Podcasts showing up as Audiobooks

I just got a nano and tried synching some podcasts, audiobooks, and music to it, using iTunes. I configured my nano to include the "Podcasts" and "Audiobooks" menus on the main menu. Unfortunately, the podcasts are not displayed under the "Podcasts" menu, but under the "Audiobooks" menu, along with the audiobooks.
At first I thought it was because I was using iPodderX to download the podcasts, then importing them into iTunes. I ended up trying to subscribe to a couple of the podcasts using iTunes (unfortunately, not all podcasts are not on iTMS), but they still show up under "Audiobooks" when they're synched to the nano.
Does anyone know why this may be happening, and if there's a way to fix it?
Thanks,
Sergio

Is there a way to see the content in iTunes and delete manually? Or am I stuck needing to 'restore' (which I think means deleting everything)?
There is, but it requires you to manually manage your iPod's contents by enabling the Manually manage music and videos option from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.
Once you have done that you can click the small black triangle next to your iPod in the left hand pane of iTunes to open up a submenu of content. Select music, movies, podcasts, etc to bring up a list of that type of content that is currently on your iPod. Highlight the desired content and hit the Delete key to remove it.  Here is more information on manually managing your iPod's contents in iTunes.
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
Otherwise, if you want to continue with having your iPod automatically sync content from iTunes you must configure your iPod to no longer sync the content you dont want on your iPod via the iPod's Music, Movies, Books, Podcasts configuration tabs that are accessible by selecting your iPod from under the Devices section in the left hand side bar of iTunes.

  • Podcast showing up as Audiobook

One of my podcasts is in my library as an audiobook. I would like it to be with the other Podcasts. I thought changing a setting in Get Info would be the solution, but if it is, I cannot figure it out. How can I make this change?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Since you are using a Mac, you are in luck. Hope over to Doug's Apple Scripts, download and run the following script. This will make the appropriate changes so the file will look like a podcast to iTunes.

  • How can I change file to Podcast from Music or Audiobook?

I am frustrated with how some of my files are automatically categorized. For example, I listen to podcasts of This American Life on my iPod. If I purchase them, they show up as Audiobooks. If I get them from the podcast, they show up under Podcasts. If I get them from CD, they show up as music. How can I move them so they are all in the same place. I thought maybe I could drag them, but that doesn't work.

Thanks! I didn't know about that. Unfortunately, "Podcast" isn't an option. So if it's something I normally get as a podcast, but occasionally get from another source, is there a way to put the files under Podcast? Or do I need to move it all to Music in order to have it consolidated?

  • My podcasts show up as music in my iPod

When my iPod (5th generation) is synched with iTunes, all my podcasts are correctly sorted separately both in my library and iPod. But when I eject and browse through my Ipod, my podcasts show up both under 'podcasts' and under 'music'. How do I organise them so they are not filed under music?

I have a similar question although I'm looking for the opposite outcome. I want to know how tracks are identified as either a podcast, audiobook or music as well. I want to take episodes of podcasts and take them out of the podcast category and put them into the music or audiobooks category instead. Hopefully someone will be able to answer this for both of us!

  • Podcast shows up in iTunes Store but feed empty in iTunes

My podcast shows up perfectly in the iTunes store. All six episodes are there and up-to-date. But no matter what I do (subscribe, update, download all) the feed list in my iTunes program remains empty. Nothing gets downloaded...
    Podcast URL: http://www.brug.nu/multimedia/diensten-gemist/?podcast
When I click on a single episode, it will download it to my iTunes\Downloads folder but will not copy it to the iTunes\Podcasts folder. All other podcasts work fine so it must be something wrong with this one.
    What am I missing here?
    Maarten

Your iTunes Store page is at
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/de-brug-eindhoven-kerk-voor-nu/id852875733
The episodes there play within the Store. However on subscribing it is looking for a feed at the URL you quoted above:
    http://www.brug.nu/multimedia/diensten-gemist/?podcast
This is not a feed, it's a web page. Since your Store page works, you evidently had a working feed in the past, and the Store has cached this: but you have somehow substituted the web page at the same URL - unless you server is set up to respond with a web page when requested from a browser and should serve a proper when requested from iTunes. In any case, subscribing in iTunes doesn't work so it is evidently seeing that web page.
Incidentally the 'iTunes' link near the top of the page attempt to subscribe iTunes to the same web page; there is an RSS icon at the bottom of the page linking to an actual feed but this has only the header and no episodes.

  • I downloaded a WMA audiobook from library using Overdrive. It shows up on my Itunes listing of Audiobooks on my Ipod, but on the actual Ipod it only shows up on Playlists. How do I get it to show up under Audiobooks?

I downloaded a WMA audiobook from library using Overdrive. It shows up on my Itunes listing of Audiobooks on my Ipod, but on the actual Ipod it only shows up on Playlists.  It is marked as an audiobook in Options | Media Kind.  It is also marked to Remeber Position, but it does not do that. How do I get it to show up under Audiobooks and remember the position?  I have a 4th Gen Ipod running Ios5

Check out the instructions for a work around on this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18702732#18702732
This worked for me.  I would like to see Apple fix this issue, as it isn't very fun to have to do this for every downloaded book.

  • Audiobooks no longer show up as Audiobooks in my library

I purchased a few audiobooks last week, to listen to at the gym. I sync'd, and went off to the gym, to find that my audiobooks weren't on my iPhone anymore. Sigh.
I get home, and notice that the "Audiobooks" category in my library doesn't show up.
    ... huh?
Upon further inspection, I can see the files listed in the library, just not as audiobooks (they look like regular songs). "Get Info" tells me they are .m4b files, which should be correct ... right?
How do I get these to show up as Audiobooks again?
    Thanks!

Yep... M4B is for books unless you get them from Audible in which case I believe they are .AA
First, check Pref->General and make sure Audiobooks are checked.
On the off chance your sig is wrong and you are using Leopard, the easiest thing would be to restore your library to a day when you remember the audiobooks being there.
Failing that, my first suggestion would be to delete all your audiobooks from the music portion of your library, assuming they are showing up there now rather than in the audiobook section. Don't delete the files, just the library reference.
Try adding them back after that.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest dragging your library files to your desktop temporarily and restarting itunes just to see if they show up then. If not, you still have the library files you can move back because re-adding all that album art is a PIA so no sense making grief unnecessarily.
If no joy, then try trashing the plist files.
Still no joy, trash iTunes and reinstall.
Hope that helps...I use Audiobooks a lot so will be very interested in which, if any, of these steps solved the problem, so please post back.

  • Podcasts show up as on ipad, but won't open on ipad

When I sync my ipad, my podcasts show up in my library, and on the computer as being on the ipad, however when I go to the ipad, the icons are there, but when I tap them, they won't open.

Try a couple of basic troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Quit the Music App and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Podcasts show up on iPod but not in iTunes

My (old) podcasts show up on my iPod, but they don't appear in iTunes. I can't delete those podcasts and I really want to throw them away. Could somebody help me?!

Are you positive these podcasts are configured to sync to your iPod Touch? Have you double checked the configuration for podcasts from under the iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes?
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab.  Locate the Podcasts tab along the top and select it. Here you can choose how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.

  • Our podcast shows black thumbnails on iPod Podcasts screen

Our podcast shows black thumbnails on iPod Podcasts screen, im not talking about the channels logo here, that works fine.
It's when you have subscribed to the feed and the podcasts are downloaded to your Apple mobile device and you view your podcasts on screen, down the left it has little video thumbnails of the episodes.
In my case apart from one episode they all show a black video thumbnail and I want to show our logo or ideally a frame from that episode say 5 seconds in would do.
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know exactly how the iPod works in this context: in iTunes, when subscribing, the image you see for each episode is either the first chapter image of an 'enhanced' podcast or an image which has been embedded in the file. I don't know what it does with movie files - possibly the first frame. You could subscribe in iTunes on your PC and see what shows there.
In any event, you should be able to embed an image of your choice in each file (you would then need to re-upload it). The method is described here:

I have several .mp3 files of speech. When I add them to iTunes they show up in Music. How can I get them to show up as Audiobooks?

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • The same podcast shows up multiple times

In iTunes, the same podcast shows up multiple times. There is only one copy of the file on my computer, and the file it located in the right location, but in iTunes, the same podcast is repeated two or more times. When I delete a single podcast and try to play its copies, iTunes notifies me that it can't find the file. I believe this happens when I use the import folder utility and add music in the iTunes music default location (which includes the podcasts as well as the music I want to import). Does anyone know how to keep this from happening?
    Thanks

Well, the easiest way would be to stop using the import folder utility. Sounds like you're adding the podcast multiple times. You're probably doing it to other files as well...

  • ITunes displays my podcast show but no podcast episode?

I was notified that my first podcast was accepted by iTunes a day ago.  Here is the URL given in my acceptance email:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/just-love-walking-show/id733590672
I can see my Just Love Walking show description and the first episode from the URL above, but when I click "view in iTunes"
ONLY the Just Love Walking Show description appears but NO podcast episode.
    1. Will the episode appear within the next day or so?
Or is there a problem that I need to investigate & remedy?
    Also,
    2.  Can I make changes to the iTunes category in the future?  Currently it just shows "amateur" when I was hoping it would show "Sports & Recreation" the higher level category.  Can I change that in my iTunes podcast description at the feed level in my feed provider's account (Libsyn).
    Thank you.
    JustLoveWalking

    Rob & Roger,
OK, I just did a search for the Just Love Walking Show iTunes on google and was linked to my iTunes podcast show page where I finally DID see and was able to play my first (and only) podcast!!  Hurray!!
I viewed it from:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/just-love-walking-show/id733590672 and then linked to iTunes.  I also could see the same display of the episode from a search inside of iTunes.
BUT...my podcast cover artwork did NOT show up in iTunes!  The cover artwork has been displaying beautifully for several days in iTunes and I have NOT changed anything in Libsyn to effect any changes.  My Libsyn feed is:  http://justlovewalking.libsyn.com/rss
Also I just checked my own website and the podcast cover art continues to display wonderfully well for my Libsyn Wizard player embeded links on my site: http://www.justlovewalking.com/ .  So what could the problem be now?  My cover artwork fulfills the iTunes requirements (RGB color, 1400x1400, HD quality, etc) and as I said, has displayed on iTunes for several days!
I hope this will sort itself out soon!  I'd like to be able to start promoting my podcast and to be able to tell people that I'm listed on iTunes (with cover art that I've been very careful to create correctly for iTunes).
...sorry to go on...this is frustrating...
Again your help has been really supportive and I truly appreciate all of your responses:)
    Best Regards
    JustLoveWalking

i started a podcast show on iTunes and then there were a couple changes so i started out a new one, but do not know how to delete the older show containing all the mistakes. Can someone help with me with this?

With the iPod or iPhone connected, open iTunes.  Select the iPod/iPhone from under 'Devices' in the sidebar.  Select 'Podcasts' from the list at the top of the Window and under 'Sync Podcasts' select 'Automatically include' and choose your options from the dropdown lists, specifically ensure that you've chosen 'selected podcasts' from the second dropdown list.
