Polling snmp WCS 7.0

Hi all,
You can configure WCS in order to send alarms to an external event manager (for example, NetCool IMB Tivoli ó HPNNMi) configuring "Receiver Notification" including ports and IP's of the event manager. But, is also possible polling snmp by the event manager or is it necesary polling each WLC?
In MIB CISCO-WIRELESS-NOTIFICATION, you can check that:
cwNotificationHistoryTableMaxLength OBJECT-TYPE is read-write,
cWNotificationUpdatedTimestamp OBJECT-TYPE is read-only and
cWNotificationKey OBJECT-TYPE is read-only
So, it should be possible. Can anyone confirm this? Is it necessary to configure WCS in a particular way?
On the other hand, if you installed WCS in a server in which is running Windows, apart from disable snmp agent of Windows, have I be care of anything more?
Thanks

Hi Jorge,
It looks like such a level of granularity may not be achievable yet.
Should you need such a feature to be evaluated for potentially being included in future software releases, I would recommend to contact your local Cisco account team.
They should be able to follow up and submit a product enhancement request (PER).
Business units will evaluate PERs and, if feasible for the market, they may consider implementing such an enhancement in future versions of the SW/HW.

Fede

  • From WCS download webauthcer to WLC.

    Hi,
Is possible from WCS to download a webauthcer on WLC?
With WCS is possible to download the device cert that is not a webauthcer and CA cert but I don't see the webauthcer?
    Regards.
    Miko Severi

I dont advise you to start with the DB this is not DB related problem at first sight.
First of, your WLC version is too new to be supported for the WCS version you have as per release notes:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/wcs/release/notes/WCS_RN6_0.html
That WCS only supports WLC 6.0.182.0 max.
For later WLC, you need to upgrade WCS.
Fix that first. You can upgrade WCS during production, it's not having an impact on the WLC.
Then FYI, for troubleshooting SNMP / WCS / WLC problems, look at my video. I also cover the upgrade steps for WCS:

  • Alarms for Third party devices on Cisco PI v 2.1

Is it possible to receive alarms for third party devices in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1? If so how do i configure PI to show the alarms?

    Hi,
AFAIk, It is not possible to receive alarms for third party devices in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1.
we have very limited support of 3rd party devices in PI. third party devices only snmp polling, snmp traps and syslog will work

  • What else SCE couldn't do without Collection manager and Subscriber Manager for SCE?

Can we still monitor the traffic and control the subscriber even we do not have any Collection manager and Subscriber Manager? with SCE alone couldn't analysis or control the traffic?

    Hi,
Without CM you can not generate reports based on RDR collection process. For example if you dont have Collection Manager you can not generate reports that are predefined on the SCA Reporter or insight. Only you can do is you can poll SNMP counters/values by a s/w and you can graph them, but it is not suitable and not covers the all data that SCE collects and reports. And for the SM side if you want to communicate with a policy/external server you really need an SM, also you can use its internal Quota manager to count quota.

  • ASA-SM: same mgmt VLAN in all context

                       Hi
I have ASA-SM failover pair in two Catalyst 6500 switches.
I send from switch to ASA-SM management VLAN 1234 to admin context for management purposes.
    I have another 3 contexts on ASA-SM.
Can I have same managemenet VLAN1234 on each ASA-SM context? Can it work?
I need it for sending syslog messages form contexts to syslog server via management interface.
    Peter

    Hi Bro
Just assign VLAN 1234 to the admin context. As for the other contexts, ensure those vlans assigned to those context are routable to VLAN 1234, and are you're able to poll SNMP, SYSLOG etc. messages.
Yes, you can assign VLAN 1234 to multiple context, but this is not practical. This is because each contect will require 2 IP Address for VLAN 1234, since it's running in failover mode. If you were to run 250 contexts (maximum), this approach will not work. You'll run out of VLAN 1234 IP Address in no time.
This is surely not the best design. You could refer to http://www.ciscopress.com/articles/article.asp?p=426641 for more details on this.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 - Third Party NetFlow

    Hi,
is it possible to collect on the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 NetFlows from Third Party Devices, like a SonicWALL Firewall?
I mean it is possible to poll SNMP informations from a third party device, so maybe it is also possible to get the NetFlow from this Device?

As per my understanding for 3rd party Only below thing are supported:
The following support level is available with Prime Infrastructure :
    • Auto Discovery of a 3rd party Device
    • Basic Inventory collection
    • Basic lifecycle management of 3rd party device
    • Ability to show traps and syslog for 3rd party devices
    • Device reachability status polling
    • Ability to load new MIBs & to create new monitoring templates
    • For both Cisco and any SNMP device

  • High CPU utilization on CSS 11501 version sg0750303

    Hi everyone,
I have the problem about High CPU utilization on CSS 11501 version sg0750303.
Our customer has used one pair of CSS 11501 (active-standby).
As a matter of convenience, called "Old CSS" after here in this post.
However traffic via Old CSS had been increasing so customer decided to add one more
pair (active-standby) of CSS to separate traffic.
Yesterday we installed new two CSS 11501 version sg0750303 (active-standby).
As a matter of convenience, called "New CSS" after here in this post.
Today, active CSS 11501 and standby CSS 11501 which were installed yesterday (New CSSs)
    indicates High CPU utilization.
    Active CSS 11501:
    Peak CPU utilization: about 85%
    Average CPU Utilization: about 60%
    Standby CSS 11501:
    Peak CPU utilization: about 40%
    Average CPU Utilization: unknown
I do not understand why CPU utilization of both New CSSs become high.
The traffic pass through New CSS less than Old CSS, because the traffic is separated into
    Old CSS and New CSS.
And CSS's configuration parameters (service, content, access-list) also less than Old CSS,
because real servers are also separated into Old CSS and New CSS.
Old CSS indicated average of CPU utilization about 20% before installing New CSSs yesterday,
in spite of all traffic pass through Old CSS only.
I wrote "New CSS remains High CPU utilization", however end users do not feel the
performance issue (e.g., performance delay, communication failure and so on) and
the traffic pass through New CSS normally.
So I have the question "CSS 11501 sg0750303 remains High CPU utilization on normal situation ?"
And customer uses MTRG to poll SNMP for Old CSSs and New CSSs.
So I have the question "CSS 11501 sg0750303 become High CPU utilization in case of receiving
    SNMP polling ?".
Or if this situation is abnormal we need to start investigation.
Would you please let me know how do we investigate this situation.
I found the DDTS CSCek57080 "Performance issue using arrowpoint-cookie with ASR".
Release note of this DDTS says that
A customer was using a CSS pair configuration where arrowpoint-cookie
is being used along with a redundant-index on many content rules. When
the flow rate increased to a few hundred flows/sec, the peer message
queue of the CSS receiving ASR related message began to fill up.
When the peer message queue became over subscribed, the CPU increased
    and the CSS became unstable.
New CSSs have configured redunrant-index on two content rules, and end users do not feel the
performance issue (e.g., performance delay, communication failure and so on) and
the traffic pass through New CSS normally.
So I think this DDTS does not related to this case.
Your information would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,

    Gilles,
Thank you very much for your cooperation.
I got the capture you instructed us.
The following are additional information from our customer.
    At time user traffic path through the active CSS, active CSS indicates;
CPU utilization always range of 30% - 40%
    Peak CPU utilization about 60% - 80%
    At time there is no user traffic pass through active CSS, active CSS indicates;
CPU utilization always range of 0% - 5%
Attached files are named "Active CSS.log" and "Standby CSS.log".
"Active CSS.log" is captured on active CSS and "Standby CSS.log" is captured on
    standby CSS.
I found the following process is using resource by looking the output of
    "shell 1 1 spyReport" command.
    On active CSS,
    tFlowMgrPktR 8ba24070 50 26% ( 1469) 20% ( 26)
    On standby CSS,
    fmPeerMsgTas 8a511510 50 16% ( 176) 10% ( 7)
Your comment would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,

  • Wcs and wlc snmp

if you configure a wireless controller to not send any client traps, does that affect client information and stats in wcs?  wcs is managing controllers, and the controllers are also configured to send traps to another third party trap receiver for ticketting.  since the 3rd party trap receiver is not using these client traps for anything, and there are thousands being sent, its putting unnecessary load in the trap receiver.  If I configure the controller to stop sending client traps (like associate/disassociate, etc..) will that affect the client information that wcs reports?

    Hello,
Good question. The answer is No.
WCS would still poll the controller(s) through SNMP to get that information. From WCS, if you navigate under the Administration --> Background tasks page you would see the list of polling tasks there. The snmp traps help in getting the information quicker to the management application rather than waiting for the polling to happen (which could happen only for every 15 to 60 minutes depending on the task). So your Client reporting in WCS should have the data regardless of the TRAP configuration on the WLC's.

  • Cisco WCS integration with SNMP based monitoring

I am looking for a solution to integrate Cisco WCS with any SNMP based monitoring solution.  My requirement is below,
    - Alerts for Access points up/down should be picked up by an alerting system in its console through SNMP.
    - I dont want all access points to be monitored, but only a critical group.
Currently all access points are configured on LWAP mode under a wireless controller.  Can i configure APs individually for SNMP and get it monitored through the 3rd party monitoring tool.
Can anyone please guide me to find a solution for this.

  • Snmp polling across firewalls

I have an issue with my firewalls polling my snmp stations.  The issue is that my smnp server is unable to poll a connected interface on the firewall on a different network. We are using two /24 networks across a managed connection for redundancy purposes. At either end of the managed connection there is an asa firewall, the firewalls are configured with /24 networks. There is a snmp server on one of the /24 network on either side of managed connection, the servers default gateway points to the firewall connected interface i.e snmp server 1 has an IP address of 10.10.30.13/24 and a gateway of 10.10.30.1 (firewall 1) and snmp server 2 on the other side of the managed connection has a ip address of 10.10.31.13/24 and a gateway of 10.10.31.1(firewall 2), the .1 addresses are the physical interfaces on the friewalls. There is a transit network configured between the firewalls to allow for the routing of traffic between the 10.10.30/24 and 10.10.31/24 networks. The transit  network has an interface with an IP address 10.10.222.1/31 on the firewall on the left side (firewall 1) of the managed connection and an IP address of 10.10.222.2/31 on the firewall on the right side (firewall 2) of the managed connection. Routes have been set up on the firewalls to the 10.10.30.0/24 and 10.10.31.0/24 via the transit network.
The problem I am having is that the snmp server at 10.10.30.13/24 is not able to poll the firewall interface 10.10.31.1 (firewall 2) and the server at 10.10.31.13 is also not able to poll the firewall interface at 10.10.30.1 (firewall 1)
The routing and snmp configuration is listed below:
    Firewall 1
    route
    10.10.31.0/24 via 10.10.222.1
    Snmp config
    Listerning port 161
    snmp host access list
    interface_name 10.10.30.13, community string, snmp version 2c, poll/trap, port 162
A any any access rule is used on the transit interface on either side of the connection
and a access list has been configured on 10.10.30.1 interface which allows snmp traffic from 10.10.31.13
    Firewall 2
    route
    10.10.30.0/24 via 10.10.222.2
    Snmp config
    Listerning port 161
    snmp host access list
    interface_name 10.10.31.13, community string, snmp version 2c, poll/trap, port 162
A any any access rule is used on the transit interface on either side of the connection
and a access list has been configured on 10.10.31.1 interface which allows snmp traffic from 10.10.30.13
I have been looking at this problem for sometime without much success, can you kindly help

    Hello Roy,
Do you mean it's not able to get data for that interface???
Or do you mean you are trying to connect to that IP address?? Cause if that is the case it will never happen as you cannot contact a distant interface (If I am on inside I can ping , ssh, telnet inside but If I will never be able to contac the DMZ interface IP address or outside, etc)

  • Prime infra 2.1 : SNMP Authentication failure polling

    Dear all,
I post this message because we have some trouble during SNMP V2 poll on all our switches.
We took care to deploy the good snmp credentials into the "Operate-> discovery settings" and even into the "Administration -> sys settings -> SNMP credentials".
The issue is that during the poll phase the SNMP credential "default" is sent to all switchs that is causing a lot of "authentication failure" traps (a packet capture has been done to confirm this trouble).
The correct credential is sent in parallel of this request that is ok.
The OID requested is the 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.6.0 (which seems to be the "sysLocation" value). We already tried to restart the NCS services but trouble is still present.
thank you in advance for your support,
    regards,
    SebastienJ

    Hello Afrahmad,
we tried but unfortunately no success with RW community.
We also tested before to place bigger timeout and more retries but no more result at all.
the only thing that is seems to work for the moment is to configure on our switchs the community name "default" but it is not a viable solution for us unfortunately.

The WCS machine must be configured as an SNMP trap receiver to have full management functionality through the WCS.

  • Can i change snmp poll time in PI 2.0 and how to ?

Can i change snmp poll time in PI 2.0 and how to ?
    Thanks
    Keith Chan

    Hi Keith ,
yes it is 5 min by default .
You would need to create a new Monitoring template for this and deploy on the
devices on which you would like to change the polling frequency.
Go to Design --> Monitor Configuration --> Metrics
Choose the type of polling template i.e. Interface health or Device Health etc
Change the values and save it as a new template and deploy.
