Podcasts suddenly downloading as if 78rpm i.e. speech is speeded up - why?

I recently started walking a lot and downloaded podcasts from iTunes to listen to. Worked fine for approx 2 months then suddenly they sound speeded up - the hosts are talking very fast and it's hard to hear what they're saying. I can't think of anything I've done differently - I might have had an iOS update, I've changed my iTunes Password but I couldn't see why it was happening even after I removed them from my iPhone by choosing not to sync them, then synced and added them back on. It's so frustrating.

Just found this - and as a result of posting this other posts asking for help - some responses more sarcastic than others "read the manual" but I've never needed to do this before. However, it does work so thank you!

Re: My podcasts have speeded up. How can I correct this?
Jun 27, 2011 5:31 PM (in response to summerswimmer)
On the podcast play screen, there is a playback speed selector box.  It is on the right side slightly below the scrubber bar. In the box is either 1/2X, 1X or 2X.  Tap the box to cycle through the playback speeds.

  • Some Podcasts Not Downloading - Error 8006

I am running iTunes 7.4.2 - for some reason, some (but not all) of my podcasts suddenly will NOT update. Instead they have an "!" next to them, and when I click on the exclamation point, I get the following error message"
"There was a problem downloading (name of podcast). An unknown error occurred (8006). Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again."
Any idea what this could be? I just want to update my podcasts and this is driving me crazy!
    Thanks.

    Hhhmmm!
That rules out my thought that perhaps the Podcasts had changed it's feed. Sometimes they do and then it is simply a matter of accepting two different feeds.
It may be a temporary glitch. Give it a day or two and if you still have the same problem, try ocntatcing the Podcast's producer to let them know of your problem. It may be something they can fix. (Apple are not usually involved in Podcasts.)

  • Why did my podcasts suddenly become garbled? Music is fine.

I'm using ipod nano 6th gen. My downloaded podcasts suddenly became garbled, but all my downloaded music is fine. Can anyone help? I've had the ipod for 8 months.

Check the Podcast's playback speed.  See page 32 of your iPod's User Guide for more assistance.

one week ago i tried to install a router (i can't) and i change some configurations of my connection, and now appears this error in some podcast, some download incompletly and some spend days to ending the file.
i'm a stupid windows user (i'm expecting leopard and buy an iMac with) if anyone can help me i'll be really apreciate
    jordi (Barcelona)

    Hi,
I had the same problem, 3259 errrors every time I tried to download podcasts. I have a server providing DNS, when I reset this, suddenly the downloads started working again.
Even if you dont have a server, it my be the router DNS server going screwy, so try resetting your router
It may be a completely different problem for you but I thought this may help.

  • Podcast: Subscription Download Day

Does anyone know what causes subscribed podcasts to seemingly download all at once versus at the time of invidual podcast releases? I've got many subscriptions from itunes and it would seem these should become released on the release day of the source.... Instead these come one or a few weeks later... Is it best to subscribe directly from the source, so as not be delayed and so as to unburden itunes-store which perhaps is primarily for retail sales?
In case it is expected serious podcast subsribers should know these things, much betteer than i do, where is the source of information specifically describing "most efficient podcast subscription method".
Another oddity deserving more elucidation is that subscribed podcasts sometimes are not received at all-- Instead one sees that podcasts are suddenly available, in grey writing with an accompanying "get" button. These have lost the automatic download function.
    Insights welcomed

RE: " I may, however, be misunderstanding the point of your second paragraph, however, as it is somewhat unclear."
Thanks for pointing towards clarity, as i too seek clarity. The point then, of giving a live example is to discover why a show-producer would tend to be a week or more ahead of itunes podcast list for that same show-release-date. The reason to ask a public forum is see if there is a missing check box to use, or something missed by the questioner (me). I happened to have previously checked "Settings/ Every Day" so finally today i have changed this to "Settings/ Every Hour". . . See if that improves downloads in the coming days. Give it time to gel.
My given-example-show is not unique in download timing -- Seemingly it is each and every subscription, of my dozen (or so) subscriptions, which seem to follow this pattern of suddenly downloading all at one moment. So, it appears that conventions might have slowed down particular availabilities. The new-world-culture of downloading audio-shows is still developing. It is my hope that a forward-positioning company like Apple, might consider ways to improve on automating downloads generally-- Perhaps some wizard software that is especially adept at assisting Apple-Product-buyers, to take advantage of multi-cultural downloads. Have itunes more aggressively absorb subscriptions, even if a flag or tag or whatnot is missing. Like many, i have long continued to buy from Apple, to avoid fussing with "extra steps". The same point really, that you raised Meg! SO thanks again, Bo

  • With iTunes 10, Computer Still Freezing When Podcasts are Downloading

For the last several versions of iTunes, my computer has been slowing down a LOT while podcasts are downloading, especially when a new iT version is first installed. Then things improve over time. Now, with iTunes 10.1.1.4, it's horrendous. ITunes takes forever to open, and then causes my computer to become completely unresponsive. It doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard inputs, so I can't minimize it or shut it down.
Sometimes when that happens, I can't even open Task Manager, but when I can, it indicates that iTunes is using between 95 and 98% of CPU. In that circumstance, I can't even shut down iTunes with TM. After 15 or 20 minutes and all the podcasts have downloaded, I'm able to use my computer again, even with iTunes open.
It happens with all podcasts, but obviously it's more of a problem when a big pcast is downloading.
Today, I got the famous blue screen of death. All my programs had frozen and I was trying to shut down iTunes. The blue screen said "kernel data inpage error," whatever that means.
With past versions, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iT, but that has not helped.
All my other programs are working fine. Today I ran CCCleaner, AdAware, RegCure and Malware Bytes, but nothing changed. My McAfee anti-virus max scanning time is 10 seconds.
Any idea what could be going on here? Or how to begin troubleshooting this mess?

    Hi,
finally worked! I found this post and it has finally worked I understand it is the same as WHATHECK's answer so thanks WHATHECK!

  • Itunes in my Ipad only gives me three options: itunes U, Podcasts and download. What do I do?

iTunes in my iPad only gives me three options: iTunes U, Podcasts and downloads (which, by the way, doesn't go beyond the terms and conditions). How do I get the rest of the options?

Well, Meg, I'm more than sorry too. It is not our intention to violate any terms. We are only trying to find a viable and legal way to be able to enjoy the full potential of our iPad and, of course, pay for it as expected. Even when I'm at fault for not doing some research before buying it, it is certainly unfortunate to discover that we won't be getting our money's worth after all. If you ever hear about this limitation changing, please, let me know. Thank you for all your help.

  • HT3281 How can I sort the podcasts I download so that the smaller ones download first

    Hi All
A cool feature that I am looking for is a way to sort the podcasts that I downlod by size, so that I can download the smaller ones first and fast and then keep downloading untill all pocasts are downloaed.
So for example: I subscribe to a podcast from Scientific American called 60-second science. Now this is a minute or so long commentary about some interesting scientific topic. Typically the podcast is in the range of 1.5 to 2.0 MBs. It downloads in seconds, and I also subscribe to Audio podcasts from London School of Economics which typically are 1.5 hours and the file is in the 30 to 35 MB range and some times even larger.
So when I make the list of podcasts to downlad, I would like to be able to clik on the headers of the coumns in iTunes and have the entries isted just kike Windows Exploer wuld sort, and then click download and the podcasts will download fast and then slow down as the file size gets larger.
Is this feature in today's iTunes 10??? Or could it be introduced in future versions?
    Thanks
    Wassim

I think you can use download manager, just try to find it in google and install it. Most of download manager has waiting list or queues.

  • I can't get any new podcasts to download.

I have subscribed and re-subscribed and nothing is helping.  I just keep getting the little greyed out exclamation point in a circle.  Any suggestions?  A couple months back I deleted my whole library and the Geek Squad was able to recover it and I got one podcast after that but nothing since.

Hope you found and fixed the problem before throwing the MacBook Pro across the room.

  • My podcast wont download to IPOD

My podcast are gone after upgrading. Same thing happened to my music but I was able to find the fix to restore. Now I'm re-subscribing but the podcast wont download to my IPOD. Has anyone else had this issue

I had the same problem and just figured it out today. The new podcast I subscribed to wasn't syncing to my iPod even though all episodes were checked in the Podcasts section of Library. All my other podcasts were syncing without a problem. When I connected my iPod to my laptop I selected the iPod under "Devices" and then selected the Podcasts tab at the top. There I noticed the new podcast had been added by default with the checkbox empty. Once I checked the box it synced to my iPod.

  • Podcast not downloading

    Hi,
I subscribe to an audio podcast and previously have had no problems having it automatically update to my Itunes and then sync to my Ipod touch. Since last August, I can no longer get any of the new podcasts to update into my Ipod. They download to Itunes and I am able to delete old ones from my Mac and they come off my Ipod Touch. But no new podcasts will download. I am still able to get podcasts through my Ipod directly but I prefer to have the subscription through my Itunes.
Other things in my Ipod are still updating from ITunes like my pictures and my music.
I posted this back in August and no one answered me. Is there anyone out there who can help?

    Hello smeep1225,
Have you doubled checked your sync settings for podcasts from under the Podcasts tab for your iPod in iTunes while it is connected? If not, I would start there. Let us know exactly what options you have ticked or selected from under this tab.

    Hi Keithgspar1,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an issue where iTunes is quitting unexpectedly when working with podcasts. The article linked below provides a lot of great troubleshooting suggestions that can help you isolate and resolve the issue.

I'm having a horrible time getting podcasts to download (from ESPN and NPR publishers). They'll get about 1/4 of the way through and then just stop. Podcasts don't come from the itunes store - they come from the podcast producer's website.
You might try downloading them directly from the ESPN or NPR websites. That's all I can think of. My NPR podcasts seem fine, for whatever that's worth.

  • Bug in 12.1.1.4 Podcasts Not Downloading Stuck in Clould

Longtime itunes user through many versions I'm on windows 7 64 bit. Upgraded a while ago to 12.1.1.4 and now  podcasts are not downloading and stay stuck in in the cloud unless I manually click on the podcast to download the individual podcast episodes.
    These are my settings:
These should be downloading them, they are not.  Apple this is a bug and needs to be fixed.  It seems like this happens in every other version of itunes that you folks put out.  What is the deal?  I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing without deleting the podcast and that usually managed to somehow make itunes recognize that it would be downloading them.  That does not work as a workaround/trick anymore.  Really need an actual fix for this folks.

Well, I guess I have been somewhat lucky then - I have been using iTunes since version 9 (so quite a while but not a super long time) and I haven't had many issues, and none that weren't resolved by just resubscribing.  I've also had pretty good luck with the podcast app, and it seems like that gave a lot of people grief.
I concur though that the "feature" to just randomly shut off updates is awful.  But it is so typical of how they operate.  They tell you what you want and how it will work and that's it.  Don't like it, then too bad, which makes it so frustrating, especially if you're not 100% Apple all the time.  Add one feature, take two others away.  I have gotten to the point where I try not to let it bug me.
The problem is that there isn't much else out there that reliably syncs play counts and last-played timestamps back to a central library AND has smart playlists - which is the #1 reason I like the iPhone/iTunes combo.  The Zune and Zune player was the closest thing, and even that was pretty bad.  It didn't sync last played timestamps and its playcounts were all over the place.  It was way better for podcasts though.  I have an Android music app and windows client that syncs play counts pretty well, but it does it to iTunes - no other windows music app.  I've always wished Winamp would have come out with a great iOS/Android music app that sync'd play activity, but nothing so far and I'm not holding my breath.
