music files in the library? I want to eliminate a bunch of podcasts from my backup copy. It was made when itunes was 4.7. I know the iTunes 4 Music Library data file was updated - but are the music files the same?
here's what I'm thinking of doing. Erase all the iTunes music > [selected podcast folders] then finder copying the current crop of podcasts folders.
Does anyone see any potential problems like the podcasts won't play if I downgrade to 6.0.1 or 4.7?

I can't answer regarding podcasts and downgrading, but I know that some of the earliest songs that I've purchased still show FairPlay version 1. As far as any of the other data involved, I'm betting that the song files themselves aren't modified, but your iTunes xml file is.

  • Trouble with itunes upgrade I receive an error message problem with windows installer package

I am trying to upgrade itunes.  I am running windows vista 64.  Everytime I try to upgrade I get an error that says Problem with windows installer package.  Anyone know how to fix this?

    No drivers in LowerFilters.
    No drivers in UpperFilters.
Failed loading CD / DVD drives, error -43. Try doing a repair install on iTunes from the “Add or Remove Programs” control panel.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Trouble with itunes upgrade and Vista

I upgraded to 8.0 last night. The upgrade seemed to go as normal, but all I have is a blank itunes icon on my desktop which doesn't work. I reinstalled and still the same thing. Any suggestions?

This happens to me every single time I upgrade iTunes since as far back as version 6.x I think and its happened on both Vista and XP PC's.
Every single time I upgrade it does something with the desktop and quick launch icons to where they get "blanked" out and are no longer valid. This forces me to re-copy the "Start Menu\Programs\iTunes" shortcuts (that are created by default with the installer) back to the desktop and quick launch every single time I upgrade.
Does anyone know why this happens? The iTunes installation is the only program Ive ever seen this issue with and its really gotten pretty annoying.
    Thanks a bunch!!

  • All Outlook Express email lost with IOS upgrade

I upgraded iTunes to the latest version and upgraded IOS from 4 to 6. Now Pocket Earth maps works on my iPod, but my Outlook Express email on my PC has been completely destroyed. All my emails and contacts are gone!!! What can I do? Is there a solution other than trying to restore my PC to an earlier date and forgetting about the maps for my iPod. (They aren't that useful anyway.) Please help me if you can.

Thanks, but I was able to get all my email data back. I took my PC to Office Depot and their computer guy said it was a user profile error. He changed my identity back to main identity in Outlook Express and that fixed my problem. It cost me $30 but at least it's fixed.

  • CD and DVD lost with Itunes loaded

Once I loaded the iTunes software, I could load music to the iPod, but I lost use of both my CD and DVD drives for all other programs. I cannot just play a CD or watch a DVD. Anyone found a fix? Thanks

some preliminary questions before proceeding, Rachel.
have the optical drives vanished altogether from "My Computer"? if so, can you check your Device manager for us? right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" and click "Device Manager".
are there warning/alert messages showing up in Device Manager next to your optical drives? if so, are they citing code 41?

  • A Different Error With iTunes Upgrade

I downloaded the latest iTunes update last week (or maybe the week before) and opened for the first time today. There was an odd generic Windows icon on the desktop labelled iTunes (in addition to the old one), so I clicked. Result was this dialog box: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
I then clicked the regular iTunes icon on the desktop. It offered me a license for the new version, and I clicked "Agree". But it also changed the icon to the same generic Windows icon.
After I closed iTunes I found neither icon on the desktop would open iTunes again - both pop the dialog box with the message above.
iTunes is still available through the Start menu. But every time I use that to open iTunes, ANOTHER generic Windows icon is placed on the desktop that again issues that error message. Wassup?

I think I have a problem with quicktime. I cannot unistall it because it is not showing up in my Add/Remove programs list. I have tried to reinstall itunes several times in order for the program to run its "repair" feature.
let's try the following procedure with that.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
does an itunes 7.0.2.16 install go through properly after doing that?

  • Can't download with itunes upgrade

I just upgraded my itunes to the new version, and I can't download open source material any more- it just opens it in quicktime instead of storing it. Is these a setting I can change to fix it?

What iPhone do you have? You can check in settings>>general>> about.
If you have a 3G you cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1. The 3G is over 4 years old an was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. You need the latest ios to run the latest versions of some apps. If you have a 3GS you can update.
If your phone is not responding, reset it by pressing and holding down both the home button ad lock/ sleep button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
