Podcasts not in Podcast Selection

When I upgraded iTunes from 6 to 7, my podcasts in iPod moved from podcasts to albums and artists although they are under podcasts in iTunes. Nothing is under podcasts on my iPod until I go all the way from menu to music to genres to podcasts, where it says artists at top and has other music mixed in. Otherwise it is mixed up with my other music categories which is also in a state of disorder. Is there any way to get only the podcasts in the podcast category from music? How do I organize this mess? Thanks for any help.

It must be a setting in iTunes or on iPod. On my iPOd podcasts are stored in music/podcasts/podcast name.
The files on my hard drive are in iTunes/podcasts/podcst name.

  • Podcasts not in podcasts folder

Does any one know how to manually sync the podcasts on itunes to the podcasts folder in iPod.

Not sure what you mean by "manually sync" ... you either *manually manage* or sync (as in automatically synchronize so that iTunes and the iPod are the same). The best way to manage Podcasts (so that you don't spend too much time sorting them out) is to allow iTunes to automatically copy them onto the iPod using sync . You can still choose which Podcast programmes and which episodes to sync (see below). I've given pointers (below) for both methods.
When your iPod is connected to your computer select the iPod icon (below devices ) and then select the Podcasts tab.
_To manually manage Podcasts_ , iTunes Help states: *To add podcasts to your iPod manually, deselect Sync and drag podcasts or podcast episodes from your Podcasts playlist to the iPod icon in the iTunes window (below Devices).* I think, by Podcasts Playlist, it means the library window. I don't use this method which is why I'm not clear about it.
_To sync Podcasts_ : make sure the sync is selected and then use the drop-down menu to choose which episodes (all, all unplayed, all new - and so on) and the *All Podcasts* button under that to choose which Podcast programmes you want on your iPod.
I use *sync all episodes* of *all podcasts* , which means that I don't spend any time sorting them out. I simply look in Podcasts on the iPod and anything with a blue spot means I haven't started listening to it yet.

  • Enhanced Podcast Not Showing Podcast Track

I created a number of enhanced podcasts using Garageband 09. All of them display the podcast track (artwork) just fine in iTunes. Only some of them display correctly in QuickTime. I was using QT to export them as 3gp files, but some of them show audio only. The one's that show correctly list both AAC, stereo and Apple Photo JPEG in the movie inspector info. Those that don't show correctly (audio only) only have AAC stereo info in the movie inspector. They were created with identical processes via Garageband 09. Any ideas?

I had forgotten that these files were actually duplicates made in iTunes. In iTunes I had a bunch of enhanced podcast files on a particular album. I needed to use some of the files on a different album I was creating. I attempted to not alter the first album by selecting the create AAC version under the Advanced menu. I took the newly created podcasts and did a mass information change to the new album name. It was in this process that the JPEG was lost.

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.

  • My ipod classic will not play podcasts

I have a 160GB iPOD classic and have been syncing successfully music, podcasts, photos and videos for many years. Originally formatted on my PC, for the last year I have only been syncing on my MAC but I haven't re-formatted the iPOD and it didn't seem to mind. A couple of weeks ago the iPOD decided it would not play any video podcasts (radio podcasts are fine). I select it to play, and after a second or two it goes back to the menu. I have completely cleared the iPOD and restored to factory settings. After re-syncing it still does not work. Movies (typically MP4 conversions from DVD and the web) all play fine. I have done this on the MAC (factory reset, re-sync) and also on the PC (factory re-set, re-sync). Makes no difference. Today I deselected all podcasts, synced, then just selected a new video podcast (a TED video as it happens) but still no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think I have figured out the problem. Call it "Curse of the iCloud." In the settings I had "download most recent episode." That may have been the only one actually on my computer. The rest were hiding in the Cloud. The computer showed a couple of hundred episodes, long since sent packing but still hiding. If I click on the iCloud symbol it brings the actural podcast to my computer where it can sync to the ipod. I didn't really want 250 old podcast taking up space, but of course they aren't really taking up my space, only Apples, and what Apple wants, Apple gets, and to **** with the rest. I suppose I should have known all of this, but I didn't, and trying to find it out is somewhat daunting. Anyway, I've reset to download all future episodes, gone back  reloaded ones I hadn't listened to, and will see if that works. To quote that distinguished techie, Ricky Recardo, "We need some better 'splaining around here.

  • Some Podcasts not working since upgrading to 1.2

Ever since I upgraded my IPOD to version 1.2, I have found that some podcasts which I subscribe to no longer work. It downloads and transfers to my IPOD OK, but when I go to play it my IPOD shuts down then eventually restarts. So far it seems to happen with KCRW's the Treatment, Creative Screenwriting & WFUV podcasts. I know I could probably restore it back to the previous version but I'd rather not as I have already paid for a game which I know only works with the new functionality (plus I like playing it). Anyone else found this?

There's another thread about this somewhere - many people have had this problem. I've had it with the Creative Screenwriting podcasts, which are the only ones to which I subscribe.
The thread proposed a workaround - start the podcast not at the beginning but one second in. You have to select the podcast, then I think do a Get Info or something - there's some way to find Options, then Start Time, then input 1 or 2 seconds in (with the CS Podcasts, this is fine, since Jeff tends to yakk on for at least two minutes before the interviews begin!)
I've not yet tried it, but it seems to have solved problems on the other thread, accepted as a workaround until Apple fixes it.

  • ITunes 7 attempting to sync all Podcast episodes regardless of selection

I don't know if it's just me, but iTunes 7 seems to be ignoring which podcast episodes I have selected to sync and which I haven't, instead attempting to sync them all then erroring. I can get it to work if I only sync new episodes, but I like to keep favorites of previous 'casts as well. Is this an annoying functionality change, a bug, or did I just miss a change in how to achieve my previous configuration?
*Also wanted to add that this now removes partially played podcasts since they're no longer "unplayed", and the "10 most recent/unplayed" options means I can't load whole podcast books anymore.

I've got a separate thread running on this, which Derek also replied on (thanks for posting in both, Derek):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=637811&tstart=0
The solution Mark found is not working for me. After disabling "manually manage" to enable "sync checked", and then re-enabling "manually manage", it at first appears like "sync checked" will stay enabled. But after hitting the Apply button, "sync checked" turns off again.

  • Podcasts not listed in podcast directory

When I download a podcast, they now seem to go to the main music folder and not the podcast folder on my iPod. Any ideas as to what happened? Thanks
    Gateway   Windows XP

Number next to podcasts is the number of unplayed episodes in library.
Blue dot next to podcast name indicates latest episode for that podcast is unplayed.
Played status changes as soon as play starts.
Play count changes at end of track playing.
Selecting podcast in left pane shows podcast list in right pane as you know. Click on blue triangle to left of podcast name to expand list to see individual episodes.

  • Played Podcasts not deleted...

I'm trying to understand what's going on here: I subscribe to several video and audio podcasts, including TED talks. I have the settings set for the default... when a new one is available, download the latest. Keep only the unplayed podcasts. All seems fine. I watch a podcast on my iPad or listen on my iPhone and with the next sync, it disappears from the device and shows as played in iTunes. I always assumed that unchecking the little box in the iTunes podcasts window would mean they would be eliminated from the computer. Not so. Looking in the iTunes Music/Podcasts folder on the Mac, I've just realized the podcast stays in iTunes. And in the case of TED talks, a LOT of them are held in iTunes. So to eliminate them (and get the hard drive space back) do I have to delete them manually? And, by the way, then what does that little checkbox do really?
Thanks for any explanations, suggestions, or help!

this worked for me until 10.1. Now played podcasts are no longer deleted from itunes.
In a prior version there was a bug where you can to select only the individual podcast episodes and not the podcast name, then you could also select "allow auto delete". That doesn't seem to fix it for 10.1

  • Podcasts Not Showing in Playlists

    Hi All,
I recently upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPhone 3GS and iTunes 10.7.0.21.  I have my podcasts divided into two playlists (one for work and another for when I'm in the car) that I can easily select and shuffle.  Now after these updates, those playlists are showing under the Music app, but they're empty.  And the individual podcasts are showing under the new Podcasts app... but not organized in their playlists!  So it looks like I can no longer play podcasts in playlists and have to manually select each podcast after the last.  This is pretty annoying.
Is there any way to fix this?  Or will I have to manually "rip" each individual podcast and copy back to iTunes as an mp3 so that it's recognized as "music" and play in a proper playlist?  That's probably more work than it's worth ... please tell me there's a simple way to keep enjoying podcasts in playlists.
    Thanks!

OK, here's what worked for me. I deleted the new podcast app, and the new itunesU one as well for good measure. I then did a reboot of my phone, and resynced it to itunes.
After doing that my music app once again had the 'podcast' option for playing podcasts, and my podcast playlists were filled in and playable.
They should issue a warning when their 'new' updates take away old features. It looks like they simply figured not enough people would notice, and were playing the odds. I was excited about the podcast app being able to download podcasts without a sync, but using playlists is even more important to me.

  • Podcast not showing all the episodes in my feed

When i created my podcast i think i selected to only keep the latest 10 episodes by mistake. How could i correct this without deleting my current podcast and resubmitting a new feed to itunes?
    http://construct.wickedbad.net/archives/category/mixes/jaime-le-dubstep/feed
right now its showing episodes 44 and up. i'd like it to start at 1 and keep them all.
    Thanks for the help.
    Marc

iTunes is indeed using the second feed you list but this immediately redirects to the first feed when you enter the URL in a browser. Presumably you have a redirect in place on the server? There are 115 episodes in the Store, and though I didn't count the ones in the feed they seem to match. So it all seems to be working and you could probably just leave it alone - since you have added episodes to the feed and iTunes has (presumably) picked then all up, the redirect seems to be working there OK. (Next time you add an episode to the feed, make sure it does indeed appear in the Store - after a couple of days - and when subscribing - this latter is immediate).
If you really want to change iTunes to the feed directly you are going to have to go through a bit of a process:
    1. Copy the feed at http://construct.wickedbad.net/feed/podcast to the other location at
    http://construct.wickedbad.net/archives/category/mixes/jaime-le-dubstep/feed
    2. Add the redirect tag to this copy feed as indicated here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#changing
    3. Remove the server redirect.
    4. Leave the copy feed in place until iTunes has swapped over (check this by subscribing from the Store page, clicking the line for your podcast (not an episode) and clicking the 'i' button at the right-hand end.

  • Media Kind "Podcast" not available

With iTunes 8 I could finally set my audiobooks to "Media Kind: Audiobook", so that they will show up in my "Audiobooks" folder and no longer in "Music".
But there are still other media items that are in wrong folders:
    1) Audio Podcasts in the "Music" folder
    2) Video Podcasts in the "Movies" folder
I am not able to select "Media Kind: Podcast" for this item because it is simply not an option.
Also the method of setting the "Genre" to Podcast does not help, as so often tried by others already.
Is there any solution to this problem?
    Message was edited by: xenesthis

Thank you for your suggestion, Katrina.
I tried the program and found several hidden iTunes tags that cannot be accessed on iTunes itself. I tried to set the value of one of the older podcast episodes to the value that the new one had but it did not work. This whole issue is simply a pain in the butt, and you are right, I should not have to use a third party program in order to get the older episodes into the same podcast folder as the new ones.
iTunes needed 8 versions to finally make it possible to tag files as "Audiobook" in iTunes itself (although there is still one flaw: every time you import the files anew you have to tag them again as "Audiobook" because iTunes does not remember).
I hope it doesn't take another 8 versions for adding "Podcast" as a "Media Kind" option so that I can have finally all my podcast episodes in one place.
I will definitely send feedback to Apple about this issue.

  • IPhone not display podcasts from iTunes playlist

I have a Smart Playlist created in iTunes containing podcasts, selected by intelligent criteria of my choosing.
If I sync an old iPod Touch with iOs 6.1.6,  I can see the playlist w/o any problems.
If I sync a new iPod Nano, I can see the playlist w/o any problems.
If I sync a brand new iPhone 6,  it creates an empty playlist on the phone, and thrusts all the podcasts over to Podcasts, where they are clumped by podcast source, in alphabetical order.  The problems with the Podcast App have been widely reported, and I choose not to use it, let alone listen to podcasts in alphabetical order.  I would simply like to hear a stream of the podcasts according to the playlist I created.  I didn't even mention the playlists that mix podcasts and music (sorted by least recently played) which is flatly the single reason I became a devout Apple fanatic.
Q: are there any workarounds to get a playlist I created to appear on a modern iPhone?

I've just spent almost half a day to try to get iTunes to transfer new music rather than replace it and delete from my iPhone. I gave up and used CopyTrans Manager. Sooooo much easier! I just created a folder on my desktop, copy and pasted music from iTunes library and dragged the folder to my phone. Itunes so badly designed - should be simple to add rather than replace. I don't know anyone who would want to replace rather than add data - it's just illogical. Anyway, rant over, good luck and I hope this helps

  • Podcast not playing in browser

    Hello,
It seems I am not alone in this predicament.
    Specs:
    Server 10.7.2/XeonQuad2.8/8Gig RAM
My podcasts will show up in the podcast wiki list, but when clicked on, will not display video. Both Mac or PC, using Chrome. Firefox, Safari or IE9.  On the Windows side it will display a QuickTime logo in the play window, on a Mac the play window is gray, waited for 5 minutes but doesn't load.
Interestingly enough the podcasts will play on the server itself, Firefox only not Safari, someone explain that one?...
I have successfully deployed a workflow (PodCast Composer) which is supposed to:
    write to a folder
    publish to the library
    publish to a wiki
So far it does nothing but add it to the wiki.
I have used Podcast Capture and PodCast Publisher to publish podcasts.  My user is the admin user and I have tried a non-admin user as well.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am having the same issue. Podcasts are veiwable in the Podcasts section of the Wiki by the selected group in server.app (Anyone, Authorized Users, Podcast Owners) however they will only play via the browser if the "Anyone" group is selected in server.app. Even the Administrator account cannot access the play the contant in a web browser when anything other than the "Anyone" group is selected in server.app.
Another correlation I have noticed with this issue is that the rss feed will become disabled (exclimation point next to the heading) when access in server.app is set to anything other than "Anyone".
Frustrating as we would like to open the service up to be accessible remotely without the use of VPN but with sensitive content in our podcasts we cannot currently limit access to authorized users or groups.
Is this a misconfiguration problem or a bug? I know of many instituations and companies that depend heavily on the Podcast features of OS X server and this seems like a substantial problam.
    Configuration:
Homgeneous environment with 10.7.4 Server with 10.7.4 clients
DNS and Open DIrectory hosted on the same hardware as the podcast server.
