POE intermittent on start up

SRW 224G4P. I know it has End of life, but customers will still use it for the next 1,2 years.
1. POE power in question now - Can config or solution be found for the following use?
2. Devices connected to first 12 ports of SRW 224G4P.
3. POE is enabled and turned on for these 12 ports.
4. When SRW 224G4P power is turn on at the start of day, power is sent out immediately from these 12 ports to the connected devices.
5.  POE power send out is good but, it sends power and then off. then 2 seconds later, power sends out again. then off.
6.  This power on off cycle goes on 4 times in total, lasting 1.5min - 2min time.
7.  AFter 2min, power stays stable all the way.
I worry this will spoil connected devices, due to power on n off 4 times a day, 7 days a week whole year round.
I worry that the new SFE 300 series switches will do the same. Customers will JUMP!!!!
Kindly advise if anyone knows a way round.
Regards
Adwin

Lim,
What are you powering up with the switch?
How long are the cables connecting the devices to the switch?
Have you set the poe settings to critical on the first 12 ports and tested to see if that assist the switch?
Are you running the latest version of firmware on the srw224g4p?

  • Time Machine fails intermittently to start backup

I am running MBPro Retina laptop with Mountain Lion 10.8.4, with all current updates (except for the new v. 6.3 for Airport Utility, which does not work right on my machine and many others). I am using a relatively new 2GB Time Capsule for backup via a wireless connection. The connection appears to be stable (as indicated by the console log) and I do not think that issue is relevant here. I backup has been working very well for many months but started to act up several weeks ago with a intermittent error (see below).
I get a successful backup about 1 out  3 times, so the situation is annoying  but not fully critical. I include below a listing from the console showing the relevant part of the log for a failed initation of the backup (personal information is redacted with XXXX). I have searched out error messges for the DiskMountedNotifier and have little to help isolate the problem.  Can someone help point me in the right direction??

I took correctve action from these useful sites and recoved the sparsebundle

But the message "sparse bundle could not be accessed (error -1)" just would not go away and

  • MacBook intermittent re-start when using Keynote

Hello. Not sure if this should be here or in software, but I am having a problem with my MacBook (core Duo) when I run Keynote 09.
Most of the time it's just fine, but twice now just as I have been starting running a presentation my MacBook has paused, screen goes black and then it re-starts. When it re-boots, the dock just shows the default icons and I have to go and add back all of my icons back into the dock again.
I am a little worried as I use my MacBook for presentations at work too so would hate it to happen there!
Anyone have any ideas on how to stop that happening? I am using iWork 09 with the latest version of Leopard.

Hi. I already have 10.5.6 via software update when it cam out. But I shall have a go downloading it separately and see if that helps. Ta.

  • Songs intermittently not starting at beginning on 10.1

After upgrading to 10.1, some songs randomly play at different points in the song when selected. I don't have "remember position" enabled for them. It is very frustrating and new behavior from previous verions of iTunes. Anybody else having this issue? I'm playing the mp3s back on an iPhone 4.

This is likely your iPhone skipping from the beginning of songs. I have the exact same thing on my new iPhone 4. I had a 3GS that was doing the exact same thing, and I upgraded to the iPhone 4 in hopes of having flawless playback. Wrong! Same exact problem. I also noticed it skipping when I was playing songs off of it through iTunes.
And the thing is, it's completely random. Sometimes the songs will play back perfectly, then other times they could start 1, 2, or 5 seconds in, or then maybe 2 minutes in. Or anywhere in between.
I bought my iPhone to have the capability of being able to 'do it all'... and that includes listening to music. Is it too much to expect perfect playback? Nope.
I hope there is s simple fix for this issue, but seeing as how this problem dates back over 12 months in my case, I'm not holding out any hope.
More to your point, I'm not certain if it's an iTunes problem, but seeing as how I had the same issues, I'd look into your iPhone. One test is of course to just play the songs with some headphones. Another is to FFWD from song to song and see how many times your songs DON'T start at 0:00.
    Good luck!

  • Intermittent slow start up

Does anyone know why once in a while - say once a week - the early 2008s (Xeon, 8-Core, 2.8 GHz) running 10.5.2 take a lot longer (almost 5 minutes) to boot than usual?
I'm ashamed to say that I interrupted and restarted the first couple of times (I've had mine for about a month) and long for a Disk Warrior with which to repair any potential damage that may have caused; though everything is otherwise functioning well.
No haxies or 3rd party 'fixes' etc. In fact a very clean macine (perms. repaired daily etc); lots of RAM (4 GB) and masses of HD space.
But every so often it is slow on the grey screen, seems to stop on the first blue and only after quite a while makes it through the brighter blue screen to the Finder.
Presumably it's carrying out checks and I should... just let it?
    TIA!

    Jason,
I'm sorry to read of the trouble(s) you're having: much worse than anything I'm experiencing
I have the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT; my hardware tests all OK. No other errors. Startup 19 times out of 20 very fast... < 10 secs from Power-on/Restart to DeskTop. Then once in a while 10 minutes. Yes I do have internal (Seagate, Maxtor, WD) drives. But they - like my LaCie d2 Quadra with Time Machine are the same for each boot. The console log for one slow start yesterday (so, 20 minutes) is:

  • Powering Windtunnel G4 - Intermittent Cold Start Issues

I have a DP 1.45 G4 that seems to have the power chord re-insterted into the AC port each time before booting.  The motherboard battery (1/2 AA) had needed replacement and had done so, but upon doing this the clock remains accurate but still having to unplug and re-instert the female end of the power chord.  Any suggestions or a possible remedy?  Or do I just live with it?

It is likely a PSU issue; it's sick and dying.
Next time it won't start, test the PSU with a volt meter (multimeter) as described in my following link:

It's not too uncommon, but it can be a fickle power button:

  • Intermittent delay start stop keystroke typing delay

    Hi
This is now a major problem but I am unsure if software or hardware issue.
I am typing normally and for what ever reason the typing stops - keyboard stops entering data.
I hit a key, no response, keep trying a single key and then it starts or keep typing and miss half the word typed.
I have had a recent MLB replaced and new battery from apple, now this problem has appeared.
Have reset pram, repaired permissions but the problem persists.
Any other suggestions on what to do, look for before losing the book for another week?
    Cheers

  • To prepare my iPad for repair (speaker works intermittently), I started the "Erase All Content and Settings" (as instructed) over 14 hours ago.  It's a 16GB iPad that was pretty full... how long should it take for the resetting to complete?

    ??

What happens is that the weaker the battery, the less time it takes it to charge (and run down) because it doesn't take long to reach its lowered maximum capacity.
Although I never worry about my battery and leave my portables plugged in most of the time, that isn't necessarily the best thing for the battery.

  • Ipad 3 freezes with IOS 7.0.4 intermittently -- this started with upgrade to IOS 7.0 and is getting worse I have 64 gb wifi

Ever since I upgraded to IOS 7 and with each update since currently at 7.0.4 my iPad freezes up and the home key will not work and the only way out is to do a hard reset (power + home key held for approx 20 sec) and then your get the apple logo and it then takes approx 1 min then your log screen come back.  It will work for sometime then it will lock up again.  Happens approx once a day.   I am also using a clam case with keyboard.  I had a zagg keyboard but it stopped working due to the bluetooth issue with IOS 7 and was not stable enough.  The Clam case so far had not had a problem ....yet.... but my problem still happens even if I have the keyboard turn off and just use the screen.  I have seen it freeze with browsers and other apps not just wallpaper changes like I have see on the web that others had.
I have tried everything, clearing our memory, only filling up 1/2 way with apps, keeping my apps up to date, not running to many apps at the same time...etc
Any one still having issues like mine?   Any word if Apple is coming out with a more stable IOS ?

Hey rmacbeth, I'm sorry to hear about your iPad troubles. It seems like with every major iOS release, these issues come up on older models (the iPad 3 is relatively new though...weird)
Anyways, it sounds like you've tried everything already and nothing seems to be working. If you're sure that it's a software issue with iOS and has nothing to do with your physical home button, I'd recommend restoring your iPad to factory settings by doing the following:
    1. Make a backup of your iPad (just connect it and select the backup option in iTunes)
    2. Next, select factory restore. It'll ask you to back up your iPad here if you haven't already.
    3. Try quickly setting it up as a new iPad.
    4. Try to duplicate the issue with the freezing, just use it for a day and see if it happens at all
    5. If everything seeems to be working, restore again except this time, do it from the backup you made earlier
    6. Try again to see if the issue comes up by using it normally in a day
    7. If it does happen again, take it in to the Apple store to get it looked at as there may be some underlying software issue that a factory restore can't resolve
Again, sorry about your iPad, I hope you can resolve your issues quickly!

  • Boot / application menu on start up (E420)

I keep getting the boot/application menu when I turn my laptop on. My computer is making a funny sound too.
Background: My computer froze for 2 minutes and I force shut it down. When I started it back up, I got the boot/application menu and the noise came back. I'm not a tech person and didn't know what to do. I force shut it down again, waited a minute and turned it back on, the noise came back, and I got the boot/application menu again. I force shut it down again, waited several minutes, and turned it back on, the noise came back, and got the boot/application menu again. One last time, I force shut it down and waited 10 minutes, but this time it went to the regular Windows menu and the noise stopped.
Please help. This happened once over the summer too.

    Ok, thanks.
The first thing I'd recommend you do is to backup your personal files (documents, pictures, etc) from your hard drive to other media (external USB drive, flash drive, network share) as soon as possible.
While it certainly may be something else, a clicking sound can be a sign of a failing hard drive. That would also mesh with you getting the boot menu intermittently upon starting the machine. That would typically happen when the BIOS can't find a bootable operating system, in this case, on the hard drive. When you do get booted successfully, are you seeing any error messages in Lenovo Solution Center (or elsewhere)?
If you're technically inclined, or if not, if you can enlist the help of someone who is, you could open the bottom access cover and try to reseat the hard drive, on the off chance that it isn't making a good connection for some reason. You can refer to your hardware manual (pages 60-61) for the steps: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e420_e425_hmm_en_0a60575_05.pdf

  • MDD G4 Dual 1.25GHz-2MB L3 - Intermittent No Response To Startup Button

Over the past week my MDD G4 has suddenly started having an intermittent problem starting up. Sometimes when I press the startup button, absolutely nothing happens. I've tried pressing it again and again with different levels of pressure and pressure at different points on the button, to no avail. On a hunch, I tried pulling the power plug, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging the power back in and hitting the start button again. That work-around has worked each time I've tried it, but obviously that's no way to run a Mac on a daily basis.
I've run Disk Utility, DiskWarrior, and TechTool Deluxe and found nothing wrong. Any ideas as to what has suddenly taken to plaguing my MDD G4? BTW, hardware hasn't been modified in over a year and the only new software are Apple's updates.

Hi, well.... this may sound nuts at first.. or perhaps then you are aware of it.. but this happened to me a long time ago, and I have not had the problem again.. sometimes pressing very hard on the middle of that dime sized button, over and over ... why....
Try this at a fresh startup..
Think of that little round button as the face of a clock or a "clock dial/face"... OK?
Now, where about 8 or 9 o'clock, at the very edge, there is a "hot-spot".
I'm not really sure what kind of crazy mechanism is in there, but it is some type of smart button, beyond the just "on or off" of it. All one needs, is pressing that ONE spot like a pencil point of pressure, right in the right spot and it will startup and work.. just try it.. it worked for me....
It's like the button face is a see-saw object <left-right> just lean on the Left side..
    Hopes this helps

  • Why Won't My I Mac G5 Start Up?

I'm having an intermittent problem starting my I Mac G5. I press the start up button and no go. I try and try, unplug the cable, purchased a new cable, done everything I can think of and nothing works. Then suddenly it will start. I thought it might be the cable because once when I jiggled it the computer started up. I decided that I'll take it to the shop when it won't start anymore at all because I fear that if I take it in when it's intermittent they might not find the problem.
Does anyone know what other reasons could cause this sort of start up issue?
The machine in question is several years old and it's a G5 I Mac, 1.6 GHz PowerPC G5, not the Model listed below which is a newer machine and thankfully starts up just fine.

For me, it turned out to be a bad power supply. $60+ plus $38 labor at the local Apple store. If it's the switch, good for you. My Mac was running forever. I shut it down and moved it to another room in the house. When I went to start it, it wouldn't respond to my button press. Took to to the Apple store and had a Genius look at it. He tried resetting something by holding down the power button for a long while. That didn't work. Ended up leaving it for a power supply replacement. I wasn't going to pay for more than that...

  • How do I reinstall my operating system and keep my data?

I recently installed a new time capsule and created a network.  I have a three year old iMac (early 2009) on this network and a Mac Book Pro (late 2011). In addition, I backed up iTunes and iPhoto libraries to an external drive, with the intention of erasing them from my internal HD, just before installing the time capsule.
Since making this change there have been a number of problems with the iMac.  It freezes up frequently, and also opens and closes programs at will.  For example, it reopens already closed windows on its own.  Speakers shut themselves on and off.  The mouse disappears. Going full screen with a movie enlarges the screen, but the moviie appears the same size in one corner.  There are "flashes" of windows which open and close at lightening speed. All these problems are intermittent, but started within the past two weeks, after intalling time capsule. Most recently, I received an error message where a grey screen came over my open window and told me I had to restart my computer immediately.
iTunes also had a problem with launching itself over and over.  I did a bit of searching the web and resolved it the following manner.  It seems to have worked.
While ITunes was open I opened Terminal and typed: killall iTunes
This seems to have worked, but I include the information here to expound on the problems I've been having.
I have my system backed up to the time capsule, using time machine, and the above mentioned libraries are on a seperate hard drive.  But is it possible to reinstall the operating system without losing documents and other personal stuff on my iMac?  Is reinstalling the recommended fix for all this instability?
In addition to the above, my Mac Book Pro has also been running slower, with lots of pinwheels, since the network setup.
Thanks in advance for your help with this problem.

  • IMac - internet doesn't work

I took delivery of a brand new 21.5" iMac a week ago. When it first arrived the internet was fine - then intermittently it started to go slow or just fail to load pages even though I could see it was connected to the router and had full signal strength. The problems gradually got worse and I'm now at the point where I have to turn the Wi-Fi on the mac off, then on again for each page I try to load. I know this is an issue with the mac because all other devices in my house that rely on the Wi-Fi are working fine. I've browsed a few message boards and can see that this seems to be a common issue but no one has a solution to it. Is this something I can fix myself or is it a hardware problem?

Hi, I didn't get it sorted exactly. I seem to have stumbled on a fix and I think the issue might be to do with the compatibility between my old router and new mac. If I were to make an educated guess based on the problems I've had and what others have described I'd say this is a software problem with the new OS - maybe it's just a little bit incompatible with certain routers?
I've been in contact with apple support a lot over the last 10 days and I'd just like to ay that despite not finding a fix they have been really helpful. One of the senior guys let me know that because I'd reported the issue that he would let the after sales team know if I wanted to swap the Mac, even though I'd gone over the 14 days (I'd probably be pushing my luck if I asked them to honour that now though).
    So, what we tried was;
Solution 1: rename the config file, reboot the system so the config settings are reset. This worked for a few hours until the problem resurfaced then gradually got worse.
Solution 2: reinstall the OS - again this worked for a while, before gradually getting worse again.
Solution 3: Open Network Preferences, use the minus key to delete all internet connections then set up the Wi-Fi again - didn't help.
Solution 4: set up a new admin user, sign in there and see if the problem occurs. Again same thing, this worked for a number of hours before the problem crept back. I do find it a bit weird how the fixes seem ok for a while then it just gradually dies.
Trying the troubleshooting basically narrowed it down to a problem with the router or the Mac. So I took the Mac to my Dad's flat where he has BT Infinity with a fairly new modem and router. The internet seemed fine there - it was faster (as expected) and didn't drop out at all. My only worry is that I only had one night to test it there, so I can't guarantee after a weeks usage the same thing might not happen there also.
Not wanting to have to buy a new router I did try something which for now seems to have worked quite well and now I get internet connectivity for a good day or two, before there's a bit of a wobble but I repeat the same troubleshooting process and it works fine again. This is what I did:
Alt click on the Wi-Fi icon on the menu bar.
    Select 'Open Wireless Diagnostics...'
Don't press continue in the box that opens, but instead select 'Window' from the menu bar, then 'Scan'.
In the box that opens up hit 'Scan Now' and check the numbers next to Best 2.4GHz.
Next - type in your routers IP address in Safari to access it's settings. I found the IP for mine by google searching the router on my iPhone and downloading the instructions.
    Access the wireless settings.
Configure the channel that the router is using so it matches one of the numbers that was shown next to Best 2.4GHz.
I also changed the interface type to 802.11g (seemed to be the best my router had) and the WPA-PSK to WPA2. Also check that the router firmware is up to date.
Finally open up Spotify and play victory tune of your choice.
Whenever the Wi-Fi has a bit of a wobble I just switch the channels once or twice and it seems to come back to life.
The router I'm using is a really old Speedtouch 585 all in one. It's been reliable though and I've never had problem like this with any other devices. I'd be interested to know what other people are using. I should also point out that I'm not actually all that techy - I've just sort of fixed this through belligerent trail and error. I'd like to know if this helps anyone else.
