Points Of Interest on Maps

Is it possible to add points of interest to the new Apple Maps, or does Apple itself have to do it? If it is possible, how can I do it?

Mapviewer is not rendering the maps with SSO authentication. With out this the map is rendered. When I run the omserver?getv=t I get the following instead of the version number...

How Do iOS 6 Map Points Of Interest Get Added to The Map

Really love the new mapping. Adding Points of Interest (PoI) through some mechanism of croud sourcing would seem to be the way Apple would go.
Would welcome an App that took your location, had an optional photo capablity and stamped out a PoI. PoI's should be croud sourced into the map by votes (aka Digg ish mechanism). PoI's could also be voted off the map (Trapster).
Imagine having a million customers out there supporting the PoIs in Apple's Maps... Maybe there already is such a system / applciation / web site? Anyone?

I agree, I spent quit a bit of time updating open street map for the town I live in, adding all the car parks, ATM's as many shops as I could, hotels, Bars, adjusting the 1 way streets, adding footpaths and even adding the bits of grass that would help people find their way. I had hoped apple would use this data given iPhoto started to pull from it.
I would be more than happy to edit the maps around my town, and if certain trusted people were allowed this access it would increase the usablity of the new maps app dramamtically. Currently i use google maps saved to my home screen.

Book Maps Points of Interest?

Is there any way to shuffle the points-of-interests in the dialog box of a map page? I cannot find a way, and it is very time consuming to have to delete the pois up to the point I want to add a new one. Then re-enter them again. Thanks.

Points of Interest at Google Maps

Hi there,
I would like to know, if i can add points of interest at google maps that isn't recognize by google map.
For exemple; there is a Place at my city, that will be a new House of Music, but if i search for it at iphone's google maps, it does not find it. So, i would like to bookmark or add a point of interest at this place. Is that possible, even without the place exist at google maps database??

Wrong answer was given. You can put arbitrary latitude and longitude coordinates into the google maps app on the iphone, just as you can on the google maps website. Try opening maps on your phone and put this address in:
30.274680, -97.735910
Notice it is smack dab in the middle of Waterloo Park, where I just spent a lovely afternoon
If you don't know the coordinates, try going to the google driving directions website (in a web browser on a computer...the won't work on the iphone), click the driving directions tab, and right click on the spot you want, click Add Destination. Now you'll see the coordinates. There are other better ways to find coordinates too which I'm sure you can find yourself.

Point of interest coordinates data clean

Hi everybody. I am a windows phone developer and I have developed an app where users can add point of interest on a map. Many users add the same POI and so I have the same point replicated many times but not with exactly the same coordiates. For example
one can add a fuel station 10 meters before or after another user. I am not familiar with machine learning, before starting to study azure ML do you think is it possible to solve my problem (clear data obtaing ONE poi from MANY MANY similar data) with it?
If yes what kind of algorithm should I look at?

It sounds like your question is that you're getting a bunch of users who are placing POIs within a certain radius of a central location, such as a fuel station. You want all of those POIs to map to the fuel station, and it's just one POI, not 5
different ones all within 10 meters of each other. Is that correct?

I think the easiest thing to do is to look at the data that you have of all the duplicates and each validated POI. Sort by the distance and see if there's a dropoff. For example, if you have 5 POIs, and the distances to your validated POI is
2, 2, 3, 4, and 7, then maybe 4 can be your cutoff point. Any POI within 4 meters will be considered a duplicate. Look at all POIs and see if there's a pattern.
I think machine learning may be overkill here. There are a lot of interesting applications that you can consider in the future, in trying to predict what users are trying to pick. You can consider what you know about the user, e.g. are they planning
a trip and picking fuel stations? Then you can suggest fuel stations if they end up picking something down the street.

I have a CSV file which contains a large list of locations,
which I would like to turn in to a Tom Tom point of interest file.
Does anyone know of a quick and easy way of producing these files
with PHP? or do you know of some software that would be able to do
it as the CSV file will be updated all the time and new locations
added to it so I don't really want to be doing this manually all
the time.

Use group Point of Interest

Would it be possible to allow a comunity based POI Feature add on for ovi maps?
Nokia could provide the handling of those POI (Place to store, format for POI, Editor to edit POI etc.)
THe comunity collects and provide groups of POI

Understanding point theme of dvt:map component

for usage of point theme..we have to mention either latitude and longititude or address and city and country and postal code
i want to know exactly what is latitude and longitude (these values varies if you use google maps and oracle maps ) and
in my data source i am also having x-cor ,y-cor ,longitude, latitude in every row
when using point theme.if i select X & Y(longitude & latitude).. is it sufficient to give latitude and longtitude..then purpose of x and y co-ordinates in data source...

Dynamically add data points to U.S. Map from excel file?

Hi,
I have an illustrator U.S. map and I have an excel spread sheet with 1,000's of zip codes. I need to add dots on my map for each zip code. How do I do that dynamically? This is going into an annual report so the design needs to be kept in Illustrator and the dot style needs to be adjustable.
Please let me know if there is a solution as opposed to manually looking up the zip codes and copy/pasting 1,000's and 1,000's of dots.

Not sure I follow exactly what you have in mind. You just want to have a dot at the location of each zip code on a map of the US? Are the dots going to be individually labeled? Individually named objects? Isn't there something like 40,000 zip codes in the US?
You don't provide much information about the problem. What kind of map? Does it already have individual objects drawn in the shape of zip codes and you just want a dot in the middle of each? Are you literally just starting with an outline of the whole US?
What kind of columns are in your spreadsheet? For example, do you have latitude/longitude data cells for each zip code? I don't think there is any geographical reference system embedded in a zip code. It's just a number.
Illustrator isn't going to recognize a *shape* as the state of Georgia, for example, unless that object already has some kind of identifier within Illustrator. So obviously, you would need some kind of 2D reference table to tell whatever automation scheme you employ where to place each dot on an XY coordinate grid.

I suspect you're probably trying to reinvent the wheel here, but it would not be a difficult Javascript problem, once armed with the three-field data. This would be the general scheme:
1. Start with a data table with three columns: Zip Code, Latitude, Longitude.
2. Write an AI Javascript which does these things:
-Contains a function which uses a simple multiplication scheme to effectively scale the Lat/Long values into X and Y divisions of your Artboard area.
-Contains a loop which cycles through the Lat/Long values, calls the function to translate each into X/Y page coordinates, and places a pre-defined Symbol (an AI Symbol, in the sense of the Symbols Palette) at each coordinate pair. Using Symbol Instances would enable you to use the various Symbols-related commands to later globally swap out or edit the symbols.
-The script could optionally name each of the instances by its zip code, if necessary.
3. After running the script, simply scale and position the map (probably on an underlying Layer) proportionally so that two points on it correspond to any two known lat/long coordinates. The rest of the map would then correspond to the dots on the grid.
But again, I strongly suspect this has all been done before. You could probably buy a vector graphic file like what you need from a map clipart source and then just edit it stylistically for your use.

TS1702 I updated to iOS6 and the Passbook shows as an icon on the phone, but not in the list of applications. Is this a useless app at this point? And, the maps - not nearly as nice as Google. (Sheesh, did I just say that?)

I updated from iOS 5.1 to iOS 6. The Passbook App appears as an app, but not in the list that appears to the left. It won't open, and it won't let me access iTunes Store from this App. Suggestions?
The maps are AWFUL. I cannot believe I am saying this, but I prefer GOOGLE maps.

What list? Where is this "left"?

One photo showed up under two points of interests (POI)

I imported photos from vienna made with my new Sony DSC-HX5V. Places where assigned through GPS coordinates during import. I did some manual changes to places for photos taken inside buildings. That's fine, so far.
Then I recognized that some photos were listed under two POIs (forth and last column in places). Here an example:
Some photos are taken inside the 'Albertina' and I tagged those pictures to 'Graphische Sammlung Albertina' (graphic collection Albertina) which showed up when I search the map. This automatically puts 'Albertinaplatz' (Albertina Place) to the place information too. I could see this in the extended photo information. This also happens if I put a new pin to the the same place on the map.
That's not far away, because the Albertina-building is located at the Albertina Place, but it is not correct.
Other photos I made inside the 'Schatzkammer' (treasury) and where manually tagged got the second POI of the 'Spanische Hofreitschule' (Spanish Court Riding School). That's nonsense.
Is there way to remove the second POI from the places information, to get rid of this problem?

If you want to share your Aperture Library, you will have the least problems with alternatingly accessing it from different accounts, if your Aperture Library resides on a separate disk, or disk partition. A "Shared Folder" may be problematic - there have been issues with wrong access control lists and apparently unsupported video Re: Aperture cannot read newly imported video since Lion upgrade.. If you put your Aperture library on a separate disk (or partition) you should set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag for this volume, and then your wife and you should be able to read and write the Aperture Library without problems.
Also, an Aperture library needs to be located on a local, MacOS Extended formated volume, and the performance is best, if the volume is internal, not external. Is it possible to add a second internal disk to your iMac?
I am sure you know, that Aperture is a single user application; so only one person at a time should access your Aperture library.

Unfortunately, I have Dealer Spatial information in a single table where all the dealers are differentiated by a column say dealer_make and it contains values like 'HONDA' , 'PORSCHE' etc.
Now my question is how do I find nearest Honda dealer or nearest PORSCHE Dealer?
Above query will not work if I am near the porsche dealership and ask for a nearest Honda dealership.
Is there any other way to find a certain number of nearest Honda dealers? I can not use SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE query because I have no idea where the dealership is so that I can give distance?

Hi Arun,
You have a caught on to a significant gotcha in 8.1.6 regarding nearest neighbor - enough people have had the same issue that in 9i you'll be able to do the query simply and elegantly. In 8.1.6 it is a little less elegant.
Basically what you need to do is kick the sdo_num_res value up, and add a predicate as something like "where dealer_make='PORSCHE'" to the query.
Also, why have a separate address table? You should have all of the data in the same table to get the maximum benefit from Oracle and Oracle spatial.

Note that I put sdo_num_res=X - the X is dependent on what you think the percentage of dealers is that deals in PORSCHE automobiles - if 2 % of dealers are PORSCHE dealers and you want to see 2 in the final answer, then sdo_num_res should probably be something over 100. Note this won't guarantee you will always see two porsche dealres, but it does make it likely.
As I said earlier, in 9i this gets easier (and faster).

How can I view all my apple map pushpin Points of Intrest and pictures at once?

Been trying to find a way to view all my Apple Maps Points of Interest pushpins all at once on the map screen. As I drive along routing, or when I zoom in and out of map areas. Saved bookmarks shows a long list, but I can't figure out how to just view all the pushpins on the map, so I can access my favorite locations and notes as I drive or plan a trip.
Maybe create a map pushpin folder to save only pictures related to the saved map bookmarks. And save on phone or skydrive? I still just go by memory. But the list, notes and scenes are getting really numerous. RV campsites, fishing, biking, skiing, services, phone signal, shopping, wifi, laundry, jobs, pictures, and much more.
I have an old HP mini that I like and use with my iphone 4. Have no interest or extra money to be upgrading my devices every time the software/bloatware updates overload otherwise perfectly good phones and laptops. Hope to be able to share with others how to have their phones and computers work for them, instead of the other way around.
Might stay with iPhone and even buy an ipad if they become more univerally compatible, or switch to all windows devices. Not too happy with PCs bloatware programming these days either. My old windows 98 laptop runs some really powerful programs. Wonder how many people would buy Jeeps and such vehicles, if they could not easily drive them on regular city streets or highways?
