Pointer is moving alone horizontally

Since the last Lion update the pointer is moving alone from time to time. Mountain Lion installing didn't change anything.
I am sure something wrong in librairy because the disturbance disapear when I restart without extension.
Does someone have an idea to solve the problem because it's not easy to use my laptop without extension.
Regards.
My laptop : MBP 13" 2,4 Ghz late 2010

There are several possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps until it's resolved.
1. Follow the instructions in this support article.
2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check for unknown or forgotten input devices. Disconnect any USB input devices that you aren't using.
3. Boot in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you reboot as usual, stop here and post your results. If you can't boot in safe mode, do the same. If you booted in safe mode and there was no change, go on to the next step.
4. Reset the System Management Controller.
5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
6. A swollen battery in a MacBook Pro or Air can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
7. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
8. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
9. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
10. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

hi i;m using macbook pro . magic mouse pointer not moving, but do all the rest of things

thank you, i have tried you suggestion but it is still just prompting me to restart rather than allowing me to install the os from the os boot disk. the problem began when the macbook was just showing me a folder icon with a question mark on it rather than starting normally. reading through forums lead me to replace the hard drive and hard drive data cable to try and resolve the issue. however, even after having done this the folder with the question mark is still appearing. i cannot get the os istall disk to boot properly. it recognises that the disk is in the drive but continually prompts me to restart and wont allow me to boot from the disk. sorry if my previouse discription wasnt accurate. does this soun familliar and can you help with this more detailed discription of the problem? thank you.

  • Possible to create a second handle on a point without moving the first one?

    Hello again,
Just had a question about something that often drives me crazy. Sometimes when I'm modifying an object (especially text that has been turned into outlines for logos etc) There are points on the path that I want/need to remove. Many of the times the points I'm removing had part of the curve that made the path look nice and smooth. For some reason Illustrator likes to create two points overlapping each other with a handle extending in opposite directions for each instead of one point with two handles...
In the cases where I have a point on a path with only one handle, whether it overlaps another point or not, is there a way to create a new handle on the opposite side where a handle doesn't exist without moving the handle that is already there? I hate fiddling with the path for 10 minutes afterwards trying to get everything back into the same position again. I would like to be able to drag out a new handle while locking the old handle in place, but the initial behavior of the convert anchor point tool seems to be to get rid of the old existing handle and recreate two new handles which resets everything.
Is there a way around this? A tool behavior option or maybe even a different tool that will let me just add the one handle to the point that is missing without moving or deleting the existing handle on that point? If it matters I'm using Illustrator CS5.5. Thanks for any help in advance!

Thanks for the responses guys! Unless someone comes along with a completely native Illustrator solution I think the Pathscribe tool is what I'm looking for. The unify command in that other post sounds like just the thing for the randomd weirdness Illustrator does when you convert text to outlines etc. and I'll probably mostly use that method for the overlapping points that are created in those case. I would say close to 50% of the time though I need to add a handle to a point that isn't overlapping like where a letter shape curves on one side but is straigh on the other. I guess a good example of that would maybe tip of the "v" shape in stylized or script fonts, they often have a straigh side and curved side. Sometimes it's also me because I'll go with a more straight line concept for a portion of the letter shapes and then change my mind back again, by which time I have removed some of the handles that I want to put back. It sounds like VectorScribe will do exactly what I want the way I want it and save me a lot of time having to zoom way in to get the fine control I need to restore the paths orginial curve.
All in all a pretty solid solution between the two. I'll have to pick up VectorScribe and will use unify where applicable. I don't understand though why this isn't something that Adobe hasn't made a native provisioin for? Seems there would be many times while making a design that you might want to change your mind without having to completely redraw the entirety of a curve, especially if you're doing an illustration from scratch. I thought there had to be a native solution and I was just somehow missing it completely... maybe they don't want to step on the 3rd party vendor's toes who have made plug-ins to deal with this sort of thing? Illustrator has been around a looong time now, seems like they would have come across this more than a few times... maybe I'm just not creating illustrations using the "proper" methods.

  • Application windows remembering original anchor points when moving or resizing

Recently it seems that most of my windows, especially iTunes, Safari, and Finder, seem to retain the anchor points from when they were opened and revert to their original position if a window is resized. I've noticed the following odd behaviors that seem to be related to this problem:
After moving an iTunes or Safari window, right-clicking will open the context menu in a location that corresponds to where the window was originally placed.
After moving a window, a drag-n-drop target remains relative to where the window was. For example, in iTunes, if I open the application and move the window, it becomes impossible to drag a song into a playlist (unless I drag the song to the location where that playlist was when the window originally opened). The same sort of thing happens with Finder windows. In the image below, a screen grab of a Safari window, I right-clicked on the signal strength display pictured on the phone to the left; notice the context menu way off to the right of the Safari window.
Resizing a Safari window makes the window first snap back to the original location, then allows the resize to occur.
Opening/closing a tab in Safari, when the action causes the tab bar to appear or disappear, causes the Safari window to snap back to the original anchored position.
I've noticed this behavior over the past week or so. It was about a week ago that I installed the 10.9.5 update to the OS, but I'm not sure if the problem pre-dated the update or not.
This is driving me insane. Does anyone have any suggestions or, hopefully, a fix?
    Thanks.

You can try running the combo update.

    Hi
Where did you notice this issue? Are any special applications running when this issue appears?
To be honest Im not sure about this issue but usually something like that can be related to keyboard malfunction
Therefore you should check if the keyboard needs to be replaced
Try to connect an USB keyboard and check if the same would happen
If not, then it's internal keyboard issue.

  • My macbook pro track pad is moving alone

hi, i have a macbook pro mid 2010. some times i i use my mac and suddenly my trackpad move alone i plugged a mouse and the same thing happened when it move alone i can't controlled any thing

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad or mouse, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Pointer not moving

Need some advice. My 7 month old IMAC wireless mighty mouse is scrolling fine but does not move the pointer...can someone help? Thanks!

    Hi Rich:
That file is located in Macintosh HD>library>preferences. Sometimes (rare, but it happens) preference files become corrupted - causing all sorts of odd behavior.
If that does not help, try resetting the PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not fix the problem, take the mouse to an Apple store or call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty issue. Apple does replace things under warranty at no cost (shipping paid both ways). I have had a mouse and keyboard replaced in the past and was pleased with the service.

  • Tone Curve beginning & end points - not moving

I am not the most technical guy in the world so I'll try to explain this as best as I can. In LR 4, why am I not able to drag the Tone Curve points up and down at the very start and end of the of the graph like in LR 3? I can drag them up and down everywhere except at the start and end points of the axis. This is one of my most used editing areas so it's quite disappointing and I can't get the result I want in LR 4. I have presets from LR 3 that can change the starting point on the tone curve but I can't fine tune it. Hopefully I explained this well enough because I would love some help on this. Cheers.

I think it's normal behaviour as per:
When you try to move vertically , the curve follows the lighter grey shape: this is region editing.
To do point curve editing  click on the little graph curve and then you can do what you want, as per:

  • The latest flash plugin 10.3.181.34 makes my mouse pointer disappear when pointer not moving (Windows Vista) - any thoughts?

When I start firefox 6.0 beta, the mouse pointer disappears once firefox has initialized itself. If I move the mouse pointer, it reappears, then disappears again when it is at rest.
If I disable the flash plugin, the mouse pointer behaves normally, i.e. it is always visible.

Firefox 5.0 does the same thing as stated above.

    I have to drag and drop counters on a screen, i have to drop them on the rectangle, so i cant drag outside the rectangle. this is the code i have , i have a null pointer at the int current = find(e.getPoint());

         if (current != null)
              x = e.getX();
              y = e.getY();

I doubt that e is null, so it must be something in the find method that throws a NullPointerException.
My guess is that either you have null values in rectangles or rectangles itself is null.

  • Cursor Pointer not moving via KeyPad

All of a sudden my touchpad isn't working. My cursor won't move using it. Even the 2 buttons on it won't work either. I don't have a button that  turns it on and off like my last computer so I have no idea why it did this all of a sudden.
Any ideas on how to get it to work again? I had to dig out my mouse which works thank goodness.

Im having an issue that the mouse moves after installing when the driver of the bamboo tablet.

I would love to tell you all is fine, but if you are sure that it happens only when both the mouse and keyboard is being used and there is a driver (most Blue tooth use the same interface, I've been told) maybe you are on the right path.  If for some resaon there is other Bluetooth devices transmitting around the area, maybe that's the problem.  As far as a diagnosis, it's difficult from a user standpoint.  I have one of the Mouse 4000 series that uses the Link-5 bluetooth interface and had problems controlling the mouse speed.  Finally found the answer, but HP will not allow the 'generally publicized specs' to be had.  I've tried a number of times, but no go.  I don't know how they go about escalation, if at all, but they haven't with me and my simple documents type questions.  They shouldn't even have to go far.
At least it's as simple as removing the USB dongle and replacing it.  I UNDERSTAND it's a pain in the **s, but it's better than the ol locked up PC when this type of stuff happens.  Don't give up and see what you can find, if enough people scream, they will have to do something.   I just need spec data about tracking dpi type stuff...
