Pointing my new domain name too my .mac homepage

Hi, please can someone tell me how to point my new domain name to my .mac account? I usually have to change DNS settings but I can't find them anywhere on this site.
Thanks

You may already figured this out, but I had the same problem and later learned that Apple will not provide a DNS number. I had to pay my domain host to forward my domain (aka "domain forwarding") so that someone typing in my domain is automatically forwarded to my Apple homepage. Even then, viewers will see the very long iWeb url in the domain/url field, and so to avoid that, you might consider paying a few more bucks to get "domain masking", which replaces the long winded iWeb urls with your domain. The only problem with that is no matter what page of your site the visiter is on it always says your domain (www.xxxxxx.com) in the domain/url field. Its a compromise, but at least you have the satisfaction of using your personalized domain name and the ease of use of Apple's iWeb system.

  • Post .mac site to another domain name still on mac server?

I have both a domain name that is .mac and a .biz url. I do not have another server to upload to (I just own the domain name), and would like to use my .mac website designed using iweb '06 v.1.1.2 and load it on the mac server but have the .biz url be the url the public will use... this is for a business website. How do I do this?
The directions in all the help files assume the use of another server holding the domain name... maybe this is a requirement, but seems to be a waste to have a .mac account but have to have such a convoluted url for the public.
    Is this possible?

    Hi there,
little correction: they don't assume having another server. They assume having it registered from a domain registrar. Which is quite different. You have to tell the domain registrar to point the domain to .mac.
This page may help... At least I hope it does...

  • Using a domain name with the mac site

If I use a domain name on Site #2, does that mean that Site #1 will automatically have the same domain name?
I already have a Site #1 up and running. Now I purchased a new domain name that I would like to use only for site# 2. I was worried about going in with any edits to Site #1 just in case it would go to the new domain name instead of where it is right now.
    Any light on that subject?

If you have 2 websites in the same domain folder the uppermost site or the site that you most recently published will be linked to your domain name. If you don't want it to be then you need to re-publish with the site that you want to be linked to your domain name is uppermost. You can move the sites around by dropping and dragging.
The easiest thing to do is to separate the sites so that you have site 1 in 1 folder and site 2 in another. Following this, the site that you publish first will be linked to your domain name. If it is not this site that you want then just publish the other site.
How do you have the first site set up? Is it using CNAME or web forwarding? Have you entered your personal domain name into your .Mac account?
If you have one .Mac account and two websites and two personal domain names, then you can use CNAME for one site and web forwarding with or without masking for the other site. You can only enter one domain name into one .Mac account.

  • Help:Domain name forwarding to .mac URL

Experts - newbie here - used iweb and built my site. Forwarded my domain name to the .mac URL and everytime I try to access the domain name I get a .mac screen that says my .mac iweb site does not exist. Seemed all rather simple with point and click so now what? Thanks

everytime I try to access the domain name I get a
.mac screen that says my .mac iweb site does not
    exist.
Most likely you made an error in the url. If you would provide the two urls someone could probably help you fix it, otherwise it's pretty impossible.

  • Netbios/Partial Qualified Domain name for a Mac?

Is it possible to set a Netbios/Partial Qualified Domain name for a Mac the way one sets it for a PC? If so, where can this be set? Apparently, this is what my router uses to report clients connected by DHCP.
    Mike

that did not work - I have a name entered in the
Sharing preference menu, and it does not show up.
Did you try setting the "DHCP Client ID" in the Network pane of System Preferences?
Even doing this may not work though... I know I had trouble getting a host name to show up correctly at my work. The DHCP server had picked up the previous name of my system and there didn't seem to be anything I could do from the client side to get it changed. The old system name was associated with my machines MAC address in the DHCP server and nothing I did from the client seemed to allow me to refresh the name the server had already latched onto. The network guys eventually had to delete the entry for my system off of the DHCP server and then allow my system to request a new IP address and refresh it's entry in the server. I have no idea how you might do something like this on a LinkSys router. I suppose the DHCP servers that run on these little personal routers are pretty rudimentary. I guess you might try doing some sort of reset on the router to see if it would reload client names. Or if you have your router configred to only allow connections from specific MAC addresses you might try deleting the entry for your Mac and then adding it back to see if that would trigger it to pick up a new client name.
sorry; I started a new thread because my question
is now much more focused. Someone told me the
Linksys router gets that info from the netbios name,
so I figured I should ask that specific question
with that specific subject title - maybe someone
knows how to specify this netbios name for a Mac,
but might not know or care anything about routers
    and my specific problem.
It seems understandable that PCs would send their NetBIOS names to a DHCP server... but it seems to me that a Mac would send it's "sharing" name. I doubt that a LinkSys router would specifically request a NetBIOS name, but I don't really know... I don't have any experience with them. I suppose you could try turning on "Window Sharing" in system preferences to see it that made you Mac look more like a Windows box to the router. :^\

  • New Domain Names and Contact Form Issue

    Hello all,
I'm working for a client who is using one of the newer domain name extensions. It reads like this: www.COMPANYNAME.farm
The .farm is a new extension.
On my contact form I use the e-mail address [email protected]
The e-mails are never sent through. You can submit a form, it says it sends successfully, but the e-mail is never received.
Any ideas if adobe muse has troubles with the new 'non-standard' domain extensions?
    Any other solutions?
    Thanks,
    Jonney

Sounds like you are hosting on GoDaddy? If so, there are plenty of threads on here with the same problem.
Generally what you need to do is create a dummy hotmail address and list it first. [email protected], [email protected] and that will likely fix your problem. Kind of a crazy work around but that is a GoDaddy issue (if in fact you are hosting with GoDaddy).

  • New domain name question

i just registered this domain name on godaddy.com:
    www.briantylermusic.com
the website link before, was this:
    http://web.me.com/cbarrywdw03/TheBrianTylerProject/Main.html
when i go to the new domain name, it shows up as this:
    http://briantylermusic.com/TheBrianTylerProject/Main.html
how can i get rid of the site name in the address?

Actually there is a way to remove the site name when publishing to MobileMe. However, if you have more than one site it will not work. It's spelled out here: IWEB : PUBLISH TO MOBILEME WITHOUT THE SITENAME IN THE URL. Remember you can have only one site published to your MMe account if you use this method.
If you can live with just www.briantylermusic.com in the URL of every page and only be able to bookmark and enter your site via the fist page use URL forwarding (instead of CNAME) with masking enabled. But remember the two caveats I mentioned. That could be a deal breaker depending on your site and the importance of individual pages.
Just my opinion but the look and content of the site is what catches people's eye and brings them back. This leads me to the fact that users won't even notice what's up there even if they bookmark it. The simple domain name will get them to the site and the content will keep bringing them back, not what the URL looks like. +Much ado about nothing+ as someone famous once wrote.

  • Create account with new domain names

    Hi there.
I'm trying to create an account with the new domain names ([email protected]). .works is part of the new domains names available all over in recent months, but in the sign up form it says the email is invalid when it's working perfectly and it's totally valid.
I've tryed to contact support without sucess. do you have any idea how I can register an account with my [email protected] ?
    Best regards,

Hi, Cesarcouto.com, and welcome to the Community,
Thank you for your report, which I have forwarded to those to whom I report.  Unfortunately, I do not know when this as well as many of the new domains will be recognized by Skype's new account creation system as valid.

You're looking for something completely different if
what you're after is to have your DHCP server (your
    router) report your computer name.
yep - that's what I'm looking for but everything else didn't pan out so I'm following up the suggestion of our IT guy (which is that it reports the Netbios name).
I don't know what brand or model of router you're
using but with a Linksys brand router it reports the
    yep - I've got a Linksys, about 2 years old (802.11b).
computer name, which is set on your Mac under Apple
menu --> System Preferences... --> Sharing. The
Linksys router will report the computer name
typically found under Status --> Local Network -->
    DHCP Clients Table.
nope - I've got it set as "Michael Levin Laptop", but the Linksys router shows it (and all of the other Macs on the network) as "¸#Єª"... Any way to debug this?
What you'll notice is that none of this has anything
to do with Windows. Today's basic networking is
    platform agnostic.
I thought so; it was a desperation move, based on my IT person's suggestion...
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • AD Migration from NT 4.0 using New Domain Name & Unity UM

The customer currently has Unity 3.1(5) UM with Exchange 5.5 in NT 4.0 domain. They will be migrating to AD 2000 during phase 1 of the project, which will be followed by Unity upgrade to 4.0(4) a few weeks afterwards.
During the phase 1, Exchange 2003 will be introduced, but the mailboxes will remain in Exchange 5.5 until phase 2.
Here is the migration path proposed by the customer for the phase 1.
    1. Current DNS will be isolated to a W2K server with the new domain defined in the DNS. All servers will point to this DNS server as their primary.
    2. A BDC will be setup and then removed from our network.
    3. Our PDC will be upgraded to Windows 2000 server. AD will be setup with a new domain of XXX.PRV
    4. Service packs will be applied to the server.
    5. The AD connector will be installed for Exchange 5.5
    6. An additional W2K server will be brought online as a DC and additional global catalog.
I do realize that domain name change is not supported for Unity, but would this have any impact on Unity? Basically, the PDC that will be upgraded to W2K DC will retain old domain name (XXX_NT) as the NetBios name whereas the new DNS domain name will be XXX.PRV.
Since Unity does not need to talk to AD or Exchange 2003 at all until the phase 2, I’m thinking this would be okay, but wanted to get some expert opinions on it. Also, the customer has tested some legacy servers in the lab, and they were able to authenticate against the XXX_NT domain name in the new XXX.PRV AD environment.
Phase 2 will consist of the following tasks.
    1. Run DB Walker.
    2. Back up using DiRT.
    3. Extend AD schema.
    4. Upgrade Unity to 4.0(4).
    5. Disconnect Unity from Exchange 5.5.
    6. Upgrade Exchange System Manager on Unity.
    7. Re-establish Exchange partner relationship using Exchange 2003.
    8. Run DB Walker.
    9. Move Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to Exchange 2003.
    Thank you bunch!
    Han

Your project (from oh so long ago) looks very similar to what I am proposing to do now.  I currently run Cisco Unity 4.0.4 SR1 with Exchange 5.5 (Unified Messaging), on an NT4 network.  I have recently upgraded my network to Windows 2003 with Active Directory.  I am building a new Exchange 2003 server in the new domain but not upgrading Unity 4.0.4--at least, not yet.  I am looking to change the Partner Exchange server to point at the new Exchange server.  I see no docs that cover such a scenario--only lateral moves (5.5 to 5.5, 2003 to 2003).  As long as the ADC is in place, do you think I even have to change the Partner server when my new Exchange server comes online (initially)?  How did your project turn out?  Did you have to change the process you outlined above?
    Thanks for any info!

  • Pointing an existing domain name to business catalyst.

    Hi there,
I have an existing site called www.design180.co.nz. But I have designed a new site. I want to replace the old site with the new one Ive redesigned Adobe in muse. The hosting company has the domain name, I will need them to point the domain name to the business catalyst, where the new site will be hosted. Ive 5 free accounts so I will use one of them. This is where I am stuck... Does he point to "ns1.worldsecuresystems.com (54.236.190.129)" - primary DNS server.
At present the site is set up as a trial in Muse design18002.businesscatalyst.com
After he points to the site can i save the muse site as www.design180.co.nz

Hi there, I am guessing your reading the documentaiton. That is correct, if your pointing all traffic to your BC site you need to use those NS records.
What you then do is go into your site admin, into site settings and manage domains. You need to set up your domain in there.
Once you do that, it can take up to 24 hours for a .com, but for a .co.nz it should take about an hour or so tops to propergate. ISP's cache dns different so some may take longer, especially if someone is viewing outside NZ.

There are currently 2 blog style pages on there and both of the RSS feeds point to an old domain name address rather than the .mac address.
I've looked through the posts here, but haven't been able to find a solution. I've checked on another computer using iweb and this problem doesn't occur, so I figure it's a setting on that editing machine?

Make sure that you have nothing set in the Personal Domain part of the .Mac account settings.
