Podcasts sync, despite being unchecked

I have a 30GB Ipod with software version 1.3 that I'm trying to sync to my OSX 10.4.11 MacBook with iTunes 7.7.1.
The problem I'm having is this: I have automatic syncing selected, and I've also checked the box on the "Summary" page of the iPod menu in iTunes that says "Sync only checked songs and videos." On the "Podcasts" tab, I've checked the "Sync" box and selected "3 most recent" from the pulldown menu adjacent to it, and selected the "Selected podcasts:" radio button.
The problem I'm having is that iTunes syncs all the episodes of all the podcasts, instead of just the 3 most recent episodes of the ones I've selected.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to fix it?

I have the same problem. I also set the "Selected Podcasts" yet some (but not all) of the unchecked ones keep getting synced onto my ipod.

I am visually handicapped and have Firefox set up in the colors to force black background white text. My computer is set up like that too by uncheckable the allow web pages to choose colors and checking use system colors. If go to print a page with a dark background or use the color setting mentioned above. My pages print with the dark background despite the Print background box being unchecked. This problem cropped up as of Firefox 4.x.

That could be a bug, or it could be by design. I'm not sure.
Studying a workaround and will report back...
Okay, here's the workaround. I think it's actually better looking than the built-in solution, but you can be the judge. (On further thought, maybe it's a bit extreme...)
First, you need an add-on named Stylish. Stylish lets you restyle any page. You can install it here (you will have to restart Firefox and enable the add-on if it isn't automatically enabled): [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/ Stylish :: Add-ons for Firefox].
Second, you need a "userstyle" named [http://userstyles.org/styles/48319/browser-and-page-white-on-black Browser and Page - White On Black]. As the name suggests, the text is white and the background is black, but because it is applied as a style, you can turn off the black background in Page Setup. (I tested it today, but I can't vouch for it being the same if it has been updated.)
Check the box under Tools > Options > Content > Colors to let sites set their own styles, then check some pages (and Print Preview) to see how you like it.
    Does it work for you?

And it is not Photo Stream photos that you are seeing reflected?
Try resetting your device(nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Slide to Unlock screen redisplays, see if the issue is resolved.
If it isn't try syncing with iTunes on the computer you sync with, and uncheck "Sync Photos". See if that clears it up. If it does, then re-sync the photos that you want.

  • Podcasts Sync even though setting is off

    iTunes 8, iPhone 3G 2.1
Even though my Sync Podcasts option is unchecked, video podcasts sync to my iPhone anyway. Has anyone else noticed this? It has done it since I got the 3G, my 1st Gen iPhone didn't have the issue. Issue was present prior to iTunes 8 as well.

Beats me. I now explicitly save every episode just after downloading. Some sort of simple switch to keep everything would be nice.

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. When detached, it stops playing and screen goes dark and it will not respond to any buttons, despite being charged several times for many hours on different chargers. The battery indicator stays on lightning flash symbol on white background and has only momentarily shown fully charged symbol once !
I am baffled as to why this new ipod has a similar problem to the old ipod.
Is there a virus out there which can have this effect and which I may have picked up on my Pc and have inadvertently transferred to both ipods when sync-ing ?
My PC has Norton anti-virus software.
    Any suggestions , please ?

Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery.  You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.

  • Podcast Syncing between Devices

I listen to podcsts on three Apple devices (Macbook Pro, iPad, iPhone).  I have a few pocasts that I subscribe to on my account.  All three devices have these podcast.  I listen to the podcast on different devices.  My problem it that if there is any length of time that I do not listen to a particular podcast on one of my devices (say my iPhone), but I had keep listening to it on one of my other devices, the iPhone stops sycing that podcast and I get the follwoing mesasge "This podcast has stopped automatically downloading because you haven't viewed or played it recently.  Tap ot resume"
It is true that I have not listened to that podcast on that device, but I have listen to it on another device.  It woud be great if there was a way their could sync in iCloud so that all devices know that a podcast is actviely being played on other devices.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I've given up on apple's podcast app and switched to DownCast. DownCast claims to be able to do what you are asking, although it's not a feature I currently use so can't vouch for the feature personally.
The app developer is also very responsive to comments and questions.

  • Individual Podcast sync settings

Here's a dilemma: From what I can figure so far, if you choose a Sync option (from the Podcast tab for your iPod when it's connected to iTunes), that option will apply to ALL of the podcasts you are sync-ing to your iPod - whether that's one, several, or all your podcasts. Well, what if you want different sync instructions for different podcasts?
For example, is there a way to have iTunes do the following, all at once, on the same iPod:
Sync "all" episodes from Podcast A
    AND
Sync "All New" episodes from Podcasts B and C
Would this require setting up a Smart Playlist for each show, or am I overlooking some other (obvious?) way of achieving separate sync instructions? Anxious for your insights.
Some are Vodcasts that fill up ipod. 4GB Model ipod nano 3rd gen.

    Hi,
I was probably less than clear and I'd assumed you would have your iPod configured a particular way.
When you connect your iPod I would recommend you make sure there is a tick in the check-box on the Summary tab that reads "Sync only checked songs and videos". This allows you to manually exclude individual files from the iPod (too big, incompatible or you just don't want them) while generally letting everything else get synced. Some of the podcasts I subscribe to come with occasional video episodes that are not iPod-freindly. To avoid getting error messages when I sync I simply uncheck these specific episodes.
Using this method you would elect to sync all episodes of selected podcasts and then manually uncheck certain episodes in the main Podcast source to reclaim space on the iPod.
The second idea which I mooted earlier is probably best explained with an example. I subscribe to the "In Our Time" podcast which recently had series of episodes on Darwin. I just created a smart playlist with the rule "Podcast is true AND Name contains Darwin" which matched just these episodes. On the iPod/Music tab I put a check mark against this playlist, on the iPod/Podcast tab I removed the check for "In Our Time" and then I synced. Once sycned the podcasts menu of my iPod reports just the four selected episodes of "In Our Time" that match the smart playlist criteria.
This gives you the option to create a tailored set of rules to determine exactly which episodes of any given podcast series you would like to have synced to the your iPod.

  • Podcast syncing & Podcast cover view in iTunes 11

    Hello,
One of the features for iTunes 11 was podcast syncing. It was supposed to sync what podcasts you had between your computers and mobile devices, and also sync position. Was quite looking forward to this feature. Where is it and how do you make it work ? There is no cloud symbol beside Podcasts, was the feature dropped ?
Also I quite like the new Album cover view for Music, is it possible to get that for Podcasts ?
    Thanks.

Ah you can get the nice Album view for podcasts. Create a smart playlist which adds all podcasts ("is kind podcast"). Select Music > Playlist. Select the smart playlist on the left. Gives you nice album view for podcasts. Also in the new mini viewer you can choose between podcasts in the pop up list.
    No podcast syncing yet though.
Also it would be nice if you could force permanent cover art for podcasts. So many are missing even though they have a cover in iTunes.

  • Not understanding why my podcast isn't being accepted by iTunes

I recently submitted a feed for my new podcast to Apple. Here is the feed:
    http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:109836704/sounds.rss
    They responded:
    Dear podcast owner,
The podcast located at the URL shown below has been blocked or removed from the iTunes directory as a result of technical problems with the feed.
    Name: Calvinist Batman
    Feed URL: http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:109836704/sounds.rss
If you wish to reactivate your podcast in the iTunes directory, please troubleshoot your feed and check the functionality of each episode. To test your podcast, start iTunes, select Subscribe to Podcast from the Advanced menu, and enter your feed URL in the dialog box. If you can successfully subscribe to your podcast and listen to each of the episodes, you can reactivate your podcast by resubmitting the feed using the Submit a Podcast page,https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/publishPodcast.
For more information on troubleshooting feed problems and controlling the appearance of your podcast on iTunes, please see the podcast FAQ at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/faq.html and technical specification at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html.

    The iTunes Store team
Originally it looked like the artwork wasn't to scale so I fixed that and then resubmitted it. But no response from Apple has come back. I have tried almost 15 times and I haven't heard back from them.
Can anyone tell me why my podcast isn't being approved? Please?
    Thanks!
    @calvinistbatman

When you enter the URL of your top media file in a browser it downloads instead of playing within the browser as it should. This means that although it works in the iTunes application, the Store can't play it within its own page.
You need to set each file not to download. eiznem has posted the process:

Are you sure the settings are correct? Did you check the outgoing mail server setting? Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

    It just could be this;

If you can you can choose the None option and only put the card info in when you want to buy something. It also makes your account less suceptable to hackers as there is nothing that they can use to buy anything.

  • Nano: Only works when directly connected to USB despite being FULLY charged

Hello all! This is my first topic/thread so I'm unsure if this is the correct spot to post this so please let me know. My issue concerns my Nano 8GB inability to play once fully disconnected from the USB/computer. This past week i noticed after having added some music that my battery indicator was on empty even after being charged for hours; i've never had charging problems with my unit before so I decide to reconnect it and let it charge overnight but to no avail. Once i remove the ipod from the computer the upper righ hand batt indicator was still showing empty; one day though the batt indicator actually had some life showing a sliver of "red" as to let me know there was some charge but a very low one so i decided on reconnecting it for another evening. Keep in mnd that despite the indicator showing empty i was able to play music/movies for a few days straight with no problems leading me to believe that its charging system was fine but that some type of glitch or software error was to blame for the indicator showing nothing.
But suddenly while listening to music the next day the ipod stopped playing and showed me a warning screen "Connect To Power" via a yellow triangle exclamation symbol right next to the BIG BATTERY symbol u get in the middle of the screen, and then shut itself off. From this point on my Ipod has not regained its ability to play independently and is confined to being connected via USB @ all times if I want to enjoy any of its content. Basically it can't run on its own anymore, however when i plug it back to the USB all my music/movies are accesible through iTunes and play w/out problems. Even when I hit "safely remove hardware" and the ipod ends synchronizing with the computer but is still hooked up to the port it will work in my hand normally without issues as it always has. It even shows me the little battery indicator on the upper right side fully green w/ the usb symbol in the middle recognizing its still hooked up to the USB port while I listen to my media; but IT MUST BE CONNECTED via USB cable for it to do anything at all once its removed all bets are off and my ipod won't work.
Also you know how after one "safely remove drive E" your Ipod basically SNOOZES if connected but not in use, well the screen that pops up is the Battery Life Screen where the BIG BATTERY symbol I saw in the WARNING Screen tells u how much u got left. Well guess what mine says whenever plugged into the USB port: CHARGED with the indicator nice and full of GREEN. But again once i remove that USB cable the ipod goes black, tells me I need to "connect to Power" and won't turn on or play music or even let me reset it; its like my Ipod has become a Phetus being kept alive by its Umbilical Cord.
I don't know if I've explained myself clearly but honestly i've been trying to read up on this type of issue EVERYWHERE but I can't seem to find any other cases like this one. I mean if its the battery wouldn't the ipod be completely unable to work even while its plugged in to the computer? This is very bizarre
an seek all the help & expertise u guys have to offer. If theres something you don't quite get please let me know and i'll try to break it down further. Thanks and i anxiously await your responses...
    RECAP
Nano small battery indicator showed it was empty despite being fully charged
Nano won't work unless plugged in via USB cable
Will work perfectly through Itunes and independently but must be plugged in
Battery Indicator Screen says battery fully charged
Once unplugged Warning Screen pops up automatically, stating "Connect To Power"
    which shuts off the ipod.

Yes, once I 'safely remove from drive' the ipod works normally I can listen to my media, change settings and even reset it by pressing MENU+center button. During resetting it goes straight onto the screen showing the Apple logo and then retuns back to automatically synchronizing with the computer (since its still plugged in to the usb port) and i can go into itunes and play my media via laptop. What type of servicing are you referring to? Should I try buying a new battery or sending it to apple so they can figure it out?
Two things which happened yesterday which were sorta demoralizing:
1 After unplugging my ipod from USBport the screen would automatically go black, right after I would hit the PLAY button and would get the "Connect To Power" Warning screen but under very Low Backlight before shutting itself down again. You could hardly see it, but now it doesn't pop up at all or give me any type of warning just a BLACK screen, so the only way of getting the unit to do anything is via usb connection.
    2. Also the day before I had fooled my ipod into being connected to the usb even though I was pulling the usb cable very slowly from underneath its adapter; sorta letting it touch the adapter but not really hooked up to it. Well I managed to get the cable off and my Ipod to work for less than 10 seconds but I was able to scroll down the Main and Playlist menus without any lag or lack of Backlight before it went out. I tried it once more and it didn't work plus I don;t see what the benefits of doing so would be @ this point. But having said that does anyone think it could be a simple battery issue or is this harddrive related? Again the Ipod only work swhen connected to my usb & tells me its fully charged, but once unplugged it goes completely blank...
