Podcasts without iTunes

This has probably been asked and answered but my cursory searches didn't find the answer.
I have an iPod Mini whose music library I manage at home. That's just how I want it. But I also want to be able to load podcasts into it at work (during lunch, for example) without installing iTunes on my work computer.
Is there a way to do this? Or do I have to do all my updating from one computer that has iTunes?
Thanks,
Mark

Hello,
I don't believe you can put podcasts on your iPod without iTunes.
Of course, here's a way you can put them on using iTunes:
Connect your iPod to your computer.
Go to Edit->Preferences->iPod, and select your setting to "manually manage music". That way, you can go under the "Podcasts" directory (over in the left source area), Select certain episodes with "Shift", then drag-and-drop them under the name of your iPod.
Any more questions? I hope to help you again.

  • Subscribing to podcast without itunes

    Hey everyone
I produce a podcast, which is going really well! I'm starting to do some advertising and I'm creating a webpage that explains how to get the show. I've shown a option where the user can get the show without itunes but I don't know the best way to do this. I was wondering if anyone has a program or website that has a simple way for windows users to subscribe to podcast?
    Thanks
    Bevan

Thanks for the offer to help. Here is the website:
    http://web.mac.com/mgimbel/iWeb/Site%204/Podcast/Podcast.html
I'm not sure how to find the RSS file to send. ??
In case you're not familiar with the how the process is SUPPOSED to work between Garage Band, iWeb and iTunes, it should be a simple, 3-step AUTOMATED process:
    1. in Garage Band, you choose "send podcast to iWeb". This exports the current project to an iWeb page as a podcast. (This works)
    2. in iWeb, you publish the newly created page containing the podcast. I use .Mac, so my pages are automatically published to my .Mac account. (This also works)
    3. On the webpage at the website containing the podcast, there is a button to "subscribe" to the podcast. When you click this, it is supposed to create a podcast entry in your iTunes library, under My Podcasts. (This is where the process stops working: the entry is created in iTunes, but it does not work - i.e., it does not appear to point correctly to the podcast itself, but instead to the webpage in general that contains the podcast, and iTunes can not identify the podcast from this.)
Hopefully, that helps. Sorry if you were already familiar with the process.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

  • There are only App Store/Books/Podcasts and ITune U on my Itunes store heading without MUSIC, why?

There are only App Store/Books/Podcasts and ITune on my Itune store heading, why? This means I cannot order music as a Hong Kong subscriber?

That's correct.  It seems that music is not yet available in the Hong Kong store.

  • How do I hide old podcasts in iTunes 11.1 and What's Up with the New Podcast Pane?

FIrst of all, I'm having fits with this "new" way of managing podcasts.
For years, I have managed the podcasts on my iPod (and now my iPhone 5) by manually syncing the device with my subscribed podcasts in iTunes. I have iTunes set to download the most recent episode of each of my podcasts and to keep all episodes until I delete them. Some podcasts I listen to or view only my MacBook Pro and I don't sync these to my iPhone. This has worked fine for years.
I moved to Apple's dedicated Podcasting app when I purchased my iPhone 5 earlier this year, but I maintained the manual syncing as I had done, using the app only to play the podcasts, not to subscribe to or download them.
I upgraded my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 to iOS 7 on launch day and downloaded iTunes 11.1 to my MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.8.5. The iOS upgrades went flawlessly for both of my devices, but iTunes has been a problem. It was sluggish when I first opened it, with lots of spinning beach balls. When I opened it for the first time, I went to the Podcast section and to my list of podcasts. They all now had "Subscribe" buttons by each of them (I was already subscribed to the podcasts in iTunes before the update). I assumed that I had to click the buttons to activate subscriptions in iTunes, but low and behold I discovered that it subscribed my iPhone 5's podcast app to ALL of the podcasts in my list (even ones that I don't put on the iPhone). It also started DOWNLOADING all of the episodes of these podcasts to my iPhone which, had I let it continue, would have eaten all of my bandwidth on Verizon for the month (and then some), plus the iPhone would have been filled up long before it could finish downloading the episodes.
I managed to get the iPhone's Podcast app to stop downloading these episodes, then I manually deleted all of the podcasts that didn't belong on the iPhone. I then had to go through all of the podcasts in the app and click a yellow box that said they hadn't been updated and wouldn't resum updating until I clicked the box.
Then I went back to iTunes 11.1, where I discovered that ALL the podcast episodes for my subscriptions that are still available for download in their feeds were now listed (2,000+ episodes), with previously listened-to episodes now showing with a cloud download icon next to them. Even more frustrating, I can't delete these from iTunes even though I've already listened to them and, even more frustratingly, the "Subscribe" button remains by each podcast in the list.
All I want to do is remove these previously-listened to podcasts from my lists, remove the subscribe buttons (since I'm already subscribed in iTunes), and continue to manually sync my iPhone's podcasts with iTunes as before. What do I have to do to make this happen? And if these are new "features" of the new iTunes, please share with your team that, while there are many who update wirelessly over their cell carrier's bandwidth, others of us don't have the capability (or desire) to do things this way and we want to switch this off and return to the "old" way of doing things.
Any ideas on how to fix iTunes 11.1 to return to the old way of doing things would be greatly appreciated!

What really cheeses me off here is that Apple isn't allowing users enough customization.  With each update of iTunes (and the OS and iOS) we're forced to give up something that worked well for the way we want to use the app and make do with fewer (and lamer) options.  If Apple keeps this up, they're going to start losing customers fast.  I mean if this isn't fixed soon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up on iTunes, and then I'll probably go ahead and get a Galaxy when I need to replace my iPhone.
What I don't understand about how they won't let users delete the list of available podcasts now is why?  How is this making it a better program?  I can understand that not all users are capable enough to right-click on a feed and select "Show all available episodes", so I can see why they want the complete list to be the default (and, surprise, it already was).  But to not give users the option to delete that list?  It's inconsiderate because it makes navigating feeds with a large back catalogue really frustrating.  I'm flabbergasted that no one at Apple considered all the podcast feeds that keep hundreds of episodes available when they removed this feature.  It smacks of rank incompetence.
What improvement were they trying to make here anyway?  There was nothing wrong to my mind about how podcasts were managed in previous versions.  Whatever improvement they were trying to make here, they should have realized that many users would at least want the option to keep things the way they were.
And reverting to a previous version is no solution.  I can't sync my iPhone with the new iOS without this update, and (while I do have some issues--specifically how you can't play podcasts in the Music app anymore) I do like the new iOS.

  • How do you remove ALL of my Podcasts from iTunes !!

    Hi,
having read several topics I am glad, but also sad, to know that I am not the only one having problems with submitting Podcasts onto iTunes. I have one which is still showing the 'Old' art cover, asked iTunes to remove and got nowhere, it is still there. Submitted it again this time with a New Art Cover and guess what it appeared 3 times all without the Art Cover ( it came up with the Purple Podcast art cover ), asked to get that removed and guess what --- it's still there, all linked to DEAD web links.
So here's my question, I have several Podcasts ( all for my University, until there Xserve is up and running ) on my DotMac account, HOW do I get everything removed from iTunes so that I can start all over again. I mean wipe the whole lot off iTunes - remove - kill, what ever !!!
I have even tried to follow the instructions on the iTunes 'Podcast Making' site on how to 'Remove' - guess what, you can't why I hear you ask because the instructions don't match up with what you see in iTunes/podcasts. See below the instructions from iTunes on how to remove:
    Removing or Blocking Your Feed.
If you are no longer creating a podcast and you want it removed from iTunes, you should:
    Log into iTunes.
    Find and select your podcast.
    Click on Report a Concern.
Select *"_is mine and I want it removed from the Music Store_"* from the Choose a Reason menu.
Explain why you want the podcast removed.
Note the part "is mine and I want it removed from the Music store" This option does not appear in the "Choose a reason menu" . Have not iTunes/Apple noticed this little error.
So back to my question - How do I remove 'everything' ??
I use iWeb, submit to my DotMac account and then submit to iTunes/Podcasts.
    Any help would be grateful.

  • How can I play multiple episodes of a podcast in iTunes 11?

Hi there - I'm subscribing to a number of podcasts in iTunes 11. I would like to play multiple episodes of a podcast one after the other without having to start each one separately, and preferably without having to create a playlist each time. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I do not have an 'My Podcasts' option.  Ihave Podcasts and On this IPod
In Podcasts if I click on a podcasts no options display.
Also, why do some of my podcasts now delete automatically after they have been played and some do not.
I have my Settings set to not auto delete
I have to say that Apple seems to screw more things up than it fixes.  I would suggest when you include new options you default it to keep it as it was before upgrade so people can choose to use it and not have to reset things not to use it

  • How to delete tune without iTunes

    Hi,
I have a problem, I have some old podcast which I like to keep on my harddrive. Then I got the ipod, so I want to store the podcast episodes there. But dragging direct from Finder to ipod show me it copied but didn't appear under podcast. I found out after a few trial and error that I should have added the podcast to iTunes before dragging into ipod. So...
Good : Finder -> iTunes Podcast -> iPod
    Bad : Finder -> iPod
So now those files I drag direct from finder into ipod are in the ipod but I can't get rid of them, cause they don't show up in the iTunes list. It shows up in Senuti and iPodDisk, but both don't allow me to delete the song. Now I can't drag those podcast episodes in to ipod from iTunes podcast anymore. It somehow recognise that the file exist on the ipod but wouldn't list it on the podcast.
So, back to the question, How to delete tune without iTunes?? thanks

Did you try using the Finder? I'm trying to accomplish similar management tasks. Finder seems far superior to itune management, for podcasts management. This might work-- First quit itunes.
Use a finder window, not spotlight, search itunes and single-click on any folder by that name. Notice which of these files is in your startup disc (in case you have other bootable drives connected)-- Notice the little icons on the bottom of the Finder window. Double click on "iTunes Music" at the window bottom. A new Finder window should open. I recomend the list mode, selectable at the top left of Finder window. Now you should be able to view all your itune- contents on the computer. It seems these files can be deleted, but one must remeber to empty trash before going further. Unfortunately this approach won't allow adding new folders that will show up in itunes.

  • How can I remove a podcast from iTunes if iTunes is locked up.

I added a password protected podcast and iTunes locks up on the authentication dialog. Spinning beachball... only thing I can do is force quit.
Earlier solution was to go in and manually disable podcasts with Xcode. but then i can't play any of my podcasts.
The recent itunes update fixed the problem, sort of. it allowed me to use itunes normally again. But, I tried to subscribe to the podcast agin and... yup, same thing.
How can I remove that podcast from iTunes without using iTunes to remove it?
    HELP!!!!

ROGER, I AM SORRY I DIDN'T GIVE YOU THE 10 POINT RATING. I DIDN'T REALIZE IT MADE A DIFFERENCE AND THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS NOT WITH YOUR RESPONSE, WHICH WAS RIGHT ON, BUT WITH THE WAY THE SYSTEM WORKS.
    REGARDS, JEANNE

  • Inability to Sync Checked Podcasts in iTunes 7.6.2

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's no longer possible to sync only checked podcassts in iTunes 7.6.2. There wasn't a straight forward way of doing this in earlier versions. (If I'm not mistaken, you checked "Manually manage music" and "Sync only checked songs" on the Summary tab and unchecked the top Sync option on the Podcasts tab.) Now, even the back-door method doesn't seem to work. (In 7.6.2, iTunes will no longer sync your iPod if the top, Sync option on the Podcasts tab is not checked and/or "Manually manage music" is checked.)
It is possible to manually drag podcasts without snycing. But without syncing, I'm afraid iTunes won't keep track of what you've played nor where you are in each podcast. (I find this critical when podcasts have accumulated lots of episodes and you need a quick way in iTunes of tracking what you heard already and don't want on your iPod. And it's important to sync where you are in a podcast if you are shifting between iTunes and the iPod when listening to long episodes.)
The fix is easy and clear I think. Apple simply needs to add "all checked" after "all" in the drop down list given with the Sync option on the Podcasts tab.
    Thoughts?

I am having the same problem. It seems thta Apple has caused quite a problem for us.

  • I have been trying to publish my podcast to iTunes with no success – I keep getting the following error message

I have been trying to publish my podcast to iTunes with no success – I keep getting the following error message
We could not complete your iTunes store request. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later.
New to all this and would really appreciate some help.
    Thanks in advance
PS: I should say that I have an ITunes account - I have full permissions over the website etc. I am using Powerpress plug in on a wordpress site.

My guess would be that you've fallen over a glitch in the Store, in which case all you can do is wait a bit and try again, but it is only a guess. Without being able to look at your feed it's not possible to say whether there might be a problem there.

  • Can you get songs on the ipod without itunes?

    like you can on ipods?
use your own music on it to save you buying every song.

    like you can on ipods?
I think if you google "ipod without itunes" or "iphone without itunes" you'll get plenty of hits with interesting suggestions.
use your own music on it to save you buying every song.
Just because you use iTunes doesn't mean you have to buy every song from Apple's store. You can import your existing CDs or MP3s into iTunes without buying them again. You can use iTunes to manage your existing collection of music, and not buy any new music. (The vast majority of my music collection was ripped from CDs, not purchased from Apple's store.) Also iTunes has wonderful integration with free sources of audio content including podcasts, iTunes U, etc.
In my opinion, the main reason to get an iPod or iPhone is for the seamless integration with iTunes. If you decide you don't want to use iTunes, you probably are dealing with slightly more cumbersome music integration which is probably no better or no worse than any of the other MP3 players out there.
Reading between the lines of your original post, if you're concerned about getting locked into Apple's proprietary world when managing your music in iTunes, you consider using an industry standard format, like MP3, rather than Apple's proprietary file formats, such as AAC. Specifically, in iTunes, go to preferences, go to the "When you insert CD section", click on "Import Settings", and change from AAC to something like MP3. Not as efficient way of storing the music, but you're also not locked into Apple's file formats (and thus just Apple hardware/software). But if you expect to stay with iPods and similar Apple players, AAC is a fine format. But for those of us who play music on other players too (e.g. my TiVo), MP3 is a more flexible format.

  • My Podcast in iTunes is showing Zero Episodes

I have a podcast in iTunes that isn't showing any available episodes, when it has been okay for a couple weeks with no changes to the RSS feed. I've looked through other messages on this forum, but didn't find an answer.
    What could be causing this?
    iTunes Feed: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/expert-enough/id489503775
    RSS Feed: feed://feeds.feedburner.com/expertenough
Thanks in advance for the help!

None of your episodes have playable media: it's necessary for each episode to have an 'enclosure' tag containing the URL of a media file - mp3. m4a, mp4, m4v, or mov - without this iTunes will not display the episodes. You say it was working before, so something has been done to the feed to change it.
Following the link from the top episode:
    http://expertenough.com/1123/18-expert-quotes
produces what is basically a weblog entry with no sign of any media.

  • Problem uloading podcast to iTunes: "this feed has no episodes"

    Hey guys,
I have been trying to upload my podcast to iTunes.
The RSS feed of the show is this: http://syn.org.au/not_used/2662
When I entered this into the iTunes page it said "this feed has no episodes."
So I went to the website www.feedburner.com and followed the instructions.
They gave me a new feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/org/topfiveblank
When I entered this the same message appeared.
    What should I do?

    IngmarHerzog wrote:
If I re-uploaded the episodes to the original RSS feed without the spaces would the feed be recognised by iTunes?
No, because the feed is not formatted as a podcast feed (though it's a start!). You have to construct a feed which complies to the format demonstrated in the page I linked to, or use a podcast creation program or service to construct the feed for you.
I can't advise on hosting service. Be careful with free ones: they have to get their money somehow and it often involves adverts being added. Media files hosted this way sometimes turn up in web pages offering playing or download, and this won't work: the hosting has to offer unencumbered direct access to the feed and media files.

  • HT5295 can I listen to podcasts without podcast app on my iphone?

I have an iPhone 4. I just upgraded to ios 6.0 including Podcasts app. I listen to 8-10 podcasts a day and with the older ios I still had plenty of battery life to make it to the end of the day.
Now if I listen to 4 or 5 podcasts my battery is already down to half. I have looked at the prefs and did not see where I can reduce the battery usage.
Is anyone else have this problem? Is there any remedy that has been posted? Is there a way to listen to podcasts without using the Podcasts app?
    Thanks.

I am assuming your podcasts also appear in itunes on your computer and if so you should be able to listen to them there.

can i save a podcast without taking up space on nano 6, i keep getting error message space is used up but I don't want to lose the podcast episode for the future

Sorry to be such a moron with this, but I just don't have much experience with this iPad.  I have had it for over a year and I just keep adding stuff to it and it has worked great.  Now that the memory is used up, I am trying to figure out how to free up space and not lose what I have paid for.
So, Step 1 is complete, as I have "Transferred" all of the purchases.
What is Step 2?  I unchecked the concert on the iTunes library, did a sync, but it's still on my iPad.
    Thanks again for the help!!!
