Point crazy on SDN

Having used this forums for a while, I have to say it can have some supply some very valuable information.
What I also notice is that some people are just crazy for earning points.
Here's a situation: Someone asks a question. One person answers with a great solution. An hour later, someone else gives the exact same answer and signs off with: Don't forget to give points! How silly is that? And for most: WHY? Why would you repeat an answer? For points?
I thought this forum was for people to help eachother, but it seems that for some people it's just a was to elbow yourself into the picture. Sad...

    Rich, Thomas and myself as well as many others DID NOT get our jobs at SAP because of points. SDN was a place where we could however show our knowledge and abilities.
    Remember the points are secondary through great contribution comes great points but the contribution is what really matters.

  • SDN Forum points vs Sun Forum Duke Dollars

    I believe that a points system is a great way to encourage participation by the community in problem solving.
    With the points system in SDN, however, there is room for abuse, for example, by having people you know award points to you on threads.
    I personally like the points reward system (Duke Dollars) on Sun's Developer Forums. In this scheme, you work with credits. Every user is given a certain amount of points (Duke Dollars) when they join. When you post a question, you can assign a number of Duke Dollars up front from your available credit as a reward to entice responses. You can also accumulate more Dollars by answering threads which have Dollars assigned.
    Every month, Sun gives a gift to the user who has accumulated the most points.
    I'm not sure that this solves the problem of users not assigning points for valid help, but, because users are working with limited credit, it does force them to be careful when assigning points, and prevents abuse as that mentioned above.
    I would like to hear what other people think about this scheme. Perhaps there are aspects I have not considered.

    Would a moderator make it more positive? 
    Actually Craig went into each of the forums and published a "rules of engagement".  Maybe that kind of a "sticky note" post would be the place to remind people about the inappropriateness of redundant questions (across various forums) and the confusion and poor sporting behavior associated with "copied" answers.  I can ping Craig with that suggestion to add text if you think it makes sense to "remind" people in each of the respective forums.
    Or..to be a little more provocative, we could suggest that community members who have a good track record of participation, collaboration, and exemplary attitude be given the moderator rights in forums where the activity volume might be too overwhelming for an SAP moderator alone to manage and given the rights to move content to a more appropriate thread.
    This is what I meant about "self-policing".  Also, perhaps the moderators (internal as well as SAP) could identify themselves in a sticky post and invite participants in those designated threads to track "abuses" or issues, thus identifying them and hopefully resolving them publically.
    Strange, it reminds me that in old, Puritanical, America, of the 17th century community culprits were subjected to a public dunking or stocks when they broke the law.  The purpose being that public condemnation sent a clear message to other "would be" misbehavers.... and thus deterred further bad conduct.
    While a rather radical and unpleasant method it was an open way of dealing with abuses to the system.
    Perhaps others can offer less extreme and more effective suggestions here

    its all about contribution and sharing.
    did you try that code on a production or a Quality server. If you did you wont say that coz the results i have shown in that blog is what i my self tested on a Quality system of our client.
    and for your information i did my internship at a SAP AFS consultancy firm and i created the account at that time. I have joined that company and now working as a developer over there.
    if you have worked on a client system development on SD and MM you will know that most of the time
    we use header and item tables like
    likp,lips
    vbak,vbap
    vbrk,vbrp
    most of the time we come across nested loops with smiler kind of condition.
    in this Q he has MATNR as reference.
    if you see it properly you can see both tables are sorted.
    and the select statement is for all entries.
    for your information there can be a delivery document item with out a header if you are aware of DB concepts in that case there will be a foreign key error.
    ok lets think about a situation like that even in that case if there ant any header data then simply the client wont request for that record.( you would know if you have worked with clients )
    last but not least i dont care about my points rate at SDN i just wanted to share what i know coz anyway i have a very good job here. dont try to put down ppl just because they are new.
    Thomas Zloch  : i never told its my code i saw it some where then i checked and i bogged it so that i can get it when i want and i saw it in se30 ( its not se38 ) but i know most of ABAP developers dont check it much so i just wanted to help.
    Rui Pedro Dantas   : ya your correct we dont need to use it most of the time since sorted table is easy but there are programs which works with bulky data load we can use it in places like that. Thanks for talking the truth

  • Contribution points display and search not working in Safari 5?

    Are the contribution points display and SDN search not working for everyone else in Safari 5 or is it just me?
    Chrome 5 and Firefox 3.6 (all on Mac OS X 10.6) seem to be working fine.

    A simple thread with a little bit of everything in it and a windiff against the before & after would detect these things?

  • Community day - 250 points?

    Hi ,
           I would like to know about the points milestones in SDN. I read in SDN that on crossing the 250 points milestone, one would be invited to Community day .Is this still valid ? If so, I would like to know whether it is on crossing of 250 total annual points, or 250 Forum points . Also, is there any period validity for the same, like , one should complete 250 points before April or any such conditions. Any other clauses?
    I know I am long way to go for this, but I would want to know this so that I would atleast aim for it.

    There is nothign as community day.
    And yes, you are right, the mark is 250 points as mentioned by SDN.
    Also, the calculation of 250 points annually is required for you to be an Active Contributor on SDN. (Calendar Year)

  • How to give out reward points?

    Excuse my ignorance but how do I ensure reward points are distributed?  Is this done automatically by SDN? Thanks.

    mark your thread as question while creating it. In the anwers you get, you can assign the points by clicking on the stars.
    You have to assign the points, not the SDN.

    Adding point system to this forum will encourage and
    recognize people who is doing good work in this forum.
    Add positive and negative point system.
    SDN SAP forum is using point system effectively.
    It shows who got maximum point this week, who got maximum
    point this month, till today who got maximum points.
    Points are give by people who ask questions based on correct
    answer. If answer is correct, 1 point is awarded.
    wrong answer and arrogant answer -1 point.
    We need to recognize people who help others. This will be a
    good start to make this forum interesting and user friendly.

    The user asks me they need a page break on the report after each customer data. I am wondering is it possible to have a page break in html report? If yes, how it is possible?

  • Infoobject in queries

    Hi,
    I amgetting an invalid char error while loading transcational data for in foobject 0incoterms2. To resolve it  I am planning to remove the mapping from transformation. But i have to make sure that 0intcoterms is not used in any of the queries.Can some one tell me how to do this(sme meta table etc). From where used list of infoobject queries are not displayed.

  • Navigation problem in RRI

    IN Query analyser where will be the GOTO option in  BI7. I am unable to connect from BI to RRI .

    Hi........
    You need to have sender/receiver assignment for the system to be able to offer jump targets........
    In order to start a jump highlight a characteristic value and then use the context menu to launch the GOTO option.........The menu will open up to show the assigned jump targets........With a single click you can go to the desired jump target............The selections made in the query definition are tansferred into the jumped target....this means you can continue your navigation where you left off..........

  • The technical name of object QVIW zabcd is not valid

    I am facing a weird problem.
    I run a query it works fine but when I try to save the view by right click -- save view it ask me for the Description and Technical name after putting this information I press save. Istead of saving it it gives me error "The technical name of object QVIW zabcd is not valid"
    Please help me asap

    I have a standalone custom web dynpro application which needs to be linked to standard team viewer application.
    What I want is I should be able to select the employee from the Team Viewer iView and supply the information to the Custom Application so that it gives me output based on that.
    Right now am following the below link But in that no where they were talking about the webdynpro eventing.
    then how come two views will get linked fucntionally so that team viewer will pass the information to my custom WD application??????????????????? Please help
