Podcasts with a fee

I first posted this on the Podcast/Radio portion of this forum, but received no replies.
I have subscribed to the new Al Franken podcast which now charges a fee each month. The problem is that everytime I boot up my computer, and it checks for new podcasts, I have to re-enter my ID and password. Is there a way around this?
Thanks -

Subsequent version of iTunes fixed this problem.

  • How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?

Like the subject line says: How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?
With the previous version of iTunes, when I plugged in my iPod, I could select the iPod, select podcasts, and manually delete episodes. With the new iTunes, I can't select individual episodes when looking at my iPod through iTunes. Is my only option to Sync? If so, why is that my only option?
This question probably has a simple answer, and I'm just not seeing it.

    Rock,
I think I figured out a way to do what you want to do - which is the same way that I use Itunes with my Ipod. (My Itunes libary was destroyed last year so I can no longer auto synch my Ipod as I would lose thousands of songs).
Funnily enough, I discovered this new way of manually moving podcasts while trying to figure out what cpragman was trying to say (I never could - he must be smarter than me, as I couldn't get his method to work).
    1. Open up your Itunes in your regular Library view. Choose Pocasts from the left hand side (either in the sidebar if you have that enabled, or from the little "radio" icon if you don't.)
    2. Mouse to the podcast you want to place on your Ipod.
    3. Right-click it.  A long menu will pop up.
    4. Move to the "Add to Playlist" option.  As you hover, all your playlists will be visible. But at the very top will be the name of your Ipod itself (whatever you named it originally).  Choose THAT name, and voila! That podcast will now copy to your Ipod and be easily available when you disconnect.
A nice feature of this method is that you can shift-click several podcasts at once and do the same thing, and all your selected podcasts will copy over (if you're like me and update your Ipod only every few weeks).
Hope this helps - let me know if it works for you!

Can we have multiple Podcasts with the same Mac Account?
For example, I have a single .MAC account and create a website with multiple Podcast pages...or within iWeb I create multiple sites, and each has a podcast.
    Is there a problem?

    Hi there
Sorry, but your post seemed to initially infer you were just referring to a Button you would insert on a page. At least that's what I understood when I posted with what I did.
Now it would seem you are referring to the Playback Controls that Captivate supplies? So either I grossly misunderstood your initial issue or you are now switching gears and asking about something different.
What I posted earlier does not apply to the Captivate Playback Controls.

  • IPod requires hard reset after playing podcast with chapters

I've noticed that I need to do a hard reset (hold down menu and select buttons for a few seconds) after my iPod goes idle after playing a podcast with chapters (the Ricky Gervais show).
    Anyone else have this problem?

Can reproduce the problem on a 20GB 4G and 6GB mini
with another podcast series with chapters
(fortunately not many I listen to have caught up with
    chaptering).
The odd behaviour I've noticed is that the Ricky
Gervais podcast, for example, only has to be present
on the iPod and never listened to for the iPod/s to
lock up when they go to sleep. A hard reset then
required to bring them back to life until the podcast
has been listened to and the iPod/s then resync'ed
with the mothership to then remove it (and restore
some sanity until the next one).
I did conduct a hard restart of my 10GB iPod with no success. The only workaround solution I've discovered is to use the "Convert Selection to AAC" under the Advance menu in iTunes while selecting the podcast. It converts the podcast to a new AAC file without chapters, and it plays fine on my second gen iPod. But now my library has 2 copies of each podcast, one for iTunes, one for iPod. Anyone else have any luck with the 10GB iPod? I guess it doesn't like the new podcasts with chapters.

  • Update all podcasts with one click

How do I update all podcasts with the new iTunes?

That's 3 clicks.  Alternatively you can left click on list then click the refresh button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, but that is also not one click.  It seems the goal of the geniuses behind iTunes 11's interface was to make every action go from 1 mouse click to 2, thus making the software slower and more cumbersome to use.
Is it really too much to ask to have a global refresh button in the podcast view in addition to the list view?  Apparently so.  Oh, and why did they disable the sidebar by default?  Without it, you'll never guess what happens.  Oh you did?  Yup it takes 2 clicks to switch from music to podcasts instead of one.

  • How to delete podcasts with the iclould icon?

How to delete podcasts with the iclould icon?

That is discouraging.  However I do notice that if I view my podcasts in My Podcasts mode they are grouped and sorted better than in Unplayed mode and the ones in the cloud are not shown. However although I prefer the one window view of List mode to the two windows My Podcast mode, My Podcast mode does at least indicate how many unplayed episodes I have from each podcast.  This would almost be acceptable except that partially listened to podcasts, while still there, can only be identified by highlighting the podcast title on the lefthand sidebar, (although the number of completely unplayed episodes are listed on the left hand sidebar).  As someone who often listens to a podcast over two or more days I fear I could forget which ones I have only partially listened to and would have to go down the entire left hand sidebar list highlighting each podcast to remind myself.  I really find the List mode the most informative and easiest way to view my podcasts and really wish Apple had not messed with it

  • Can I share copyrighted podcasts with others?

    Hi,
I'd like to make a playlist of existing business advise podcasts, for my clients, via iTunes.   Most of these podcasts are copyrighted.  Can I legally share copyrighted podcasts with others?   I would not rebrand/rename the podcast in any way, I would just be sharing the these podcasts in their original state.
    Thanks!

Legally, no, you cannot give them to others. If you want them to listen to them, then send the links for the podcasts or a download source they can use.

  • Downloaded podcast with ipod touch 2g showing like video

    Hello.
I have ipod touch 2g. When i download audio podcast with ipod touch its showing like it is video podcast. After connecting ipod touch with PC all ok showing like audio podcast. What could be wrong? Sorry if i posted in wrong place.
    Thanks

I already have the Radio Tiesto episode 110 on my Touch (2G), it does not show as video and when I started it running, it played as audio only, as I expect. So why yours should show as video, I've no idea. Episode 80 of the "State of Trance" is no longer showing up in iTunes, so I'm currently downloading ep81, which looks as though it is an audio file. I'll post again if I discover it's not. I already have ep77, but that's on my Classic. However, in iTunes it shows as audio.
So, I've no idea why this should be, although as you noted, it only happens when you download directly onto the Touch. Perhaps you need to report a bug via feedback, sorry, I can't find the page to link to at the moment.
The best workaround for now would be to subscribe in iTunes, let iTunes download them when you are there (but you can set iTunes to automatically download when you are away) and then Sync episodes.

  • Can I still make a playlist of podcasts with the new podcast app?

Can I still make a playlist of podcasts with the new podcast app?

No, for some reason it's not included as one of the features of the Podcast App.
If you need playlists (as many of us do), then delete the Podcast App and podcasts will return to the music app, complete with podcast playlist functionality.

  • ITunes will not sync podcasts with iPod touch

I've tried just about everything I know and consulted the internet, but I cannot get iTunes to sync my podcasts with my iPod Touch. It will sync my music, but it simply will not sync any of my podcasts. It must be something simple, but I've exhausted my knowledge on this issue. It worked fine on my desktop, but when I tried to move it over to my laptop, it just wouldn't work, no matter what I try. Call me an idiot or whatever you need to do if this is something stupid, but please, help me get my podcasts back!

  • Podcast with garageband

I created a podcast with garageband, sent it to iweb to host on my site, submitted it to itunes from iweb. It was just approved today but when I looked at it there is a link back to my page where the podcast is hosted and I want it removed. How do I go about removing that link?

I've not used iWeb for podcasting, but I ran a quick test and as I expected it fills in the 'link' tag in the feed (from which the iTunes Store page gets the site URL) with the URL of the podcast page. I can see no way of preventing it from doing this: you could edit the actual feed (you'd have to publish, download it, remove the URL, and upload it again) but you would have to do that every time you publish a new episode as obviously iWeb will overwrite the feed.
The advantage of iWeb is that with no experience you can turn out quite effective sites and podcasts: but the disadvantage is that you get very little scope for customization.

Very doubtful, but if you have insurance, you would need to talk to them regarding replacement and any deductible you may have to pay.

  • Can not play podcast with voice control command

Is there any way to play a podcast with voice commands? I've been trying everything, "Play podcast Science Friday", "Play NPR Science Friday", "Play This American Life". I'm pretty sure Apple left this feature out. I thought they would have fixed it by iOS4. It's nice they added, "What time is it?" but I think this would be more useful. While I'm driving, sometimes I like to listen to music, sometimes I like to listen to podcasts.
I'm surprised more people haven't complained about this. Can we please elevate this to a bug/feature request?
    Thanks

I've always had this problem, where "play" and "pause" does not work with podcasts through voice commands, which is rather dangerous when I'm driving and have to fumble with the touchscreen while using an A2DP headset. I don't usually have any music loaded, since I prefer listening to podcasts, Pandora or FM radio. Yesterday, I synced ONE song onto my iPhone, and suddenly it works with podcasts. I then removed it and it stopped working again. Apparently, if there is no music iPhone thinks that there is nothing to play, even if there are podcasts, which is a pretty stupid BUG. I still have not been able to play artists or titles, but now I can say "play playlist <list-name>" or "play" to resume a podcast that is paused.
Of course, no matter what I say, half the time it dials a random number from my contacts!

  • Podcast with 80+ episodes suddenly showing zero items (?!)

    Hello!
It appears that Dec 26th something happened which caused the episodes to drop from my iTunes page: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/silken-on-sex/id346614694
To troubleshoot the problem, I have done the following:
    -checked the site
    -verified the media URLs work
-validated the feed (http://feeds.feedburner.com/SilkenvoicePodcast) on feedvalidator.org
-added a new podcast episode and pinged the apple server
    All to no avail.
Interestingly enough, when I do a search for the podcast by title, I can see one episode from a year ago and it can be played so long as you're not on the podcast page. Weird, eh?
The "Silken on Sex Podcast" normally has 40k-50k downloads a month. It has 4+ stars with 50+ ratings, and has been around for many months. I know some people will probably think "oooh, explicit content, that's why" but that isn't correct. If that were the case, it would have been taken down by iTunes staff -- and besides, there are several podcasts with far more explicit content than mine
I'm at wit's end and I'd love some help.
    Warmly yours,
    Kayar

There is no obvious explanation for this. The feed itself is OK. However it doesn't contain anything like 80 episodes - in fact there are 20, though 'Pathos, Eros and Aramis' contains no media file (and so will not appear in iTunes').
If you click the 'subscribe' button in the Store page, all 19 functioning episodes appear. However as you say there are none in the Store page.
I can think of only one explanation for this. As you may know, although when on subscribing the iTunes application reads the feed directly (and so is always up to date), the Store caches the feed and visits it periodically to check for updates: so changes can take 1-2 days to appear (recently it's often been longer).
If, for example, you had been tampering with the feed and had removed all the episodes, restoring them (or some of them) later, and the Store happened to check it while it was empty, you would get the result you have now, and it would self-correct eventually. (Though it seems unlikely you would empty the feed and then reupload it). There may have been some sort of glitch which caused a similar effect.
All I can suggest is that you wait for a few days. As subscribing works OK, it's possible the Store will update again and show the 19 episodes. There have occasionally been cases where something in the feed causes it to work for subscribers but not on the Store, but I can't see anything problematic in the feed (obviously I can't read through every word). However if that had been the case I would have expected older episodes to show, just not more recent ones. The complete disappearance of episodes is unusual, to say the least.
I should give it a few days. If it doesn't sort itself out you could try iTunes Support, but I have to say you are unlikely to get a helpful response (you will probably be sent a form answer telling you how to make a feed). Or you could try asking Feedburner Support whether they have any ideas.
To contact iTunes Support go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options.
