Podcasts play for 10 sec then implode
This morning when I came in Autoupdate had a 51.4mb Quicktime upgrade waiting for me. So I told it to go ahead and install. Now when I play a podcast (audio or video), after 10 or so seconds it goes poof! and disappears. I've been sending in the error reports, but would like to get this fixed.
So far I've rebooted many times. Repaired drive permissions. Deleted iTunes and reinstalled a fresh copy downloaded from Apple.com. And, of course, cursed and swore a lot. Radio streams are working. I have no MP3s on my system to test them out.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Just bear in mind that my knowledge is limited on a Mac.

Further update.
Radio streams are now resulting in a crash. It just takes longer. Also the most recent crash resulted in iTunes reinitializing itself. Meaning, it went through the initial questions it asks the first time you install (about being the default player for internet radio, organizing music folders, etc.)

I would recommend deleting the affected movie from your iPad, and redownloading the movie.

TS2313 My podcasts play for a while then repeat again from begining not downloading correctly
MY podcasts are repeating from the begining after about 15 mins. Then the rest has not downloaded. It also stops and I have to start it again while I am downloading podcasts?
It may be that your hard drive is either failing again or that the hard drive bay SATA cable may need replacing. And if you're getting a "Service Battery" anyway it's probably best to take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and get a free diagnosis and estimate for repair. I would specifically ask that the SATA cable be tested so that you can tick that off the list of culprits.

One mov file plays in Windows Media Viewer in Ext Hd Drv. Imported as Proxy Media into FCPX it plays in both Event and Time Line for 5 seconds, then goes black. No problem with many other mov files in same project. Tried converting this one file into MP4, but produced only pixellated jumble.
Can you open the clip in the QuickTime player? What are the specs shown in the inspector?

I didn't use it for awhile because I couldn't find it ( my fault ;p)
then when I found it , I charged it and it would work fine, then all of a sudden it would blink red on and off really quickly then not work at all! Then I charged it again and it would work fine. That's not normal..is it?

Won"t donload or clear from downloads on phone. Shows it downloaded on laptop, but plays 2 secs. then advances to next song only on laptop. Not shown on phone at all.

I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too. I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network. For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network. I had to wipe my hard drive clean and reload all my programs. After reloading Itunes, I noticed that some songs will not play, they are skipped over, or the songs plays for 1-2 secs then it skips on to next song. Any ideas what I did wrong? All songs played before and some of affected songs are bought, some are my old library I copied off of CDs

I want to Format my Zen Touch and reload the Firmware to start from scratch, but I first want to backup my 28 GBs of MP3 and WMA files. However I noticed that when I transfer the files to my hard dri've, all the ID3 Information is gone. Now adding ID3 info to 28GB of files will take days!
Strange. Did you edit the tag data on the player? If so what happens is the tag data changes are made in the Music Library but not in the files themselves. There's only one way to write the changes back and this involves getting a copy of MediaSource 3. You then transfer the files back to the PC Music Library, and use an update function to update the files (the PC Music Library will have the same tag data as the Music Library on the player). One problem is that MediaSource 3 is very large, and not available from Creative as a download. I can try and get a copy to you if you can't find it elsewhere. -
Has anyone had this problem? With earbuds connected the ipod keeps turning itself off. I then have to turn it on and it will play for another 60 sec and shut off.

Lagging - Music plays for 5 sec., then stop for 10 sec.???
I bought the AE last week and it worked fine for 2 days, then on a morning, for no particular reason. It started to lag heavily. music will play for 2-5 seconds then stops for another 2-5 second, then play again for 2-5 sec.
I tried everything from restarting AE, upgrade Frameware to 6.2 then downgraded to 6.1, upgraded to itune 5 today, nothing works... it is the very same problem.
I am using a Dlink "B" only wireless router, does it make a different? and why did the AE work for 2 days then started this heavy lagging.

From a terminal prompt if you cd /var/log and look at the system.log file you may find the airport link going down the up again (which would certainly account for lags/outages). The link down and up messages are what I am seeing. Often changing the channel will help as interference from other networks/devices can cause the issue as well. My problem began last Saturday, and continued even after I upgraded the firmware to 6.2. As of right now it is running fine again. A friend mentioned that there was a larger than normal amount of Solar activity that was wreaking havoc with some cell phone coverage recently. It would be interesting if these issues go away in the next week or so. Thoughts?

Ipod 6th generation plays for about 20 sec then pauses by itself...ideas?
I have a 6th generation ipod nano. I plug it in via headphone jack, select a song, and it plays for 20 sec or so, then automatically pauses. Have tried different songs and have tried going to settings and resetting settings. Have also tried holding the power button and shutting down, then restarting. Upon restarting, I do not get the normal apple logo, it just goes back to the song that was paused. When I hit play, it plays for another 20 sec or so then pauses again. Any ideas?
This is usually an indication that your iPod's headphones are not plugged all the way in. The white part of the headset should be flush with the body of the Nano and no silver from the plug should still be seen.

I download radio programmes via Podcast, but have recently found that some episodes play for only 30 seconds and then the whole app quits. This happens even though the whole episode has downloaded. I would be grateful for advice.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Delete the problem episodes and redownload.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

This is incredibly frustrating - we had a IPhone 4s that had no problems here for about 7 monts. We have a new IPhone 4s and recently a new IPad 2. Ever since the mandatory switch to using the Podcasts App for iOS based products (my PC laptop works fine), the podcasts will say "cannot be downloaded at this time" and will stream for 30 seconds to a few minutes, then abruptly start over at the beginning. We cannot fast forward ahead properly in the new clunky interface, and the secondary screen where you get to see the "tape player" going through podcast does not skip when you move the timer icon anywhere in the podcast. It is though they are running in parallel.
We are talking podcasts by the BBC, NPR, etc and the Lenovo doesn't have any issues bc the whole system is inside ITunes.
I have looked all over the internet and cannot find a fix, please help.Hi jhyiesla,
Im not sure wether I got you right or not. But my advice/s would be as follows:
These steps help you get rid of old apps you downloaded years ago and you do not use anymore.(Also frees space on your mac after emptying the trash)
1) go to iTunes and delete all applications in it. Make sure to move them to trash! Do not empty your trash yet. Its your backup if step 3 doesnt appear.
2) connect both your devices(one after each other) and make a backup. !!!Dont press the Sync button, press the Back Up Now Button
3) Then it asks you if you want to backup applications as well. Confirm. (This is how apps get transferred manually)
4) Then Sync your devices... The first time it might be, that there are some additional apps loaded to your devices you dont want to.. delete them on your Device (not iTunes) and after that you should be good every time you sync again.
5) now you can empty your trash on your mac.
Further,
- You should regularly connect your devices with iTunes to make sure they are backed up. (Even if you have activated iCloud backup, the iTunes backup is more proper i.e.. Apps)
- If you hate scrolling through a list of apps in iTunes, you can re/install apps directly on iOS not via iTunes. I absolutely never go to the "Applications" section in iTunes. I install and delete apps directly on iOS.

Music plays from middle of a song for 5 sec, then changes & does it again
I just uploaded music onto my computer and then attached my iPod to download the music onto it. When I started listening to the music on my iPod, it randomly selects songs, plays for about 5 seconds from the middle of the song, and then changes to another song, plays for 5 seconds from somewhere in the middle of the song, and continues doing that. Also if I pause the song, it pauses for again 5 seconds, then goes to a new song, plays from somewhere in the middle of the song, etc.
The "meter" on the iPod screen shows a bar on the bottom displaying time played and time left to play Ex. 1:31----------------- -2:34 It clearly shows that's it's starting to play from the middle somewhere, but not the beginning of the song.
I've searched for random play, or some category that "previews" the songs, but can't find anything like that. Does anyone know what's wrong with it? Do I need to change the settings on it somehow? I CAN listen to the songs correctly if I listen from my computer, but not on my iPod.
I have the 60 video iPod, bought in November 2006.

Whwn viewing home movies the movie cuts out back to the general menu at random, forcing me to enter menu again, reselect the movie and hit resume button.
this happens everytime I try to play a movie, maybe after 1 min of play then again after 3 mins, next time it might play for 6 mins then cut out and so on. The macbook pro is not reverting to sleep mode or closing down and the wifi signal is strong. So is the apple tv an expensive load of junk or what?Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment. -
