Poi / hdf / word / rtf

hi
i was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the hdf word convertor working. i'm really stumped, the classes seem to have the potential to do exactly what i need to do (convert text based word files to xml/xhtml/html) but i've been unable to find any examples of this working anywhere and the documentation is v.limited.
anyone got any ideas/links that would be useful? i've already been through all the readmes etc and the jakarta site.
cheers,
ben

  • Reseting page number in Word RTF template for BI Publisher PDF generation

    Hi!
    Apex 4.0.2, Oracle 10.2.0.4, BIP 10.2
    Bills are created based on Word RTF file with BI Publisher. Reszulting file is one big PDF file, which has many pages.
    Word RTF template is grouped on BILLS.ID field with page break option. So one BILLS.ID may have one or many pages (according data).
    How to create RTF template (for PDF BI Publisher generation) with reseting page numbers when grouping value change.
    Page numbers are in footer in format
    curr_group_page/total_group_pages
    where:
    curr_group_page is current page number in group (defined with BILLS.ID field),
    total_group_pages is total page number of pages in group (defined with BILLS.ID field).
    I need to reset numbering whenever BILLS.ID (group) change.
    Example:
    ID=1 (4 pages)
    1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4
    ID=2 (1 pages)
    1/1
    ID=3 (2 pages)
    1/2, 2/2
    ID=4 (3 pages)
    1/3, 2/3, 3/3
    etc.
    How to achieve that kind of numbering?
    Any help appreciated.

    Simple question.. Does your posting deal with an APEX issue or a BI Publisher issue? The posting you have deals with the RTF add-on for Word that builds report layouts for BI Publisher. I suggested in my response that you move it to a more relevant forum..
    If you feel that me alerting you to the fact your are VIOLATING forum policy is an issue, please feel free to ask others their view.. (posting to a 3 year old closed thread, creating MULTIPLE threads for a single issue..) You do NOT seem to get the idea that posting this in the Bi Publisher support forum would probably get you a BETTER response than here.. Asking pl/sql questions here will also get people to refer your questions to the PL/Sql Support forum..
    Also, here is a POSSIBLE answer from the BI Publisher Forum: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=594805
    This Is The APEX SUPPORT forum, we deal with SUPPORT questions on APEX (Application Express)..

    You know, I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

  • Export to Word RTF - Page Server error when over 160 pages exported

    We have XIR2 SP2
    We have a Crystal report published into this Enterprise which, when all parameters are widened, runs to 190 pages.
    The resultant report includes tables
    We can export to PDF but the client requires it in Word RTF
    We can export to Word RTF Editable - and all 190 pages are produced in the resulting file, but of course the tables are omitted and the result is messy.
    So, we need to export to Word RTF where the format is neat and includes the tables.
    However, when we try and export more than 160 pages to Word RTF, we receive the following error.
    CrystalReportViewer
    handleCrystalEvent failed
    Unable to retrieve Object.
    The Page Server you are trying to connect to is not accessible. Please contact your system administrator.
    We have a duplicate environment with an identical configuration, standing by as a failover environment and which points to the same data.This produces the same error, so we don't think it's an installation corruption or failure.
    The page server is set to a maximum of 2,000,000 rows, the cache server at 256000 maximum.

    Hi Tony F,
    Many thanks for coming back on this one. Both Enterprise servers are identical in BO config, Windows 2003 server, but different in hardware.
    One has 4 proc and one has 2, one has twice the memory of the other, yet both fail at over 161 pages. Both have their boCMS db's on different servers, both derive the data from different servers.
    IIS is the web server. The only common denominator is the actual installation software itself and the person who installed it (me).
    On Friday, instead of running the reports in Enterprise/Preview or Infoview (both exhibit the problem) I switched from our default activeX to DHTML, and advanced DHTML. No improvement (Our report wouldn't work with Java, which we never use)
    On the suggestion of the SAP/BO support girl, I then SCHEDULED the report for immediate running and chose WordRTF as the format. This works fine.
    So on that evidence I suspect a software glitch that is specific to using Infoview to open the report rather than schedule it - the two processes must access the WordRTF translator in different ways.
    I'm hoping there is a patch or hotfix that can solve it. Sadly, our users don't have the appetite for the few extra clicks to use the workaround so we're going to have to pursue it with BO unless the forum comes up with an answer - perhaps its something I didn't do properly on installation, or a CMC/CMS setting. We've got 2m row limit on the page server but the report's row count is nothing like that and, anyway, it works if scheduled.
    I'm really grateful to you for taking the time to reply, I hope the above answers your question - if I had hair to pull out, I'd be doing just that!
    Kind regards

  • Converted a pdf to Word.rtf.

    First time user:  I just converted a pdf to Word.rtf.  The lines are all off.  e.g. If it says Address: ________________, then the lines are appearing in the middle or above the word and it throws everything off.  Can this be fixed??  Help please

    Hi Jim,
    I just responded directly. Unfortunately the original PDF is from an old fax or scan. The random ink marks and blotches along with the runny font won't transfer the proper information from PDF to Word. The only thing I can recommend is to re-create the doc so you have a clean copy. As I offered - if you need a PDF of it after you have completed - I'd be happy to do that for you.

  • JS CS5 Word RTF mapping styles

    Hi,
    From older postings I've learned there was no way to automatically (by script) map Word RTF styles to InDesign styles om import. Has this situation changed with CS5? I did find WordRTFImportPreference, but that only has an option to deal with clashing styles. I can't find a way to map the styles. Am I overlooking an option or is it still not possible?
    And if not, is it possible to read the XML information from the preset file by script and use those mapping on an Word RTF file? I've read something like that in this posting http://forums.adobe.com/message/2354990#2354990, but I don't understand how styles from XML can be applied to imported Word RTF. Those are two different things, aren't they?
    Thanks,
    Dool

    For javascript, it's called "WordRTFImportPreference" (and its helpful Help string tells me this is "Word RTF import preferences." ...).
    It's a property of the application: Application.wordRTFImportPreferences.
    It should have been in there somewhere, but I can't find any reference to style mapping or presets -- so apparently, these cannot be scripted.

  • Merging Word (RTF) files in java

    Hey,
    I have a requirement to merge several word (or rft) files in java. The files are stored as blobs on the database. I had a look at http://poi.apache.org/hwpf/docoverview.html but that project seems to be parked at the moment. Has anybody any ideas?
    Thanks

    I agree its a bad idea but i was asked to look into
    its possibility.
    Previously it wasn't a problem as it was always one
    word file that was required
    for editing through the browser by the user but now
    they want to basically build a 'master doc' based on
    a bunch of business rules i.e. chose a subset of all
    their templates based on business rules at runtime.
    I pitched the idea of generating XSL:FO and adding
    conditionals around the various templates and then
    generating RTF from this. Storing the XSL:FO on the
    db but they didn't like that as they want to be able
    to add and modify new templates and then store these
    directly on the DB?!?!?!The way to address this is to find out what the real concerns are. Almost all stupid requirements are based upon some concern that is the result of a combination of fear and ignorance.
    So I would suggest you find out what the real concern is and address that specifically in your better design.
    Because the reality is that your solution is actually workable. Whereas the one you are being pushed towards will be very difficult and I fear result in an unmaintable mess.

  • Blank/Generic Icons for Word & RTF files - a rant

    I can't understand why such a simple thing can be made so difficult. If you have .RTF and .DOC files all set to open with Pages, then they have the blank/generic icon. Ofcourse you can change the icon manually but this isn't exactly a solution as you would need to do it everytime you create a new file.
    What also gets me is that if you did happen to have WORD on your machine, and you still wanted .doc files to open with pages, the icon for those files would still be blank even though there's an icon right there on your machine especially for those types of files. The only way to get a word icon for word files is to have them opening all the time with Word.
    This is the same with RTF files, textedit has an icon for RTF files, but because you want to edit them in Pages you have to put up with a blank icon because there isn't an icon for RTF files inside the Pages package.
    I know Mac users tend to scoff at Windows users and vica versa. But, in this instance it's laughable that such a simple thing is made almost impossible to the average user.
    It's not much to ask, the ability to specify that all .doc and .rtf files have X icon.

    I think the logic is that Pages doesn't ever "save" .doc or .rtf. Pages can "export to", but that's not good enough for some reason.
    You cannot say: "This .rtf is a Pages rtf-file. I use Pages do open it and Pages to save it." The only thing you can say is "This .rtf will open with Pages, and then I will have to choose myself which format to save or export to."
    One doesn't have to agree with that logic of course.

  • MS Word rtf template - question on formatting of numbers

    Hello,
    First let me start by saything that this is the first time I've developed using this tool (previously used Report Builder 6i), and I have never used xml or xsl. If I've left out any information, please let me know what else you need. If you could be as specific as possible in your suggestions with syntax, etc. I would really appreciate it.
    I have a requirement to format a number as follows:
    if negative number display in brackets with comma separators
    if zero display as '-'
    if positive number display as is with comma separators
    sample data would be:
    (300)
    1,300
    I've used the 'Text Form Field Options' Dialogue box to enter the following format: #,##0;(#,##0) and this has given me the first and 3rd requirements. I've used <?xdofx:if SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT = 0 then '- ' else SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT end if?>to meet the 2nd requirement. However, now I have an alignment issue. When I preview in pdf from Word, the data displays as follows:
    (300)
    1,300
    The positive number needs to shift one space to the left. I tried adding the following condition: else if SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT > 0 then SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT||' '
    but it doesn't let me concatenate a string (I'm guessing because the field is formatted as a number?).
    I was going to try leaving the field formatted as regular text, and doing something like this right in the code:
    <?xdofx:if SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT = 0 then '- 'else if SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT >0 then
    format-number:SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT;'9g999'||' ' else SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT end if?>
    This doesn't work the way I have it (syntax is wrong), but will it work with the proper syntax or do I have to try another approach?
    Any help would really be appreciated
    Thank you!

    Thanks fo responding.
    The spacing in my sample data looks incorrect..sorry about that....what I'm trying to do is align the numbers on the right side, so I would only ever need to add one space to the right side of a positive number. I thought of using rpad to add a single space and using length of the field and a formula in order to generate the padded length, but it doesn't seem to work. The syntax I used was:
    <?xdofx:if SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT = 0 then '-' else rpad(SUB_PROG_ENC_YEAR_AMOUNT,15,' ') end if?> which just returned the value of sub_prog_enc_year_amount.
    For curiosities sake I tried using '*' and '0' as the padded_string. The '0' worked but not the asterisk or the space. It doesn't like string value in the padded_string, I'm guessing because the field is formatted as a number.
    That's why I tried using the format number function right in the code (see my original post), but the syntax isn't correct. Would you be able to suggest the proper syntax or point me to to some sample code?
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Exception with Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime SP2 and Export to Word/RTF

    When I export a report (DataSource ADO.NET DataSet) with many records (in my case about 17000 but the records are stretched from about 370 pages to about 800 pages ), I get an exception:
    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Ungültiger Zeiger (German, English: Invalid pointer?)
    When I dont't stretch the records (that means record by record without pagebreak) it works fine.
    Any ideas?
    I think the problem is the expected file size. When I export from the development enviroment the doc-file is 566 MB. Open this wiht MS-Word I get the Message: Word cannot open files > 512 MB.
    Somehow the problem seams to depend on this fact.
    Anyway, MS-Word cannot work with files > 512 MB. So I don't need to think about the problem further.
    Edited by: Sven G. on Mar 24, 2010 11:14 AM

    That is an interesting finding.
    One thing you may want to try is FP 2.5. Perhaps the exported file will be smaller and thus let you export more pages(?). Other than that, keeping the file size down via selection formulas or smaller datasets will be the way to go.
    FP2.5 is here:

  • Word RTF Delay

    Has anyone experienced this? While working in MS Word and logged into BI Publisher, when I move between documents or applications, there is a long lag time when I return to a Word document that has a BI Publisher report open. The mouse cursor sits with an hour glass. Is this delay between BI Publisher server and local machine?

    Hi,
    Try this :
    Set a variable for number of table rows
    <?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX,'cnt',round(count(//G_LABEL_HEADER) div 2))?>
    Draw a table with 1 row
    First column:
    <?for-each:xdoxslt:foreach_number($_XDOCTX,1,xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, ’cnt’),1)?><?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX, ’counter’, (position()*2) - 1)?><?//G_LABEL_HEADER[xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, ’counter’)]/NUMBER?>
    Second column:
    <?//G_LABEL_HEADER[xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, ’counter’)+1]/NUMBER?><?end for-each?>
