Poker Tournament style overlays in Apple Motion

Working on student film project and can not seem to find alot of info on doing this but...does anyone know of any good tutorials on how I might be able to replicate the Championship Poker styled lower thirds and overlays with cards and what not? I am wondering how this can be done in Motion or FCP.
Or are there any good pre built overlay templates that I might use to fake this type of style?

You'll want to do the Motion tutorials from Ripple Training. Especially the one on Replicators, which does a lot of this same stuff.

Sorry, but capture cards lik the Matrox MXO2 don't boost performance with MOTION. Only a better graphics card will. And with a laptop, you can't swap out what you have. You have what you have. For better performance, you would need to get a MacPro and a higher end graphics card.
Capture cards don't factor in here.

How can I make a ball bounce in Apple Motion 5

Can someone please tell me how to make a ball bounce in Apple Motion 5? I want it to fall from the top of the canvas and bounce a few times in the middle of the canvas. And I can't seem to figure out how to make the gravity and edge collision behaviors work. Someone please help a girl out! Thanks

Add all the behaviors to the circle shape (or whatever you want to fall and bounce.)
When you add the Edge Collision behavior, it is automatically set up for project bounds with a 100 px depth. You will probably want to set the Bounce Strength in Edge Collision to around 60-70%. A 100% bounce will never stop bouncing (unless other forces are applied to it -- like Drag.)
Behaviors added to the circle to create the motion path below:
(Circle starts at top of canvas)
Edge Collision: Bounce Strength 65% (no other parameter change)
Gravity: Acceleration 100.0
Throw: Throw Velocity > X > 32 (dial down the disclosure triangle)
Drag: 0.3
Project length: 30 seconds
Drag Behavior In Point: 15:20 (can be sooner or a little later). Drag is used to stop the "ball" motion.

How do I make the "demon face warp" effect in Apple Motion?

I have a project where the well-known "demon face warp" effect would be ideal. I understand that it's quite doable with After Effects. But since I don't own After Effects, I thought I might see how to do it with Apple Motion.
My footage is from a Sony PMW EX-1. It's footage of a blonde actress in the woods. I'd like to demonize her pretty face.
(I have FCP 6 and Motion 3.)
Do any of you know of a good tutorial on this subject? Or can any of you suggest how I can explore this endeavor on my own using Apple Motion?

Installing Apple Motion On A Mac Mini

I have a 2007 Mac mini with OS X 10.6.8 and Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I want to install Apple Motion but it is saying that my computer does not meet the video card requirements. What are my options?

If you're asking whether you can upgrade the video card in the mini, the answer is no.

Apple Motion 2.02 can't import image file

It always shutdown when import any image file( .jpg .tga so on)
I have even delete that file user>lib>preferences>com.apple.motion.plist
still can't resolve that situation
some QuickTme Decode problem or another?

Does AJA I/O support a desktop? If so, upgrading to 10.4.4 might fix the problem...

Premiere CC can't import Apple Motion files after clean install

Got a new SSD so I decided to do a spankin new install of everything except Final Cut Pro legacy (which I thought I could finally do without). Only snag has been that Premiere CC can't import my Apple Motion projects (version 3) and I can't encode ProRes anymore. Rather than do a lengthy install of the whole Final Cut Studio I just decided to purchase Motion 5 and thought all the functionality would come back. Nope. Premiere's browser won't even display .motn files and if I try to "import" them they are greyed out.
So now I'm stumped. Do I need to install Motion first and then Premiere CC?

I don't believe Motion 5 projects are supported. Motion 4, or earlier, as I understand it. You can install FCP to get the ProRes codecs back.

Preview Tabe in layers palette in Apple Motion

I am new to Apple Motion. I bought a book to learn how to use it. In my layers Palette there is supposed be thumbnails of what is on my canvas right below something that says "Preview." I do not have "Preview" on my layers palette nor do I have thumbnails on it. How can I see them? Is there a setting I need to know about?

In Motion 5 there is a plugin from CoreMelt called "SliceX" that does this. But I don't know anything in Motion 4 that will do it. You may get more help posting in the appropriate "Final Cut Studio" section of this forum.

Codec, apple motion jpeg, when and why?

when is a good choice to use the codec apple motion jpeg ?
if i need to edit a single or many frames for exaple i need to clear an unwanted object in a shot, do i need to convert in this codec and edit with photoshop frame by frame?

Here's how to create custom Destinations in 10.0.6. What you're looking for is the "Export Image Sequence" preset Destination, and add it as a custom Destination (it's not included in the Share menu by default). I set mine to use PNG files. Here's how to create custom Destinations.

I have noticed LOTS of people are thinking about, Motion vs After Effects. I personally think it is Apple's intention to eventually exceed AE's abilities. Right now however, I find that 'round trip' thang between FCP and Motion awfully nice, no need for a go-between piece of software like Automatic Duck.
Anyway, in sorting thru my own AE vs Motion quandry I stumbled upon the following overview, which proved insightful - While it's now a bit dated, I found it helpful - Do consider, Motion does some compositing now and I think we'll see it do a lot more in future releases.

Overlays for a motion menu

I'm having trouble creating overlays for a motion menu. I've imported my background for my motion menu into dvdsp and it works fine. Now I need to add buttons to it and that's where I'm having trouble. How do I accomplish this? My background has all of the text, I just want to add arrows and use those as buttons over my moving background.
Help is appreciated.

So what you should do (easy way) is export the motion menu (last frame) in the proper size and drop it into Photoshop. In what app did you create the background and do you have Photoshop? Can be some sizing issues depending on the workflow.
