Hi everyone.
It only takes 15 seconds. There is a simple and quick way to verify whether or not your Photoshop does gammut mapping (which is needed to see accurate colors on your display).
(Maybe you find it interesting for yourself, but at least you would certainly do me a big favour. If you use a Mac, skip to the bottom.)
Here's the test:
1) open any image with "normal" colors (e.g. red tomatoes, but any image is fine) in Photoshop.
2) download the attached file colorspin.icm and set it as your monitor profile.* That's it!
*(control panel >> display >> settings >> advanced >> color management >> add... >> set as default >> apply)
Results: Your picture can now look either "normal" (e.g. red tomatoes) or have completely absurd colors (e.g. blue tomatoes).
I'd like to do a little poll here (so for comments, etc. please start a new thread!).
I'd be thankful if you could briefly post your results here, that is to say:
normal colors or false colors
version of OS and Photoshop
are you using (1) a notebook's internal display (2) a desktop PC with standalone monitor (3) a notebook together with standalone monitor and internal monitor switched off or (4) a dual-monitor-setup ? If you are interested or have the time, you can try different situations, as they can have an impact on the outcome (that's the case for me unfortunately).
I'll update this thread with a summary and an explanation, once there are enough results posted here, so check back later on. I'm trying to find out if there is a bug (either in Windows or in Photoshop) which kills the gammut mapping. There is no need to test this on Macs, as they don't have issues with this. So if you are a Mac user, please don't post your results (unless you unexpectedly suffer from this bug, too).

Is your home missing from iPhone maps? Add it!

maps.google.com and the iPhone maps use completely different backend databases. Hence what is in one is not always in the other. If your location is suddenly missing from the iPhone map app (like my home was), then Google says to report it to the map data vendor so they can map it out. maps.google.com is NavTek and mobile google is TeleAtlas. Google swapped out the backend DB about a month back, so a lot of previously-there areas disappeared when this happened.

As an aside, the developer for the maps app that I spoke with thought that adding a map feedback form within the iPhone was a good idea, so maybe some future update will streamline this update-requesting interface.

I have a gmail account where all my work emails are forwarded when I'm out of the office, so I associated my @work email to @gmail on the Gmail website. Then I setup the @gmail account as IMAP on the iPhone, using the following:

When you send an e-mail it will appear as @work for recipients using web-based servers. The only problem is that if your recipient uses Outlook 2003 or 2007, they will see the from e-mail as "@gmail on behalf of @work".

Buffer Bloat: Does Time Capsule Suffer from it?

I am an avid gamer and I notice a lot of connection problems. My connection is great 2 up and 20 down. I can always find a game on Xbox Live. Once in the game, however, I will begin to notice a degradation of gameplay. Recently, I discovered a youtube video highlighting the problem which is know as Buffer Bloat.
Buffer Bloat is basically your router can't keep up the the stream of data that is coming towards it. The problem manifests, for gamers at least, in percieved lag. I thougt the articles were interesting and it may be one of those problems that the masses have not considered with the increased network speeds and capacities.
I am going to include a bunch of links and I want to hear what some experts think. I am wondering about Time Capsule in particular as that is what I have in my home network. I followed the advice of the host and bypassed the TC and plugged my Xbox straight into my modem. While that worked I hardly call that a realistic solution.
Is there a software solution? Is it hardware? Apple doesn't have a real form of QoS built into their TC so I am hesitant to buy another one in the future.
I would love to hear what the community thinks.

What was the result of your experiment.. you didn't say.. if you plug the xbox directly to the cable modem does it work significantly better?
Were you using wireless to the TC or ethernet? It could be worth while using ethernet if you were using wireless. Otherwise no, it won't help.
How is the network setup with the TC? Is the TC the main router?
There have been a number of posts about the TC causing lag or slow performance. It doesn't affect everyone but it does affect some. Unfortunately Apple allow so little in the way of controls.. and there is no real access to the box, that once a problem shows itself, it is near impossible to fix.
I can suggest only two things.. depending on how old the TC is.
1. Use 7.5.2 firmware.. or even try the one before.. on older TC it is better. You simply hold down the option key when you select firmware. This option doesn't exist if the TC is less than 1year old.
2. If you have the TC bridged then bypass it and use the modem router. But I am guessing this isn't an option.. !!
I would replace the TC as the main router.. and I would replace it with something that has known high wan to lan throughput and better controls.. eg Netgear WNDR3800, which can run a third party firmware called gargoyle.. this will allow excellent qos plus throttling. Then just bridge the TC and use it for backups.

Mine says it can boot flash drives in the BIOS and it is a boot option, etc. However every flash drive I've tried has failed to boot on mine (and they boot on other people's computers). I've actually come across a few motherboards like this.

I had before cs5 , i installed cs6 it imported my cs5 preferences and after i uninstall cs5
now it's weird because my photoshop loads C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink\CS6\dynamiclinkmanager.exe
i used process hacker or taks manager or process explorer to find it
does your photoshop load dynamiclinkmanager.exe ? please tell me if you have the stand alone version or the master collection
ps another weird thing is the minibrige ,it's gray i can't use but if i reset cs6 prefrences it come back active , this is not a problem i hate minibrige

DynamicLinkManager does not run for me on my system. I have loaded videos successfully into Photoshop, though I don't normally use if for that.
Adobe loads far too many "manger" this, "helper" that, "updater" the other, and "service" applications. The good news is that most can be disabled without detrimental effect, though in this particular case that doesn't seem to explain why DynamicLinkManager does not run.
Note that I have my Photoshop Help facility set up to open in a web page via Internet Explorer.

To add to sig's reply, "calibrating" does not calibrate Lithiu-Ion batteries, it calibrates the charge reporting circuitry. If you look at the effect of deep discharging Lithium-Ion batteries in the data from the independent test group, Battery University, you will see that doing so shortens the life of the battery significantly. It looks like an optimum balance between use and life is at a discharge level of 50%.

Z68A-GD65-G E7681IMS.N00 bios does not suffer from cpu throttling

I have been trying to overclock my 2500k with no good results despite having one of the best aftermarket
coolers for my CPU (Noctua NH-D14). The problem was that even with the CPU working within acceptable
temperatures, I was suffering from cpu throttling.
-Ill try to describe the cpu throttling I experienced with N10,N20 and N31 beta bios: I was trying to achieve
4.8Ghz by maintaining the stock FSB and setting the multiplier to x48. I got to boot into windows, but no
matter what I used in C1E, Speedstep, Turbo boost, C-State, C-State Limit, Short or long term wattage or core limit,
the multiplier lowered from 48x to 41x under a prime95 or linx stress test, thus leaving the system a real CPU speed
of 4.1GHz just in the moment that high CPU clock is needed!!!!!!!!.
-I have assembled cheaper Z68 mainboards form other vendors having no problems in overclocking 2500k to 4.4Ghz with much worse
CPU coolers than mine, so I decided to investigate this issue a bit.....
I realized that original N00 bios does not suffer from CPU throttling, getting easily to 4.8Ghz with 1.4v CPU, maintaining the multiplier
ad 48X for the whole AVX linx stress tests, these are the results:
-N00 bios..............................48X stable multiplier......................4.8Ghz. ................linx 119.1360 GFlops
-N10,N20 or N31b bios...........41X-48X variable multiplier.............4.1-4.8Ghz............linx 104.4250 GFlops
hope this info is useful for anyone(specially bios developers), and I havent bored you......

Actually, I don't need to apply any kind of load to see the throttling in any of the latest bios, I just boot into windows and open CPUZ.
With the multi set at 48 in the bios, it jumps from about 44-48. A different (lower) multi produces the same fluctuation of the multi.
Using an older bios with the G43 board completely eliminated the issue, it stays at a constant 48, or whatever other multi I choose to set in the bios.
For my Z68-GD65, the oldest bios listed on the MSI download page, which is listed as v.23.0 (7681vN0) dated 07-06-2011, is the only bios that I can use to keep a steady multiplier, and thus clock speed.
But, as I mentioned, I have EIST, Speedstep, etc. all disabled, so I will always have one clock speed, whether at idle or load.
Thus it shows immediately when just at the desktop.
I want to emphasize that I'm not trying to make a big deal about this, just having a friendly discussion about it.
I have a good workaround for now, and as I mentioned, I'm very pleased with these MSI boards. I gave the G43 to a good friend, so I can just enjoy the Z68-GD65 now.
@Bernhard: That's an interesting theory that with EIST and C-States disabled, the Primary Plane power limit and long and short duration power settings don't apply correctly, etc.
I have no clue what it means, but it all sounds very good :-D
Only thing is, why does it not happen at all with an older bios in two different boards?
Perhaps you could simply try temporarily disabling all EIST, C1E, and C-State just to see if the multi fluctuates for you when you check with CPUZ?
By the way, I'm enjoying your posts on these boards, particularly the Z68 GD65 now. You're providing a lot of very helpful information, which certainly helps me to learn to work with this excellent motherboard.
For 4.8GHz (4809MHz in CPUZ with the 100.2 bus speed) I have the vcore at 1.420v., PLL is at 1.65v.
Quite stable there, I'm not anal with P95, but an hour or two of Prime Blend with no errors is good enough for me.

Is the line always present? If you boot up the MacBook holding down the option key during startup so that you get to the startup manager, is the line still there?
If so you have a hardware issue and it needs to be repaired. Contact Apple using their Express Lane if you live in a country where that is available, or call the appropriate phone number on this page if not. You can also take the MacBook in to an Apple store or service provider.

There could is likely a compatibility problem between the old software and the newer operating system.

No, however your next backup will not contain the photo as it is no longer on your phone (and iCloud only saves approx. 3 older backups so the one containing the photo will eventually no longer be available). Also, a word of caution...it seems like many users end up losing some or all of their photos when restoring to their iCloud backup. To be safe, don't rely on the backup but instead import your photos (and videos) to your computer, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
