Podcasts synced as music

I am having trouble syncing my new 80g Video iPod. I am running iTunes 7.2.0.34 on Windows XP Pro. I have successfully subscribed to several podcasts and imported CDs into my library. When my iPod auto-synced for the first time, it loaded the podcasts as music, mixed in with albums, artists, and songs. The podcast menu was empty. I manually synced, and now they show in both menus on the iPod. This mis-organization is not present within the iTunes library.
What do I do?

  • How can I sync both Music files and Podcasts to my Ipod shuffle 4th gen?

I have been trying to do this for a very long time. I own an Ipod shuffle 4th generation and I want to be able to listen to music, podcasts, etc without having to switch between the different formats using Itunes. Everytime I try to sync music and podcasts to my Ipod, it will only play one of the two types but not both. I have plenty of space on my Ipod but it just won't sync music and podcasts together. I have tried using Smart playlists but whenever I try to add the different types of media, it shows nothing in the playlist. Any help with this would be appreciated.

If you are using automatic syncing, you need to set up syncing on the shuffle's Music tab and Podcasts tab in iTunes...
Select your shuffle in iTunes.  There is a bar of "tabs" (starting with Summary).
Click on Music there.  This Music tab is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the shuffle.  Sync Music is checkmarked, if you use automatic syncing.  Your entire iTunes Music library (plus podcasts) probably will not fit, so you can select to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, make a selection of songs to sync by checkmarking playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres.  For example, if you want to keep it simple, create a new playlist in iTunes and put ALL songs you want on the shuffle on that playlist.  Back on the Music tab, find and checkmark only that one playlist under Playlists as your selection of songs.
Click on the Podcasts tab next.  This is where you tell iTunes how to sync podcasts to the shuffle.  Sync Podcasts is checkmarked.  Make you selection of podcast episodes below.
When you click Apply, your selection of songs and podcasts sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, all changes to your iTunes library that relate to your selection on the two tabs sync automatically when you connect the shuffle, or when you click Sync.
When you use the shuffle, podcasts do not play from the default All Songs list.  To play podcast episodes, you use the VoiceOver feature to select the podcast from the playlist menu.
This document has information about setting up and using VoiceOver on a shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4322
You can also play podcast episodes from a playlist.  If you put podcast episodes on a playlist, that playlist needs to be checkmarked on the Podcasts tab, where is says Include Episodes from Playlists.  You can then use VoiceOver to select that playlist from the playlist menu.  To play podcast episodes from a playlist, the shuffle's power switch must be in the play-in-order (middle) position.  The podcast episodes will then play in playlist order (as you organized them in iTunes before syncing).

  • Itunes 7.5 not syncing music folder but podcasts sync fine

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can offer some advice. Since upgrading to iTunes 7.5 and Vista, I've noticed that my iPod classic and iTunes are no longer syncing the Music folder in my library. I've been able to repeat the following behavior:
    - music files purchased from the iTunes store do not automatically update my iPod. I can, however, drag those files to my iPod manually.
    - music files from non-CD external sources do not automatically update my iPod. I cannot drag those files to my iPod.
    - files in the Podcast folder behave as I would expect. They update my iPod whenever I connect with no intervention required on my part.

I had a similar problem with my iPhone 4S. First time syncing all my music seemed to be transferring. Then, when sync had finished, the iPhone reported that 416 tracks could not be transferred and I should see iTunes for details.
iTunes had no details to give of course and when I tried another sync nothing happened to the tracks that were missing. In fact, when beginning to sync the iPhone would report 11.9GB of music on the phone and then at the end of sync that would drop to 7.3GB, which accounted for the 416 tracks missing.
Also, when I clicked on the phone in the Devices Tab, and opened up the triangular arrow, then clicked music, I could see the missing tracks greyed out and having the sync symbol at the start of the columns.
Eventually I figured out how the fix this. It seems to be something to do with a corruption in the ID tags or the modification dates. I changed the genre of all the affected tracks to 'Other' (they were set as various things before - Other just changed them to something else.. it is the change that is important).
Then all the tracks transferred across fine.
    Weird!
    Hope this helps...

  • HT1349 I cannot sync my music in itunes on computer to my ipod touch--the podcasts do sync just fine.

I cannot sync my music that is in itunes on my computer on to my ipod touch.  Podcasts sync just fine.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks

Sounds like you may not have the Sync Music option enabled, if so then ensure under that you have entire music library selected (or selected, then check some songs) and try again.
If this doesn't work, do you get an error message?

  • All my music and podcasts synced through iTunes are scrambled up. The songs and podcasts start in the middle and skip around. It happends on 3 diffrent Windows computers with 2 diffrent iPhone 4's.

Anyone have any ideas or did my wife and myself just get defective phones?
Like I said all songs and podcasts start  like 30 sec in them jump back to the intro then to the end then the middle. Its quite crazy.

  • Podcast sync issue with home & work Macs

Since as long as i can remember, i have been able to sync my music & video files with my iPhone at home while separately syncing my Podcasts at work (as new ones became available during the day).
I am having an issue now when i sync at home, (even though podcasts are set to NOT SYNC) where a sync of music and video will erase my podcasts that were put on at work.
Is this a Feature/Bug of 1.1.4? Has anyone experienced this issue?

Another strange issue i have just noticed... If is sync podcasts at home, and then i sync at work (with podcasts not selected to sync) the iTunes at work will leave them on the phone.
So it seems to be an Itunes (home) issue. Anyone know what prefs or resets i can to to set the syncs straight on my itunes at home. Work seems to be syncing correctly.

  • Podcast syncing & Podcast cover view in iTunes 11

    Hello,
One of the features for iTunes 11 was podcast syncing. It was supposed to sync what podcasts you had between your computers and mobile devices, and also sync position. Was quite looking forward to this feature. Where is it and how do you make it work ? There is no cloud symbol beside Podcasts, was the feature dropped ?
Also I quite like the new Album cover view for Music, is it possible to get that for Podcasts ?
    Thanks.

Ah you can get the nice Album view for podcasts. Create a smart playlist which adds all podcasts ("is kind podcast"). Select Music > Playlist. Select the smart playlist on the left. Gives you nice album view for podcasts. Also in the new mini viewer you can choose between podcasts in the pop up list.
    No podcast syncing yet though.
Also it would be nice if you could force permanent cover art for podcasts. So many are missing even though they have a cover in iTunes.

  • Hi my iphone won't sync any music at all. It gets stuck at the 2nd song saying the song is not there to be copied but it is and it doesnt copy anything over. I'm using an iphone 3GS (4.3.3) and up to date itunes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi
    I'm using a 3GS (4.3.3) and itunes 10 2.2.12
When trying to sync my music my phone begins the syncing process, back up and preparing etc. Once it begins actually syncing it seems to get stuck on song 2 of 1500. After about 5-10mins a message appears saying song 2 of 1500 can not be copied because it can not be copied or read. Thats it. It doesn't try to sync the rest it just stops. The music is definitely available and it seems to have no problems syncing any podcasts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Remove the song in question from the sync list and see if the rectifies the problem.
If it does, then iTunes believes the song no longer exists on your drive and that will need to be corrected.

how can i sync my music from my apple pc to my iphone 4s

    Syncing with iTunes
Syncing with iTunes copies information from your computer to iPhone, and vice versa. You can
sync by connecting iPhone to your computer, or you can set up iTunes to sync wirelessly with
Wi-Fi. You can set iTunes to sync music, photos, videos, podcasts, apps, and more. For information
about syncing iPhone with your computer, open iTunes, then choose iTunes Help from the
    Help menu.
Set up wireless iTunes syncing: Connect iPhone to your computer. In iTunes on the computer,
select your iPhone (under Devices), click Summary, then turn on “Sync over Wi-Fi connection.”
When Wi-Fi syncing is turned on, iPhone syncs every day. iPhone must be connected to a power
source, iPhone and your computer must both be on the same wireless network, and iTunes must
be open on your computer. For more information, see iTunes Wi-Fi Sync on page 136.
    Tips for syncing with iTunes
    • If you use iCloud to store your contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and notes, don’t also sync them
    to your device using iTunes.
    • Purchases you make from the iTunes Store or the App Store on iPhone are synced back to your
iTunes library. You can also purchase or download content and apps from the iTunes Store on
your computer, and then sync them to iPhone.
    • In the device’s Summary pane, you can set iTunes to automatically sync when your device is
attached to your computer. To temporarily override this setting, hold down Command and
Option (Mac) or Shift and Control (PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar.
    • In the device’s Summary pane, select “Encrypt iPhone backup” if you want to encrypt the
information stored on your computer when iTunes makes a backup. Encrypted backups are
indicated by a lock icon  , and a separate password is required to restore the backup. If you
don’t select this option, other passwords (such as those for mail accounts) aren’t included in
the backup and will have to be reentered if you use the backup to restore the device.
    • In the device’s Info pane, when you sync mail accounts, only the settings are transferred from
your computer to iPhone. Changes you make to an email account on iPhone don’t affect the
    account on your computer.
    • In the device’s Info pane, click Advanced to select options to let you replace the information on
iPhone with the information from your computer during the next sync.
    • If you listen to part of a podcast or audiobook, the place you left off is included if you sync
the content with iTunes. If you started listening on iPhone, you can pick up where you left off
using iTunes on your computer—or vice versa.
    • In the device’s Photo pane, you can sync photos and videos from a folder on your computer.

  • Any one reliably figure out Podcast syncing ?

    Hello,
My favourite promised feature for iTunes 11 was iCloud Podcast syncing. I'd have a list of subscriptions in iTunes on my Mac, I'd sync my iPhone once so it knew what my subscriptions were, and from then on my Mac and iPhone would be in sync. That means if a new episode is download on my Mac, it also downloads on my iPhone. If an episode is deleted on my Mac or iPhone, it is deleted everywhere, and very importantly the position is also synced.
I've now tried several times and several methods to get it to work, and the best I've gotten it to work a mishmash.
Here is what is in the unplayed section on my Mac :
DecodeDC - 1 podcast 90% of the way through
Infinite Longbox - 1 unplayed podcast
Make Talk - 1 unplayed podcast
New Distruptor - 1 podcast 65% of the way through
Nintendo Voice Chat - 60% of the way through
StarTalk Radio Show - 4 unplayed episodes. 2 90% played. Total of 6
Under the Influence CBC - 1 episode 98% finished
    8-4 Play - 1 unplayed episode
Here is what is on my iPhone (This is the closest I've gotten it - it asked if I wanted to sync with other devices). I've tried both the Music app and the Podcast app :
DecodeDC - 2 unplayed podcast. :: Incorrect count. Incorrect played position.
Infinite Longbox - not present :: Incorrect
Make Talk - 1 unplayed podcast :: Correct
New Distruptor - 1 unplayed podcast :: Incorrect position
Nintendo Voice Chat - 1 unplayed podcast :: Incorrect played position.
StarTalk Radio Show - 7 podcasts :: Incorrect count. Correct position !
Under the Influence CBC - 1 unplayed podcast :: Incorrect position
No 8-4 - not on list :: Incorrect
I'm not testing by jumping between my mac and iphone either, I give it a bit of time. I even try to quit iTunes to give it push.
Any hints or tips ? This would be a tremendous feature if it actually worked.

FlowLayout is generally not a good top ContainerLayout.
I am not debating that. I agree BorderLayout is a
better top level LayoutManager (which is why I made
the earlier assumption that Applets also use a
    BorderLayout).
I realize that you aren't - in fact, I did not take you to be debatinganything. I added that piece of information merely to explain why I changed the Layout Manager - in order to add the JButtons where I wanted them to be - which is admittedly not where the OP might want them.
I am questioning how using a BorderLayout causes the
children to be painted, even though the paint()
    method does not invoke super.paint().
I have not intentionally avoided calling super.paint. As I said, I do not know the real reason. But this has worked before, and I believe it has to do with adding the two JButton Components to another Panel; because if you simply add them BorderLayout.NORTH and BorderLayout.SOUTH it won't help.

  • Think I erased my ipod by clicking "sync all music & video" now more probs

Hi all...I clicked on "sync all music & video" within itunes & I watched in horror as my 1000+ songs were erased as well as video. Is there a way to retrieve my music & video from my pc? I checked the itunes folder & all that was there were podcasts. Didn't see anything in recycle bin.
I have accepted that I may be SOL so I uninstalled itunes but now I can't add music from my pc to ipod.
In itunes I see my ipod listed but I cannot create a new playlist under my ipod name the way I use to. I use to be able to create playlist under my ipod then drag folder of mp3's to that playlist. But now I can't. I did manage to add a cd to my ipod but after sync...the tracks are greyed out & not selectable. I cannot manually select them & do anything like delete etc. What have I done? I don't even see the restore option in itunes to restore back to factory settings & I did the itunes upgrade.
    Thanks Folks!

Scratch the part about not being able to restore to factory settings. I just did that. I'm about to see if this helped as far as adding music.

  • Syncing only Music - is it possible without wiping out contacts on iPhone?

I have my iPhone synced with my laptop at home but since we're allowed to use iTunes at work, my library at work has become much larger and I'd like to transfer my music here onto my iPhone but I'm worried it will wipe out my contacts. My apps are already synced with iTunes at work, and I tried syncing the music but a message pops up that says "this phone is synced with another computer. Are you sure you want to erase the contents and replace it with the contents of this iTunes library?" so I hit cancel because that message somewhat worries me. I do not have any videos or photos or podcasts on the phone so I'm not worried about that but if I lose the contacts I have no way of getting some of them back since I've entered some of them directly into the phone in the past few months. Help!!

Contacts are not affected by the erase. In fact, unlike music, you can sync contacts/calendars with multiple computers.

  • I have music on my ipod that is no longer on my pc. How can I sync new music that is on my pc to my ipod without loosing the music that is currently on the ipod?

When  I try to sync new music I have to my ipod itunes tells me it will erase all existing content on my ipod and replace it with the new content. My question is: How can I add my new music without loosing my old music?

  • I upgraded my iphone 3GS and now it won't play sounds from apps or music. I also cannot sync my music onto my phone.. PLEASE HELP! :(

    Hi Guys
I recently upgraded my iphone 3GS to the new ioS 5.1. After I did this and synced my phone, it won't let me play any audio from apps, itunes or music. It will allow the phone to ring but that is all. When I use viber I have to press this button and change it from docking to iphone. I take it that the phone thinks I'm permanently on a docking system.
It also will not sync my music back to my phone. My music is on itunes but it won't let it sync.
I have restored my phone twice and it still won't work - HELP!! Please???

Your device is broken.  If you want a device that works better than the one you have now, then you'll either need to bring your phone into Apple for out of warranty exchange ($149), or find a 3rd party repair shop in your area and see what they can do, if anything at all.
