Hi,

Well, the case of the multiple Jacobs was easy. They have been erased. They were dumber than most and made it some elementary mistakes which I could track. This isn't the case all the time. While it may seem frustrating to you, it would be more frustrating if I were to delete two real users that we assumed were the same person simply because the answer to a question is given within an extremely short time span. And yes, to my knowledge there is nothing "illegal" at this point for two separate individuals to IM each other about asking questions and then giving answers. Admittedly, they could be a bit brighter about it and allow at least 5 minutes to pass, but not everyone is as smart as us.
Also worthy of note. The thread cited concerning X and Y contains links to a number of different threads involving many people. This Jacobs deal is only the most recent one added to that thread. Others in it, I have investigated and could not prove categorically that the questioner and answerer were the same person. I'm currently using a kind of US Judicial system based theory in which guilt must be beyond the shadow of a doubt. Naturally, I can't list out all the things that I look for behind the scenes to deduce whether I have a duplicate person as that would defeat my investigative methods.
I know the forums team met recently and discussed this problem. I am sure they will be coming out with guidelines as to what I should use as a barometer for deciding these things. Until such time, I will continue to do these based on my current methodology.
Sorry, but as a famous US president once said, "You can't please all of the people all of the time".
Regards,
David

• For Gali Kling : another points hunter

Dear Gali Kling,
I have always felt that SDN forums are a place where people contribute with interest and enthusiasm and points just a matter of appreciation.
But this new bud ( SHESAGIRI GEDILA ) seems to make points by telling " Sent mail reward points " concept.
Most unfortunate is he becomes the top 3 in SAP SD forum.
please take a note at these links where the time is also very narrow. how on earth could this be possible ???

Keep  it simple.  Problem resolved by replacing text with link.  Providing links is legitimate.  Not giving credit for content isn't.

• Point crazy on SDN

Having used this forums for a while, I have to say it can have some supply some very valuable information.
What I also notice is that some people are just crazy for earning points.
Here's a situation: Someone asks a question. One person answers with a great solution. An hour later, someone else gives the exact same answer and signs off with: Don't forget to give points! How silly is that? And for most: WHY? Why would you repeat an answer? For points?
I thought this forum was for people to help eachother, but it seems that for some people it's just a was to elbow yourself into the picture. Sad...
Cheers,

• Reward points

I don't know how you guys feel about it, but I find it rather frustrating that one puts time in reading and answer forum posts and the original poster doesn't care to reward anybody for the effort. My suggestion would be to automatically reward all the posts after X time if the original poster doesn't do it. And if the poster still post questions without rewarding, he should be excluded after the Xth time. Btw, I'm not a point hunter at all (I've only 26 points or so).

Hi Eddy,
the problem, that you get points from poster X and don't get some from poster Y will exist as long as SDN will exist. <b>But</b> IMHO the main intention of any contributor on SDN should be, well, just to contribute without asking for "Thank you"s and/or points. Locking somebody out for not rewarding is a total overclocking of the reward system from my point of view. Where will you stop then? One logical consequence of locking somebody out for not rewarding would be to lock somebody else out for not giving a correct answer (like i also did, for example in this Determining the number of new lines in a string). If you insist, you could start opening a personal "black list" of posters, which didn't reward your answers once or twice or whatever.
On the other hand, an automated rewarding is actually impossible, since it's (at the moment, because of the existing restrictions in artificial intelligence) not possible to rate an answer without human interaction. There are already some "helpful hands" which scan the forums for unrewarded answers (although the decisions which answer in case of multiple answers gets how many points is not always reasonable).
Regards
Stefan

• Fix loophole

Hi, im AzureVinh and I found a loophole on how to make an iTunes account without a credit card! I was hoping that to save a trip to Apple @ the Mall of GA, i decided to make an account this method and spread the news.
The Steps to make a "looped" account is
1. find a free iTunes music code
2. punch it in
3. you will get an error, then click on the home button
4.Click Login and make a new account,
5. Now under payment method, you will have the choice "none"
6. create your account.
~~~The Story about this Account~~~
I asked my dad if he could punch in his credit card number to make a an iTunes account, but he was scared that Apple do something bad with it,(not that it will, I know Apple is a trusted company), so as a 12 year old geek would do, he used Google and found the method and decided to tell Apple about this "exploit."
Well, thats it, thank you for your time!
Please see the following threads regarding point hunting.
Once it is brought to notice of Moderators or Community Team necessary action is taking (including deletion of both ids from the backend side).
• How to delete autocomplete memory?
I factory reset my iPad mini for my Mum. She set it up as a new device and signed in to her iCloud. However, although ALL my data has gone, it still autocompletes her messages and emails with contacts from my long-gone address book? Worse still, after a high pitch shrieking session it created between itself and her iPhone (SO odd, never heard anything like it - v loud interference?) her iPhone now does the same - so this "ghost" memory has now been absorbed into her iCloud account.
Factory reset does NOT delete this autocomplete memory.
There is no way I can go through 300+ contacts on both devices and manually do this? Even if there were a way it needs deleting from her iCloud account now
HOW is this possible? Or allowed? If anyone sells a device it will still have personal information on it!
• SDN BCS Mentor's steep personnel comments for technical questions..
Please read the thread and let us know if this is the sort of attitude, SDN BCS mentor should continue in the forum..
ECC reported results
When we are literally looking for technical help, we write in the forum.
Mentor may help or may not help. May guide , may not guide.
But getting too personnel is discouraging and to larger extend it does spoil the reputation of SDN forum.
Who is he to ask about my brain and education.. Do the mentor need to go too far?
He is literally trying to stop me from asking question in the forum and I donot want to feel suffocated.
Hello,
Ok my part of the story, very sketchy. The prehistory.
One man joined the BCS and Financials forums a little more than half year ago.
Tried to be very active. Pretending to be experienced and having many projects implemented.
Answering almost all BCS forum's questions. Very often not correctly or  just by rephrasing the others answers.
Several people told him not to answer for the sake of giving answer if he doesn't know the correct answer.
Had confrontation with some of such people.
Created several fake accounts-clones. Clones were used for posting questions and attacking opponent.
There is no need to say that answers given to clones questions were rewarder if answered by the man.
Clones were discovered and deleted. But the man's account was left intact.
Here is a couple of threads in confirmation:
Re: Statistical Item
Re: Business Partner Data uploading
The Man disappeared some time ago.
Then appeared again after renaming of external presentation of his user.
The 1st question in the question quated is of the sort "For which purposes accounts are used in FI?" and usually the link from sap.help is enough. Trying to uderstand a little who is this person I found out that it is our hero. But simply under other name. Pretending to be a guru in the past and now not knowing how to use search in forums.
Maybe I didn't restrain my temper. Sorry for that.
I have two questions to community:
1. Should I have restrained myself and give more polite answer, knowing all this prehistory?
2. Should the user who used to create fake accounts for points hunting remain a part of the community?
• BPX: a futile idea?
I came across a thread that was not related to points hunting, that made me question whether SDN/SCN is really accepted as place to discuss topics that don't involve how to write ABAP or Java, or install a system.
This thread that I found and the reply at the end made me wonder how seriously the SDN/SCN forums are taken?
Re: using configurable products in IC Web
The comment that got me thinking from the thread was:
The Quote is a bit more interesting of a topic, since you could either call the CRM Quote or use the standard Interaction Center sales order options (of which there are a few) such as CRM Sales Order, CRM Sales Ticket, ERP Order, or R/3 order. This is probably more a business decision that should be discussed with your project team and consultants rather than taking the advice of some guy on the Internet
Does this mean that when it comes to the business process discussions that SDN/SCN is really not meant to be a serious forum?
I know the there is some sarcasm in the quote, but seriously what's the point of having BPX type discussions here if questions like this are dismissed as the "wrong place" to ask.  I agree that the final decision should always be with the onsite team, but the whole point of being to collaborate is to share knowledge with other "teams" that don't exist in your physical/geographical boundaries.
I guess is SDN/SCN more than just a bunch of random people answering other random people's questions.
Take care,
Stephen
Rob,
I agree that this probably the case in this situation.  I guess the more general question is that this was posted in the CRM forum and not the ABAP general?  If something is solution specific can you still have "process" discussions vs the discusssions on BAPI names, etc?
If the questions presented are trying to go beyond "point-hunting", "table-listing", "etc." then more these "strategy" questions need to be nutured/discussed out in the forums.  You can't necessarily solve the problem, but the discussion is necessary to figure out the correct direction of the solution.  The question is how do you improve the quality of the conversation, without supporting leeching?
Take care,
Stephen
