Point light render problem (CS6)

I'm having an odd problem when following along with this tutorial.  I'm putting in a point light, and while it looks great in openGL, when I render it the light totally disappears.  I've reset the location and am positive it's in the right place spatially.  Like I said - it looks good pre-render.  I tried a spot light and that one works fine.  Just not the point light.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the quick reply Mylenium.  I'm using a Windows 7 Core i5 system with an AMD 6800 series card.  You put me on the right track.  The light was under the postcard surface and was shining through under openGL but not when raytraced.  Now it doesn't really look all that great before I render, but looks fine afterwards.

    As I understand it (and I could well be wrong), if I render a PPro project that has AE projects dynamically linked in (anything from simple lower thirds to color grading), during rendering the AE bits run as a service, which limits the AE bits to a single CPU and effectively stops simultaneous rendering of multiple frames. This is why I can get very high render times (essentially no parallel processing), and why messing with the number of CPUs allowed for simultaneous frame rendering, or the amount of RAM said CPUs can access, has little to no effect on total render time.
    Supposedly as some point AE was going to be changed such that it used Media Encoder to do it's rendering (same as PPro does), thus speeding up rendering for any PPro project that has AE parts dynamically linked in.
    Has this been done in CS6? If not, any idea when that's scheduled to happen?

    The distinction is not so distinct, and this is an industry issue, not really Adobe. After Effects has a render queue, which is used for exporting, but you can also export.     Back to the OP - After Effects can be used with Adobe Media Encoder, it's just not the default. You can import any composition into AME from AE and render your encoded export.
    As for background rendering....I remember when Pinnacle Liquid was the first to the table with that feature back in 2004 or 2005. It seemed awesome, except that you needed a ton of spare hard drive space and lots of processing to keep the background rendering going...effecitvely your processor was in use 100% of the time. When you weren't scrubbing or playing back, Liquid was rendering previews. Of course, you could use those previews during export but you rarely would have wanted to do so, since it was better quality to reference the original data when compositing the layers and effects to output to a web file, for instance. Then  you had to keep cleaning up the preview cache.
    I rarely render previews at all, and when I do it's just a small segment at a time, just to get a full look at the final composite. Mercury Playback is usually more than capable of playing back most of my edits the rest of the time.

  • Point Light and Glow not working

    I have ran into a strange issue recently. For some reason, certain built in features aren't working for my CS6 AE. When I try and use a point light or the glow effect nothing happens. No matter how much I tweak the settings it nothing happens. Has anyone else heard of a problem like this before? I recently upgrade to a new graphics card (K5000, all drivers up to date), is there a setting that maybe changed that causes these effects to no longer work? Any help is appreciated.
    *Slight update... It only seems to happen when I have a comp with 3D layers or a comp with 2D layers and only text on them.

    Ray Tracing will not see effects applied to 3D layers. There's a warning, which may be disabled, that tells you the limitations. Make sure none of these conditions exist. Check the fast previews option in the Comp pannel and make sure that's set properly. Make sure you don't have draft 3D turned on.

  • Why do I get a lined pattern when casting shadows with a Point light?

    Hello,
    For some reason I am getting a weird lined pattern on my composition. It only happens when using a Point light with Cast Shadows on (see image below.) It's almost a wood effect and not one I particularly want. I have found that altering the shadow map resolution only seems to change the pattern of the lines, but apart from that I have no idea how to get rid of it!

    Hi Coconutzor1,
    It only has a Position and Orientation effect on it, with material options (cast shadows: on, light transmition: 50%, accepts shadows: on, accept lights: off). It is also a 3d layer, if that matters. It sits in a Composition that has collapse transformation on, with a camera, a null object to control the camera and a point light with cast shadows on... I only ever see the weird lines when the cast shadows on... so I guess it must be something to do with that?

  • Render problems

    Hi,
    I have serious render problems with Premiere CC. I't wont render at all. Crashes down every time with a window saying occurred serious problem...
    The file that i've been working on is heavy with AE direct links and above adjustment track.
    Im working station is Mac Pro Mac OSX 9.2.
    So I assume having this machine Premiere will run smooth.
    But on contrary I cant touch my files because it will crash down.
    Can anybody have any suggestions that are not exporting all my AE files as movie clips and reedit the whole video again.

    There are always issues with the screen on devices. In the case of slight bleeding, one QC engineer might pass the product while another might not, due to color and lighting perception differences between engineers.
    Different service centre will have different service levels due to the fact that this IS Singapore...
    I suggest going down to QCD.

  • Do white new iPad's have more light bleed problems?

    I have exchanged 3 white 64GB wifi only new iPad's and will be exchanging for my 4th one today. are there more light bleed problems with white iPad's? I don't know how many times i will have to exchange until I get a good one. can someone show me of a white ipad that has no defects what so ever.

    I just want to mention that if the DSL light isn't on, it is definitely the phone line, however it is not always the provider's fault. Remember they are responsible for the line from the pole to the house, but not the inside wiring. If your phone line is unplugged from the jack, the DSL light will not be on. To be sure that it is SBC's fault, go and test the connection at the d-marc box outside the house.
    Take your laptop, your modem and a phone line and plug it in out there. If you don't get the DSL light, it is definitely their problem. If you do outside, but not in the house, and you call them out, you will get charged for the service call.
    Also the built in ethernet cards, more commonly referred to as airport cards, are not really delicate per se, but the wire for the antennae connection is most definitely. Only if you removed yours which you would have to if you wanted to add RAM, would you have any reason to be concerned about possibly damaging it. SBC telephone tech support is always showing off their lack of knowledge.

    I went to the genius bar for a light leak problem, which was confirmed by a genius. Unfortunately it seems there never is any iPad 2 in stock. Do you think I'll be able to return my iPad 2 more than 14 days after I bought it

    Oh you may still get some light leakage.  I suspect almost all iPad2 suffer to some extent.  I didn't even realize I had any until the other night, when I was shutting my iPad down and it was dark in the room.  The light leak I saw as at the bottom right hand corner.  In normal viewing, it's simply not an issue and not one I feel is worthy of asking for a replacement.  What I have seen here on the forum is that Apple will replace your iPad once for this issue, but not a second time.

  • After Effects CS6 render problem with exactly one frame or exactly at one point in the timeline.

    I've recently tried to render a project in After Effects CS6 but everytime I render the render fails at exaclty one frame or a time in the timeline, in this frame or point in timeline I have a composition with the following effects: Twixtor Pro and inside that composition I have the video with the following effects: Motion Tiles and Wave Warp. I rendered the project in H.264 format with a 8 bitrate. I tried to fix this even by trying to render the project as a TIFF Sequenece but the render keeps failing and the final output is only the part of the video until that exact frame. I have caps lock on to try to speed up my render. Any help would be appreaciated and let me know if you need more information and i'll try to give you more.

    Set your work area to about 5 frames before the fail and 5 frames after and see if you get a fail.
    If you get a fail then start turning off a layer at a time until you find the culprit. Let us know what's going on there.
    A screenshot of the timeline with all properties revealed may also give us some ideas.

    That is  very old for drivers and new driver for the chipset will not be coming I do not see it as supported either Photoshop CC and CC 2014 GPU FAQ

  • CS6 Render problem

    Hey there
    I have been using Photoshop CS6 for awhile now and for some reason this evening as I tried to render just a regular 800*800 pixel image or anything else for that matter, it does nothing, I click on the render button and everything is normal except there is no render in any of the folders saved! Please help!

    Render should open the video encoder dialog.   If is does not do that I would not expect a video to be rendered any where.

  • 3D render problem

    I have a strange problem going on for CS6... Where when I created a design, grouped all of them so that they had the same center.. then did a force perspective... Some of the letters didn't render while a wire frame does exist for them.
    One friend suggested to make sure all of the points are joined, however when I Ctrl+J them, I get an error that says invalid object... which is most likely because they are joined... any ideas on this?

    Not exactly sure wy you even go through the trouble of using bevel&extrude... A simple radial scale/ warp on a duplicate of the shapes could create the illusion... Anyway, if you get the invalid object warning it usually means that the path type is not right. Either it's grouped in odd ways, assigned as a compound path or a clipping mask. Also due to the shape of the type in the crevices I have the ugly suspicion that the font face simply has self-intersecting loops there which prevent correct calculation of the blends. Adjust the Bezier handles to avoid that or convert the points to linear right away...

  • Exporting to mpeg2 using Quicktime compression - render problems

    Using FCP Studio 5.1 to export to DVD, FCP keeps asking for file to be rendered even after we have rendered complete movie. There are no green or red bars, so why does FCP not accept this as a full render?
    We are exporting using mpeg2 Quicktime compression, not Compressor 2.
    Is there a work-round?

    Hi when I try to load browse in bridge from photoshop CS6 64 bit it says it cant find the javascript plugin, also 2 of my extentions wont load .Namely Kuboto dashboard pro 4 and OnOne perfect suite9. Yet the 32bit version works fine Tried uninstalling and re-installing, updating all to no avail starting to pull my hair out now please help I don't want to be bald !!!.

    Look at your Photoshop system information you should see listed in the requires plug-in section a plugin name "ScriptingSupport" listed.  I have see users the find this plug-in does not load in the 64bit version and does loade in the 32bit photoshop program.  The proble seems to be related with third party Pligins like NIK plug-in  when removed from  64Bit Photoshop the ScriptingSupport plug-in loads like it should.

  • Problem CS6 unable to use CS5 as default program now

    Windows 7-64 home
    I installed the CS6 beta
    I can not use CS6 to open files for 5diii ( I know this allready )
    So i try to go back to CS5 to open th cr2 file, this is not as easy as it sounds,
    1  go to Brige 5 open cr2 file goes to CS6 so it can not open
    2  right click use open with, cant use there is no choice to open with CS5
    3  go to file in windows explorer right click/open with/ browse/ choose CS5 and it still tries to open in CS6 ( which it wont as its a 5diii file )
    4 Only way it will work is to  open CS5 fist then use  file/menu/open  pick the file you want to open and it will open that way in CS5.
    5  I Uninstalled CS6 beta for now untill there is support for 5diii.

    I have similar (but not identical) problem with Mac version.
    I have installed the CS6 Beta as a separate installation (I hoped).
    Now when I start Bridge CS5 I can use the features of that version of Bridge until I attempt to open images to touchup in Camera Raw.  When I double click an image it opens in Camera Raw 7, and any further editing seems to being done by PS 6.  I have issues with Camera Raw 7 but I'll discuss those elsewhere.
    To force Bridge CS5 to use Camera Raw 6 (the interface of which I prefer at this point), right click the image and choose "Open With..." choose Photoshop CS5 from the choices that pop up and the image will open in the earlier version of Camera Raw.  Don't choose the right click option of "Open in Camera Raw..."  That will open the image for editing in Camera Raw 7.
    Perhaps all this works the same in Windows?
