Podcasts won't delete

There are a few podcasts in my library that have been deleted, but that refuse to go away. They do not show up in the "Podcasts" list, and so I can't remove them from there. But they're still in the library -- they show up in smart playlists and on my Apple TV when streaming. They're also still on the disk.
Obviously a bug. Anybody experienced something similar? How do I get rid of them?
I could delete the files, of course. But the entries would still be in my library. Are there maybe 3rd-party tools out that would let me delete things from my library? Applescript?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

That's it!!! I am so happy. I had tried alt and ctrl but not shift.
I was afraid that I'd have to backup all my playlists, delete the files outside of iTunes, rebuild my library, re-import all my playlists . . . it would have been a huge pain. You saved me. Many thanks!

The sync function on my 3rd gen iPod Touch doesn't work properly.  It won't sync all the podcasts I've downloaded, and it won't delete ones I've listened to and deleted on iTunes.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Deleted podcasts won't go to the recycling bin

I'm running the newest version of iTunes, freshly installed, in Windows 7. Most of my podcasts come from a backup that I dragged and dropped into my iTunes folder. I've done this before without any issues. However, now whenever I try to delete a podcast that I haven't recently downloaded, it will give me a dialog stating that the podcast won't sync if I delete it, and then the buttons "Delete Podcast" and "Cancel" Rather than the "Keep File" "Remove to Recycling Bin" and "Cancel" that I'm used to. Deleting does not send the podcast into the recycling bin as it is supposed to and as it used to, however; it instead keeps the podcast in the same file and removes the instance from iTunes. I don't want to have to delete every file twice. Selecting all files and clicking on Allow Auto Delete changed nothing. Repairing my install of iTunes did not change anything. It seems as though all other instances of this issue are many years old. Assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.

  • Podcasts won't auto delete during update

I want my podcasts to automatically delete after I've listened to them. I have the ipod set on auto update songs and podcasts and to "keep all unplayed episodes." The podcasts just keep stacking up until I have to delete the whole library and start over.
I built a playlist for all played podcasts (play count greater than zero) but it won't let me even manually delete from the playlist.
    How do I do this.
    Thanks / Kozmo

Having exactly the same problem. I've posted this on a few Apple related forums already - although admittedly not this one - but no answers yet. I get the feeling that other people are getting this to work so it's not a Podcast app bug.
I'm deleting listened to podcasts manually by swiping right on the podcast once I've listened to it.
I don't understand what I might not be doing - I have the podcast subscribed to and auto-delete is switched on and set to keep unplayed episodes only.
I've tried leaving some for a while in case there's a 'schedule' of some sort for when these listened-to podcasts get deleted but nothing has happened so far..and that's after eight weeks!

  • ITunes won't delete old podcasts

I've seen other people mention this topic in other threads, but haven't seen any satisfactory resolution. For several months now, I've had a problem with iTunes where it won't auto-delete my old listened to podcasts like it's supposed to.
I have the "Podcasts" preferences set to check for new episodes every day, download all available episodes, and keep all unplayed episodes. When I listen to them on my iPod nano (first gen) and sync with iTunes, the little blue bullets disappear from the podcasts I've listened to as expected. However, the listened to podcasts don't delete themselves. It's a real pain to have to manage this by hand, and this is exactly the kind of thing that Apple is supposed to be making EASY for us.
iTunes also has a problem where old podcast episodes are randomly getting re-downloaded.
Both of these problems are very annoying. I'm really disappointed that Apple has done such a poor job of this. I realize this is turning into a gripe session, but seriously, I have three pretty major problems with podcasting using iTunes and iPod which Apple should really fix because I doubt if I'm the only one.
    1. Old podcasts are not getting deleted as they should (yes, this used to work, but it hasn't for some time).
    2. Really old podcasts (months old) randomly re-download themselves.
    3. The iPod still insists on sorting podcasts with the newest first rather than giving you an option to play from the oldest unlistened episode. Many podcasts go in sequence, so it's a pain to have to make a custom play list every time I want to listen going from oldest to newest.
    That's it.
    PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.5 GB RAM

YES!!! These are precisely the three issues I'm having with iTunes! I'm using an 80GB iPod Video, and I'm almost exclusively listening to podcasts (yay NPR!). They take up a lot of space on my hard drive because they're not auto-deleting. They delete off of my iPod ok (though it'd be a cool feature if it didn't delete unless it was listened to through the end, but that's nitpicking), but they pile up in my podcasts directory until I delete them manually, even though I have "keep new episodes" selected.
And please, allow for podcasts to play in chronological order on my iPod, oldest on top! I think I remember reading somewhere that having them appear the other way is actually touted as a benifit?
As for the random download of old episodes, I've had that, and it's annoying, but an easy enough thing to delete or skip, and mark as played on the mac.
I had the lack of updates problem for a while, I inexplicably lost Marketplace for several months, but now it's back... Those last two problem aren't Apple's fault, I suspect; just a result of several pieces to a puzzle needing to be exactly right in order to work correctly.
Thanks for re-introducing this topic, here's hoping for a solution!

I tried to do the instructions Adobe gave me but when
I put in the disc that came with my mac and hold down
C when it restarts it takes me to the screen to do a
    fresh install.
At that point go to the Menu & select Disk Utility - I can't remember exactly which menu but you should be able to find it easily... there isn't too much there
I went into the disk utility through the Apps folder
and for somereason the option to repair isnt
highlighted and it wont let me click it. I tried to
repair permissions/verify but it doesnt change
anything. I looked at the info and it says the volume
can be repaired, but it wont let me.
You can't Repair the disk the system is currently running the OS from - That's why you have to boot from the Installer disk (or some other start-up disk). Repair Disk addresses directory structure issues - totally separate from what Repair Permissions does.

  • My podcasts won't download from the computer to my ipod touch all of a sudden!

All of a sudden my podcasts won't download from the computer to the ipod touch anymore.  It still downloads changes in music and apps, but it just seems to be podcasts.  Can anybody help me diagnose my problem?

  • Itunes 7.0 and 1.1.2 - Podcasts won't sync -Firmware out of date

Anyone get they error? Apple please help soon. I was thinking about getting a MAC but not now.

I deleted the unplayed podcast episodes from iTunes, re-downloaded the deleted episodes, and synced with the iPod. That seems to have worked. The iPod shows the podcasts.
(After deleting the episodes, iTunes would not re-download them automatically. I had to go "get" the deleted episodes manually.)

  • ITunes under Vista won't delete my songs

    Hey guys.
I've recently updated to Windows Vista, and I'm running iTunes 7.3 with an iPod Nano.
Previously on my XP machine (with some ancient iTunes, 7.1 maybe?) I was able to select a track in my library, and either hit the Delete key or right-click and select the Delete option. This would spawn a dialogue - do I want to keep the files, or move to recycle bin (or cancel)?
Now under iTunes, when I delete a file, that dialogue is not there anymore, and deleting a file only removes it from the library view, rather than from my hard drive.
As an added piece of information, I was able to upgrade a purchased song to iTunes Plus. When you do this, there's a dialogue of similar nature offering to move the old file to the recycle bin or to keep it. This dialogue appears, but when selecting recycle it does no such thing
It's worth noting that all my music is in my iTunes Music folder, not anywhere else. I understand there can be a problem where if your music is not stored with iTunes, it won't delete the files. I don't believe this applies to my situation.
I only really noticed this by happenstance, and now I have my music collection full of tracks I don't want anymore, but no effective way of getting them back in. Why is this?
Well, that's peculiar thing #2. Previously I used to be able to just re-add my iTunes music folder, and iTunes would helpfully trawl through and add music in, ignoring tracks that already exist. It no longer does this - you can add the folder, but it creates a duplicate for each song that already exists. These duplicates are unrated with no previous play information - it's as if iTunes doesn't agree that they're the same track.
I'm wondering if these problems are related - if iTunes in some way is able to play my previous library just fine, manage ratings and so on, but is in some way confused about whether they're actually in the iTunes folder. XP and Vista have different file paths (C:\Documents and Settings\ in XP, C:\Users\ in Vista)... would this have something to do with it? I suspect that there's a Junction (like a hard link, but in Windows) in place to redirect C:\Documents and Settings\ to C:\Users\, but this behaviour is not unversally supported cleanly.
Is there a way of editing my library details to include the correct pathname if that's the problem?
Man, sorry about the long post But it's really bugging me, and obviously I don't want to have to re-add and re-rate 22 days of music...

Ok I think I fixed it
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313 describes that you can gank the binary file, and re-import using the XML document.
The trick is of course to:
    1. Close iTunes
    2. Gank the binary file
    3. Search and replace the music locations in the XML
    4. Start iTunes
    5. Import the XML file
This works, but there are some caveats (need to resynch the iPod, etc.). But yay, my files are once again being deleted.

  • How do you copy all podcast information (new/deleted/downloaded) from one computer to another.

I am changing my itunes computer and am trying to move my podcast subscriptions from the old machine to the new one.
I want the new computer to know
    * which podcasts feeds I have subscribed to
    * which podcasts I have deleted
    * which podcasts I currently have downloaded on the old machine, so it can download them on the new machine.
Currently I have only been able to get the feeds transferred.  The trouble with this is that this only automatically downloads the most recent entry - even of the podcasts that I am completely up to date with and have already seen that episode.  And, for the ones where I am not up to date, unless I can transfer the information, I am going to have to go through and manually delete the episodes I've already watched.  (and unfortunately it's not just a case of finding where I'm up to and deleting all previous episodes (some podcasts are out of order, some I want to relisten to) )
Is there any way of doing this?  Old machine has iTunes 8.2, new machine has iTunes 10.2

Thanks - I used the Layer > Duplicate command and it worked great!
P.S. How do you drag and drop a layer? I tried dragging a layer to the other open image, but nothing happened. Do you have to hold down a specific key for this (I'm using Windows)?

  • Podcast won't export from Garageband to iWeb

    Hi all
Help appreciated with this. I do a two hour music podcast (www.whatyouwantradio.com also available at http://soundcloud.com/whatyouwant-radio) which is created in Garageband and then exported to iWeb for uploading to my website. I've been running this, with few problems, since April 2009.
Recently the garageband podcast won't export to iWeb. It's random, and I seem to have been able to bypass it by changing the filename slightly, or adjusting the quality at which it is exported (I like to export at 320mps for best quality - big files but no complaints from the 100 or so listeners. Could be more - who knows as I can't get stats from iTunes. But I digress). However, the most recent podcast, which is already available on Soundcloud, just won't export. It goes through the motions (mixdown etc.) but nothing appears on iWeb on the other side. No error message, nothing. I know that memory has also been an issue in the past but right now there is plenty to spare (5.37GB at last glance).
I'd really be grateful for some help on this, I'm at a bit of a loss - no error message, no clue. As I say, this podcast has been going for nearly three years and it's only recently I've had this problem.
    Cheers,

Just a further note on this. I tried a couple more times yesterday to export the file. Starting out with over 5GB of memory, by the time I had tried twice this had gone down by a couple of GB. Still no export. This morning I noticed some new files in the trash that were from around the time of the failed exporting:
Note sure if you can see that, but I'm guessing the files are something to do with the failed export? Does anyone have any thoughts? Either way, this problem is still annoying the **** out of me...

  • Video Podcasts Won't Play under 7.3.2.6

Just installed new itunes and quick time and numerous previously downloaded and newly downloaded video podcasts won't play. You can see the opening frame on the small screen at bottom left if you click but when you try to play, the screen goes green, purple or other color and starts to vertically roll (like old tvs used to do) with foggy images. Strangely other video podcasts (old and new)do play. One example of podcast that does not play is Photoshop Killer Tips; one that does play is Adobe Photoshop Quick Tips.
Computer has plenty of space and has been cleaned of temporary files, defragged, etc.

And this is when going to videos-->video podcasts, right? Do they even show up there at all?
