Podcasts showing played before syncing

When I've listened to a podcast on my device, it shows as played in iTunes before I've synced it. I don't have wifi syncing set up, so I don't understand why this is happening, when it hasn't happened until just recently.
I don't use the podcast app, but manually add each episode I want to listen to, to my device.
I have an iPod Touch 5th gen and use Windows 7. iTunes is the most current version.
I'd like to fix this so that when I play a podcast, the play count shows only the total times I've played it and not the multiple plays I'm currently seeing.
Thanks for any help!

I just replaced an iPod touch with the new iPad and greatly miss this feature as well.  I can't think of why it would be missing on the iPad when the iPod and iTunes both have it. It is very frustrating.

  • My podcast show in my library but they won't download and I can't sync them to my Ipod Nano

I can not dowlnload podcasts, they show in my libary to GET - so I do that , it says it is downloaded them but then they don't go anywhere - how do I get them ot sync to my Ipod Nano?

Double check to make sure podcasts and configured to sync to your device from under the iPod's Podcast configuration tab.
To access the Podcasts tab for your iPod, plug your iPod in and click on it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the Summary tab. Along the top you should see a Podcasts tab, so go ahead and click on it.  Here you can configure how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.
If you do make any changes to do this tab, make sure to hit the Apply button in the lower right hand corner to apply the update changes to your device.

If it's an Audiobook, then it's probably in the Audiobook section of your iPhone. Have you set your iTunes to Sync Audiobooks with your iPhone?
Alternatively, if the Audiobook was imported into your iTunes Library as as Music, then it's going to be in the Music section of your iPhone. If so, then it will be in the Music section of your iTunes Library. To move it to the Audiobooks section, select it in the Library and choose File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind where you can change it.
You can change it to a Podcast, but since something is only a Podcast if it is delivered to your iTunes as a Podcast download (which is a process for delivering files without you having to go and find them), then your audiobook is not a Podcast and you may forget (in the future) how you obtained the book in the first place

  • Is there any way to read a video podcast's description before playing it?

I subscribed to a (German) video podcast. It's episodes are all named by their date, but no info on their content. The episode's content is written in the episodes description, which - as far as I could find out so far - I can only read on my iPod if I play that episode in audio mode and hit several times the middle key to change the screen.
Now, I'd like to choose, what to play (in video mode), before I start playing it. Any way to access the podcast's desciption before playing it?
    Thank you folks!
    TC

As far as I am aware, there is no way to read the description before playing it.
Not only would I like to be able to do that but I would like to know the running time of a Podcast (video or audio) before playing it and of course I would prefer the Podcasts to be listed in chronological order.

  • Incorrect matching of "Plays/Last Played" when syncing

When I sync, sometimes the tunes played in the shuffle are incorrectly matched with a different tune in iTunes. It appears that when this happens, it is true of all tunes on the iPod.  Is this a known problem? Is there a solution?

I've had a similar thing, and it has happened since I updated iTunes to version 8. ***** to be me.
Previously, the little blue circle showing if a podcast was played or not played button showed next to podcasts on my Shuffle in the same way that it shows on podcasts in my library. The Shuffle also kept track of the date that the podcasts were played, and I think it was accurate in that.
Now it doesn't keep track of what's been played and what hasn't. I'm now worse off than I was before. I'd like to revert to a previous version of iTunes to get the functionality back.

  • Videos not playing or syncing

I bought some videos through the iTunes store using iTunes 7.1.1. For awhile they all played in iTunes and synced fine to my video iPod, but then I upgraded my OS to 10.4.9. This caused all sorts of problems with my network (printing, sharing, etc.) so I reinstalled Tiger and am now again running 10.4.6. Music purchased before and after the upgrade/downgrade plays and syncs fine, but none of the videos I've purchased will play in iTunes or on the iPod. They show up in the iTunes library, but not on the iPod.
I'm guessing there some sort of sweet spot of OS/iTunes versions that's causing this, but can't find and related threads to figure it out. Anyone have any thoughts as to what's going on?
I have not tried any non-iTunes videos.
    Thanks!

    Anyone?? Please help!

  • Video podcast only playing audio on iPod

    Hi,
In the past (iTunes 11.4) I was able to download a video podcast from a website and link it to iTunes by adding it to the library. It would automatically show up in home videos so I would right-click the file, get info, and then change the media kind to podcast. It would then join the rest of the episodes in podcasts. Then when I synced my iPod it would copy the file to the podcasts app and I could watch the video.
Now using iTunes 12.0.1.26 when I repeat those steps the podcast joins the rest of the episodes in the podcasts section in iTunes and plays as a video in iTunes, but when viewing the podcasts in episode list view the video icon is missing (although strangely it appears in the standard podcast view). And when I sync the podcast to my iPod and I play it through the podcasts app it plays as an audio only podcast. When I check the file system at /var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/Fxx the video file is there and can be played as a video using the default video app, so there must be something iTunes is doing to tell the iPod to play it as audio only.
I have noticed in iTunes that when I get info of the previously added podcast episodes that it shows video properties whereas the newly added episodes do not and if I select new and old episodes at the same time and try to Get Info a message pops up saying "Your selection contains more than one kind of media." Whereas if I only select the new episodes or only select the old episodes, it doesn't pop up.
Also in Get Info, under options, the new episode show an option for equalizer (although it is greyed out and cannot be change), whereas the older episodes do not. And under Sorting, the new episodes have an option to sort podcast whereas the old episodes do not.
*(Old episodes refers to episodes added in iTunes 11.4, new episodes refers to episodes added in iTunes 12.0.1.26)
    Thank you.

Hello, I just had success getting things to work once with podcasts then tried it with iTunesU after I could not repeat it with podcasts. I had the same problem, What I ended doing with iTunesU I'm sure you can apply to podcasts it appears to be an iTunes 12 issue not an iOS issues but affects iOS devices 6,7,8. I just got lucky with solution. I am quite vague on what I did, so in coming days ( had enough today) I'm going to attempt it again and write an exact procedure. but while its fresh in my mind this is what I think I did with iTunesU to get same functionality as podcasts. Firstly talk about what we use to do, as you would do in the past I i used get info then changed it to podcast, as we know that won't work and files play as audio only. So I got my (the ones that wouldn't work on iPad but did on the mac) podcasts in iTunes and selected all (contents of podcast) then get info, i then changed them on mass to home video again( it protests but you continue). I then went to normal library ( can't recall what its called these days) created an empty playlist folder, then from my standard library i dragged all videos into it. I then selected all get info changed to iTunes U (i tried podcast i did succeed once but could not repeat) also changed institution and and instructor ( i think they must be in to work????)( I would say as it relates to podcasts you follow a similar procedure, my gut tells me its not working due to missing fields, we must work out which need filling in)
From there plugged in iPad clicked devices tab, strangely then left the actual collection in question unchecked, however below that box is another that says include items from playlist, i checked mine that i created earlier , playlist will only appear there if you went through the painful approach at start ( i.e. in get info you made the whole playlist is of type ' iTunes U' , I assume will be a similar case with podcasts). I then synced. didn't think it worked, then closed app on device and opened it and perfect there it was and it played video and then played next after etc
I am sure i have unnecessary steps but it was guess work. once I've refined it ill post technique. I'm certain it all hinges on making other fields right other than podcasts and them all being changed to the same at the same time. was weird that include from playlist worked rather than collections. that is probably key too.
Hope this is helpful, just a disclaimer i included to much info because the answer is in there.

  • Podcast stops playing

When I am playing a podcast and my screen turns off my podcast turns off too. How can I keep it playing without having to touch the screen every minute?

I have this very same problem.  When you start playing a podcast and the screen dims and goes black, the sound dims and stops playing.  This also happens when you want to exit the podcasts app or when multitasking to other apps.  The podcast shows in the multitask menus but you cannot play them while in another app.  Nor does tapping play from the lock screen.
Actually, this just happened to me a few minutes ago from working normally.
I hate this new app, it's the buggiest app apple has ever made, but it sort-syncs with my iTunes to I just try not to get too upset that it completely *****.  Syncing is has mixed results.  Sometimes it picks up new episodes, and sometimes not.  Sometimes even when you go to the catalog and manually download a podcast, it doesn't work.  But that's another topic for another forum.

  • Podcast shows up in iTunes Store but feed empty in iTunes

My podcast shows up perfectly in the iTunes store. All six episodes are there and up-to-date. But no matter what I do (subscribe, update, download all) the feed list in my iTunes program remains empty. Nothing gets downloaded...
    Podcast URL: http://www.brug.nu/multimedia/diensten-gemist/?podcast
When I click on a single episode, it will download it to my iTunes\Downloads folder but will not copy it to the iTunes\Podcasts folder. All other podcasts work fine so it must be something wrong with this one.
    What am I missing here?
    Maarten

Your iTunes Store page is at
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/de-brug-eindhoven-kerk-voor-nu/id852875733
The episodes there play within the Store. However on subscribing it is looking for a feed at the URL you quoted above:
    http://www.brug.nu/multimedia/diensten-gemist/?podcast
This is not a feed, it's a web page. Since your Store page works, you evidently had a working feed in the past, and the Store has cached this: but you have somehow substituted the web page at the same URL - unless you server is set up to respond with a web page when requested from a browser and should serve a proper when requested from iTunes. In any case, subscribing in iTunes doesn't work so it is evidently seeing that web page.
Incidentally the 'iTunes' link near the top of the page attempt to subscribe iTunes to the same web page; there is an RSS icon at the bottom of the page linking to an actual feed but this has only the header and no episodes.

  • Podcasts show up as on ipad, but won't open on ipad

When I sync my ipad, my podcasts show up in my library, and on the computer as being on the ipad, however when I go to the ipad, the icons are there, but when I tap them, they won't open.

Try a couple of basic troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Quit the Music App and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Podcasts show up on iPod but not in iTunes

My (old) podcasts show up on my iPod, but they don't appear in iTunes. I can't delete those podcasts and I really want to throw them away. Could somebody help me?!

Are you positive these podcasts are configured to sync to your iPod Touch? Have you double checked the configuration for podcasts from under the iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes?
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab.  Locate the Podcasts tab along the top and select it. Here you can choose how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.

  • What to do following PC motherboard crash before syncing iPhone?

    Situation:
PC + iPhone 4 synched using iTunes. Synch was relatively current before crash, but not completely up to date. Most importantly, some new and revised contacts.
iPhone 4 also synched with iCloud. However, my contacts are _not_ backed up on iCloud due to the duplicate contact creation problem. (Mail and Notes are also not synced but they are all OK on the iPhone so not an issue.)
PC motherboard crashed but hard drive not damaged. Virtually all files were fully backed up and I have secured a complete recovery of all c:\user files as well as all c:\program data files. (Other files are obtainable with additional work.)
iPhone contained some but not all iTunes music files (wouldn't all fit - always used manually designated content), so couldn't be used for a complete restore. Instead, I restored all the iTunes music and podcast files (that's all I really have) by importing the files from external drive to new PC using "copy" mode so all files were copied onto the PC. After some cleanup, iTunes music and podcast files appear to be OK.
I restored all contacts from external drive to new PC. New PC is Windows 7 Home Premium whereas old PC was Vista Home Premium, but contacts seem to be OK. Some additional contacts are on the iPhone and some were changed. I would like to recover those, however there is no great loss there if I can't.
There are photos and videos taken on iPhone but they are all still there on the iPhone. All prior photos and videos were put into my PC collection and I wiil recover those separately.
I have set iTunes Preferences to prevent iPhone from syncing automatically, so I can control it when I connect again.
    Questions:
    1) What else if anything do I need to do before syncing my iPhone to iTunes again?
    2) When I re-sync to iTunes, will the PC contacts or the iPhone contacts control, or will they be nicely updated to whatever is the most current?
    3) Will everything be OK with music and podcasts? (I think so.)
    4) Should I do anything with the iCloud backup or just let it continue to backup in the normal manner? (I think the later.)
    Thank you!!

See https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3763.  Also, if you can't turn it on and you don't have a backup there's no way to save your data.  You can do a reset without losing data.  With it plugged into the charger, hold the on/off and home buttons until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • I cant sync my iTouch the task bar shows it is syncing for now on the unit itself

I just tried to sync my IPod Touch 4th generation.  The bar on the screen shows it is syncing, but it does not look like it goes through the whole process and the unit itself does not say syncing like it did before.

At what stage is the sync "freezing"?

  • In random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

in random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

I've heard this excuse before, that what we think is random really isn't, but when certain trends occur enough times, its pretty clear that there is some kind of algorithm or something in the coding that affects the shuffle.
I know random means random, but there are too many "random" coincidences and apparent patterns that occur to raise doubt that it truly is as random as Apple claims.
One such example, is that when using the Shuffle Songs feature (that shuffles all tracks on the iPod) I had 2-3 tracks from the same album (an album I had never even listened to yet) showing up within the first 40 tracks five times in a row. Numerous other songs showed up in at least 3 of the 5 "trials." Out of 8,000 songs.
On a playlist (of 300 or less songs is all I have tried), if you have multiple songs off the same album, you are far more likely to hear at least one other song off a given album within about 10 songs then you are to not hear a song off the same album. A specific example of this is on a playlist of 105 songs I have, there are 3 songs off one album, however nearly every time 2 of the songs will play within a 10 track range, and nearly as often all 3 songs will play within the same 20 track range.
I know random isn't perfectly spaced songs, but when certain things happen often enough, the odds of it become so low that even the "true random" explanation doesn't cover it.
