Pointing Stick cable clip lost - how to replace?

Hi,
I bought a used HP 8440w in very good condition, except the pointing stick does not work and some of the keys on the keyboard were not consistent functional.
When I opened up the laptop, I saw that the clip on the keyboard zif ribbon cable was only half on.  I've fixed the keyboard issue now by securing the keyboard zif cable clip. The ribbon cable for the pointing stick was loose because the clip was missing.  There is no way for me to secure it.
Can I just order a clip instead of ordering a whole replacement keyboard?
The keyboard is perfectly fine now. I don't want to pay $50+ just to replace a tiny plastic part.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Qnana,
I understand you are in need of a part for your HP 8440w. If you look at this site, you should be able to find the part if its replaceable.

  • How to replace a clip in timeline whilst maintaining in/out points

    Hi
    I've been working on editing some interview footage in FCPX. I have a bunch of clips put together in the timeline. Now I wanted to do some editing to the audio, which I did in Audacity. I re-imported the fixed audio and synced it with the original video clip. Now I want to replace the old clip in the timeline with the new clip with fixed audio. The problem is that when I do a replace, it inserts the whole of the new clip. Can I get it to match my existing in/out points?
    Yes I'm new to this.
    Thanks very much

    Thanks Tom. I actually figured a way to do what I wanted. In the timeline I right clicked the clip I wanted to replace, choose open in timeline, then you can just drag and replace the entire clip but it keeps the in/outs. I was sure you could do it somewhere!

    First thing I would do is look in the trash and if it isn't there look in the System Preferences and I am sure it will be in there.

  • How to Replace an 11" Air Display Cable??

    Hello-
    I recently bought an 11" Mid 2011 Air for a great deal. The issue is the old Display Cable, which the guy called the LCD Ribbon (I'm assuming it's the same thing) is suspected as being broken because there are lines going up and down the screen for a few inches mid screen. Anyone know of any instructions on how to replace that, or can anyone help me with instructions?
    Is that a difficult replace?
    Thanks for looking and for the help!
    Richie

    There are several videos online that detail the repair (Google is your friend), and you can see how difficult it is to replace the cable.

  • How do you set the in point of a clip?

    I'm using the timeline template that has a number of clips flying by and I need to adjust the in point of the clips. To be clear, I'm NOT trying to adjust the point that the clip appears in the timeline but instead the portion of the clip that will be displayed as it fly's by within the Motion timeline.

    All that that seems to do is set the in point of the clip on the Motion timeline. Again, what I am attempting to do is change what is seen on the particular clip that has been dropped into this template. Where the inset clip window appears on the timeline is fine but I want is a later portion of the video within that clip to be shown as it is flying by. As it is now the clip is just beginning to show the footage I want as it is flying out of view.

  • How is your mouse setup in xorg? (with a trackpad and pointer stick)

    I have found plenty of information on the web to assist in setting
    the pointers in xorg.  I have a new Dell D830.  It has both
    a pointer stick and a trackpad.
    I want to make sure I have this setup in a sane way.
    I'm wondering if anyone has solved these and wants to post a working
    xorg.conf for me to try.
    1.  Is there anyway to control the speed of the pointer stick?  I had to do
    xset m 1 1 to cancel out acceleration which made it usable.  I can live with
    it, but I would like to have more control if possible.
    2.  The trackpad is working including the vertical scroll on the right.  But, double
    tapping a word in any editor doesn't select the word, triple tapping selects it for a
    second, and then deselects it.  It is seen the double clicks, though.  I can roll up
    a window in Fluxbox by double tapping the title bar.
    Note, both the pointer stick and trackpad work somewhat with this single device.  I'm puzzled
    a bit by this.  I have quite a few devices to choose from.  /dev/event6 seems to do this.
    Or may be it's the SendCoreEvents option.

  • How to replace hard drive and transfer everything over?

    I've looked everywhere but am unable to find a definitive guide on how to do this.
    Currently I have an early 2011 MBP that came with Snow Leopard and upgraded to Lion later. It has an HDD and I want to replace it with an SSD and transfer everything over to the SSD. Considering Lion created a Recovery partition (and there is also an EFI partition), I'm confused on how to do this the best way to basically copy my current hard drive to the new SSD.
    The best I've figured out is to connect the SSD with a SATA-USB cable, use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant ( http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433 ) to create a Recovery partition on the new SSD, then, booting into Recovery, install Lion on the new SSD, and then use Migration Assistant to transfer all my files over.
    Is there a simpler or better-explained way to basically copy my current hard drive over to a new SSD and then remove the HDD and use the SSD?

    How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
    Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
    Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
    Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • Left command key has broken off - how to replace?

    So a few days ago I caught my left command key with my nail and the top half of it lifted away from the mechanism underneath. I pressed it until I heard it click back into place and then merrily continued using my computer as usual. Today I was typing and the whole thing just came off under my thumb, which is annoying to say the least.
    The biggest issue is that as I was trying to reconnect key to mechanism, the little criss-cross doohickey came off as well! I am left with a little silicon nipple which, while titilating, is not really conducive to the kind of high volume typing I'm used to!
    I really don't want to pay 40 bucks to get Apple Support to replace a single key for me - I just need to know how to do it myself. It's only one key and I could probably learn to get used to using the right one, but it would be easier if I could just click it back into place. It's not broken, the mechanism itself seems fine and the key works if I push the little nubbin, so I'm not concerned about that. I just think $40 is too much to pay someone to click a key back into place! I wasn't even doing anything out of the ordinary with it like trying to remove or replace the keys T^T
    I'm especially gutted since I just bought a new iPhone from the same Apple shop I bought my laptop like three days ago - if I'd known my laptop was gonna bust I'd have saved myself the money and spent it on repairs instead! Fml, right?
    Any help you folks can offer would be very gratefully received - if it comes down to it and I have to fork out the money then I'll do so, but I'd like to explore community options first on the off chance that someone knows how to replace the mechanism and key without having to lug my computer all the way into the city to get it fixed xD
    Thanks in advance!
    Ehryn

    It's pretty easy to do, get something thin like a credit card and run it along the bottom and sides of the keyboard and there are several bracket things that will pop the keyboard up when you pressure them. There will be a couple of cables to clip out behind it so lift it up gently.
    You should be able to find a video on youtube anyway!
    Try this site for the keyboard http://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/toshiba_qosmio_laptop_key.html
    It shouldn't be too hard to track a replacement down.

    I recently purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad E440 from the official lenovo website and received it two days ago. I would like to use the TrackPoint pointing stick but I can't enable it via 'Mouse Properties' in Control Panel as the entire TrackPoint section is faded out (you can't check the box that says enable). Could someone please advise me on how I can enable the trackpoint? Not sure if this is important but the laptop has Windows 8.1 installed.Thank you.

    Hi Pbahal,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
    I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Track Point on ThinkPad E440.
    I suggest you to uninstall current version of ThinkPad UltraNav driver, and download the latest driver for Windows 8.1 OS from the Lenovo link and install to resolve the issue.
    Below is the link to enter the downloads page and install Wifi driver and check accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

  • How to replace a field's search help of DDIC in FPM feeder class?

    Hi All,
    I want to replace a field's search help in DDIC structure, for an example, in structure HCMT_BSP_PA_XX_R0009, the field BANKL(Bank Keys) has a search help named 'H_BANKL', I want to replace this search help with other one such as 'H_BANKEY' in the FPM feeder class CL_HRESS_PER_DETAIL, I redefined such method:
    method if_fpm_guibb_form~get_definition.
    field-symbols: <fs_field_description> like line of et_field_description.
    call method super->if_fpm_guibb_form~get_definition
    importing
    es_message = es_message
    eo_field_catalog = eo_field_catalog
    et_field_description = et_field_description
    et_action_definition = et_action_definition
    et_special_groups = et_special_groups
    ev_additional_error_info = ev_additional_error_info.
    read table et_field_description assigning <fs_field_description> with key name = 'BANKL'.
    set search help name of field 'bank key'
    if <fs_field_description> is assigned.
    <fs_field_description>-ddic_shlp_name = 'H_BANKEY'
    endif.
    endmethod.
    I test it and found the search help window was replaced indeed, but all the value of import/export parameters in the new search help was lost, it means, the value of import paramer BANKS(Bank country) and the export parameter BANKA(bank name) were lost. Only the value of BANKL itself can be returned by the new search help window. Can you give me some suggestions about how to maintain the link( value exchange) between structure HCMT_BSP_PA_XX_R0009 and dynamically defined search help 'H_BANKEY' in FPM feeder class?
    I tried to use sap memory ID but it doesn't works well.

    This question was answered at [Webdynpro Forum|how to replace a field's search help of DDIC in FPM feeder class?;:
    That is because for the import and export of DDIC Search help values to work in WDA, not in FPM layer.Feeder Class can do nothing about it.

    How do I zoom to a specific point on a clip or picture?
    Whenever I try to use this feature it just goes to the centre of the clip.
    Thank-you.

    Make sure Image + Wireframe is selected in the Canvas:
    Select the clip you want to zoom in on and reposition on the timeline by clicking on it. Once it is selected on the timeline, the turquoise box and cross hairs should appear in the canvas.
    If you click and drag on one of the boxes on the corner, you can resize your image:
    And if you click and drag on the image itself, you can change the clips position:
    You may need to change the canvas display scale to see the handles after you zoom in:

  • Jumping to a specific point in a clip

    How can I jump to a specific point/frame in a clip? Example: I know a clip is exactly 3:40 long. How could I go to 3:37?
    Thanks.

    If you have the clip loaded in the Viewer window and the Viewer window highlighted, it will take you to that point in the clip, if you have the Timeline highlighted, it will take you to that point in the Timeline. You can also save a few keystrokes by just hitting "3.37." to skip to 3 minutes and 37 seconds, for example.

  • Satallite A100: How to replace the keycaps?

    Is there a manual on how to replace the keycaps after they come off?
    My Satallite A100, one year old, lost two keycaps a few weeks ago, and I am unable to replace them, although I have all the (little) parts. It got even worse when some more came loose recently when my little son peeled some off, using the room created by the already missing keycaps.
    Thanks!

    Hello Mike
    Reading your posting I can not understand exactly what is wrong with your keyboard but removing and putting in place keycaps (plastic with written symbol) is not problematic. You must just put it right in place and gently press it down. You will hear click and the keycap will be in the place again.
    Under this keycap is placed small plastic mechanism. It contains two small plastic parts. If they are removed from the bottom you can put them inside again. To see how it looks like remove keycap from any other key and see how is it placed.
    I have done the same now and with a little bit patience you can put it in the right position again.
